OK...And I'm sure it's just me, but last year, when Meager was under center, it seemed we couldn't get the plays in. Last night, I noticed the same thing. Even coming in after a timeout, we would just barely get the play snapped, or too often, have to call a timeout. I know this is a DD/RF trademark, but it seems more so with Meager in as QB. Yes-No ? So I'm driving back from a political meeting last night (Th) and I passed a tire store on I-35 just north of Switzer road in Lake Dallas/Corinth. The letters were red, but the message was clear. The "D-I-S-C-O" was not working. And the sign read, "UNT TIRE STORE." I nearly pulled in to see if DD could make me a good deal on a set of Michelins. And now this morning, I went in the Wallgreen's on University @ N.Elm. They sell some t-shirts with "Mean Green" across the front in the right color. But down the asle, were some green polo type shirts with the monogram "Denton Eagles." And as if that weren't bad enough, there were some maroon shirts with "Denton Pioneers." (Pioneers is the nickname for Texas Woman's University) I mentioned this gaff to the clerk, and she said the pogic was that TWU would not allow them (walgreens) to sell TWU stuff. I don't think she understood my point. Amazing. What's next ? The Austin Longhorns or the College Station Aggies ? Or the Akron Zi...nevermind. I've looked at this play over and over. Did the quaterback take the snap ? Or was the ball snapped or really handed to the running back ?

Play "Rocky Top" with a "om pa pa " beat and see how you like it. The purpose of a fight song, official or unofficial, is to excite the fans and the team. The "om pa pa" version makes me feel like the Green Bragade is making fun of the Fight Song. I'm sure they're not, but that's my impression.

I consider myself something of a student of versions of the National Anthem. I tend to be very traditional and I think jazzing it up (or down) is disreapectful. The National Anthem is about our flag and country, not about the singer or musician. The Green Brigade version of the National Anthem is the best I've heard. I love the way other patriotic songs are touched on as the Color Guard marches the U.S. flag onto the field. I've heard the Fighting Texas Aggie Band play it, and they can't compare to the NT Band. Good job. But last night, while the Mean Green was trying it's best to get cranked up to win in overtime, the NT Band played the fight song to an "om pa pa" rythmn. Or played it with muted horns. Not for volumn control, but for style. We needed the Fight Song ! Played like a FIGHT song should be played. Can you imagine "Texas Fight" or "Boomer Sooner" or "The Aggie War Hymn" played to a "om pa pa" beat ? Never. And as much as I like the old Bruce Channell tune, "Hey Baby" played and sung by the NT Band, don't play it when we're losing. It's a great song and to me it says, "We're winning, and oh yeah, I've got this pretty girl with me at the game. But I've got her at a game we're winning. When/if a new conference comes callling, think about what they will look at. Facilities, location, student population. Lots of things. What can we, as fans do to help ? Build a new stadium ? Change our location ? Drag more high school students to our campus ? Probably not. I can't write a check to fund the new stadium. I liek where NT is located. I'm not likely to go to "college night" at area high schools. I choose to help by joining the Mean Green Club and buying season tickets. I would like to think that conferences look at those kind of things. How many people are in the Mean Green Club ? How many season tix do you sell ? I have read on the board lately the reasons some give for not joining the Mean Green Club and for not buying Season Tickets. Please list those reason and perhaps some of us will be convinced to also not support our University. I would set up a poll, but I'm not computer savey.

Anyone can and should join. I hate the notion of withholding your financial support until, in this case, the Athletic Dept., measures up to some standard. Am I happy with the state of NT football ? Of course not. But what would happen to the Athletic program if every Mean Green member took Travis' stance ? We would need to shut down tomorrow. The only way we are going to get out of this situation is to work together. Rick is not happy with the results on the field. He's a very samrt guy. We don't need to "send him a message." Withholding much needed money would be like not feeding your kids because they stayed out too late or didn't pick up their room. If we do get to hire another coach, will he be more impressed with how many Mean Green members we have, or how many guys will fork over their money when we do this or that. If you expect every thing or everyone to please you, you should not be a Mean Green fan. Support the program because you want it to succeed, not as a reward. Most of us are not able to coach football. Most can't stripe the field or clean up after a game. What we CAN do is pay the freight for those that can do these jobs. I try to end all my posts the same way becasue I believe in the Mean Green. Not Darrell Dickey. Not even Rick. I was here long before they got here. I'll be here long after they've gone. Sometime during the 4th quarter, my wife gave me that look. I told her I'd love to leave, but morally I felt I had to stay. I did and saw another Middle Tennessee touchdown.
