  1. --The Big-10 is a cupcake conference.. A Sunbelt team ( a rather new A-I team, FAU) beat Minnesota today. Michigan is supposedly the conference best and starts at 0-2 with a loss to a I-AA team.... and the two teams that have played Big-12 teams have lost. But I have admit Wisconsin did defeat Citadel today 45-31... but then again that is 31 points to Citadel who has been one of the worse teams around (I-AA Citadel had more yards and as many first downs). Even mighty "ranked" Penn State gave up to 24 today to THE worst team in America... Buffalo. Oh yeah, Ohio State is losing at the moment as well .... to an unranked team. Kidding a little but they are they are not all that good either. Their opinion of themselves is not "square" with reality. ...Go Belt!!!
  2. ---Maybe the Sunbelt teams are not the cupcakes that some think.. Troy defeats Oklahoma State and FAU is destroying Minnesota. Keep up the good work... by the way FAU has 395 yards passing in FIRST half of the game. We put 601 in a entire game and MTSU put up a bunch (290 passing, 555 total yards plus 42 points ) against Louisville ... Can we say...PASSING CONFERENCE with no defense... BEAT FAU and then the Arkies, and then ........
  3. ---and dthe next week the Owl football team got into a brawl with University of Miami... Lots of film of that one.
  4. ---Since San Antonio has no I-A or pro-football and is one the largest cities in America I would think they would be excited about having a football program and would work with them and charge very little more than expenses. Some profit is better than an empty building anyway plus it is an opportunity to advertise San Antonio to America especially with the UT-SAN ANTONIO name. . I doubt the fact the fact that the Alamo Dome is ten miles away means much. Smu played in the Cotton bowl for decades. Miami and Southern Cal (also in large cities) don't play on campus either
  5. ---Is Michigan or Notre Dame available??? LOL
  6. My guess is that Riley will red-shirt next year. Meager will be a senior and Vizza could be the QB. Why burn up a year of eligibility to play if there are capable QBs as upper classmen? .
  7. ---We need some talented also fast safeties and corners........ That has killed us in the past two games... passing yards have killed us.. I can not imagine how bad we would be this year if DD was still here. The talent pool had run dry and recruiting at this point was about nill and he seemed to just take whatever was left over after the "big boys" had signed theirs. Cobbs was very good but he was an accidental recruit.... he just appeared (was not recruited) and asked about playing here. DD's recruiting was severely lacking.
  8. RE: two Monday games-- Not a bad idea to kick off season....besides that late game, although pretty late for us here in Texas and even later in the East, started at 7:00 in the Pacific time zone which is where both of those teams are located. For once they had a Monday Night game that started at NIGHT and ended at night and not starting at 6:00 PM. Regarding the injury.... most coaches constantly tell players to not duck their heads when making contact... he did... and it injured him.. football is dangerous but a lot of serious injuries can be avoided if actions are done right.
  9. Note: The game was AT SMU... therefore no one except them or their players really matter according to their opinions. Just expect this to occur.
  10. Thanks... learned something.
  11. ---I have heard that the legislature (House of Representatives actually) had approved changing the name from NTSC to UNT in 1961...... but ... the Senate would not approve it (too many UT grads) and at least one of them said "We have a Univ of Texas and we are not about to have a Univ. of North Texas". They sort of had to eat crow a few years later (1965) when they had were hit by the baby boomers and was hurting to fund colleges properly. The UT-A&M system had far more money than they could reasonably spend and the rest , especially us and Arlington State University was "starving for money. ..... The solution: rename Texas Western and Arlington State and put them into the University lands system as UTEP and UT-Arlington which gave them plenty of money and freed up the funds they were using for us and other state supported colleges. ---It was possible to buy car window stickers at a store near campus when I was at NT in 64-66 that said "University of North Texas". Someone had jumped the gun and printed up a bunch of them ans stilll had some.. ---Officially we are Eagles but the athletic teams are usually referred to as the Mean Green. Lots of colleges have double names including Alabama, Notre Dame, and Tulane... sort of. Bama: Red Elephants or Crimson Tide ----- Notre Dame: Fighting Leprechauns or Irish.... and Tulane uses a Pelican mascot but calls themselves Green Wave. ---Ever noticed that Texas Tech's school song is "Hail to the Matador" but they call themselves Red Raiders (looks like a Picador)..... confused people..... changed the Mascot but not the song.
  12. 0-3 hmmmm-- We owe them a loss and a lot of points.
  13. --What a schedule.....#6 Florida one week and then NAIA (who) West Virginia Tech.. Next I-AA Eastern Kentucky. Their ( WKU) players will be totally nuts by the end of the year after facing that kind of variety.. Can you even imagine how many yards our passing game can put up on them if we can get 230 on OU and 601 on SMU ????
  14. --Forgive them, they know not what they do..... they go to smu and are not very educated.
  15. ---You can't fix everything at once and Dodge needed receivers etc. to run this offense...besides freshman are more likely to help offense than defense because physical maturity matters more there (strength, size). You have to remember the defense is mostly DD boys and we won only 5 games in two years. Patience... At least what we are seeing is entertaining...and the offense is a lot of fun to watch in the meantime......We threw for 601 yards against SMU, the most EVER in a game and almost 1/2 of we threw all last year. Can you just imagine what will be going on when our defense even gets to average....much less very good?? ---As for fans... don't you think a lot of people would like to see an offense and that kind of yards and actually points (and we could have easily had 28 more points but turned the ball over or some other bad thing happened. Also their punters were very lucky to get the punts to roll sideways inside the 5 a few times. UNT had more first downs and more yards but unfortunately more turnovers...thus was outscored.
  16. --- I am pretty sure this is correct. If there is any possibility of red-shirting a player....don't put him on the field.
  17. No.. you are ( not your) wrong .. it makes sense to call for a fair catch when you are planning to let it go... the defense may slow up and give the ball time to bounce or roll into the end-zone. With no call they will keep coming and and may down it near the goal.. We just got unlucky... the ball got near the goal and then went sideways.... He did nothing wrong.
  18. From Yahoo article-- North Texas, under first-year head coach Todd Dodge, recorded a school record 613 yards total offense. North Texas quarterback Daniel Meager set school records for passing yards, completions and attempts. Meager finished 46-of-64 passing for 601 yards and three touchdowns and three interceptions. Meager had scoring tosses of 4, 25 and 26. Wide receiver Casey Fitzgerald also set a UNT single-game record for receiving yards with 327 yards on 18 catches with two touchdowns
  19. --That may THEIR opinion.... I would never say that. A lot of them just want you to think they have money and try to live that way but really don't have much (I could name a few). Granted some really are wealthy but then my NT suite-mates were far from poor. One drove his moms' cast off Caddy and his father owned a construction company. His roomie owned a large ranch in Colorado and had a private air-plane.... Doubt that most SMU students could match either of them. I am not poor and a couple of SMU people I know around here are not even close, or as educated either. As for the trash name... a person who treats others poorly is trash in my mind.... not their income level as long as they working and treating other people well. ---Multi-Millionairs out here laugh about being oil-field trash and don't necessarily always dress all that fancy or that clean at the momment. ....
  20. I remember hearing a similiar comment from an opposing coach about Jimmy Johnson when he took over the Cowboys.... about how simple his offense and defense was compared to most NFL teams... He won two Super Bowls about 3-4 years later. The talant and especially the speed and quickness (not same) of the receivers killed us.
  21. We don't have a monopoly on it... Most TCU students/alyums have about the same opinion of them--- as well as al ot of alums of other schools. It is all about their disrespect and thier attitude toward others and their arrogance (never have figured that one out, most I know aren't any smarter or richer than most of us). In fact some of them seem to act that way hoping that others will perceive them as "superior people" when they know they aren't. The ones with a poor attitude seem to outnumber those who seem rather "normal".
  22. Looked to me that the SMU running game is pretty bad except when the QB takes off. If we can contain the QB's passing and running it appears as if we will defeat them. He seemed to be about all they had on offense.
  23. We did a lot better that the Aggs did in that game.. 77-0 game (after 3 quarters) Team Statistics Oklahoma to Texas A&M TOTAL FIRST DOWNS 33 to 3 TOTAL NET YARDS 639 to 54 Total Plays 82 to 42 NET YARDS RUSHING 342 to 22 NET YARDS PASSING 297 to 32 Things happen.... we did poorly but the guys did not throw in the towel as the Aggs did that day it appeared... They appeared to just quit. We did get 10 points, not zero, and we passed for over 230 yards. Our offense just could not stop them at all on passing plays...they were too fast and very good.
  24. Taken from Yahoo news article, sounds good for Patrick and may mean playing time...note the order the names were listed... Green hopes to reverse quarterback decline with Dolphins.. Green may have his work cut out for him. The Dolphins' offensive line features a new starter at all five positions. They're expecting big things of rookie first-round draft pick Ted Ginn Jr., who has the tools to be a top-flight receiver but obviously not the experience. The backfield remains a question mark. Ronnie Brown has done nothing to suggest he was worthy of being picked second overall in 2005. Journeyman backups Patrick Cobbs and Jesse Chatman have both looked better in camp.
  25. ----Don't judge of any college by the actions of few drunks.. Unfortunately we all have a few of them... --- On the other had SMU has done and said a lot mean things about us and to us when completely sober.... those are the thing that really bother me.... plus the "I am greater than thou attitude" that so many of them display constantly.
