Those of you that attend North Texas Men’s basketball, have you noticed Rob Coffey’s introduction line ? Rob welcomes fans to “Denton, America !” I’ve noticed this the last 3 home games. I asked him about it Wednesday and he said, (paraphrase) “I just read what they hand me.” Which makes sense, but why have we abandoned Texas in the intro ? Texas is and always has been part of our name. The only time I’ve ever heard “Denton, America” was when Smith Brother’s Roping was going great guns. While I’m proud to be an American, when asked, I tell people I’m from Denton, TEXAS. Has anybody else noticed this ?

Did you notice the common area between the Central Florida baseball stadium and the softball stadium ? One can literally stand in one elevated seating and/or concession area and have an up close view of both fields. Well thought out.

I wish the American had been able to get the Air Force Academy to join us.

That guy is typically reliable.

Keep in mind there are bleachers that fold out (see the green stripe) and provide about as many seats down stairs as up stairs. And, it’s been called the Ken Bahnsen Gym for about 20 years.

On TV the Texas State fans appeared to outnumber us 2-1, 3-1.

Reminds me of Riley Dodge in his state championship game at Southlake-Carroll.

I wonder if he is watching the bowl game on TV or even if he’s planning on attending ? In not small way he is responsible (good or bad) for our 6-6 record. I hope we are a pleasant enough memory he can at least tune in.

A cool photo op would have been the uniforms for the First Responders Bowl aboard the Mean Green Denton Fire Department fire engine. A unique combination.

“Kid literlly left the sport after 2008.” ? Actually, he transferred to A & M as a QB, had to sit out a year then and never saw the field and was on the UTSA coaching staff for a time. He was a coach there against North Texas

What a finish. The way go get around the ESPN and ESPN2 and all the alphabet soup is to come to the games. There’s nothing like all the fans standing and yelling “DEFENSE” or NORTH, TEXAS, NORTH, TEXAS, in unison.

Here’s a couple of North Texas/DR-C fun facts. At one time, the DR-C beat writer was a guy names Jerry Reeves, like the popular country/novelty song singer. He and I had a fairly “out in the open” feud in the Letters to the Editor column. He was very critical of North Texas Athletics. Randy Cummings covered North Texas for a long time. When he left, I wrote in my Letter to the Editor note about Jerry Reeves, “Where is Randy Cummings when you need him ?” Randy is the official scorer at almost every North Texas home basketball game. He’s the handsome man in the black and white striped shirt.

I hate asking this i hate to ask this i don't want to ask this, but If he is as good as advertised, and I guess he is, why is he coming here right out of high school ?
