  1. I wonder how many on this board know what "Soilent Green" is ? GO MEAN GREEN
  2. I gave Chuck Mills my copy of said magazine and asked John Baker to sign it. Chuck said it embarrassed John, but he signed it anyway. GO MEAN GREEN
  3. umm...thanks, Eagle
  4. What is the criteria to be invited to the Hula Bowl ? I understand it is a "senior" bowl and that the players involved are very good, but where's Vince Young ? Where's Reggie Bush ? What is the name of the bowl for seniors whose team did not go to a post season bowl ? GO MEAN GREEN
  5. Try to buy GREEN shirts. GO MEAN GREEN (get it ?)
  6. I'm not sure a "better ref" would call less penalties. I would hope a ref would call penalties as they occur. And with a DD coached team, there will be a lot of penalties to call. GO MEAN GREEN
  7. J'mel Branch is gone. That would be our greatest defensive pluses I should volunteer to help him pack to make sure he doesn't get a job as a grad assistant. If NT had the worst history dept or the worst chemistry dept in the nation, some dean or dept. head would be gone.
  8. I bet the lady (the listener) knows that SMU and TCU STILL have a football team.
  9. I was driving to a meeting Wednesday at 6:30AM listening to the oldie station. They had a contest with the question, "Where did Joe Greene play college football ?" The lady didn't know. The DJ said he played at an area college. She still didn't know. The DJ said he played at a North Texas university. The lady guessed, "Did he play at UNT...when they HAD a football team ?" Someone at the marketing department needs to get busy. GO MEAN GREEN
  10. I am opposed to retiring numbers. We (and any other team for that matter) should expect to have great players. What would happen if we got an opportunity to sign a really great running back, but he wanted #28 (Abner Haynes). That might be far fetched, but I'd hate to lose a top recruit to Baylor or Tulsa just because we couldn't hook him up with his favorite number. GO MEAN GREEN
  11. Years ago, the folks at Weaver Wisdom Paint and Body Shop did a lot of work on the Model A (?) and the spirit bell. They were always at the games (FB and BB). Mr. Wisdom died not long ago, but Larry is still there at the body shop.
  12. I think Witte played for Fry. His son is named Hayden.
  13. Great response Silver.
  14. Chuch is a great guy. He was not only the recruiter during Corkey's days, he was the special teams coach. He's great fun to talk with and has wonderful NT stories. Chuck would make the coach's show so much fun, we'd probably have to sell tickets. When Matt Simon left, I pushed him as hard as I was able to get the head job. You see what influence I have. He was Brad Kassell's position coach (not bad) and was let go without much explaination. He told me that DD simply said, "we're going to go in a different direction." After the loss to Monroe in '01, while I was shopping for a rope and a low hanging tree, I asked if he would be interested in the head job if in fact DD was given the axe. He was non-committal. Chuch was working for a "astro-turf" company when I last spoke to him. I'd love to see him get the head job here. The sooner the better. GO MEAN GREEN
  15. If I'm advising Vince, I tell him to go pro. He could get hurt against North Texas and blow his pro chances. In any event, I'd like him gone before NT plays in Austin next Sept. 2. GO MEAN GREEN
  16. I hope Texas wins the National Championship, and I'm looking foward to going to Austin next August (or Sept, whatever) and playing the National Champs. And as far as a great bowl season, it's not because we're not in it. I haven't been using my usual signature lately, but it's back... GO MEAN GREEN
  17. Growing up, we had a phrase we would say when one of our pals got mad and walked off the game. "Winners never quit, quitters never win." We're probably too old for that now, but it was the first thing that came to my mind when I read the above.
  18. Diet-Coke boy for a day
  19. 12 Dancers 5 cheerleaders (2 female-3 male) Welcome back cheerleaders. We missed you. Is this all the cheerleaders we have left ?
  20. The over/under I was refering to was how many Dancers and cheerleaders would be at the game. NT will "jack the lumber" up SFA I again say 8 Dancers and zero cheerleaders.
  21. The schedule card is in your season ticket packet.
  22. I'm going tonight for the SFA game (with former NT player Danny Kaspar Head Coach at SFA) I'm betting zero cheerleaders show up (just like the last 3 games) And I'll say 8 Dancers are not only present, but rocking the Super Pit. Place your bets now. Results tonight after the game.
  23. A few years ago the part of the band would come to the alum side and play the fight song from the "equator" between the upper and lower sections. That hasn't been done in a while. I'd like to see the Dancers come over as well and do a routine with the band on the equator.
  24. So who represents the students when no cheerleaders show up ?
  25. Well maybe you're right. Aside from the NT Dancers, we have NO ONE in uniform on the sidelines. The Dancers were there again last night. They got off work, they had to drive in, they finished studying, they didn't make excuses. They just show up.
