Georgia President Proposes 8-team Football Playoff
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
--I repeat my suggestion : Eight team* playoff with no more than one conference with two representatives. The remaining teams can go to the various Holiday Bowls as a reward for a good (not great) season..... After all not many bowls now have the slightest effect on who the top 3-4 teams are in the final standings. What changes ...not much.... except 4 teams play one extra game and 2 play two extra games more than the usual one bowl game. The first round could occur before Christmas break and the final two afterwards. That should not interfere with finals exams at all. Even then the season would not take any longer than it takes now. (Jan 7, this year) It is crazy to have teams playing a game 6 weeks after they played their last game. Ohio State had not played since Nov. 17, LSU last one was Dec. 1. Location... let the two teams involved decide where to play much like Texas high schools or even like NFL does-- topseed is at home..... The final could be located at a specific place (like the Super Bowl) No doubt some would argue that they should be one of the eight but it is unlikely the best team would ever be left out. -
ALWAYS..???? Why didn't Notre Dame win more then... ??? also the Yankees have double the salary of most most teams and they haven't won any World Series in a while. More expensive does not mean better ( for anything*) but more people in the Highland Park and SMU area seem to think so. * especially when dating girls.... LOL (see bankrupted husbands)

Beats me... There --- their --- they're .... [ Where ---- ownership ---- they are ] ______________________ A high-dollar coach may produce a few more wins but not a top-20 ranking. Winning a lot is a more about great recruiting and a coaches ability to recruit. After that is done then coaching ability can bring in a few more wins. If we can solve our defensive woes then I think we do a lot better sooner. TD is better known in Texas and I suspect can recruit better.... at least for the next 2-3 years. SMU does have a schedule advantage... they play a lot more regional (Texas) teams so that may appeal to many recruits.

St. Louis (under Rick Majerus) Ties Modern Record;
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to SUMG's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Maybe they got confused and sent the girls team to play against Kentucky.... even then I would expect more than 6 points... I wonder if the six points were all free-throws?? Surely they had enough free throw chances to get 6. -

How Many Times Do Schedule The National Champion
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to KingDL1's topic in Mean Green Football
---Any team that would like to be the 2009 champion should schedule us as their opening game in 2010. I think it has worked three times plus --it is four times to get to the finals. (didn't OU lose one championship game to USC then play us the next year) . -
---Romney is the one big name that looks absolutely dead to me. The other candidates don't like him and not because he is leading..... plus considering the money he has spent and the energy he has poured into the campaign so far, he should being doing better. ---The Democrats ae down to three it appears and nothing has been decided at all... These are small states and not very urban either... and all northern... Hillary has her followers but at the same time there is a large group that strongly oppose her... I doubt she wins by the time it is all over. If so, then expect the GOP nominee to take her out. --Stebo... yes I did fire back in the other thread. I don't care for her but considering what we have she couldn't be worse. I wish McCain had beat him in 2000 but he didn't..(due to a lot of dirty tricks by Rowe and group, they now admit it and seem proud of it.) . now McCain is getting pretty old.... maybe too old. The same group of people (with a different name) tore into Kerry... who actually served in a war-zone and put his life at risk instead of some national guard unit that he didn't seem to attend much. Kerry and Gore were the only two from those Yale classes that went to Nam... they rest managed to stay home. Gore was in a relative safe positon but he was there ... not in Houston or Alabama campaigning for someone. ---I live in Midland...my house is 0.6 mile from where Bush lived after he was married. I have seen him several times but never really met him other than a polite hello. He once jogged by my house at times, usually with friends.

--Advice... listen to what people say.. and notice to what they have actually done..... Not to what others claim they say and what others they claim they have done. There is a big difference. I have heard several people say Obama went to a ?Medrasa? which is a Islamic terrorist school.. The truth was he in a private Catholic school in Indonesia where his father worked. I even got several emails from various people about this. All false. ----A lot of misleading statements are made as well ----such as Bush complaining about (several years ago) about congress not passing the homeland security act he wanted The reason most would not vote for it was an (unrelated) provision that exempted drug companies from lawsuits exceeded $100,000 even though the drug involved may have blinded or permantly disabled a person. Even the original sponser would not vote for his own bill once that had been added in committee. Often when a senator/congressman is "slammed" for not voting for a bill he may actually support most of it and even the part they he is being criticized about but not the crazy admendments that have been added. Meanwhile Limbough and group are going crazy on the radio about how stupid he/she is for not supporting a certain concept. Those who really don't read much think they know what is happening but don't have a clue. Anyone who listens to one sourse or network is a poorly informed person. ---If you listened to Nixon (and friends) only you would have thought he was a great guy.... he wasn't...but he may have been better than the current one who has gotten us into an unjustified war that is costing us American lives and money..... No other President is history has invaded a major foreign country without be first provoked... (9-11 had no connection to Iraq and none of them had ever lived in Iraq) Now no one really has a good solution or way out (either party or any candidate) without some Crazy Islamic group taking over as they did in Iran. Saddam was bad but the alternatives seem worse. Guess the current group never heard of Pandora's box or Humpty-Dumpty, some things just can't really be fixed. .... just let sleeping dogs lie, may not be a good answer but often better than awakening them.

Larry Mac Duff Will Be Nt's Next Dc
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to SouthBendGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
---Odd thought, this would be a coach with NFL coaching experience on a staff headed by a coach who was coaching in a Texas High school last year... Do you think this will work.??? If he got crossways with an experienced college coach with a National Championship, Mack Brown, how will this work?? ---Just wondering!! -
More June Jones Rumors Surface

I heard it also on ESPN radio. -
What a "sissy" schedule". !!! Only teams worth mentioning are Tech, OU and maybe SMU, The rest are much below what they would find in the Southland.

---As I said, todays youth really don't understand what was happening. I was one of those being "forced" as you called it. Not everyone felt as you seem to think they did. I was a bit different I suppose because the minorities where I lived were fairly small (less than 10% each). Many in my class understood things weren't as they should be because as we were graduating, the blacks in the class could not even attend our local college (Baptist). No court action forced our HS to integrate but instead the year after Brown vs. Topeka occured the local board took action... I think many of them had for years wanted to shut down the black school but could not due to pressure of "some" of the community. ---The problem then as it is now some that extremes existed on both sides and a few felt we owed them (as some do now)...as did a few on one side felt threatened by the other groups. It always seem funny to me that the most uneducated whites were/are the most predjudiced... guess they fear(ed) they would lose jobs and also realized that they would be heading for the bottom ranks of society. The somewhat educated middle and wealthy class rarely felt that way. My mom particularly set my attitudes and her family had raised cotton until the 1930's and had often hired minorities to help pick cotton.. She very much treated them as poeple who loved their kids and was just trying to make a decent living. ---"No doubt parts of the Deep South was a bit different where whites were actually in the minority".. They feared losing control of everything, local government, etc. to those who really were not educated enough to take charge of much. .

Big-XII looking pretty good... Missouri rips Arkansas a new one and TxTech pulls a last second upset with 19 players returning next year. (few seniors) . Okie state, Texas won earlier... Aggie and Colorado lost by one TD.

---Most "projects" need to go to a JC and get playing time and learn how to play against some quality competition.... then go to a D-I college...if they are good enough.. Most of these prep school guys are not competing with very good competition either and look better than what they really are... We have one of them at MC who looked great at a private HS but rarely sees the court at the JC level.

This should moved to the non-UNT sport section.. not in the football one....and not locked. ---The "whites" do not have a monopoly on racism.. I also get tired of those who yell "race" when things don't go their way. The blacks once had a big complaint (when I was in HS and college they were not allowed to go to many of the colleges in Texas (my HS was integrated), it wasn't right.. The youth of today do not really understand what racism was like in the 50's and 60's. "Most of the time" people should just shut up and accept that they just don't always get their way and sometimes people are not treated fairly.... and race often is not an issue at all. ---I hear a lot of non-whites discuss race a lot more that those who are whites.... and often what they are saying is not making much sense. A lot of the problems some have now are more about economic and educational levels, not race. I was talking with a minority young man before class this fall and he was shocked at some of the jobs I had trying in college to make money for an education.... I guess he thought I (and many other like me) was born with money and never had to work to achieve what success I have (college instructor). I lived for several years in a house without electricity (rural Texas).

---Go for the GOLD...win them all ...... that could give us a top 25 rating, and if not at least votes, and maybe a berth even if he messed up in the tournament.. This start the "real" season but the non-conference games gives everyone a way to compare conferences... We did pretty well this year. Our Texas "brothers" in the Southland have done ok as well. It can help us by getting attention for the region..

Personally it seems a bit early to getting dates to games.... (unless you are reallllly desparate.. LOL)

---The SWC voted whether to admit NTSU (then the name) to the SWC during the late 1970's. The Pac-8 had just become the Pac-10 and the NCAA was going to a 11 game season. NTSU received 6 yes votes and 3 no votes. and needed 7 yes votes to be admitted. SMU, TCU and Baylor all voted no. SMU was the most vocal about their opposition. Granted they were not the only no vote but a yes vote by them would have allowed North Texas into the conference. The three that voted against us were the three closest ones and also were the religiously supported private schools. The opinion was that they did not want competion from a state supported school in their area. The fact that Fry was their ex-coach figured into their decision as well so some said. ---I guess that disputes that SMU ever kept us out of a conference. I can't locate it on the internet but of course there was no internet then to create pages about this "transaction', but it happened. The writing was on the wall... NT was not going to get into the SWC and we were snubbed by the bowls despite our record and even against teams that were selected.... so Fry left for greener pastures and more money, Iowa, of the Big-10. ---SMU officials have regularly made insulting statements reguarding NT.... some you might not notice unless you think about it a little but we have noticed. Several have been about they have the best or only program in the area when in reality North Texas has a highly recognized and well known one and perhaps one that has been established a long time. One of the latest ones I remember was SMU establishing one (can't remember which one) and claiming they had the only program in the area...despite the fact NT has had it for years.... Some I remember involved the arts (especially music) and another was about computer science. ....too bad there is no death penalty for false statements made to the media---
-
--Money wise and fan-wise it makes absolute sense. It creates a lot of fan interest on both sides, gets local media attenttion, and helps the attendence and the pocketbook. At the moment it is not a body-bag game they either expects to take a beating in order to earn a few bucks. ---There should be some basketball games as well....it would be a good one prior to Christmas (and finals exam week) that would not require much travel time and keep the athletes near the campus. ---I see "Texas Monthly" has named Fran as --- "The Bum Steer of the Year". I doubt that helped his appeal any.

Most students are gone and lots of Holiday activities going on.... Not bad considering what we normally pull in with students on campus.... which is not all that great.

---I am about to pass out... you said something that I agree 100% about. After having worked in public schools I can tell you that is absolutely the truth. I grew up in a world (50's and early 60"s) in which almost no "bad" language language occured on TV or in the movies.... and we would not dare talk like the kids today... even the good ones. Look at what they now wear... much of it is patterned after what they see on TV and in the movies (and their parents buy it) ...... as is their conduct. They see wise-cracking foul month kids on TV and many think it is acceptable.... after all the "whoever" does it. Much as changed also after 1980. At that point having cable TV with dozens of channels became popular and 24-hour "news networks" appeared so they kids know what more about what is going on in the world. Oftentime now these programs picture the parent's especially the father as a goofy joke.... and completely powerless to do anything..not good. ---It is not just the entertainment programs that are at fault. The news stories (on all networks) don't have to put as much of the graphic or disgusting details into stories that they put in. In fact some really aare not worthy of being covered but are there to inflate ratings. I am not just talking about violence here. The Spears situation(s) would not be on TV every 30 minutes then, now it is difficult for kids to not hear it..... Some kids will take that a warning of what can happen and some kids will see that as "Well she did it" so it must be ok. ---Part II... I have no answer for the problems that now exist other than each individual parent needs to do a better job..... and learn to say no when need and be parents instead of buddies and not be afraid of being disliked a little. They will get over it and respect you later (sometimes years later) for doing what was right... mine did. One ovservation that I and a whole lot others have made (in education especially) is tht the two type of kids that have th most problem later are (1) those who let kids just do as they wish and (2) the parents that are far too controling so that when the kid gets to be older he doesn' know how to make decisions and assume responsibility. Those often just go nuts their first year away from home.

Fau Has Bought About 700 Tickets For The No Bowl

ok..... Which conference is wanting us... Being in no conference is much bigger problem. -
--What system.....Allow 45 points but score 49 points. The problem comes in when you don't score the 49..
