Playing four seasons of high school basketball wasnt enough to earn Allante Holston the scholarship offers he was seeking.
The 6-6 small forward played for two high schools in the Washington, D.C., area before heading to Florida, where he spent a season sharpening his perimeter skills at Orlando West Oaks Academy.
The plan paid off for Holston, who improved to the point where colleges across the country came calling. UNT was among them and received a commitment from Holston late Thursday following his official visit to the school.
It was everything, Holston said of his reasons for committing to UNT. I liked the coaches and the players. Its a family-oriented program at a big school. I am happy to be a part of North Texas. It felt like home.
Oral commitments are nonbinding. Holston is expected to sign a national letter of intent in the next few days.
