BOCA RATON — After months of searching, Lane Kiffin has finally found his graduate transfer quarterback. Former Arkansas and SMU quarterback Rafe Peavey has officially joined the Owls as a grad transfer and is immediately eligible to play. Peavey was cleared shortly before Tuesday’s practice and took reps with the first, second, and third-teams. “We’re always looking for people,” Kiffin said, “and we had looked for a while for the right fit of a quarterback due to numbers once Jason (Driskel) left.” Peavey, 22, was a perfect four-of-four for 116 yards and a touchdown in three games last season. A former three-star recruit from Missouri, Peavey transferred to SMU in 2016 and mainly served as Ben Hicks’ backup last season. Redshirt junior De’Andre Johnson is currently battling redshirt freshman Chris Robison for the starting quarterback job. Kiffin said the addition of Peavey is “not any reflection upon” Johnson and Robison’s performances. FRISCO, Texas – It only took one season, but Lane Kiffin changed the dynamic of Conference USA. The Florida Atlantic head coach enters his second year at the helm in Boca Raton as the reigning conference champion, the first for the program. Those surrounding the 14-team league expected Kiffin to have an immediate impact, but no one could’ve imagined the Owls going undefeated in C-USA play en route to winning the title. “I don’t think we surprised ourselves, I think we surprised everybody else,” Kiffin told media members Thursday on the second day of Conference USA Media Days at The Star. “Maybe the players were surprised. When we took the job, we knew there was some good players there and we’d have a chance to do something special.” Special mildly describes what FAU pulled off for the first year of the Kiffin era. The Owls ran roughshod through the league and in all but one game, a five-point win against Marshall at home, it wasn’t even close. On average, FAU defeated C-USA competition by 22 points and scored north of 30 points in all nine contests, including the 41-17 mauling of Western Division champ North Texas in the title game. read more: https://www.thenewsstar.com/story/sports/college/louisiana-tech/2018/07/19/conference-usa-media-days-who-can-stop-lane-kiffin-and-fau/801883002/

HUNTINGTON - On paper, it appears that Florida Atlantic should run through Conference USA in 2018. It isn't an unfounded thought, considering the Owls' tightest football game the last three months of the season was a 30-25 home win over Marshall in which the Owls used their defense to force turnovers and keep the Thundering Herd at arm's length, leading for two scores for much of the contest with the Herd battling to get back in it. For all intents, THAT was a young Florida Atlantic team. Young talent, new coaching staff, new schemes. Now, head coach Lane Kiffin has expectations in his second year, and many of those are on the national level, not just Conference USA. There are reasons for that. FAU returns third-team All-American Devin Singletary at running back and 10 defensive starters from a unit that gave up yardage but forced many turnovers to negate the yards allowed. However, the supposed walk through Conference USA will not be an easy trek for the Owls, given some of the things they will have to endure in the 2018 campaign. read more: http://www.williamsondailynews.com/sports/loaded-fau-will-be-aiming-for-a-repeat/article_809cdb96-a9b9-592d-9e9f-4226d923f17b.html

Does my $50 a year not afford at least one or two Alumni Association people to go to the CUSA Championship game and setup a little tailgate? Does that mean @FAU Connoisseur is running the un-official UNT Alumni tailgate? New Orleans Bowl grade alumni association support... :-(

BOCA RATON North Texas head coach Seth Littrell knows firsthand the challenges that come with turning a dismal program around. Two years after inheriting an 11-1 program, Littrell’s Mean Green (9-3, 7-1) prepare to take on the Florida Atlantic Owls (9-3, 8-0) in Saturday’s Conference USA title game. Speaking to the media in a teleconference call on Tuesday, the third-year coach expressed his respect for the job FAU coach Lane Kiffin has done. “I think he’s done an unbelievable job,” Littrell said of Kiffin. “It’s a challenge getting somewhere, building relationships, setting your culture, having your guys buy into it. … It’s a great challenge.” Kiffin and Littrell faced off on Oct. 21, a 69-31 FAU win where the Owls recorded more than 800 yards of total offense. FAU players admitted after the win to being motivated by Littrell commenting that the Owls shouldn’t have scheduled the Mean Green for their homecoming game. read more: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/college-football/north-texas-coach-seth-littrell-praises-lane-kiffin-quick-fix-fau/NMHlUS5ew3a1y5VeA518xJ/

BOCA RATON For the first time since 2008, Florida Atlantic is preparing for postseason play. Though FAU (9-3, 8-0) clinched bowl eligibility on Nov. 3 and a spot in the Conference USA championship game earlier this month, the Owls are now officially getting ready for their first postseason game since a 24-21 win in Detroit over Central Michigan on Dec. 26, 2008 in the Motor City Bowl. FAU completed the fourth 8-0 season in C-USA history with last Saturday’s 31-12 win over Charlotte. Saturday’s C-USA title game pits FAU against North Texas (9-3, 7-1), a team the Owls beat 69-31 on Oct. 21. “I feel like we’ve done a lot, we’ve accomplished a lot,” FAU linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair said. “We’re not where we want to be, but looking back, we’ve done a lot of progress in the summer and even in December when the coaches first got here.” As the Sun Belt conference — FAU’s home from 2004-12 — does not have a championship game, the Owls will be playing in their first FBS title game. Here are some of the key details FAU fans need to know prior to Saturday’s C-USA title game. read more: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/college-football/after-perfect-conference-usa-season-fau-set-for-first-title-game/udHM8yHEcVglqquUBp61KL/

BOCA RATON – DeAndre McNeal sees this week’s match-up between FAU and North Texas as more than a battle between two first-place Conference USA teams. It’s also a game for bragging rights between the titans of high school football. “Basically, they say Florida and Texas have the best high school football, so now you’ve got a team from Florida and a team from Texas playing against each other,” McNeal said. “It will be a great experience. I’m excited for it.” North Texas, located in the Dallas suburb of Denton, lists a roster overwhelmingly populated by players from the Lone Star State. An even larger percentage of FAU’s players hail from the Sunshine State. Linebacker Mylam Peters is the lone Floridian to appear on the Mean Green roster. McNeal, a wide receiver, is one of three Texans on FAU’s squad and will likely be the lone Texas native to hit the field for the Owls. read more: http://fauowlaccess.com/floridaatlantic/texas-sized-bragging-rights/7251/2017/10/18/

I may be getting ahead of myself, but is FAU really any good? Yeah they won big on ODU 58-28, but they did it mainly on the ground. Driskel was only 13/22 for 97 yards and an INT and no TDS. They ran the ball down ODU's throat on the way to 453 rushing yards. They had a nearly 200 yard rusher in Singletary, and another 100 yard rusher in Howell Jr. Driskel even rushed for 92 on his own. They have losses to Navy. Wisconsin, and a 3-3 Buffalo. However, ESPN FPI only gives us a 27.2% chance of winning and has FAU favored in every game the rest of the way except against LA Tech, but it is pretty much a pick'em game right now. Is there something I'm missing here? Or is it just the Lane Kiffin effect?

I haven't really been following the Lane Kiffin at FAU. But does anyone know if he will hire his father again to be his defensive coordinator or as a defensive assistant? Monte is currently a defensive assistant with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

IRVING, Texas — For every problem there is a solution. This is how Charlie Partridge operates. When the Plantation native was hired to take over the FAU football program in December, there was a need to embrace what could be. The assistants he hired led to high-end recruits such as St. Thomas Aquinas running back Jordan Scarlett committing to the program. His quick imprint built upon the Owls' four-game winning streak to end what was a hellish season filled with departures and rumor. Some of that momentum, or so it seemed, disappeared. Scarlett and another high-end recruit, Miramar's Herb Miller, decommitted in July, and the realization of playing at Nebraska and Alabama to open the season seems intimidating. Partridge, speaking Wednesday at the Conference USA Media Day, said he didn't feel that the optimism at FAU has changed at all. "We can't talk specifically about certain recruits, but that's recruiting," he said. "There are times you play defense and times you play offense."
