And The Sbc Player Of The Week Is.......
greenjoe replied to trud1966's topic in Mean Green Football
I listened to the radio broadcast but couldn't watch on TV. So I stayed up until past 2:00am just to see that run. WOW. Congratulations to Toby and all the Mean Green -
Since Toby's touchdown happened within regulation ? why was there no try for the PAT ? I could undersatnd if the winning score came in "extra innings", but this was within the game. Is the PAT optional ? I'm really excited for Coach Dodge, the players, and the entire Mean Green Nation. GO MEAN GREEN

Now, I'll Ask Again....who Can Greet The Team
greenjoe replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Aren't they on a charter ? NT WINS -
Actually, I think our entire coaching staff is LEED certified. Very few carbon emmissions.

Welcome GSU. As you demonstrate, there are a lot of "eagles" around the country. But there's only one Mean Green. So welcome and remember you don't have to wait until next year. We play one more home game the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Go Stadium GO MEAN GREEN

Dirty Savage--Were you there last night and 2 weeks ago against FIU ? I thought before the attendance numbers were announced that the 2 games were similar. Even my wife commented as to the attendance being similar to the previous game. If we can catch some good weather against Arkansas State we should set a season attendance record. Thank you Students GO MEAN GREEN

Wow. Well, I certainly can't top that, but I hosted the first event at the Radison (Sheraton as it was known then). The sleeping rooms were not open yet and I had to book the event from a trailer office parked in the parking lot. The morning of my event, the carpet was still rolled up on the bare concrete floors of the ballroom. Nervous ? Yes. David Farmer was a wonderful asset to the Radison and the Denton community. He was an expert on wine and always made events at the Radison special. I don't know where he is now, but I'd like to see him back in whatever new hotel comes to Eagle Point. Those of you that know David might be surprised to know that he was an attorney in a previous life. Thats you North Texas Students GO MEAN GREEN

Glad To See Unt Is Doing Things Like This
greenjoe replied to FanofUNT's topic in Mean Green Football
Just spoke to Bruce. The photos are going to be at the Schrader Pavillion (between the Library and the Union Building). the event goes from 10:00 until 2:00. -
LSU has a University hotel called the College Inn. The Tiger football team stays there the night before a home game. Oklahoma operates the Sooner Hotel. It's walking distance from Owens Field. It's built much like a dormitory with very small rooms, but it's very clean and they bake fresh cookies all day for anyone that walks by the front desk. Arkansas operates a hotel converted from an old dorm. I don't remember the name. I tried to stay there last season but it was booked solid. Thank you NT Students GO MEAN GREEN

Villarreal Issues Challenge To Unt Fans
greenjoe replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
“It has been a struggle and seven hard years to get to this point,” Villarreal said. “Now we are here. You have asked, now it is time to get on board and be a part of the future and what we can be and should be. We are a 35,000-student institution and should be great in everything that we do. The football stadium will help us be great in that area.” I read that this morning. I didn't think of it as a challenge, but we should take it that way. If it is to be, it's up to you and me. Would it be too much to ask that we, the most ardant supporters of NT football refer to the Bowl game the Sun Belt Champ hosts as the New Orleans Bowl rather than the "NO" Bowl. NO Bowl demeans the game and sounds like we're putting our own showcase bowl down. I can't think of any other reference to the Crescent City as NO.

What's Left In Funding For The Stadium?
greenjoe replied to redallover's topic in Mean Green Football
I expect part of the stadium to be the new hotel. And that hotel will be a "classroom" for the hotel and hospitality program. And thereby able to use some amount of state funds. -
Great point 90 GRAD. If this is done, it must be AFTER the game . We've got 2 years or so to do this deal. I wonder how many of that 1952 team are still around ? I think it'd be fun to suit them up ( Jersery only) and have them run a play into the same end zone the first touch down was scored. Who did NT play that day ? And no. I wasn't there.

I mentioned once to a guy, an elderly gentleman, that a lifetime Kiwanis membership was the best value. He replied that he didn't even buy green bananas.

I learned at last week's Coach's show that Ken Bahnsen scored the first touchdown (first 2 actually) at Fouts Field. How about having him score the last touchdown at Fouts with a ceremonial walk across the goal line before the game starts (the last game in 2010 I guess) ? I was with Ken Saturday night and again at Church yesterday. I'm sure he'd do it and since many of us weren't there for his first we could be there for his last. Then we can tear the place down.

I think the "name-on-a-brick" is a good idea. It's a way for us regular guys to participate in the new Stadium. But my question is how much would you pay for a brick ? If the Students pay $30 million, that leaves another $30 million. And that's if the estimates are correct and there are no cost overruns or work order changes. So how much would you pay ? At $125. per brick, we'd need 240,000 donors. That will be offset by bigger donors of course, but even at half of $30 mil, we'd need 120,000 bricks (at $125). Would you, Mr. GMG Poster, write a check for $125. right now ? And keep in mind, this is in addition to your Mean Green donation and your season tickets. The Students (note the upper case "S") have spoken. Now it's up to us. GO MEAN GREEN

Student Government Association Stadium.

Id like Interstate Battery Stadium, if said Interstate Battery donates a ton of money for the naming rights. Otherwise, if we named our old stadium after an athletic director, I say we name our new stadium after an athletic director. Rick Villerreal Stadium. This had been Rick's goal since the day he got here. I think it should bear his name. thank you students GO MEAN GREEN

Where will the results be announced ?

What do they do in case of a tie? Each side gets an equal number of opportunities starting at the 20. Go Stadium GO MEAN GREEN

Most of us that read and post here will cheer, honk our horns, or do something equally stupid in celebration of a new era at North Texas if the Stadium vote passes. What do the "no" voters do ? Could they celebrate that nothing's going to change here ? Do they cheer that they have nothing to look foward to ? Do they raise a glass and tost to their success in holding our University back ? "I remember the time we all got together and kept North Texas from getting a new stadium." Good luck to us. GO MEAN GREEN

I called the SGA office. The very nice young man that answered said the results wouldn't be made public until Monday.

If one wanted to be at the vote count site, where would that site be ? Who does the counting and who does the watching of the counting ? I'm not saying I want to go to the counting, but if I did, where would I go ? Go Stadium GO MEAN GREEN

He's a red shirt sophmore. After giving up one year, he'd only have his senior season if he came here. He wouldn't see the field until the 2010 season.
