Cosmic..!!! . Maybe you have hit on something... perhaps those UFOs with the little GREEN men around Stephenville are responsible somehow!

---Too often people with "easy" answers don't think about the other consequences of what they are really saying.. The use of ethanol "might slightly" impact oil prices and "reduce slightly" pollution but the real problem is the rise in cost of agricultural products.... food (both grain, some vegetables, and meat for us), beer, even clothing (cotton etc.). Sort of cutting of your nose to spite your face if farmers raise crops to produce ethanol instead of for human and animal food or even for clothing. --There are a lot of non-thinkers in this world that don't consider what else is affected.... in mathematics there is a "thing" called a technology matrix that exists, I am sure most have never heard of it. While we are at it I'll kick in differential equations also, where one variable changes and the other variables change as well.

--I doubt that it will take that long.. I remember driving down LBJ (620) and having car trouble in 1971 (turned out simple, alternator belt loose) and there was no house or structures even close. About ten years later it was in town. That location is now close to where the Galleria is (maybe a bit east). Even the E-35 had a lot of "green" in the early 70's.

What's Up With The L S U Opener ?

--If someone wanted LSU on TV bad enough I would think the cash from the buyout and the cash for the "new" game could be the same or better. -
What's Up With The L S U Opener ?

--Maybe LSU got a better offer or that a TV network is wanting to broadcast them in a bigger game to open the season... Perhaps we can get a "payout" and schedule someone that we actually have a chance doing decent against. It seems that there are several BCS schools still looking for an opponent to fill their schedule. Maybe there is pressure from somewhere for LSU to play one of them and we will get one of the others or the opponent that the new guy would have played. ---It wouldn't hurt my feelings any if they did and we managed to collect some cash besides. -
---I would like to see some type of Senior Award given to a player not receiving one of the other awards in recognition for his "service to the team" for his entire college career. There are often players that contributed greatly but never were the superstar in their area They gave four good years, and were good role models for the younger players. I don't have a Title for it other than "Senior" award. It should go to a player that stayed out of trouble, had decent grades, and the respect of his teammates, good effort, perhaps a leader somewhat, and that his playing ability becomes somewhat secondary but not completely ignored. I not sure this would be a great choice but Beasly Reece who walked on for Hayden Fry, started a few years, wasn't drafted by the NFL, but then played for more than ten years in the NFL including the Cowboys and mostly the Giants, and now does or did work as a national TV announcer seems to be a good name for the award. There may be better names but this is the first I could come up with. I knew him slightly during the 70's, my wife had a class with him and he always seems like a nice hard-working guy. He was never a super star but was successful at what he did. In short this is the type of kid (player) that college athletics should about..

New Mascot Choices For Arkansas State
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
I vote: "Red Engines" ...LOL -
---Absolutely agree... one situation I was in was bad as well... My older son had a baseball coach that thought he was the next "Lombarde"... the guy was nuts and treated kids awful... He was banned from coaching the next year and before that year was over he was even banned from even attending games. He could watch from his car. Unfortunately some of these nutty parents want to coach. He had coached at the HS level a while... I think they fired him, probably same reason... I don't think he could keep any job he had, at anything...he left town after 4-5 years... I doubt anyone would hire him anymore.
-
---Funny but sad.... Some parents want to live their life through their kid.... The pushy parents of some who think their kids are "super-star" athletes and the women who put their little girls in all the nutty "beauty" pagents. Once stayed in a hotel that one of these pagents was taking place.. I felt sorry for those poor kids. It was pretty obvious that most would rather be doing something else. ---I also get tickled at these parents who spend a fortune on athletic camps so their kid can be in a postion to be a pro or get college schlorships... [i have heard a lot of state exactly that, most don't] There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing it for fun and hoping to get lucky but not with the expection of getting a BIG payoff. The money could be better spent on a better education instead. There are a lot more doctors, lawyers, engineers, businessmen than pro athletes and they will make more money (lifetime) than the most of the few athletes do.

---I don't get trashing other colleges without reason, trashing them just to trash them is nuts... [looks like envy or a acting like a SMU grad]... it looks bad. I live in Midland which is not that scenic either and my kids live in Dallas....but don't expect to see me living in Dallas any time soon. No doubt as a young party animal, Dallas is much better but as a mature family person ... get me out of there, I can visit besides there is a lot to do in area of 250,000 -- Lubbock or Midland/Odessa. I did go to TxTech one year as a graduate student and really liked North Texas a lot more in many ways including campus and profs., .. plus February/March in Lubbock is awful (dust storms etc. ). Sports wise they have a good atmosphere and have a fairly good record of winning in a tough conference even with a tough recruiting situation. They are a long way from the large population cities of Texas and most college students and singles prefer an area with more "night life". I don't want to live in Lubbock either but I wish our sports sitution was as good as theirs is. The football system comment is dumb... we would love to win as much as they do against teams that are often ranked, besides what we (Dodge and staff) are now trying to do is not that much different than what Tech does. ---SMU.... trash them all you want...they deserve it with all the respect they have shown us through the years. I sure don't want to be like them... a school that has no respect for anyone else. ---Considering long-time records especially those over 50 years ago is crazy... most of those people are long gone and much has changed. For example most of our SMU losses were prior to WWII when we were a very different place. Beside everything changed greatly in the mid/late 50's... TV and jet travel appeared so that schools did not play as many nearby schools. Things drasticly changed again in the 80's when more cable TV and communication satelites appeared so that we had more that 1-2 games on TV each week ..which was the case until then. If those old game are meaningful then Fordham and Holy Cross should still be considered football powers.

---Good player does not mean good coach.... Most great coaches were not that great as players either. Totally different. A few are but usually they are very smart people,, I don't consider Irvin all that intelligent. Also, he has too much baggage with his past behavior to be coaching at the college level.

If Its Not One Thing On Yahoo Its Another...
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to MeanGreenBuzz's topic in Mean Green Basketball
We were probably NTSU when the author was in college... old habits die hard. When I hear Colts I often still think Baltimore. When the SMU guys do it that do it in a mean spirited way... not likely this guy. --Maybe we should not be so harsh on them... they even changed it... no NTSU now. -
This is one point that people have forgotten (or never knew if they are rather young) -- Football players 30-40-50 years ago were nowhere near the size they are today..... at least weight-wise. My AAAA high school won state in football in 1960 with only one starter over 180 pounds. He went to A&M as a tackle and played as a sophomore. Granted we were bit small but even then, but there were not many 200 lb. HS players then and even then they were usually fat bubbas and usually not all that good. Almost no one lifted weights then. A lot of the stronger ones we had were the result of summer jobs at a rock crusher or brick yard or in one case his parents owned a dairy and he constantly handled weight while working. Same subject.. different twist..... It is intersting to look at old photos of people (especially group photos) and some of the people we considered "fat" now look rather normal and would not stand out much. ... The world has changed. _____ This kind of behavior by the VP is why we are in the situation we are now. These type guys caused the over-reaction we have now where kids can't be "touched" and even suspension is difficult because of the students "rights".... and their "right" to destroy the learning environment for those what would do well if those guys who are thugs or don't care to learn anything weren't in the building. The largest difference in most HS and colleges is that classes are filled with who want to learn or at least know they need to learn ... and those who don't want to be there.... aren't ... at least not very long.. I have taught both places..

I Need Tech Help!
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to DeepGreen's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Perhaps the aliens on the UFO's at Dublin are trying to gain access to your computer files.... Be careful... LOL.. -
I don't think I can give you one. If you have a yahoo Id then you should be able to see it when signed in.. On the yahoo football and basketball pages (when I am signed in Yahoo ) it shows my favorite teams that I have listed and NT is one of the two I have listed, (Tech is my wife's college). That does show the current "flying Eagle". When clicking on the North Texas page then it displays only the older symbol. Actually they also show up on the "Yahoo general Sports page" as well. I have NT listed as a favorite on the team tracker section. If you have not done that, it will show the last score and next game in whatever sport for whatever teams you list.
-
On the team page, mine show the same... but on the basketball and football page on NCAA sports it has changed.

Hey Tony

How many years did Elway play before he won a Super Bowl.?? How about Dan Marino. how many years...? There were a lot of things that went wrong today.... starting with the Toomer TD in first few min... and that gave them the margin of victory... A whole lot of players could have won this by eliminating ONE mistake they made. The QB gets far too much credit and too much blame.. The entire team has looked rather poor since Thanksgiving...Three losses and two wins... by one point over Detroit and 7 points over weak Carolina. -
Hours Needed For Football Shocks Ncaa
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
The situation is likely worse for basketball players...... they often play two or three games in a week.......and compounding the problem.... they play/practice during Christmas break and there season is spread out over two semesters. At least football players can really work hard at academic work during their spring semester and don't have games on class days. -
Agree.... and sometimes they aren't even the best team... just the best team that day. Every NFL super Bowl winner since 1972 has lost at least game and most have lost several. I really doubt tht their coach should have been fired when they lost that/those games. Somedays you just aren't going to win... None of us do our best every day... even if we are trying to be.

Georgia President Proposes 8-team Football Playoff
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
----Having an eight team playoff would leave a lot of good (not great) teams to fill the holiday bowls. This is the big stumbling block, money and tradition from these bowls and the efforts that these chamber of commerces have put into these. If this happens I would never expect more than a 12 teams playoff but 8 seems like the likely number to me. No one past #12 would have a reasonable prayer of winning it all anyway or really deserve to win because of their number of losses (possible exception would be a good team from a mid-major that is greatly underestimated, but I even doubt that). -
There is always the option of two home games, two at SMU and two at Safeway....!!
