The wall did not appear to have any padding. I thought the wall was a bit close not to be padded and did you notice the sign on the wall in question ? It advertised "....Medical Center." I wondered if that was where Smith was taken. I'm glad he appears to be OK.

Now I must start by saying I am not as big a fan of Hayden Fry as many on this board. Coach Fry came here after being fired by Southern Meth and did what he was paid to do. More than that, he got the community behind what we now know as Mean Green Football. However, as soon as another opportunity came along, he left for Iowa and was successful there. No problem from me for that. Everyone needs to take care of themselves first. But I digress. When Fry was hired, I'm told there was not enough money available to hire him so the position of Head Coach and Athletic Director were combined. Hayden Fry replaced Rod Rust as Head Coach. For $500. and the lead, name the Athletic Director Hayden Fry replaced. (cue 30 second Jeopardy music). Good luck GO MEAN GREEN

I've always liked the mental image of, "pound sand." I see this guy, kneeling in front of a pallet sized box filled with masonry sand. And the guy is so frustrated that he keeps hitting and hitting the sand expecting something to change. Homer Simpson's dad is the perfect character for my pound sand image. At the coach's show Monday night, while the players were being interviewed, I asked Coach Canales 2 questions. i asked if Denton High running back Xavier Scott was being recruited and if he ( Canales) wanted the head job at NT. He replied "yes" to both questions. Beat La Tech GO MEAN GREEN

I like Canales. I was among those that chanted at Fouts, "We want Chico." And I'll be the first to admit that I know Canales but only in the way that others here know Canales. I doubt he could call me by name if asked. I can't get past admiring his passion and his energy. Maybe every coach considering the NT coaching job has the same energy and passion. I think he could be had for less money than others. But I don't think this is a money thing for Canales. I feel he genuinely wants to be here. I'm told he's a player's coach and I like the way he handles himself at the Coach's Show. Fire away. GO MEAN GREEN

Joe Holland, cub reporter here with an important news flash. The kickoff time has been set for the NT-UTEP game. Kickoff will be at 2:30pm CST. I just got off the phone with the AD that told me that the 14 day rule (whatever that is) had been waived and that the game time was set. We now return you to your ordinary daily activities. UTKFC is like the new high school that opens up and has a homecoming week. At least we didn't lose to the worst team in the nation. That was UTKFC Thanks Coach Canales. GO MEAN GREEN

I went to look at Coach MaC's house yesterday. The Dallas realtor had an open house from 1-3 and there were a lot of people there when I was there. The house itself is magnificent. I understand it's about 5,000 sq ft. It was tastefully decorated and ready to move in. I must admit I felt a bit uneasy walking around MaC's house with him gone. I'm glad I went. All through the house are reminders of past triumphs. There are a few items from Florida, a bit more from Iowa State, and a ton of North Texas memorabilia. This was the home of a guy that truly loved being here. There is a cabinet of game balls given MaC in his career. I didn't want to open the frosted glass case but one I could see was his first win at Apogee against Indiana. I'm sorry that what happened happened. MaC must have enjoyed his time here. I'm sorry he wasn't more successful. Thanks for the good memories Coach MaC. Best of luck to you in whatever is next. GO MEAN GREEN

Checked the mail and there they were. We (home) open against Jarvis Christian (a charter high school I think), Texas College (?), and Idaho ( my favorite beauty pageant). And I thought it funny that the envelope was sealed AND taped. People are always trying to pilfer some Mean Green BB tickets. GO MEAN GREEN Hold the phone.
