  1. ABILENE Fifth-place finishes were a frequent occurrence among city athletes Saturday at the Region I-4A Meet. Rider senior shot putters Maira Guerrero and Harrison Sorge finished their high school careers in fifth at McMurry University. Then a pair of juniors Riders Ty Branch and Wichita Falls High Schools Korie Robinson came in fifth in the 110 hurdles and 200, respectively. Branch ran a 14.93 in his race, while Robinson posted a 22.12. Both will have opportunities to improve on those results next season. Sorge, who will head to the University of North Texas for football in July, enjoyed his second regional meet even though it didnt end with a state berth. His best throw came on his first attempt, a 51-10 ¾. Its a good experience, and Im glad I made it, but I wish I could have thrown farther, Sorge said. I didnt have much of a groove going, and I wish I could have been more consistent throughout the year. Read more: http://www.timesrecordnews.com/news/2013/apr/28/riders-guerrero-sorge-finish-5th/
  2. The Rider offense has some flash and dash, led by Domanic Thrasher at running back and a group of receivers that seem to take turns making big plays. But as the season has progressed with three starting quarterbacks and different game plans depending on the quarterback and the opponent, there has been one constant. That's the offensive line. Sometimes they need to build a 10-play drive from the single wing. Last week, they just gave Chase London the time he needed to complete passes down the field. The headline act up front is left tackle Harrison Sorge, who committed to North Texas before his senior season. Not only does Sorge (6-4, 290) not look for the spotlight, but his blocking keeps the man lining up across from him from making the highlight reel with any hits. He made his name a year ago with a solid blocking job against Denton Ryan's Mario Edwards. But that didn't change big No. 76 for the black and gold. "Moving someone back, it's a lot of fun," Sorge said. "You drive them back and take control of them. That's a good feeling. They have no control, and they're trying to get off, and you knock them down." Read more:http://www.timesrecordnews.com/news/2012/nov/21/high-school-football-sorge-paves-way-for-riders/
  3. I think I may go check out Sorge. Rider stud QB (Ohio St commit) has apparently tore his ACL and is out for the year
  4. And on the football recruiting front, I was able to catch up with Harrison Sorge today. Sorge was a first-team All-District 4-4A selection and has come on late in his career. He played well in one of the tougher districts in the area and held his own against players like Ryan’s Mario Edwards, who was the top recruit in the country. Edwards is headed to Florida State. Sorge was recruited by Nick Quartaro and is teammates with Dylan McDorman. The two have played together since elementary school.
