  1. Too bad he's hurt, but that may be good for NT. I hope he makes a complete recovery right after the NT game. But all is not lost. The above post says he's "insured." I hope it's not a HMO. Beat Southern Meth GO MEAN GREEN
  2. I have never coached a college football team. Or a high school team or a jr. high team. I have coached a pee wee team. But I do know a bit about business. And although I don't know about the business of coaching, I think a coach that knows his business wants to put the best players on the field if not to win for the "glory of UNT", then to keep himself employed. Or, to make himself attractive for the next coaching opportunity that comes along. Coach MaC has coached in the highest levels of college coaching and I have to think he knows his job. Everybody makes mistakes and Coach MaC mistakes are witnessed by 25,000 critics and video recording. I would hate to think that my career was based on the ability of a 18 to 21 year old to understand and execute instructions. But that's just me. Beat Southern Meth GO MEAN GREEN
  3. I'd settle for a 1.5 point win right now and stay home next Saturday. GO MEAN GREEN
  4. Each separate field is stitched in place. The star is stitched in place. the dark green field is stitched in place, and the lime green field is stitched in place. Nothing, and I mean nothing but the best for my University and my Mean Green friends. GO MEAN GREEN
  5. I was asked about North Texas battle flags. We got 'em. the 3 X 5 is $29.99 and the 4 X 6 is $39.99, plus tax and I'll ship for the cost of the freight and envelope. Call Denton Bicycle Center @‌ 940) 387-9314 or stop by 1700 N. Elm, 76201 M-S 9-6 (and we're open Labor Day). GO MEAN GREEN
  6. WEAR GREEN WEAR GREEN WEAR GREEN WEAR GREEN WEAR GREEN WEAR GREEN and so on...
  7. Hicks was more of a passer but his talent was leading the team. He was probably the best floor director that I've ever seen. I remember his playing against somebody and the opponent's player made a mistake. Hicks pointed to his own head as if to say, "Use your head." That team was my all time favorite at NT. Hicks, Fermia Neeley, DeLonte Taylor and my all time favorite player, Kenneth Lyons. It was a perfect storm. The right players with the right coach playing at least one of the most notable teams in college basketball. If I recall, and it's been almost 100 years, the game was on a Tuesday night. My Kiwanis Club meets on Wednesday mornings. At the time we were meeting at the old Holiday Inn. When I went into the dining room, Abe Lemons was sitting there eating and reading the news paper. I visited with him for a minute and he was very gracious. Here's a quick aside- My wife was a huge Bill Blakely fan. She went to watch him first and the team second. We never missed a game. Among our favorites were Furmia Neeley and DeLonte Taylor. She was pregnant at the time and we kidded that we were such fans that if our first born was a boy, we were going to name him Fermia DeLonte Holland. This story got back to my Mom and it nearly caused her a heart attack. I assured her that if a boy, we'd name him Joe. Which we did. We still laugh about that. Thanks for listening. I'll be quiet.
  8. I was there as well. UNT Campbell's memory is correct except that Pat Hicks put up the shot from the Fouts Field parking lot. Thanks for one of my favorite Mean Green memories Pat Hicks. Congratulations. GO MEAN GREEN
  9. I have no right to say this...I live in Denton and I love North Texas football and basketball. I don't have to drive as far as I do to get to work to get to Apogee. But how do other schools do it ? When my son was at A&M, I saw cars in the parking lot from different states. Hotel rooms were hard to come by and food and gasoline prices were jacked up because of high demand. I sat in the end zone and watched Lamar and Texas State (then called SWSU). I also saw some Big 12 games. So my question is this; do out of town fans not buy season tickets because they're out of town ? Or, if we were bringing Tennessee and Iowa and Texas and Notre Dame and UCLA to Apogee, would those out of town fans find a way to come to 5 home games a year ? Is the idea to watch the opponent or to watch North Texas ? GO MEAN GREEN
  10. I hope all the posters complaining about a 5 game home schedule, and Portland State, and Lamar, and no 1 for 1 or 2 for 1 are buying season tickets. The issue is that we need paycheck game to finance the program. Games we wouldn't need if more fans, and we've got the fans, bought season tickets instead of buying at the gate per game or coming on this board and begging for free tickets. This is a big program and there are too many people looking around expecting somebody else, that "big donor" to do the heavy lifting. Buy season tickets and join the Mean Green Club. The problems won't be corrected over time. In fact, it will take a while even if every one here bought season tickets today. But we've got to start acting like a big program. You. And me. We're the only people here. GO MEAN GREEN
  11. Here is another problem... The Head Coach, Gerry Stamford, although going to North Texas lists his favorite college team as LSU. The same goes for Ass't Coach Anderson who went to NT but is a fan of TCU. Coach Martinez went to NT but didn't choose a favorite college team. But my favorite coach at Marcus, and our only fan there obviously is TYLER FLOYD. Alum and still a NT fan. Does anyone know anything about Tyler Floyd ? The name doesn't ring a Mean Green bell with me. Maybe he didn't play college football. Thanks Coach Floyd. GO MEAN GREEN
  12. This topic is a moot point if North Texas goes to a bowl after this season. If we "hit 6" then I expect to travel with the Mean Green. Sort of a little trophy for being a good fan. If we don't go, then there are too many bowls, or not enough bowls, or the whole bowl system if worthless, or, or, or....
  13. NT must win this game. Do what you can by attending and wearing green. Any thing less will make for a very disappointing season. GO MEAN GREEN
  14. According to the first site I went to, the average temperature in DFW for September 19 is 86 degrees. A million things could happen to effect game attendance. Rain, above average heat, some kind of news event that distracts people, etc. However, all things being equal, the first home game of the season ought to bring out people we might never see again. Oh, and, we must beat Southern Meth. GO MEAN GREEN
  15. For the rest of his career, right after his name and position, the game day program will list NORTH TEXAS as his college. GO MEAN GREEN
  16. Of course we will wear white. It's a road game. The visiting always wears white. But remember, North Texas is the Mean Green. White is ambiguous. Wearing white, you could be a Southern Meth fan or a misplaced Longhorn fan or a parking attendant. Wear green and everyone will know who you are and who you came to see win. GO MEAN GREEN
  17. I'd prefer to see a majority of green September 12. This will only happen if all Nrth Texas fans wear green. Any shade of green is green. GO MEAN GREEN
  18. For goodness sakes, please bring your NT Battle Flag. Leave the pole at home and there won't be any question. Bring it. Wave it. Wear it. Green. Green. Green. Even if the game is not televised, the 10:00 sports guys will mention the overwhelming green to red/blue ratio. Let's give Dale and Steve and Newey something to make a crack about. GO MEAN GREEN
  19. As you can imagine, I'm very pleased about the GREEN t-shirt. Nothing says Mean Green like a green t-shirt. GO MEAN GREEN
  20. Too much baggage. He will never be heard from again.
  21. So now we're talking about flugelhorns, mellophones, and euphoniums. Football season can't get here quickly enough. GO MEAN GREEN
  22. Somebody with a real camera and a ladder could have helped this photo immensely. NT used to hire a team photographer that would come out with risers and make sure every face and jersey number showed up. Maybe they should have tried an oil painting. GO MEAN GREEN
  23. As I recall, this was done during the Craig Helwig era as AD. Helwig had a University of Texas connection and added blue and "copper" (looked like burnt orange to me) to our then logo. Accent colors he called them. I was at the basketball game when Firefighter Rick was sitting in the base line seats with a sign protesting the addition of these foreign colors. As I recall, Rick and his sign were removed from the Coliseum. I think the addition of blue and copper started us down this slippery slope of adding colors to be stylish. White is generic enough but black has no place as part of the brand we are trying so hard to establish. If we don't know what our colors are I don't know why we'd expect others to have a clue. "Singing glory to the green. Glory to the white. for we know our University is striving for the right. " GO MEAN GREEN
  24. Go and wear green. Not the white or black or pink that says "North Texas" in little letters in the corner. From across the field and on television white or black or pink could be Southern Meth fans. Nothing says Mean Green better than GREEN. And nothing will state how well NT travels better than a bunch of green clad fans. Ford Field needs to rock green September 12. GO MEAN GREEN
