  1. Sounds like a fun gimmick. But here's how we build a new stadium... Donate money to the North Texas Athletic program. Earmark it for "stadium construction" if you wish, but give money to NT Athletics. We seem to spend a lot of time waiting for someone else to do the lifting for us. If it's to be OUR stadium, then WE need to step up and pay for it. There is no tooth fairy, and there's no santa claus (note the lower case). Write a check. Find a giving level and give some money to your Athletic Department. If you're already a giver, try to increase your level of giving. Let's stop looking for mr. big bucks. He's not out there. If it's to be, it's up to you and me. Join the Mean Green Club Buy Season Tickets GO MEAN GREEN
  2. I agree with P1. I'd rather not have a student vote on a student fee. The thought of some students and how ever many professors protesting a stadium fee would surly make the front page and might make the evening news. And how would that look ? If WE want a new stadium, then WE need to fund it. Few things worthwhile are free. The good stuff always costs more. We should raise ticket prices and raise advertising rates and insist that people commit to giving levels for any ticket purchase. And if the students want to help build a stadium, give them a way to contribute.
  3. I agree with DAWG. Anything short of a new stadium is unacceptable on a number of levels. My idea, once, was to remove one side or the other of Fouts and rebuild it close to the field during the off season. Pull the aluminum bleachers in close to the end zones and the following off season, demolish the other side stands and rebuild. A new stadium, an excellent location, and no interruption of play. But the new stadium idea is better. And hooking up with a hotel makes the new stadium idea unique. Join the Mean Green Club Buy Season Tickets GO MEAN GREEN
  4. The material doesn't matter to me. I'm going there right now. And I'm going to ask every clerk I see where the NORTH TEXAS ice coolers are. "Clean up on aisle 7. Mr. Smith, are there any more NORTH TEXAS ice coolers ?" Join the Mean Green Club Buy Season Tickets GO MEAN GREEN
  5. North Texas is listed here as "residential" campus. So is Baylor, Texas A & M, and S.M.U. Oddly, Texas and Texas Tech are considered "commuter" campuses. I've never heard anyone refer to Texas or Tech as a "commuter school."
  6. If Fouts Field is the reason our "fans" don't show up for home games, then we have bigger problems than I ever imagined. Not going to NT home games because Fouts is not an attractive stadium is like not going to visit your Mom because she doesn't live in a good neighborhood. For years, I've ended most of my posts with, "Join the Mean Green Club, Buy Season Tickets." I really mean it. How in the world do we influence others (conferences, bowl committees, etc) when we seem to lack committment within ourselves. Most of us have limited ways we can show support for North Texas Athletics. Most of us can't coach, or recruit, or clean up after a game. Therefore, we are left with displaying financial support for our school's athletic teams. Turning on the radio is fine. And looking for North Texas in the box scores first thing is great. But what our school needs is our money and our collective butts in the seats. As I've said before, look at your check stubs. See what you've spent your money on. That's what is important to you. IF you spend more money on beer or tickets to Six Flags than North Texas Athletics, maybe you're not the fan you profess to be. And I wonder how many of us will continue to find reasons not to support NT when we do get that shiney new stadium ? "The seats are too hard' or "I think so and so at the Athletic Department is rude" are all good enough reasons not to support our school if non-support is what you're looking for. Unless you can diagram plays for the offense or care to direct traffic after the game, give money to North Texas Athletics and attend the home games. Don't do it because North Texas or Fouts is the best. Do it because you're a fan. Because fans support their team. That's all the reason you need. 7. I would like to see him perform at or MC a party or dance at a certain "to be built" stadium between 2 major Interstate highways. Hells bells that would be a "Elvis the pelvis" good time. GO MEAN GREEN
  8. Please don't read anything into this. But does someone think we're in danger of losing Dr. Battile ? It seems every couple of months or so, the BOR feels the need to give her a raise. She's got $350k, a car, housing allowance, and another raise coming up soon. Seriously, are we in fear of losing her ?
  9. Well, with regard to the DD mention, how many of Todd's players went into the formula that cost us 5 scholarships ? How many of Todd's recruits are still with the team ? I'm not arguing, I just don't know. Join the Mean Green Club Buy Season Tickets (you'll be glad when the new stadium seating chart is announced) GO MEAN GREEN
  10. "Hello again everyone. This is Keith Jackson coming to you from Big Enchalada Stadium on the beautiful campus of the University of North Texas." Ole
  11. I took the rector from my Church to lunch yesterday (th) at Burgundy's just off the Denton Square. Not long after we were seated, I noticed Todd Dodge and Johnny Jones walk in. I went back to where they were sitting and they couldn't have been more pleasant. I refered to them as my favorite two college coaches and both acted very pleased. On their way out, they stopped at my table and I introduced both to the rector, a Canon (not a Boomer cannon, but a Canon, with a reverse collar).Good to see these two high profile coaches out in the community. 12. I predict that we will hear something specific about the stadium / hotel this calendar year, and that construction will begin by the end of 2009. And I further predict that we will be pleased with the result, and that some other local schools wil be envious. And, by the way, Fouts was built at a time when "if a little concrete is good, then a lot is better". It may be old, but it won't fall down. 13. With a hat like that, you get a bowl of soup. Rodney Daingerfield
  14. I was asked by a friend that is a high school women's bb coach as to how much the NT job paid. I guessed that Tina was making about $125,000. How much did she make ? How much will Coach Stephens make ? Welcome abord Coach Stephens GO MEAN GREEN
  15. The monorail is really more of a Shelbyville idea.
  16. OK OK CMJ...What do you mean, "She lived there ?"
  17. Another good reason is that you want to support the program.
  18. Hopefully, the new hotel becomes the backdrop to the south end zone. That would provide 6 or 8 floors of "luxury boxes." And since it would be a "laboratory" hotel, perhaps state money could be used in the construction of the stadiu..er...laboratory hotel. Join the Mean Green Club Buy Season Tickets GO MEAN GREEN
  19. Then let's focus on TCU or Tulsa, or Rice or some other "local" program. Someone we can actually schedule.
  20. North Texas has somewhat a history with the Memphis Tigers. Besides I drove through Memphis Texas 2 years ago. Go Memphis
  21. I agree with 'Bat. No more SMWho posts unless and until we play them again.
  22. Has Bobby Knight ever coached at a non-red school ?
  23. Either Leiberman or Capps would make good coaches. I'd like to hire someone that could bring in fans because of who they are, as well as how they coach. Like was done with the Bill Blakely hire. My wife wouldn't miss a Bill Blakely coached game. She went to see him and the game was a bonus. Join the Mean Green Club Buy Season Tickets GO MEAN GREEN
  24. I missed the last game also. I had tickets, hotel reservations, and was ready to go when the Monday or Tuesday before, the hotel called and cancelled my room. They said there was going to be a storm, and they thought they'd need the room for people leaving New Orleans. I couldn't believe what they were saying. "How bad could it be ?", I thought to myself. The storm was named Katrina. So now I'm planning again to see an LSU game and the greatest upset in college football history. Join the Mean Green CLub Buy Season Tickets GO MEAN GREEN
  25. I like it. And a checkerboard end zone.
