---I have an odd question..... Doesn't the NFL black out local games that are not sell outs??.... ---If that is the case once the new stadium opens there will have to be alot more people attending in order to fill this new one up. ---Doesn't this mean that there are likely going to be a lot of Cowboy games blacked out in the metroplex??? ---Just thinking... and asking...it will not effect me, I am in the middle of West Texas... Also the new taxes the Arlington citizens are paying doesn't effect me either.. I fact I own one of the bonds issued to build it. So I guess I can claim I own part of the stadium (a very small part). Thanks Arlington.

Fwst: What Recruits See From Six Texas Schools
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Objective Aggie's topic in Mean Green Football
---I am not so sure a few pictures from anywhere give much of a true picture of what the "environment" is at any school. A picture of the dorm, the stadium and perhaps a picture of locker-room/workout area and the practice fields might be helpful but not much. Sort of like the story of the blind men describing the elephant. ---Some have trashed TxTech somewhat unfairly ... It is a nice campus and can be pretty other than winter and early spring (unfortunately most of the school year is then). My complaint of there is that the buildings are so scattered that students has difficulty going from one class to the next because of distance between classes. I was a student there for one graduate year, the campus was designed by an idiot for classrooms unless one had all their classes in one building which freshman and sophomores never do. Plus that "travel" can be terribly cold or hot or wet or dirty depending on the weather. NT and UT is rather compact by comparison and A&M is not too bad. Tech in short can look good at times but is poorly designed. A lot of athletes look at the situation differently than most of us. Tech, UT, and the Aggies have nice large stadiums and do attract large crowds.... we don't. Some of them look at the academics and departments they will major in but some don't care at all. Unfortunately some people actually judge a school by its athletic program and nothing else...even non athletes. My son when transferring to NT said the NT computer labs (about 2000) were far superior to anything that A&M had for use at that time.... better and more modern equipment, he was a comp-sci major. Some will look at the surrounding area and location... we have Dallas, Tech has dirt fields, at A&M you get to sweat a lot in warm weather, very humid. As for location... Austin wins,. nice town, plus lots to do, and a lot of fan interest in sports and school spirit and you don't die of heat exhaustion or freeze crossing campus like you do in Lubbock. ---In short, a few pictures mean very little. I really loved NT, the classes, the profs, the students, and the area, just wish athletics was more successful... even when I was student basketball was a big deal in the MVC.. now it has declined a lot. Basketball games were wild and crazy with lots of nutty fans. -
---Who did you think put it on the ballot up for a vote??? The City Council does. then the voters approve or disapprove of it. Somehow they "sold" it to the voters that it was a great deal for them and they approved it. This is why voters need to read, listen asnd become informed. ---On the presidental scene we have candidates that want to abolish the IRS.... Sounds great ..right.?? Just how are we going to finance our government operations, military and other things. Some want a national sales tax. This really put the tax burden on those who spend every cent they make because prices will greatly increase with the tax added..... meanwhile those who make "millions every year and do not spend all their income will suddenly have a fortune of earning that is completely untouched by taxation. Who benefits out of this deal..?? The poor and middle class gets hit hard and those who make millions per year escape with less tax because a lot of what they earn is completely tax free. ie. the rich get richer and the poor and middle class can afford even less. Think about what you read and vote accordingly... maybe that is what you want... I don't. ---On another level since those who spend everything they earn are paying more for things--- they will be forced to purchase less and that hurts the economy even more. We went to college for several reasons--- to get informed, to learn to think, and to learn skills to earn a living. The latest budget suggested by the president is $3.1 Trillion.... that is about $10,000 per year for every man woman and child... and will increase the national debt even worse that it is. Do you seriously think the government can collect that kind of money from sales tax???? --Think-- True there was no IRS during the 1800's.. and no paved roads, poor hospitals, not much public education, few colleges, a very small military (invasion was next to impossible from anyone because of the slowness fo travel) plus very little government services such as food inspection or a center for disease control... We could do that again if you want to live in a third world country. .

I am beginning to think my math degree is worthless.... We add a two-star ( 2.0) to a 2.23 average and it increases our average to 2.31.???? I am confused. -

2008 Schedule Done, Spring Dates
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to flyeater's topic in Mean Green Football
8-30 K-State 9-06 Tulsa ---home 6-13 LSU 9-20 Bye 9-27 Rice Then conference play starting with FIU at home on October 4. That give us TWO home games in the first FIVE games (six weeks). -
---Back to E.Smith quote again.... offense puts butts in seats. This was not a offensive game ... NY played a hell of a defensive game, . I disagree they were the worst to ever win. They did lose six games----but: two to 13-3 Dallas, one to 13-3 Green Bay, both received NFC byes and were the first NY two games of the season. One to NE (by 3) who was undefeated in regular season, one to Washington (who made the playoffs also), and then there was one unexpected poor loss to Minnesota. ---The Giants won eleven (11) consecutive road games and the final three teams they played in the playoffs... Dallas, Green Bay and New England --- had a combined record of 45-6 prior to playing the Giants. All three of them were revenge games by the Giants for 4 of their 6 losses. They were on the road every one of those and were never favored to win..... but they did. Give them credit. This was not a blooper bowl game of NE mistakes... they took it to them, sacked him 5 times and put Brady on the ground a whole lot of times besides the sacks. Brady had been sacked only 21 times during the 16 game regular season. They are far from the worst team to ever won. The game was a good one... just not the offensive one that we have gotten used to seeing from NE, the Colts, and the Rams. To many of today's fans often think defense is boring.... a lot of points does not mean great game...and only a few points does not mean poor game. ineptness and dumb turnovers and dumb penalities do. NT scored a lot of points (6 games 27 or more) ... and won TWO games... not a good season. NY defeated every NFC divison champion except Seattle which they did not play plus they defeated the 18-0 AFC Champion New England which had won 3 of the previous 5 Super Bowls.... That looks fairly convincing to me that they are not the worst to ever win a Super Bowl. . .

Ced Benson played minor league baseball in the summers and UT football in the fall... He gave up baseball before his senior year. -
---This makes the Dallas loss to the Giants by 4 points a bit better to accept... They just defeated a team with a 18 game winning streak. ---I loved E.Smith comment about the game.... "Defense wins championships, offense puts butts in the seats." The Giant defense was amazing as it was against Dallas also. Brady laughing about the Plexico prediction of holding NE to 17 looks funny now.... LOL ... They only scored 14 and Brady was getting clobbered all day....... As ESPN (Shawn Stansbury) said, a great QB will look very ordinary when facing that kind of pressure. ..... ---the Eli to Tyree pass we will see for a long time on NFL films and other places. .. It was amazing on both ends..... Eli should have never escaped the NE defense and then got the pass off and on the other end Tyree catch was absolutely amazing. Often one end of a pass play is amazing but rarely both.

Cusa Making Overtures To South Alabama ?
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
---The real problem with those four years was that we rarely won a non-conference game and a lot of non-coference losses were blowouts,.. and not many of our conference teams were winning against non-conf. teams either. Most are doing better now. The bad part about those non-conf. losses were the awful scores indicated we would have a rough time in other conferences. . Part two... football is not everything... we need to do well in basketball also... We did well last year but that is the only year that we have excelled since being in the Belt. We need to get better in both before we have reasonable expectations of moving. Better attendence would help tooo. -
---I doubt that we are talking about normal necessary movement. One comment seem to indicate people had even ducked under a camera to get where-ever they wanted to go.. I vote with him... keep the movement to a minimum when on the air. He and Dan Patrick are two of my favorites. They take sports semi-seriously but realize it should be fun also. I was sad to see Dan Patrick not on ESPN radio anymore.. His replacement is awful.

NO --- a lot of minor sports have NO fan interest and just cost money that could be better used in other sports or academics. Besides Baseball (or softball) and Soccer has more interest and a lot of people post-college do play these sports and have some interest. These should be considered long before wrestling.

Cusa Making Overtures To South Alabama ?
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
---At this point I am not worrying much about any other conference... We need to prove we can win in THIS conference. We haven't scared a lot of people the past three years. If we are TOO GOOD for the SunBelt then we should be dominating it in several sports. Going to another conference and being a bottom feeder is not what I want either. -
--- This is why everyone should vote... The people we elect and in this case it must have been the City Council and perhaps a bond election (I don't live in Arlington) created this situation. Dallas did not think they could afford this stadium but smaller Arlington thought they could. --- Some one earlier commented that politics doesn't matter and implied people who mentioned political issuses were fools. ... really... elected officials are the ones that set the taxes and make many decisions that effect our lives..... and if you have a job based on tax money... such teachers and city personel such as police and firemen... political issues and who is elected matter a great deal. Suggest that everyone read, listen, and then vote.

In the first one... the police probably did the right thing to start with but they did not even check his pickup out for 3-4 days after having a description of the "crime scene" It would have shown her story was very questionable. .. The Newpaper had him convicted and splashed it all over the newpaper on page one. The other two were total mess-ups by the officer. -

---Don't know about this one but a friend of mine was thrown in jail and his picture all over the front page of the local paper as raping a student late one night. ... He didn't, he was home at the time with his family. I think she claimed he had offerd her a ride home which was not not true at all. The girl needed someone to blame when she got caught coming in late and had been " sexually active" and he was it. She later admitted she made it all up plus after checking they found her description of his pickup did not fit the interior of his.... wrong type of seats and some other things.. ---Part II: A policeman once shot at me (actually over my head) thinking I was a burglar.... I was a night employee (also college student) that they did not know about and assumed that I did not belong there. They handcuffed me, put me in back-seat of the police car, and was driving off and carrying me to jail when they spotted another employee showing up for work and waiting at the front door for me to let them in. In today's world they would have fired him ... not much happened then (late 60's).. ---Part III: A friend of mine was driving a white Chevrolet Impala on I-20 when he was passed by another "white Chevrolet Impala, same year and model" going a very excessive speed. A highway patrolman had flipped around and was giving chase..... and then arrested my friend thinking that he was the one that had been speeding and had slowed down. He had to go to court and somehow managed to convince the judge that he wasn't the right guy. ---Those situations have really given me as new perspective on those that get arrested.. they may not really be guilty, and the situation may be odd or the policeman just nuts and wanting to arrest someone. -
--YOU MIGHT BE AN AGGIE!!.... LOL .... either that or you haven't lived in Texas very long...... Texans (and others) constantly make fun of them... At one time they really were all that strange... all male, all military, and they had a lot of really "bizzare" traditions and their conduct and thinking in general was not exactly typical --In case you are an Aggie--- the point is that ONLY an Aggie would constantly erase the number and change it to keep up with the time....LOL.... I also noticed that on your profile that you don't know your age or when your birthday is (it states "unknown")...... hmmmmm...... maybe you really are an Aggie!!!. LOL

1988 North Texas Vs. Texas Game Program
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
--I listened to it on Radio ( UT version) and remember even then a lot of calls being questionable, even their radio version seemed surprised at the results at times. I have watched the video since and it has to be the worse officiated game I have ever known about. Refs do make "errors" but that many really makes you wonder about the "honesty" of the situation. Program: I actually bought one a couple of years ago (I knew that it was the awful game) at a flea market in Dublin It was mint shape and I remember $2.00 (absolutely no more), which is a lot cheaper than the E-Bay one... -
---He likely will do fine in HS, that is where is has spent most of his time... The college game is a lot different with faster, larger, and more talented players and he appeared to be in over his head. Good luck to him, I am sure he was trying to help us succeed, it just did not work out very well.

Note the phone numbers in the advertisements... one is 130 and another is 88. The world has changed... Russells Dept. Store and Taliaferro Radio were stil in business when I was a student during the mid 60's. (I am old) -
---I am stating something that no politician or the government dares to state publicly. I think one reason we don't drill more in the USA and that we now import so much oil is the future and what could happen. Once we "use up" our supply of oil, you don't want to think what the Arabic and other countries could do to us and what they could charge. It seems better to use their oil while it is still fairly cheap and to save our own until the future demands it. Also once the world oil situation gets critical (not in our lifetime) there is a fairly decent supply in Canada and the Artic in "shale oil". It is more expensive to produce (more than drilling) but it does exist and in large amounts. T.Boone Pickens is already into that sector. ----Besides at the moment oil production in the Middle East is cheap compared to American production. Remember those Iraq oil-field fires in the Gulf war?? It did not have to be pumped even... it just flows out of the ground and is capped by a "Christmas Tree" to control the flow.... rarely does that happen here in the USA. ----Once China and India become much more modern (and they are) the price of oil will continue to increase on the world market. Oil is a worldwide commodity that everyone will need and it will get more expensive. Bet on it. ---Ethanol is really dumb despite what Bush et. al. say. If they really wanted to clean up this world then use more solar power, more wind power, and perhaps even nuclear power... just figure out a way to get rid of the waste safely. Don't be surprised if in your lifetime that small wind generaters become commonplace and even at many private homes. The world will change.. Remember my parent's generation (born shortly after 1900) was born into a world of no cars, no airplanes, no commercial radio or TV and little electricty use. I am less than 65 and the atomic bomb did not exist, no commercial TV, most radio stations were less than 10 years old, jets did not exist, computers were science fiction, and even plastic was fairly new and rare when I was born. Even pocket calculators did not exist when I was in college nor did they exist when we went to the moon . Get used to change..... the world you were born into is not the world that will exist when you die. --You may want to check out the final minutes of the movie: "Three Days of the Condor" (1975)
