  1. --Thre is no reason to not red-shirt Riley. There is enough talent available now and no need to burn up a year of his elgibility. Besides he is unlikely to leave for the NFL unlike some players do who leave that have a lot of talent and size (Riley is too short for NFL). He should sit this one out and then have four more years and can use the last one to start/get a masters degree as others have done.
  2. ---It was possible to buy UNT window stickers when I was a student during the mid 60's. Someone jumped the gun and printed up a a bunch of them when the legislature (the house if I remember right) passed the name change to UNT but the Senate did exactly what was posted above and would not pass it and went with the name NTSU. I am sure the old Wolfe-Neu drug had them. That was the name North Texas wanted in 1961? and did not get because of some nervous UT grads. The funny thing as the baby boom hit about 3-4 years later, they were forced to create a lot of UT-Where-evers in order to have enough money to finance them (from the University-Lands Fund). ---I like the Alumni name (which I seem to remember being a former name) . It implies we are students forever or long after graduation and that graduation doesn't terminate learning as the "former students" or "ex-students" name does. . Funny comment about tradition....... "We have Fouts"
  3. ---The whole point is nothern Alaska an expensive place to drill, very hostile climate, and it would do little to help out the problem.. The claim we have have more reserves that the Middle East may be true some BUT we are talking oil the is extremely expensive is very difficult to produce and would not drop the cost of gasoline one cent... Anwar might drop it a few cents but only cents, The price of gasoline is all about the WORLD's demand for oil and has very little with us and what we can do. ---Her comments are more fairy tales than fact.... but I do hope she runs against Perry and gets him out of office. ---Look at that map again... do you have any clue how severe the environment is and the problems it causes and hard it is to even transport oil from there??
  4. That is a surprise...had never thought about it. It helps keep every team motivated to win.!!
  5. --- What do we do when that field is used up...?? Many consider Anwar our reserve in case something happens to our Middle Eastern supplies. Production in that area (Alaska) is extremely expensive compared to Middle Eastern oil which is cheap to produce. It might bring down the price some but not as much as many would have you believe. Oil supplies off the Florida Coast make more sense and is in inter-national waters which means others can drill there if they chose too. We can not really control that area or keep others out. --- For those of you want Anwar drilling now.... Can you imagine what the Middle Eastern guys would charge us when we no longer have any American sourses available..?? Think things though.. and don't just take the first easy answer.
  6. --- I don't why in this case it was changed but a lot of places don't use the term "Ex-students" because they consider learning is a life-time process that doesn't end at graduation which is what term seems to indicate..... It implies, Graduate... you aren't a student anymore and will learn nothing more. ---The same go for the term former student association. ---The term Alum or Aluminus implies nothing about learning stopping but that you were once an enrolled student at North Texas or where-ever. I heard that explanation for the name when I enrolled at another University... that used the term Alumini Association.
  7. -- I agree ... it is funny.... I guess the brightest bulbs on the planet don't attend SMU.... unlike they would like the world to think.
  8. ---You need to read more or listen to more variety in news sourses including TV stations. That has happened and some have been completely ridicious without any justification. ---I do absolutely agree with you about Bush messing up the hunt for Ben Laden... he could have devoted more resourses and intelligence gathering to him (who really was connected to 9-11 and not Saddam), if we had not invaded Iraq. More Americans have now died in Iraq than in 9-11. A more citizens of Iraq since our invasion have died than was dying before plus a lot of public services (water and electricity) that worked fine then, don't now. Various groups of Islamics in Iraq were not trying to kill each other then or us either.
  9. ---Not to pick on Lincoln but in 1860 in an era of such a slow communications and transportation, an invasion was pretty much impossible.. Now we could go up in smoke in a few minutes with some very big "booms". The world has changed but is the amazing part about our Constituion... it still works with little revision 200+ years later.
  10. --The same happend just prior to building the Super Pit. Advisors suggested waiting until interest rates dropped but construction costs went up and we were worse off... It was originally scheduled to be a a couple thousand larger. We were in the MVC with Louisville et. al. and we though the larger size would be needed... times have changed and basketball interest at UNT is nothing like it once was.
  11. 2014... Hopefully we will have new stadium in place then. 2011 is likely the best we can hope for at the moment for it to exist. Really like the fact that they are home and home deals... Those kick up interest and attendance.
  12. ---Louisiana Monroe last year defeated Alabama and also FAU which won the SunBelt... La Tech did about nothing. If LaTech wants to trash La-Monroe... fine... La -Monroe should just ignore them and move on and let LaTech just rot. It the long run Monroe may be the more recognized school, LaTech is so isolated from the rest of its conference and nothing resembling a conference rival and no one cares about them (not in much a fan market either, the entire town of Ruston is smaller than the NT enrollment) . Tech's day in the sun is probably over. The town of Monroe is about triple the population of Ruston. ---Perhaps we should do the same to SMU which trashes us.
  13. ---Sort of hate to mention this but SMU went 1-11 last year also.... Their one win was us. I noticed that there was a thread wondering about any TV games..... that should answer that question as to why not.
  14. WHAT???? -- There are ultra rich people that are left wingers.!!!.... OMG .. I thought the right wingers claimed the left wingers were made up of the poor and unfortunate that want hand outs.... LOL.
  15. ---So much for the party of morality and family values.... Apparently truth is not one of them when dealing with an opposition candidate. ---As for oil prices--neither party can do much. Oil is a worldwide commodity and one country (even us) can do little to change them. What could have been done by us was maintain the international exchange rate of the dollar. [ by not rapidly increasing the national debt, it will have doubled by the end of this presidential term compared to his taking office in 2000 ] Ten years ago it cost about $1.51 to buy a British pound , now it cost about $2.00.... as a results $4.00 gasoline would cost only $3.00 if the old exchange rate were still in effect. Against many other currencies our exchange rate has even deteriorated worse which means all imported items now cost more than they would have with the old exchange rate.
  16. From: Lee Iacocca ... former President and CEO of Chrysler... Not exactly the village idiot. http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/iacocca.asp
  17. ---They have 20 starters coming back after a 8-5 year. They could be very good. UT better not sleep through this one. UT has a history of sometimes doing poorly in game one, see last year, but not when playing us . The first four weeks look interesting.. They could really help the SunBelt's image if they can win several. 2008 Schedule Aug. 30 at Texas Sept. 6 UAB Sept. 13 at Michigan State Sept. 20 at Minnesota * Sept. 30 at Middle Tennessee * Oct. 7 Troy * Oct. 11 OPEN DATE Oct. 18 at Western Kentucky Oct. 25 at UL Monroe Nov. 1 OPEN DATE Nov. 8 North Texas * Nov. 15 UL Lafayette * Nov. 22 at Arkansas State * Nov. 29 FIU * ________ 2007 Schedule CFN Prediction: 4-8 2007 Record: 8-5 *defeated last year The only team that they lost to that is still on the schedule is La.-Monroe ( in triple OT), the rest are new to their schedule.
  18. The biggest change at North Texas sportswise has been the attendance and rabid fans at basketball games. With Louisville, Cincinnati, Memphis, Wichita, Drake, Bradley, etc. coming to town--- they were wild and crazy and we deserved the title "Snake Pit". We would fill the old Men's Gym and only had a student body of about 13,000...not 33,000.
  19. ---No doubt the "Mean Green" phrase became very common during the Joe Green era and that Mrs. Graham is largely responsible for it getting to be a common phrase that has survived since his graduation. This I have heard forever. I graduated in 1966, just prior to this article (by one year) but I think I had heard it while I was a student. My memory (which could be bad) is that is was extremely rarely used. I have looked in a couple annuals can not find it used in them [ 1966, 1965 ] . No doubt this current use of Mean Green comes from this team, 1967, but as it is with most things, there was a background in which it was sometimes used. Even the "creator" of Monopoly had lifted ideas for his game from earlier less popular versions. ---It would be interesting for someone older than I am to look at some older annuals or old newspaper (if they have any, I have a few) and see if the phrase shows up. I have not found one. ---The current use no doubt goes to Mrs. Graham, her husband (sport infomation director that used it publicly), and the team that existed then which included Joe Green. I believe that the team name came first, and then Joe picked it up from that. ---Lots of names in that article that became well known... maybe not so much today but they were for several years in the NFL..
  20. He coaches every team on Saturday morning TV. [ie. he is out of the profession, not as successful as others in family are. ] I think his points are valid, he just isn't all that great coaching in the pits Head coach is a very complex deal.. recruiting (players and assistants) , teaching skills, fan/alum relations, good game planning, good sideline decisions, talent evaluation, and much more. Very few excel at all of them. The old Houston coach, Bill Yeoman, used to say if the could just recruit most of the talent in and near Houston that he would have a big-time winner every year. He really emphasized getting locals, then picking up a few away from the area.
  21. Answer to screen name: TechDawgg? No evidence that he was really connnected to LaTech (that I read) , just the name. What did he do: Sunday afternoon he posted about 70 threads, all Titled "Ban me" with the message "Ban me"... Every time someone posted he would post a ton more pushing ligit threads off of our first visible page. Basicly he was being an idiot. The board did the right thing and responded very little to him and just ignored him mostly until they were all "erased". What legit points.??... Ban Me is ligit ???? I see "CheckFacts" is gone from membership.. I must have missed something that triggered "Ban me".
  22. I hope he enjoys his weekly reminder for Golf and Racing from Yahoo sports for an Identity that he can get not access *(an old one, not now used). Likely that will trigger more emails. ..advertising... I said he wanted to know about great offers... *a friend's that used fictious info and has not used in years.
  23. Oh no... He will likely enjoy that one...
  24. sign him up for everything (emails)
  25. ---The anti-gun comments are likely coming from urban folks that just don't get it... If they had ever picked up a bale of hay with a rattle snake under it they might change their mind (I have).... If you let him live then next time you pick one up he might find you first. I once had to toss a gun to my father who had one about to strike him from about 9 inches away.. I could hear the snake but not see him from where I was. Fortunately he was able to shoot before taking a hit. We also have had raccoons tearing up feed sacks and making a mess and ruining a lot of cattle feed. I have known of them tearing up roofs (wood shingles) and making a large hole to get into attics... We have shot armadillos that were digging and tearing up flower beds and vegetable gardens. Guns do have a place in the world.... but some types should be regulated... no one needs a machine gun or bazooka. ---A couple of years ago, my son had a Emu rooster charge him with his feathers puffed up ready to fight (that bird was as tall if not taller than him) We were prepared this time , the day before he had found me and backed me about a hundred yards across a pasture to a pickup and I was staring at him the entire way expecting a fight at any minute. Granted I don't think people need these near machine guns with banana clips but guns have a place and we semi-rural people view them as tools... not toys. Most gun nuts I know don't own one acre of land or really need one for self defence.. These guys I wonder about. ---If you are concerned about Bambi... there are way too many of them now that screw-worms have been eliminated....(even with regular hunting) The highways are full of them and they eat up a lot of our food supply as well. Wait until we get a stretch of really dry years... because they are so overpopulated....many will just starve. If you care about them... remember hunting is quick and humane compared to starving. By the way I have never shot one... I am no gun nut or great white hunter. ---Pit Bulls should be banned from city residential areas.... they might be ok as "junk yard dogs" but where families live....no.... they can't be fully trusted... They sometimes go for years without a problem then one day decide to tear someone up ..sometimes the owner even. Read/listen to the news. The people I have known that owned one seemed to have a self image problem and wanted a tough dog to compensate. ..
