BRENHAM, Texas -- Former Blinn College punter John David Baker will be recognized as a member of the University of North Texas all-century team this weekend as the Mean Green prepares to host Idaho in its season opener.
Baker and the rest of the all-century team will be recognized during a banquet Friday night, and UNT has memorialized the all-century roster in “The North Texas All-Century Team Commemorative Book,” a 50-page full-color edition that also covers the entire history of Mean Green football.
To fill the 28-man all-century roster, more than 120 players and coaches were named as finalists. Fans then voted on the team, submitting more than 11,000 votes, before a final selection committee made up of longtime UNT football observers, media and members of the athletic department determined the final roster.
Baker played one season at Blinn College before transferring to North Texas. In 1997, Baker averaged 47.2 yards per kick for the second-best average in the nation and a new school record.
