  1. CUSA took a double hit tonight. Arkey State of the Sunbelt defeats Memphis..... 35-31 Boise beats Southern Miss.. 38-16
  2. ---The OSU coach had a valid point but he absolutely went way too far and became almost irrational.. ala. Mora (Playoffs, PLAYOFFS!) and Herm Edwards in NY. Some of these media types don't have a clue anyway, a ESPN guy yesterday referred to Troy as a I-AA team and some claim to be experts on sports they never played or even really understand all that well... Some of these people just badger athletes and coaches just to sell papers or improve ratings.. They ain't the most brilliant minds of the world. ---I do have a problem with trashing (and insulting) high school and most college athletes for their performance ... but not if if they are involved in something illegal or something of questionable character.... .. They are not paid (other than tuition) and are usually trying to succeed even though they sometimes can look pretty bad. Pro athletes (or coaches) are a totally different matter... trash them all you want... they are making big bucks, maybe ten or more times what the average person makes and are mature people and may absolutely deserve it. Besides all other professions receive criticism when they do poorly as well... why not pro-athletes. I guess McNabb thinks he should be exempt... it was all about performance not another issue. .
  3. Teams NT/FAU first down----24/12 tot yards....397/248
  4. --Tech is having trouble tackling today.... the score is 42-42.... 12 minutes left.
  5. ---I have heard several times that there attendence is rather poor........ in fact can anyone name any division I university in a large city with a pro-football team that has good attendance. ?????
  6. The article never said the gun was loaded and "in the open"....I think you are making assumptions that aren't stated... He doesn't have any kids does he?? I had a visiting kid go into my bedroom closet and get one once... it was not in the open. and it also zipped up in a gun case. It wasn't loaded but had a couple shells in the case. I had loaned it to someone who returned it with the shells in the case.. I did not look when it was returned and did not realize they were there. I about passed out when I saw the kid with the gun and the shells. From that point on I always check the gun before putting it up and completely out of sight... even in the top of a closet. This is one thing I have noticed... a lot of city kids do not really understand the danger of guns... kids that have a somewhat rural background do. I also have noticed that rarely are rural and semi-rural people really overly facinated by guns, they regard them as tools with a purpose. The last time I really needed one was when a huge agressive (eye to eye) EMU rooster found me in the open and wanted to fight me, fortunately I had a gun but unfortunately only one shell (I was thinking about a snake situation not a giant bird) I slowly backed my way into a pickup (about a 100 yards away) with the end of the barrell a few inches from his chest. Did not dare shoot because was not exactly sure where his thin body was under all those ruffled feathers. Sure did not want to make him madder than he already was. I own the land, would have never guess there was a group out there.... guess he thought I was a threat to him and about three hens that were there... who knows where they came from and how they got there. The next time he did that I was ready for him.. The coyotes ( I think) eliminated the rest.
  7. No.... not if that team is SMU... "Nice" article on SMU and then Gov. Bill Clements http://espn.go.com/page2/s/list/lies.html
  8. ---Wasn't LaDainian Tomlinson at TCU when Fran was there...??. He could make a lot of coaches look good, even bad ones. Fran's teams have been blown-out a lot ( say good-bye and put your house up for sale). Slocum's were very good on defense but not very exciting on offense and had difficult times coming from more than 10 behind. His teams were very old-school traditional in a league that was changing more to run and gun as.. Tech being the extreme case.
  9. This is a post on my fantasy football league (from an Aggie grad) ...LOL FOR SALE, BIG-XII COACH, USED For sale Big 12 coach unable to beat teams above Sunbelt, Big Sky, or WAC. Will trade for High School Special Teams Coach, or a good hunting dog. (Dog must be able to find endzone) Contact: Texas A&M Athletics Dept. Aggs defeated Monroe. Montana St, and Fresno... which explains the conf. names... Lord help them when they face OU... Miami lost by 38 to OU and had less a lot less yards and first downs than we did. Miami had 7 First Downs, we had 13. Remember OU defeated Aggs 77-0 in 2003 and never even scored the final quarter..... that was also coached by Fran. (it could have been much worse if Stoops had not been calling really basic plays, like hand-off straight ahead to the 5th team and let clock run). I think they are considering the dull Slocum years as the good old days now. That was the worst game I have ever seen... even worse that our loss to UT a few years ago. Our OU game this year was exciting compared to that one, at least we scored, made several first downs and 200+ yards.
  10. ---It is pretty bad when the person writting for the sports section of the university paper thinks we have lost three games.... This points out the real problem of attendence especially of attendence from the students. Even the sports guy doesn't seem too much of a "rabid" fan. It is also a problem when they don't know the mascot of opponents. Can you imagine an Aggie or UT fan not knowing the mascot of other Big-XII teams??? disgusting. Messing up Arkie State is undestandable since I still see and hear the Indian reference in print and on ESPN at times. Really DISGUSTING when he doesn't realize how many games have been played, either that or he is too dumb to count to two. .. maybe he should be reassigned to cover the drama department... he is no sports fan.
  11. I could not get 2007 results ... not posted I guess. 2006-fall UT- San Antonio .... 28,379 2006 fall Tex-State ................ 27,485 UT Dallas smaller than I had been told, still under 20,000, I had heard it was about 25,000. 2006 fall TxTech ........... 27,996 now slightly smaller than UT-SA .... I am betting Texas-State passes them this year. I assume that includes their medical school and law school which is on the main campus. The upper two are growing faster than we are...Tech isn't. ________________ It is easy to see why UT-SA and TxState want to become a division I football school because of their large enrollments and in an area of a top-10 city (population wise) of no pro or division I football. It seems to make sense to add them (or one of them) in the future. Most people have no clue how large they are just as people away from Dallas area are shocked to find out North Texas is larger than Tx Tech is..
  12. --Obviously he is no saint but I agree with Rick that he is not THAT bad either. He likely did not know Illinois law about gun possession or registration and never checked.. If having a gun in a car was illegal here then I am a hardened criminal because I grew up with one in my vehicle (we had cattle and snakes). If he is from Arizona he likely had no idea the law was that different. I see the aggravated assault charges were dropped and the "assault " was verbal not physical. I don't own or like assault weapons but I know of people who own them here in Texas and have them in their homes. 40 mph in a 25 mph zone...how often do I see that happen every day. His drunk driving charge was bogus because he was under the legal limit. The murder situation is bad but he apparnetly did nothing illegal.... just guilty of bad judgement of being present. I think Chicago over-reacted because of the Pacman Jones situation. ---Sounds like he is bit stupid and very unlucky..... and not really an outlaw. I do not see that he is guilty of any violent act or theft. He may be a better guy than some of these tele-evangelists (con men) that constantly rip people off and have all sorts of morality problems....
  13. UT-San Antonio, UT Dallas, and Texas State are not far behind us and may be ahead of TxTech now.
  14. --The Syracuse home uniforms are worse than both of these combined.... They should only be worn on Halloween (in the dark) . Even their team at 0-3 isn't that bad.
  15. ---Nothing like enthusiastic optimism from our supporters---
  16. --- Several good friends of mine are lawyers... and what you said is true.... My friends say a SMU law degree is good to have if you work in Dallas... BUT if you decide to go elsewhere it can sometimes work against you because of the attitudes aquired there....one said he had known of people who flat would not hire them if someone else was available. One of my sons is now a 3rd year law student, accepted at SMU, went elsewhere.
  17. The last sentence, Well said. ---I teach mathematics in a community college and I have a lot of students in my classes (the business math ones) that work for local finance institutions (banks, etc.) I have had many students comment about never judging people about how they dress or look. Some of the best dressed one are in there to cover a pile of bad checks.... meanwhile some of those that come in with not-so new khakis, shirts, etc. have bank accounts worth several 100 thousand or more (often in the oil business)... you never know from their looks or their treatment of others that they have what they have..... true class.
  18. ---There is some truth in this But colleges with less enrollment have more people in attendance than we do... One of the big problems is lack of students in the stands compared to how many students we have. Also we are in a much more populated area than Tech is but they can draw twice as many people to their games even against poorly known teams.. We are more than double Baylor's size and they outdraw us as well even against lesser non Big-12 opponents. Our student support is the biggest problem... if that improved, then alum support would eventually improve as well in the future.. My solution --Move North Texas to the middle of West Texas (kidding) and we will fill those stands. Many of our HS games can draw 20,000.
  19. --I do not know where to start with all these comments----but here goes. ---First: The first post written by an SMU alum explains a lot. So many of them think that money is the answer to everything and that because several of them have quite a bit they are "entitled" to a great team and success in football and in life.... That is what got them the death penalty.... It also explains why so many people outside of SMU dislike them... their attitude and their belief that since their education was extremely expensive that they are "entitled" to respect, success, and that others are inferior. I will admit, that not all SMU students and alums are this way BUT a large percentage of them are and reflects poorly on all of them. In the article he "belittles" Tech, TCU, Arkansas State?, Sam Houston, UTA, and NTSU (LOL)...... which demonstrates exactly what I am pointing out.... no respect for others and a false sense of superiority. He is now realizing that their football is not a top program but he is also delusional about the "superior" academic program as well and is still holding onto that false claim. Reminds me of a group of very ugly girls telling each other how beautiful they are.... SMU grads are still trying to convince each other that they are superior to the rest of us. . I'm becoming more aware of the fact that their board is full of some of the most uneducated college football fans than any other board I read. Rick I would not limit it to just football knowledge, absolutely life in general, and academics for many of them. Just because their education (or anything else) is expensive does not mean it is good. Can someone tell me why we are the least bit interested in SMU's problems? This thread is a waste of server space. --Deep-Green They have been THE college team of the Dallas area for a long time and in direct competition with us for attention from the media and fans... They are rapidly losing credibility in the Dallas area ( and the state) and we are gaining respect in the Dallas area as well as through out the state (I do not live in Dallas area). They have constantly for decades "trashed" us and the more they get discredited, the better for us.....either that or they need to change their attitudes and don't hold your breath for that to happen. AND LAST--- Two final comments-- First comment: There are some good decent SMU grads but there are so many of them that are arrogant SOBs that they make the whole group look bad.... sort of like an outlaw in a family reflects on the other members so much that people tend to not trust the other family members much. Second comment: I mistype and misspell with the best of them (every person should be able to spell words more than one way--a quote by Mark Twain and Ben Franklin) but people who misuse "there, they're, their, lose, loose, your, you're, etc." should check their comments... this too is very public and reflects on our UNT group and our education level. Apologies to SouthernStang... you don't seem like most other ponies I have known. It is very frustrating to most of them to accept they are not superior to the rest of the world.....
  20. ---most be having a lot of them.... I prefer the group at the SMU game.
  21. You are right somewhat...(I own it and have read it**) .... but that really has not been the case in the past 40 years. They (Darrell Royal) scheduled us when none of the Texas SWC member teams would. Arkansas (an out of state team) did a couple of times about 1970 but during the 50's 60's and 70's the rest ignored us and would not put us on their schedule.. .Houston did but they were not yet SWC members.. Also Darrell Royal (UT) and Frank Broyle (UA) lobbyed for us being in the SWC... SMU did us in when they convinced TCU and Baylor to vote with them against us. We needed 7 of the 9 members to vote yes... but received 6....thanks to SMU and their efforts..... ** much of that time between 1920-1940 ecomonic conditions in Texas were tough and all colleges were fighting for funding and to survive including UT. it was a completely different world then..... many didn't.
  22. I am a TEXAN.... I support any Texas team against outsiders.... unless the outsider is a SunBelt team (exception SMU ...because of their attitude toward us)_)
  23. Second lesson homonyms (Your/ You're): You're right. Your comment was right. ---commonly missed by several folks. --
  24. Look at the score----- Q.E.D.
  25. --Never-- Would a true Aggie want his team to lose to UT so that his conference and state have a university be national champion??? A statement like that is heresy...
