Espn Just Reported- Cobbs Starting On Sunday
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Baby Arm!'s topic in Mean Green Football
This was posted 11:52 (10:52 central time) It indicates Chatman will play... and likely be the starter. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Aq8v...mp;type=fantasy Jesse Chatman: (Ankle) Expects to Play Sunday RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com Thursday, November 29, 2007 Update: Chatman (ankle) practiced on Wednesday and expects to play against the Jets on Sunday, the Miami Herald reports. Recommendation: Chatman said his ankle was fine before the Monday night game against Pittsburgh and only began to trouble him again as a result of the muddy conditions. He was limited in Wednesday's practice, but coach Cam Cameron expects him to be ready for Sunday. If Chatman struggles, Cameron won't hesitate to sub in Patrick Cobbs or Samkon Gado against a terrible Jets rush defense. Nothing posted on Miami Dolphin (NFL) site. Don't get too excited yet.. -
Utah State Head Coach Rips Sun Belt

Misery loves company.... His program is bad.... so he tries claim a lot of other programs are as bad or worse. His credibility is even worse.. inaccurate statements and poorly written... not exactly a ringing endorsement for that college. -
---I don't think there is any need to eliminate the "Holiday" bowls at all. I favor a eight team playoff and those teams who are not invited to participate can then go to various "Holiday"bowls. Most of them now have little impact on the "National Championship" anyway. With only eight teams in the Championship race there would be a lot of very good teams left to go to these bowls... That is what they once were anyway.. a reward for a good season. The AP poll once was finished after the regular season and was not done after the bowls. It is a rather odd thing now since many of those teams in bowls have not played a game in over a month and there is a lot of pressure to win... The current system makes little sense to me. ---With a 8-team playoff they would be playing immediately after the season except for the Holiday Bowl teams which would a decreased pressure to win and those would actually be a reward for a good season. Because of finals, one or two games could be played in early December and the final Playoff games (eight teams would require three) could be a couple weeks later after finals. This would only involve 4 teams playing two post-season game and two playing three games. These guys all play one post-season game now anyway. I am sure some argueing would exist who should in the eight but this is a large enough to contain the team that should be considered the "best".

Would The Pit Crew Be Interested In These

--ALL BODY PARTS..??? ..maybe a Nuns habit... but not those "outfits". -
UT-Arlington is now 5-0... We are their best win but they have Wichita State, TCU and Okie State soon. Sam Houston is 4-0 with a win over TxTech who has defeated Gonzaga. One thing I like about basketball is a lot of what are considered smaller schools can do very well... it doesn't take many really good athletes to excell in basketball.. unlike football.

Kicked off... Translation... Recruited several outlaws. Quit or transfered..... Translation: The players they recruited hated the place as bad as we as we do and surrendered their free education to get away.... To quote Dandy Don Meredith (SMU grad, long before the cheating era).. "If if and buts were hickory nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas... If we had recruited Michael Jordan and a few others we might have several National Championships.....but we didn't and SMU is an awful place and has awful sports teams.... even their recruits can't stand to be there.... they leave... ----My statement doewsn't seem to be an exaggeration.... they hated it and left....

Did Alabama people die because of the loss.....?????..... They did at the other events he mentioned. ---He must have failed history.... Pearl Harbour was a PART of WWII...... we were already preparing for war as fast as we could. U-boats had been sinking shipping a few miles off our coasts for months (the public in general did not know this) and we were contructing weapons and army bases as fast we could at the time. My father working was constructing one when Pearl Harbour happened. When Germany invaded Poland (1939) we only had about 170,000 men in uniform.... not enough really to fight anyone... Our early soldier trainees used wooden guns because the army did not own enough to go around and could not even locate any. That is really the reason we did not involved earlier.....no trained men and no pile of weapons....and many of them were way outdated... This guy is a nut.

Pit Crew Deserves Major Props...
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to ParksAndRecRick's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Really... got to agree with that one... (#1, many students/profs need to hit the highway for Thanksgiving.. they puts them driving late at night). We (MC) shut down classes at 5:00 PM on Wednesday (no evening classes) and I suspect most of our Wednesday PM classes which are mostly labs will be doing very little, in fact our math labs shut down at 12:00. We never have classes after 5:00 before a holiday break. -
---You have to be careful about calling people "CUPCAKES" in basketball. Sam Houston just beat TxTech, New Orleans beat North Carolina State, and I'll bet that Okie State considered us one. Don't confuse rankings and reputations in football with basketball... It is a different world. ... Duke is a great example. --- In fact a lot of great JC teams could take out major colleges if they scheduled them... Midland College was once playing with three future NBA players at one time and all three of them played in the NCAA finals a couple years after graduating from MC. One had not met minimum NCAA requirements and the other two were overlooked by major colleges --Spud Webb and Mookie Blaylock. They are not the only future NBA players to walk through the doors here. Some are overlooked because of size or maturity, some are foreigners and speak broken English, and some just keep growing or had injury problems in HS and did not get signed. Not a MC player but Dennis Rodman did not play basketball fresh out of HS and was less than 6 feet when he graduated from HS. --In short, you need to look at their record this year and pay little attention to the school name in the basketball world.. They can be great one year and just so-so the next and the reverse applies also..... there are so few few players in B-Ball that changing 1-2 of them can really make a difference in both directions. If a team suddenly finds two great players, then they are a problem to deal with.

---No off-shoot... Was known as Arlington State when I entered college and it changed names in 1966? to UTA . At the time of the name change it was equal in size to North Texas. It seemed that we would be larger in the Fall and they would be larger in the Spring...guess we were flunking more students out... that was pretty easy to do then, earlser than now at mid-term according to requirements in the catalogue published. Both had about 13,000 students at the time. Flunking out was very bad for males then.... it probably meant you were about to be going to the rice-paddies of Viet-Nam. I have wondered if dropping football contributed to the fact they did not grow as fast as we did after they did that. ---Beat the Rebels.!!... ah... make that Mavs. (they were called Rebels then) Actually the legislature passed the school name change to "Texas A&M-Arlington" but it never took effect after protests by the the all-male version in College Station and the students in Arlington. Instead they created two UTs... El Paso and Arlington instead of an additonal UT and A&M as had been planned... It was done so they could dip into the University lands fund... the baby-boom was hitting and money was needed for expansion everywhere.... --- We had first been changed to UNT in 1961 by the Texas House of Representatives but the Texas Senate didn't agree with the House (too many UT grads) and it never went into effect and we became NTSU instead... from the NTSC name. It was possible to buy UNT window stickers in the mid 60's since someone jumped the gun and had some printed. A drug store [Wolf-Nue] across the street from campus on A street (now considered part of Fry) sold them.

Quotes From Okie State Board
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to PerryG2480's topic in Mean Green Basketball
---Basketball and football are in a completely different worlds...Football is played with a minimum of 22 players.... 11 each way plus a few subs and special team guys..... Basketball is basicly 5 people with a couple of subs rotating in and out. Basketball can turn a program around in as hurry with just two (2) really good players added.....football can't. Basketball also can get very good quality players from Junior Colleges (with lots of quality playing experience) and that doesn't happen much in football. I teach in a JC (Midland) and we have produced a lot of future NBA players...including Mookie Blaylock and Spud Webb... the other JC 30 miles away produced Larry Johnson who later was the best player at UNLV when they won the national championship...he played for several years in the NBA also. Improvement can happen in a hurry in basketball but also a severe drop-off as well. --- Football teams... I don't have an explanation for what has happened but rarely do they improve extremely rapidly... Obviously our offense is much better than before but the defense defies all-explanation on how bad it has become. Hopefully changes will be made and it will improve next year. -
--Students needs to show up... in big numbers. Alums will be a bit thin since it is a week-night game. The way get respect is earn it..... win or be competitive and have fans appear and be interested.....

---Osbourne was GREAT... at running up the scores on people..... he should win that vote.... I have loved the fact they they have taken a beating this year... not just losses... but awful scores........ Kansas was just getting a little revenge (and sending a message) for what the Huskers had done to them for years.

Embarrasment From The Media
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
---Koresh's followers had a choice, they could have walked away..... we really can't... we are alums of North Texas.... I can't walk away for who I am and claim to be a UT or whatever alum.. The only thing we can do is get rid of whoever is positions of power... patience..... this is only Dodge's first year... he will fix things...or be gone in 3-4 years... he knows that. Lots of new coaches don't do all that well their first year... Jimmy Johnson won one game during his transition year.. then in a short time won three Super Bowls... patience.. we may not be that successful but things will improve. ---He has fixed the one thing everyone complained about last year--- a dull offense --- he knows he has a problem and will work on the defense that has deteriorated to even a lower level that before he came.... expect changes.... TxTech has a similiar problem and fired the defensive co-ordinator during mid-season...(Dodge hasn't). He may not have any other good options or feels it is more a player problem... who knows. Tech too gives up too many points. -
----I teach at Midland College... My son who lives in Allen went to the football and basketball game and said he talked to the Midland College basketball team. MC was in the area at a tournament and were invited to attend. They are the defending national JC Champions. This was a great move on the part of the UNT coaches to make contact and show them the place and atmosphere. (wish it had been better) One UNT player (McCoy?) attended MC last year. A couple of them are now in my class and I plan to mention it to them tommorrow. One of my student is scoring double digits for MC. JC players in basketball can be very good, better than most HS kids since they will have had a lot of experience against very good competition. This is much more true of basketball than football. We have produced several NBA players here including Mookie Blaylock and Spud Webb. ---I suspect it did not hurt any to have a big name college team (Navy) playing football across the street when they visited.

---You are 100% correct... Basketball support has to come from the students, not alums.. They play a lot of games and most are on week-nights and alums are for the most part not close by.... many students are. ---I still fondly remember the MVC days (while I was a student) when Cincinnatti, Lousiville, and a lot of ranked teams were coming to town. Students get out of school what they put into it. In order to enjoy life people have get off the couch and butt and do something... Those type of things (games) can creat a lot of good memories. The "Snake Pit" (old Men's gym) was not a nice place to play but it was loads of fun and had a lot of meaningful, fun, games to look back and remember. My favorites are beating Cincinatti who had been the National Champ two years earlier and one against Wes Unseld and Lousiville. You never know which ones will be etched into your memory... you would never expected the Navy game this week to be a "record setter" or the FIU game last year to have so many overtimes. Just go and have fun... win or lose. --Too bad so many students don't have the same attitude that we did then... Go to games and have some fun.... they will remember many of them the rest of their lives...especially if a lot of people show up and it becomes as wild and crazy as it was then. ----I just hate people who sit around and complain that there is nothing to do... really.!!!.. just get up and find something to do... life will be more interesting. My kids often comment that I can come up with more goofy stories.... well the reason is... I get up and do things and go places... Sitting around and watching TV rarely creates interesting stories or great memories....well sometimes maybe ..like watch a later famous game but not otherwise. --For any students reading this... get out and enjoy life which includes a few basketaball games... some will be great some won't.. but at least you will have "something" to fondly look back on...Sometimes it will be the game, sometimes events that occur in stands or the goofy people that show up. Get out and enjoy life some..

--Plus we have now equaled the football team in wins and held the opponent to less points than the football team did across the street. I guess that qualifies as good news and bad news. ...good news for basketball and bad news for football.

First "real" Upset Only 3 Days Into The Season

Maybe.. If they don't lynch him first. -
---Seniors and experience juniors who represent the leadership usually do not accept being pushed aside for freshman and inexperienced sophomores very well especially when it is not that obvious that the younger one is a lot better... It is a recipe for disaster. The same applies in the workplace when some very young person is promoted over a very experienced person who may be in the same neighborhood of competency. ---This is likely an issue in team "unity" right now. I am no big Meager fan but he did throw for 600 yards against SMU and the new kid had not set the world on fire when he made appearances. The same has happened at other positions... Now a lot of the older players are just going through the motions and realize their football career is ending in frustration... I'll bet most of the older players would rather have Meager in the huddle over Vizza especially since he isn't getting the job done..
