UNT appeared to be out of the running for D.J. Dean, a cornerback from Newton who committed to Utah a few months ago.
Dean said Friday that the situation has changed. UNT is very much in the hunt for the three-star athlete.
“I like the coaching staff at North Texas and the area,” Dean said. “My family is from there. I have uncles and aunts who live in Forth Worth and I have a cousin who lives off of 820, about 15 minutes away. I am

Dean was the District 10-2A MVP and helped lead Newton to the state semifinals. He visited Utah and quickly committed to the school before having second thoughts. He decommitted recently.
Newton coach WT Johnston said the idea of going so far away from home started to weigh on Dean.
