  1. It was a crisp January day when Jordan Webb sat in front of a glowing computer screen writing the email that months later would send his life on a course he never thought would take place. It was a simple letter. A job request, in effect. Webb's services were no longer requested at Kansas, the school where just three years earlier he thought he'd become a star.
