I was listening to North Texas alum Randy Galloway while driving home last night. He was talking about college games this weekend and about his fondness for Kansas State. Then he said, "Ya know where the best college game is this weekend ? It's up in Denton." He went on to say how well NT was doing and how much he liked Coach McCARTNEY. He sure did like Coach McCartney. Finally, one of his collegues mentioned that our coach's name was McCarney. "Oh" said Randy. I guess I was confusing him with that singer from Liverpool." North Texas and UTA were neck and neck as far as enrollment is concerned back in 1985 when UTA dropped football (Their last game was at Fouts and i was in the stands). Since that time, the two schools have gone in opposite directions. North Texas has gone up and UTA has gone down. Colleges and universities get more exposure than some are willing to admit with athletics. Every newspaper in the nation has a sports page. No football means no coverage. I know nothing about journalism. But I understand that the writer of the story and the writer of the headline and by-line are usually not the same person. I didn't like the term "pesky" either, but I'm not sure Bret Vito wrote it. Unless and until we start winning, and start having great crowds at Apogee, we may continue to be pesky. Most of us can't contribute on the field, but most of us can buy season tickets and contribute to the Mean Green Club. To do any less just seems pesky. What's the big deal ? Kansas State beat a bad, bad, bad Miami team. This guy just said so. I thought Kansas State was #14. But apparently they are #21. Upsetting the #21 team won't have nearly the same warm feeling to it but I think Kansas State has set themselves up for a loss. When were you at Kansas State Winters ?
