I think he said that Oklahoma, Baylor, and Rice, along with North Texas have their favorite recruits tied up and there is no need for coaches to still be out on the road talking to prospects. Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN

The orange seats we put in to provide the best contrast for television. Remember, we're talking about 1970s television. The architect was with a firm in Dallas whose name was Klutz (really his name). The color choice had nothing to do with school affiliation or cost. I did a tremendous amount of research on this (even spoke with Mr. Klutz) when we put together the Mean Green Seat Renovation group to recover the seats at the Coliseum. We sold subscriptions on a per seat basis to fans and listed their names on a plaque that is still there today near the Gate D entrance (between the restroom and the concession stand). The seats were removed one or two sections at a time and sent to a company in San Antonio to be recovered. We went through that season with several different sections missing from game to game. Here's a Super Pit fun fact-There are 5 different width seats at the Coliseum to make the rows fit as the seat numbers taper. The original arm rests were wood. The decision was made during the renovation to add cup holders. Since the seats were designed without cup holders, the "sit-down motion" is a bit restricted as the cup holders are wider than the original wooden arm rests. The orange seats were not left overs from the Super Drum in Austin as the UT Coliseum was built after the Super Pit. And the orange seats were not a tribute to then University President C. C. "Jitter" Nolan's school UT. Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN

I wonder if the radio station is donating the booth ? And I wonder if the other radio station, KWRD The Word, does this kind of promotion and if they donate space to Mean Green Athletics ? Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN

Do you remember Bob Tyler ? He came to Denton with his Brooks Brothers suit and shiny shoes and everyone nearly fell over. Here was a former SEC coach, almost in the shadow of Hayden Fry, looking good and promising more good things. We probably ween't what he expected either. I don't have any insights as to what happened, but he was only here one season. 5-7 ? Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN

GMG.com St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dallas
greenjoe replied to greenjoe's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't think this St P Parade thing is going to work. In years past I could front the thing myself and hope I could get most of my money back. This year, I just can't. And believe me, this is a bigger problem for me than for GMG. I can get the parade float part organized, I just can't fund raise as well. Three GMG members have contacted me so far with pledges of $250. We need between $1,500 and $2,000. So, unless I get a bunch of commitments Brelan Chancellor quick, this project is going to have to wait until at least next St. P Day. Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN -
I think it would be fun to have a photo of Johnny Bobsled along side the historic photos in the concourse level at Apogee. Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN

So do I understand that common fans like me can get my picture made standing next to the HoD Trophy ? Where would such a photo be taken ? Do I provide my own photographer or will there be a photographer waiting for me ? Cost of such a photo ? I was planning to come anyway with 2 basketball newbies as well. Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN

Denton native Jordan Malone also made the US team as a multi event speed skater. Maybe NT should add bob sled and speed skating to our list of sports. Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN

Spent a lot mof money on what ? I agree. Perhaps a bunch of phone calls and maybe a visit or two. I am not the fan of hayden Fry that many on this board are. I think he did his job while he was here. He did a good job and the public bought in to what he was doing. However, his first allegience was to himself. And when a better opportunity came along, as most college coaches, he took the better job. Fry was at North Texas for fewer years than any of his other head coaching jobs. The SWC possibility was wishful thinking on the part of Mean Green fans. And since Fry came from a SWC school, many of us thought he had an inside track to SWC membership. Looking back with a more mature eye, it was never to be. And by the way, Coach MaC has a better record through 3 seasons than Fry. Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN

GMG.com St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dallas

Quick update.... I was told this morning that to qualify as a "non-profit" we must product a 401©3 tax exemption. We don't have such an instrument (I'm hoping I can substitute a sousaphone). This means the entry fee is a cool $1,000. That is before we buy or decorate a float. If we are to proceed with the "owning" of the St. P Parade, we need some donations and fast. PM me with your pledges. Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN -
Out of high school, in the same class as Johnny Manziel, Bergland was ranked nationally as either just above or just below Manziel. When he was introduced last year at the signing event at Apogee, I think everyone expected the 2013 team was his to lead. Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN

I wish caps like these (and the shirts that the Athletic Department employees wear) were available to the general public. These "inside" clothing items always look better than what the typical fan can buy. Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN -
2014 Season Ticket Deposits are now Available
greenjoe replied to Eddie Delgado's topic in Mean Green Football
Most of us don't coach. Most of us don't answer the phone at the Athletic Dept. Most of us don't work at the concession stand or check tickets at the gate. But what all of us can do is to buy season tickets. There are a million reasons not to buy season tickets. And there is only one reason to buy...To support Mean Green football. Your season ticket purchase says, "Count me in. I'll support North Texas football with my money and, since I've already purchased the ticket-with my presence." Please don't tell us why you can't buy season tickets. Tell us that you stepped up and put your money where your mouth is. Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN -

I've made some contacts with St. P Parade people and with the Athletic Dept. Nothing yet. If anyone here would like to help with cash donations, I promise, if the parade doesn't happen, I'll refund any money donated. And I'm pretty easy to find. I cleaned up my PM box. I didn't realize I was that backed up. I will check more frequently now. Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN -

I was thinking a weather proof "warehouse" where we could work a little at a time, protect the project from the elements, and be easily transported the day of the parade. I think it should be indoors. i like the idea of Coach MaC and as many players and the HoD trophy being in the parade as well. My thought was a float, not a car with crepe paper streamers, with something to say (ie. Mean Green HoD Bowl champs, 'We know green', etc). Please ask friends if they know of a place around Greenville we could borrow for a short time. North Texas-Dallas' Team Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN -
Now that the dust has settled on the Heart of Dallas Bowl and the Christmas decorations are stored for another 9 months, I'd like to talk about a GOMEANGREEN promotion in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dallas. North Texas has another opportunity to sell itself in the area with a presence in Dalllas. And who knows more about being green than North Texas fans. It seems to me that first, we need to decide if this is worth doing and if so, how do we pay for it. I understand the entry fee is $500. Next, what sort of entry do we do ? Is there a warehouse in the parade area we could use for a month to build a float ? And we'll need workers and riders. And green candy to throw to the thousands of cheering Mean Green fans. Please discuss among yourselves. But discuss it quickly. St. Patty Day is a'coming. Beat Texas GO MEAN GREEN
