  1. Since they had $206 million available for stadium renovation and aren't going to use it.... can we have it.???? We will let them out of the contract to play them if they will grant it to us.
  2. ---Agree.. if the older one can not distance himself from the young freshman... then the freshman is the way to go.... he will get better and will be around longer. ---I also would not afraid of pulling him out if things go badly and the putting the experienced one in... It would not destroy his confidence. Leaving him in might do more harm long term I would think. Pulling him if the game was still very winnable might be a bad idea.
  3. --There is one big difference this year.... New England had Kevin Faulk...who is similiar size and had similiar skills. Kevin had proven to be a good player and Patrick was the new kid. This time Patrick was with Miami last year and they understand what he can do. I expect him to stick and also to be on the sideline.... not on the "taxi" squad.. Let us hope I am right. He appears to be a good 3rd down and passing situation back for them.... and can run if that is the choice instead of throwing. I don't see any other back at Miami that does the same thing that he brings. --- That is the kind of "showboating" that is acceptable to me... spontaneous and just just showing excitement of reaching the end-zone.. not some crazy TO or Chad-Johnson thing.
  4. TICKETS GOING FAST The OU Athletics Ticket Office announced that tickets for Oklahoma's season opener against North Texas on September 1 are sold out. A limited number of single-game tickets remain for the Utah State and Baylor games. They better hope to sell those out the next two weeks. The demand will drop after we have finished with them.....LOL
  5. -- OU plays a very tough team the first week.... they don't want to give away any secrets.
  6. ---The real problem at TCU..... despite winning they have no local rivals and the fan interest is poor... they don't care much if you beat a college a 1000 miles away... they don't know anyone there and almost no one they know is an alum from there. The SWC was all about regional teams with a lot of mixing of alums and students... and it created interest. This is sort of true on the Big XII as well but TxTech vs A&M games get better coverage than Colorado vs. A&M games... again more local interest from BOTH sides.. TCU better keep winning or interest in them will shrink to about nothing...as SMU's support has.. ---We sort of have the same problem... not any real regional (local) rivals. Our attendence would jump if we did. We do have big advantage over TCU and SMU... a much larger alum base to pull from... We just need better name opponents (hopefully regional ones) and be successful at the same time. ---I am guessing that in 10-15 years.. we will be the "University Team " of the metroplex. The other two are smaller and don't have as wide of appeal... at least TCU has not managed to tick off the locals like SMU and their arrogant attitudes has.
  7. ---To me when the schloarship runs out.. it runs out.... Then they get to pay for their education like the rest of us do.... and in most of our cases by working and/or parental help. ---Being an athlete is hard work... so is working at McDonalds or where-ever for minimum wage at often bad hours. A lot of kids put theirselves through college by working..... and can't take full loads just as some athletes find difficult to do as well.. I have a great deal of respect for both groups. Too bad a few of the athletic group thinks the world owes them... the McDonald group never does. --Changing coaches is a risk to the student-athlete.... just as after college when your company changes management or is brought out. Life can be tough and sometimes doesn't seem fair.
  8. --- I don't see that closing practice especially in the first year of being the head coach is being "disrespectful" of anyone. I would think banning them later in the year and maybe next year for the first week might be counter-productive though. Winning or doing well at the start will get us a lot more respect than opening practices from day one. We are not being rude to them ... just not allowing them to view what is happening..... never again (under Dodge) will opponents know so little about what he may do. ---Letting them in also just opens the door for criticism of his methods and activities... he has enough problems now on that front because he is a HS coach who is becoming a college coach. How is keeping them out being disrespecful...?? It may not media friendly but not insulting nor a sign of disrepect..
  9. The CFL season is well under way and has been for a while... He turned down a CFL contract to sign with Buffalo. That looks very unlikely this year.
  10. Navy and Army plus the football playing Big-East Members is only 10 members. If it expanded to 12 no big deal because then teams don't play everyone... Army-Navy game ruined...???... ..don't think so.. Texas and A&M still play Thanksgiving week even after joining the Big-XII.
  11. The world is about to end.... must be... Flyer asnd I agree on something.. Some people work at McDonalds and get through college... some people work on the athletic field.. Once you don't go to McDonalds anymore .. they don't pay you... same with athletics. At least at athletics you got a lot of attention from others and that can help you in the future... At McDonalds.. the public just says.. WHO?? Enjoy it and benefit from the scholorship while it lasts... when it is over it is over... hope you got an education or at least most if not all of a degree for when your playing days are over. All good things end. Hope another good thing can start then.. and it problably will if you learned anything. I am not very young and have seen a lot including a few athletes who felt the world owed them because of what they did for a few years in college. They need to forget about it and get busy and get on with life. ---------------- For some getting through college is tougher than the life they face afterward with a mortgage and kids..... it was for my wife.. who lost her father as a result of WWII.
  12. --- Another factor and pressure on the Big East...... I keep predicting it to come apart... too many teams and too many that do not play football.
  13. Anyone know anything about Quinn... Out of football???
  14. Best post in the thread.... (my oppinion) --At this point everyone including opponents are wondering what his NT offense will look like... [ plus the first two opponets are not that far away from Denton ] After a game or two I suspect things will change somewhat..... patience... It likely will be different next year also when teams know what to expect anyway.

  16. --It has been a bad year for MUTS.....which is also true around Vick's neighborhood.
  17. --Not really... it may be an age thing.. first the figure seems to have a beard... not many women (that I know) have beards. and second..people as old as I am often refer to every male as a boy.....and no it is not because 90% of the world is younger than I am now .. we have always done that to some extent..... such as let's get the boys together for a game of cards... etc. Common phrase I and many of my friends use: "That boy has a problem". Let's give those SMU boys a'beatin.!!
  18. --Looks like the Mafia "worked-on" that boy on the flag..!!! Had a Italian roomie at NT... Francis Giacomo "******" aka Frank. His mother was a small Italian born lady and I don't think she could talk unless her hands were moving. ....LOL
  19. ---Vizza, don't leave home without him !---
  20. ---Baptist preachers forbid "Tootsie Wootsies" (at least publicly)
  21. ---Back in the era of TV series "Untouchables" the Italian-Americans had a bit of a problem with the program's portral of Italians and so many Italian names as gangsters. I know times have changed some but I would be careful... He might like it and he might not. Might try to find out somehow. If his HS did something similiar then I would not worry about it. I suppose doing it one game would not hurt and then stop if he objected.
  22. ----There were probably a lot of them.... I have heard of people seeing "wrong T-shirts" in foreign countries ... such as Chicago, Super Bowl Champs 2007. Apparently some venders hedge their bets and print both to sell after the game at more than double price ... then donates the wrong one to some charity group in a foreign country. ... so next time you are wondering around the Amazon or where-ever... keep your eyes open for a wrong T-shirt.
  23. Idiots.... You need to take in consideration that he attends OU.....poor guy. Reminds me of the old joke about the dumb Texas that moved to Oklahoma.... and improved the average IQ of both states.
  24. ---The guys who can kickoff a long way but can't get it between the posts suddenly have some value. They will kick off but will not do field goals and extra points.
  25. ---I am not suggesting that... I am just pointing out universities that build or play in large stadiums will have much more trouble meeting that percent "requirement". I understand the real purpose it trys to accomplish... to improve attendence.... I just think the 75% part of it is silly.....even if gets to 75% ...keep going... try to get the attendence to 90% or beyond.
