---Rick and I are saying the same things. GET BUTTS INTO SEATS and make the media look like we are interested and that the area is interested in North Texas as well.. ---If they left off the UT and Aggie highlights they would be swamped with calls... leave us off and there will be little outrage and maybe no calls or emails. Those can be effective as well if there are a lot of them. One of my favorite quotes is: "Ask for nothing and that is exactly what you will get..nothing".. ---Basketball crowds need to be made up largely of student-fans because alot of the games are mid-week games and people who are far away cannot and will not go very much (unless they very rabid). The current attendence by students is awful compared to what they what it once was. I understand we did not have a zillion TV stations to watch then .... but attending sporting events is part of what make college fun and creates memories. Ask any UT grad.

---Unfortunately the lack of good coverage is a lot about fan interest.... Did we fill the pit tonight????? If not-- it appears to the media that there is very little interest in it even by the local UNT fans... so it gets poor coverage. .... sorry about that. We got better coverage years ago when we filled the stands and were in the MVC. ---If we want better coverage for sports we must show more interest from within and fill the stands. Tech, UT and Aggies do. [not something most want to hear, but true ]

Tournament Bracket...
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to SCREAMING EAGLE-66's topic in Mean Green Basketball
---I notice that the high scorer for North Texas against Arkansas State was McCoy.... from Midland College (defending National Junior College Champion) which is about 1/2 mile from my house and where I work. Tommorrow they play Collin County in the first round of JC tournament play. -
http://www.sunbeltsports.org//pdf1/113836.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=4100 LLU has been upset... the rest is as expected on first round.

---Soccer does not have one standard size... just as baseball fields don't either. There are guidelines and the maximum is 100 yds by 150 yds. (15,000 sq yards). A football field is 120 yards (includes endzones) by 53.33 yards which is 6400 sq yards. The original post can be pretty much correct on size.. your comment is wrong on that. However I have no idea where he gets the 30 yard comment... Canadian football??? He measurement are wacko... it is sqaure yards not feet and they are even wrong. A football field is 160 feet wide or 53.33 yards. ---I have played soccer and it a fun game to play and great exercise, but as a spectator sport... nothing is close to good old American football. -
---True, I think you right ... Most South Alabama fans will be pulling for us to eliminate WKU since WKU has a better record, plus they probably want to play us again and get revenge since we defeated them in Denton. I am sure they think they have a better team than we have since they are 25-5 and 16-2 in conference play. ---Before this all happens , we need to win "get our head on straight" and win this Wednesday over Arky State. -- Remember we weren't suppose to win last. year.... but we did.. The favored team doesn't always win. --GO Green.

--Good thing you weren't a student in mid 60's you have been gone and visiting the rice paddies of Viet-Nam a few weeks later. You had to pass a minimum 5 hours and have "so many grade points (9?) " or you could not re-enroll the next semester (skipped right over scholastic probation). The baby boom was hitting and they did not mind getting rid of folks because the classroom and housing situations were getting very crowded... We were all draft bait for several years and had to do decent or Uncle Sam would be giving us a call. After my first semester at UNT there were a lot of freshman leaving, they didn't believe profs would actually flunk them... they learned it the hard way. Finals were in January then and several came back to re-enroll the week after finals and after they picked up their grades they then went to their dorms and emptied their rooms instead.. There were three boxes on the bottom of grades sheets. 1. eligible to re-enroll... .2- eligible to re-enroll but on probation...... and the dreaded 3rd box --- ineligible to re-enroll ....... ie. Good Morning Viet-Nam! Colleges contacted the draft boards and stated they were no longer enrolled as students. Having the draft in effect made a lot of guys better students....and kept them in college.

Other Uses For A New Football Stadium?

I have a small collection of those Alum stickers... didn't change cars every year. Almost certain they are from the 70's. The other one is very old...I have never seen it.

Now It's Official... Quinn Is A Packer
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to jperg2's topic in Mean Green Football
--I believe some thanks for this goes (accidentally) to Wes Welker... He was the leading receiver in the NFL last year ( number of catches) and he is not big guy but has excellent hands. I expect Green Bay thinks Quinn can be used much the same way, a slot receiver, with a lot of short passes and first downs to his credit. Favre this year shortened his game somewhat with more shorter passes and it worked well. Good luck, may he do very well. -
How We Want The Season To Finish
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Censored by Laurie's topic in Mean Green Basketball
How I hope it ends--- 1. Win some Sun Belt tournament games. 2. Win the Sunbelt tournament. 3. Make the NCAA tournament if not, the NIT 4. Lose no tounament games... ie. National champion or NIT champion.. Some of those are unlikely but we need to try. ***and last... get a lot of fans to the games....especially students... they are our future alums and need to be involved and proud of NT. -

SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to chrisfisher's topic in Mean Green Basketball
note bold underlined part.... We (UNT) need to do better in attendence, they did when a member of MVC in the 60's and 70's. Tonight I just watched Midland College (community college) tonight at home, over 2000 fans, college has only about 6000 students, not 33,000. -
Ncaa '08 Proposed Football Rule Changes
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to LAZER's topic in Mean Green Football
--I agree it is a good rule... but I think the other guy is wrong about Jersey grabbingin the NFL... I think that is acceptable in the NFL. In the cases where only the jersey is held the player has enough freedom of motion to usually twist about some and is not so easily injured...unlike when the pads are held. I am not so sure he can always wrap them up but some things just should not be done. The game is dangerous enough as it is. -
Ncaa '08 Proposed Football Rule Changes
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to LAZER's topic in Mean Green Football
---Games have gotten a lot longer.... this is happening because so many teams have gone to emphasizing a passing offense.... where the clock stops at incompletions, and when running out of bounds which happens a lot on passing plays.. TxTech games are often over 4 hours now, especially when facing a team that also passes a lot. The clock stoppage due to passing also adds a lot of plays to a game as well and makes the scores get higher because of the extra time. It partially explains my Tech scores are so high and Dodge ones as well. The 40 second rule should shorten the game some. The DD type of offense when facing teams of similiar mind-set were well under 3 hours.....Sounds good to me -
---I know I am old (64) but I have never really understood really crude or obscene language....especially the bedroom and bathroom terms. It seems worse when written or posted. I know junior high kids do it because they "think" it makes them look or sound more adult-like but at the age most of us are on this board... I really don't get it. It usually makes people look less educated, less mature, and more insecure. ...and no, I am far from a Bible-thumper...I am not above using damn or hell for emphasis. I just think we should display some class and respect each other. It seems that a college degree would somewhat separate us from the population as a whole. All of us may need/want to behave age 12 at times -- [ Six-Flags for example ] but posting crude language here this isn't one of them.

---I have no idea whether Clements used "chemicals" or not. I just know that the case they have against him is rather questionable.. the main witness against him has no credibility and has lied on many occasions as he admitted.. so now we are to believe he is telling the truth? Once he is caught lying on some things, how can you believe anything he says. [ what I told my kids as they grew up ] ---MLB is largely at fault anyway. For years there was no rules against it the use of steroids or HGH. How can anyone be convicted for use when it was not illegal then. They seem to being going after people who just weren't being honest, not actually the use. it did no doubt effect the game SOME especially among batters who were dropping fly balls a few feet short of the "fence".... these now became home-runs. For those who weren't getting close it did nothing to help them. It does not help them field or catch the ball better nor does it help them make contact with the ball either as batters. As for pitching, it does not make them throw a better curve-ball or make better decisions. I even doubt that most can even throw much harder.... after all Randy Johnson, or even Nolan Ryan are/were fastball pitchers and they were not all that large or unusually strong...in fact throwng fastballs are more about quickness than strength. What use did do was allow them to recover from injury faster. In the case of Pettite, he has gone through several injuries and his using it to heal up (not to gain a competive advantage) doesn't seem to be a big problem to me. It can be used as a medicine just as many other things can. ---I DO NOT support its use but I do see selective use for injured players to heal quicker, but not to gain a competive edge. That would involve very short-term use. These are not drugs that have no medical benefit or purpose. Football again is quite different ... for most positions strength means a lot, not so much in baseball except getting those few extra feet to get the ball over the fence for those who often get close. If excellent physical condition is the key to success in baseball then how did Babe Ruth and Micky Mantle and some others do as well as they did... They were is awful shape usually and abused their bodies as well. ---Belicheat is far worse... he absolutely was trying to gain an illegal edge by filming, and IT WAS AGAINST THE RULES.. The steroids are now but weren't in the beginning. ---I also agree, Congress has a more lot important things to do... Looks as if they want "air time" to show the folks back home they are working. ( prima-donas? ) .

Here's A Poser For Ya - Who Is This Former Player ?
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
--Where is he now.. and what is he doing? He was a great player for us and the NFL. -
---Most extremely loyal alums (sports-wise) have a good memories as students going to games. This is why it is important to get students to the games and for them to have a good time. It helps a lot when we are playing other colleges where their hometown friends are attending or colleges with "a name". such as Navy was. . ---The administration and faculty should support the athletic program as well BECAUSE loyal alums also "chip into " the financial pot also, and it effects academics as well. Some just don't get the athletics can increase school pride and loyalty and can help their programs as well. I think it is a safe bet that UT gets a lot of donations because their athletic programs are very sucessful. -- I am not exactly a great fan of CUSA or think it is a lot better than the Belt, BUT it has colleges in it that would provide us with local rivalries which would help us create interest in games and improve attendance.. Meanwhile we need to excell where we are... the Belt.

Polaroid Is Dead.

---Guess none of the execs attended my classes... LOL... I am always saying that "the world you are born into is not the world that will exist when you die" ....also "if you really want to get rich , figure out where the world is going and get there first (Bill Gates did)" . ---Even for those of us on this board, think what exists now that was not available when we were kids in the first grade. Someone made a fortune making these items. Even more extreme is the fact that my great-uncle was alive and fairly healthy when I graduated from high school (he was about 97 but only 78 when I was born) ... He was born in the final year of the Civil War ...... meanwhile my sons are computer/software engineers. The world is changing and rapidly, you have to adjust or be left behind. -
