Not the same, but similar is the new bowl game being sought for UNM primarily and NMSU secondarily. UNM had a winning season last year and did not get a bowl invite. Now ABQ (home of UNM) is trying to establish a bowl game that will benefit UNM and NMSU. There is a detailed article in the 4-1-06 ABQ Journal that gives more insight into the reason for establishing the bowl. The article closes out with: "And, of course, the underlying reason for all of this hubbub is to spur tourism. It's a no-lose situation . . . a pre-Christmas bowl and a tie-in with shopping." (It appears the bowl will favor Regional teams with fans that travel enmasse and spend lots of money -- possibly not the team with the best W-L record?)

South Carolina should open a New Mexico branch campus; cock fighting is still legal in NM. Disgusting, but legal!

Hey Mean Green Nation, Vote for Mean Joe Green as the #1 Super Bowl Commercial: http://www.cbs.com/specials/superbowls_greatest_commercials/ Go Mean Green!!!

FWIW Rivals now has stAte listed for 22, but does not include Sheffield (Kicker); it shows two 3-stars and twenty 2-stars. This will change, but for now it keeps me entertained! For comparative purposes at this point: 2.29 average stars = Southern Miss has 28 players signed 2.09 average stars = stAte has 22 players signed 1.76 average stars = Memphis has 17 players signed 1.64 average stars = LaTech has 28 players signed
-
Is Brian Sheffield (K) still available? No, the stAte board says we got that guy.
-
Because both schools are located in rural areas and the best players do not want to go there . . . Just pulling your chain guys -- GO MEAN GREEN!!!
-
Agree; I think Chris did a very good job. He is one of my favorites.

NMSU was taken to task in the ABQ Journal (largest newspaper in the state) for the expense associated with the trip to Hawaii for a single football game. New Mexico is a very poor state and the article was not supportive of NMSU's exorbitant travel expenses.

Hey Guy -- Did your team not go 0-12 this year? I sat in University Stadium this year and watched the Lobos beat the crap out of your worthless team. You have no room to diss any other team. Go SBC Football!!!!

I have watched UNT in every NO Bowl game and I have cheered for you guys. I am very disappointed in this attitude towards the SBC rep. Go SBC Football!!!!

Memphis article knocks CUSA teams

A Loser Tech fan linked this thread on the CUSA Board. Check it out, if it interests you: http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/cusa/phpbb/v...000c2b0dd25fb2a -
I watched half the game, but when the wife got home we compromised and watched what she wanted to watch . . . LOL! I was looking for a write up the next day in the Albuquerque Journal sports section and I could not find one. Finally I found a column titled Notes buried on page 7 of the sports section and about halfway down in the column there was maybe 6 or 7 lines devoted to the game. 1-AA National Championship game gets no respect or press in New Mexico; very sad!!!!

From the 12-8-05 Albuquerque Journal: When the chair of the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection challenged the head of the BCS on Wednesday that 1-A football is the only college sport without a playoff system, Kevin Weiberg (BCS Coordinator) replied: "It certainly, congressman, is possible to have a playoff at the Division I-A level, as well. We have chosen not to go that path." The subcommittee made it clear they are not interested in pursuing legislation.

Ditto; I always pull for UNT and ULL. stAte, UNT, and ULL have been associates for a very long time. Go Mean Green!!!!
-
Maybe . . . maybe not. Last year stAte led Memphis in front of 30K at stAte and lost in the final four minutes. Memphis beat Southern Miss this year as I recall. If our offense and our defense both show up for the NO Bowl, it will be a good game. If not, expect a repeat of the NT - Southern Miss game last year.
-
Troy lost at stAte last year and will most likely lose at stAte again this year.
-
That was awesome PR for UNT; your new Athletic Village complex is very impressive. I was pulling for you guys; sorry, it ended the way it did. I thought you guys just might find a way to pull it out, when it got down to a 3 point game.
-
Did you guys notice the Pillow Fight of the Week is Loser Tech vs NMSU? I still think you guys will beat Loser Tech and spoil their homecoming; you lost one game you should not and it was a bad defeat, but you will recover. I have faith in the Mean Green; you are one of my favorite teams!!!! Go NTSU . . . just kidding -- Go UNT!!!!

There is a great view of the Organ Mountains from Aggie Memorial.
-
Agree; the country would go nuts and the backlash would be unbearable for CUSA, the ADs, and Presidents. Tulane will not be kicked out.
-
NO; NT is great for SBC football. However, we all want to kick your Mean Green arses all over the football field . . . LOL!
-
Wrong, it is now the Big West plus Hawaii. Go SBC Football!!!!
-
It is slow; when is kickoff? Anyway, thought some of you might want to defend NT's honor . . . LOL! From College Football News Go SBC Football!!!!

Who Will NORTH TEXAS Beat By The Largest Margin
badgerwolf replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
A MAC fan's take on Tech; just one fan's opinion, but for your Mean Green reading pleasure: LaTech . . . has a few issues blocking it from CUSA. 1.The football program at LaTech isn't very good, and although they might like to think otherwise La-Monroe and La-laf are comparable in facilities and attendance. 2.The men's basketball program is WEAK and poorly attended. Women's basketball totally different as its one of the best programs in the south. 3.The school is small market, really the only think they have going for themselves is CUSA footprint. LaTech's move from the SBC to the WAC has to rank up there with some of the most boneheaded conference moves ever made in Division 1-A. Tulsa, SMU, Rice obviously were only playing in the WAC because they were stuck there after the MWC schools bailed. Couldn't they see the writting on the wall when in 1999 TCU announced its departure to CUSA with SMU being a finalist.....this was before LaTech was invited to the WAC. From a historical prospective, since the early 90's its been a volitle period for D1-A conferences. Ony the PAC-10 has the same membership that it did 15 years ago. Its obvious to most everyone that changes in this day and age are only 5 years away, so why wasn't it obvious to the LaTech administration? The women's basketball program had no problem succeeding in the SBC. Central Florida even agreed to join the newly formed SBC if LaTech agreed to be a part of the new conference. SBC would have never had to chase Idaho for membership and it would be much further along right now. Talk about ego getting in the way of rational decisons.
