I agree with Tyler. Maybe in 2010 we went looking for something that was right under our noses. Canales was so popular after Dodge left, that MaC was all but forced to keep him and give him the silly "Co- Head Coach" title. As far as campaigning for a job, don't we all at some time or another in some way or another campaign for a job (or a customer) ? I appreciate his trying. I'd rather him work hard to get noticed by the people doing the hiring than, "Oh Mike...I didn't know you were interested in the head coach job. I wish we'd known." I don't think Canales ever coached with Fry, never attended school/coached in Iowa, and doesn't have a "big ass ring." Those points alone give him some credibility with me. The most successful coaches in our history came to us after coaching at Baylor. Fry, Corky, and even Jack Sisco. Bring in a winner with ties to Texas. Heck, ties to Denton County. OK...Here's why. North Texas is your school. For better or for worse, you will forever be associated with North Texas. You support your school regardless of record. There are no guarantees as to number of wins per season. See above While you were on campus you made some friends that you haven't seen in some time. Coming to the Homecoming game will give you an opportunity to run into one of two of them. It's supposed to be a pretty day. Any day at Apogee is a good one. Despite what has a been a dismal start to the season, it NT wins, don't you want to be there ? I don't know how many games you've watched so far this year, but are you satisfied with taking someone else's word as to (1) how bad the defense is, (2) the poor quarterback play, (3) the bonehead calls made by the coaching staff, (4) how the band doesn't enter or exit the field correctly at halftime, (5) the estimated attendance, etc. So see there, you've got to come Saturday. What do you get (other than winning, somebody's going to say) by paying a coach a ton of money ? Do successful coaches just not apply for a $750K job ? Does a coach making $2mil get out on the recruiting road more than a guy at $750K Does a $2mil man think better under pressure and thereby calls better plays ? I thought by paying a coach more than anyone in the history of North Texas we'd get better results. Do we get a guarantee with a guy we pay $2mil or just a louder groan if the next guy doesn't succeed ? Or is it a question of "who he is" rather than "what he does ?"

Has anyone noticed that Harry has removed the line "Coach MaC is our leader and he will take us to the promised land" from the Football Forum heading ? I'm not saying I disagree but I think this signals a dramatic shift in many people's perception of our current, however perennial, football state of affairs. Just sayin' GO MEAN GREEN

He's long gone so I shouldn't care, but he did a really good job while he was here. I was shocked when he quit. I wish Bret Vito would do an in depth interview with him and find out the real reason he quit. He started maybe every game for 2 years. I never bought the story that he quit because of a porous "O" line or the losing record. GO MEAN GREEN

No one is happy with the way this season is going. But I think the wearing of a North Texas shirt inside out or the flying of a North Texas Battle Flag sends the wrong message. So here's my suggestion. One that I have not done so far. Write a letter. Write a letter and send it to anybody you're unhappy with and CC the Athletic Director. Write a letter to the President, the Head Coach, the parking attendant and the lady that sell Cokes. A letter just sits there and haunts the reader. It's hard to ignore a letter. Not an e-mail- a real pen and paper letter. GO MEAN GREEN

I think it is more important to note that all scores will be public. To prevent anyone from misunderstanding my loyalties, I always want the Mean Green to win in football, basketball, baseba, ...err, sorry, in everything. And I'm pleased to be in a conference that includes Southern Miss. GO MEAN GREEN

And then you'll hear that a kid either signs here to be close to home or that a signee will de-commit from a faraway school or transfer back from a faraway school. I'd hate to think I had to make a living based on the whims of a 18-21 year old. GO MEAN GREEN
