  1. The Lab School is / was located on the North East corner of Highland and Avenue C. The East side of this building, by the way, is the sitte of the football field prior to Fouts Field. It too had a track around the field.
  2. Great idea. Post this on facebook. I just knew that this video wa available directly (as opposed to the recording made by a fan at the Tulsa game). I noticed Dibrell coming out of the tunnel and then making the touchdown catch from Vizza. And as for my favorite poster, Quoner, I don't necessarily expect representatives from the University of North Texas to wear green all the time. But most of the time. If this is too difficult, perhaps they should not work for a university whose nickname is Mean Green. Look for me tomorrow. I'll be the guy wearing green. 3. That may effect where you sit on the ride back from the airport.
  4. Good advice from Lou Holtz. 16,232 or 16,231. It's not that big a difference. And some day, your staying home with the wife and new son (?) will pay off big time. Listen on the radio. And be careful about shouting while the baby is asleep. GO MEAN GREEN
  5. Dodge blamed UNT's blocked extra point and field goal on Jeremy Knott not getting the ball high enough off the ground. Isn't this always the reason kicks are blocked ?
  6. I know and like Craig Miller. But we've got plenty of alums like him. It's too bad that he has such a public arena for his distain for NT, but he does. While I like him, I don't listen to him during cloodge football season. Which also means I don't get to listen to George, the biggest fan NT could have with the same public forum. GO MEAN GREEN
  7. Here's an idea. And it's free. Write a letter to the editor to the Denton Record-Chronicle. There have been 2 letters opposing the new stadium fee (the last one today 9-29) and an editorial with an opposing slant to it. Only one guest editorial has come out. It was a well written piece by David Anderson. Write a letter to the editor to P.O. Box 369 Denton, Texas 76202. GO MEAN GREEN
  8. I had a great time this weekend. I really, really like Rice Stadium. It's a classic-old, but still very much up to date. We drove down Friday and were pleased to see so many North Texas fans on the way. Lots of "Talon signs." The Green Brigade was present and professional. I'm sure some think the MOB is fun. I thought they were an embarassment to a fine university. Dr. B. was at the Tailgate Owley and at the game wearing Green. She's a great asset to our University. And by the way, she sat in the heat facing the sun with the rest of us. My wife and I had a friendly disagreement as to which game weekend was the more fun--I liked LSU, while she liked Rice. GO MEAN GREEN--The first LEED GREEN stadium in the nation.
  9. While I think more correct information needs to get oout to more people (read;students), I was told this past weekend by the AD and by the President of the Student Body that we, as alums, should not do anything to try to influence the vote. This is hard for me becausae I am so passionate about a new stadium, but I trust the people in charge and I hope that is the correct thing to do. I'd hate to go against what I was told to do, and then find out that a favorable vote is void because of something I did. GO MEAN GREEN PS I was told voting could ONLY be done on line. That there would be not "paper" ballot. j
  10. That is an odd phrase "After defeats to Vandy and Texas" Owl...the other white meat GO MEAN GREEN
  11. I just called. There is going to be a high school robotics competition at the Colseium that day. Klaatu Barada Nikto
  12. Drex suggested that I could find out about a demolition permit for the Radison. So I did. There has been no permit requested for the Radison, but the very nice lady that answered the call told me that if the property was owned by the University, that no permit was needed. "State trumps city," she said. So I'll look somewhere else. Owl...The other white meat GO MEAN GREEN
  13. My god I forgot how ugly and rediculous our players looked. I hope we never go back to those days again. As for the black jerseys, I really like black jerseys but only if they are a part of the jersey line. Like I would like it if NT had a black jersey as a third jersey but it needs to be well designed in my opinion...not the crap DD made the players wear a few years ago. "Singing Glory to the Green...Singing Glory to the White." No mention of blue copper, or black. GO MEAN GREEN
  14. OK...I contacted my friend that used to attend all the NT games, but especially, back in the 60s. He thinks the opposing team was Cincinnatti and that the coach was either Ed Jucker or Tay Baker. It seems NT got out to a big lead early and the opposing coach (NT coach was Dan Spika) called time out. During the time out, an NT fan ran out onto the floor with a live snake. My friend says he was at this game and had a pretty clear rememberance of that night. I'll try to contact Dan Spika. More updattes later. GO MEAN GREEN
  15. And unless she's a first semester freshman, she probably wouldn't be asked to pay for it ever. If the increase goes into effect after 2001, many current students won't be asked to help. At least not when they sign up for classes. Vote Yes. Vote Green GO MEAN GREEN Funny that that story would follow a Honda commercial that DFW drivers want more "green." I want a LEED Green stadium.
  16. LETSGIVEACHEER is correct. It was the Pit. The visiting coach said in a interview that is was as "bad as a snake pit." I'd like to know who that coach was. I'll work on that. Anyway, that's why our "new" coliseum is known as "the Super Pit."
  17. I'll be there. But I'm not buying the notion that the move to the Ken Bahnsen "Men's Gym" is "a walk down memory lane." There must be something else going on at the Coliseum. I guess I saw my first college game there as well. NT used to have dances at Men's Gym and I heard a lot of bands that came through Denton Back in the 60s. I put up a really good banner when NT hosted Louisville one year. It was so creative, I won a trip to the Dean of Men's office. Is there still a "Dean of Men ?" If you're going to the game at the old Snake Pit, you'd better get there early. I don't think it seats as many today as it did back in the 60s. GO MEAN GREEN
  18. As promised, Rick Villarreal spoke at Kiwanis this morning. He was outstanding. He spoke of the stadium and the student senate vote. But he also talked about what a yes vote, or more especially, a no vote would mean to the University, city and county. The very well written article by David Anderson in this morning's D R-C was also something RV refered to. Though not by name. It never occurred to me that only 120 communities have a D-1 football program. San Antonio doesn't. Amarillo doesn't. Oklahoma City doesn't. Sherevepost, LA. doesn't. What Denton has would be coveted by many fairly large US cities. RV talked about other successes that NT Athletics has had. Basketball, soccer, swimming/diving. Tennis. He never used a note and probably could have talked all day. I was proud. PS. We sponsor a Circle K Club at UNT. There were about 6 or 8 members present this morning. Rick spoke to them. As if they could vote. Oh yeah...they can.
  19. Any clips of Jamario's game at boulder ? I was there and NT had the Buffs reeling for a while. Owl...the other white meat GO MEAN GREEN
  20. I recall back in the 60s when the lights at Fouts Field were replaced. The old (original ?) lights were moved to Bronco Field (Bronco Field originally had lights between the stands and the field). Anyway, the current lights at Fouts are at least the second set of lights. I recall during a game back when Fred McCain was the Athletic Director, we were playing somebody, and I overheard a visiting fan remark about the number of burned out lamps in the lghts. He was convinced that they were unscrewed to spell out "go NT" or something crazy. I mentioned it to Fred later. "We would never do that," he said GO MEAN GREEN
  21. Rick will be our guest speaker next Wednesday, Sept 24. We meet at 6:30AM ( that's right AM) at the Luby's on I-35E. It's next to the Albertson's and behind Chili's and the Blackeyed Pea. The meeting is usually over by 7:45 but for sure by 8:00. Breakfast cost is $7. If you want to come, let me know so I can tell Luby's. There will be an oportunity for Q and A Owl...the other white meat GO MEAN GREEN
  22. That's how stadiums were build back in the old days. Look at Memorial Stadium in Austin. And Kyle field in S.C. They all had tracks before the stands were extended toward the field. LSU's Tiger Stadium looked the same way. There was an old concrete wall originally, and 2 or 3 rows of seating were added in front of said wall. It was done for efficiency. two venues in one. Good idea on paper. Bad idea in the stands. Owl...The other white meat GO MEAN GREEN
  23. The best version of the National Anthem is by our own Green Brigade. I've heard the Aggie Band, the Marine Corp Band, the L.S.U. Band, and the J. Giles Band, and no one can touch the Green Brigade. "But you can't have a full blown band at a basketball game," you say. And that's just a shame.
  24. I just called my hotel (Wednesday morning 10:00am). I've got reservations at a hotel in Houston's Museum District near Rice. They answered as if they've answered the question for the millioneth time. ""We have full lights and power." "So everythings good ?" I said. "We have full lights and power. Yes sir." Game on. Owl...The other white meat. GO MEAN GREEN
  25. If you're already making contributons to the Mean Green Club, and already buying season tickets, Thank you. Your type of fan is what makes the Athletic Dept work. But we're talking about three different things here. First, your season tickets. Tickets are not a contributiion. You are buying entertainment. That's why tickets are not tax decuctible. You're getting something, hopefully, for your entertainment dollar. Next, your Mean Green Club donation is what makes the department run. Without these dollars, nobody coaches, travels, or answers the phone. The stadium is a new expense that we want to create. And I see it as a needed expense. But it is it's own expense. Not to be taken out of tickets or athletic department operations, but it's own line item. Again, if you're already making Mean Green contributions and already buying season tickets, thanks. We need about 100,000 more like you. And if you're waiting to be asked to contribute to the new stadium, well, I'm asking. Don't wait until some paid athletic staff member gets down to your name. You know what's needed. Step us and help make this stadium project a reality. GO MEAN GREEN
