  1. ---The State of Texas (government) just is not supporting education like it once did, thus tuition has skyrocketed. . They cut $800,000,000 from the state university budget a few years ago then then "let" each college set their own tuition (honestly to make up for what they had cut from the budget, not to make colleges competitive for students as Perry et. al. claimed) . It has gotten worse since.. yet we still elect those guys back to Austin... We get what we are willing to pay for. They claim to cut taxes but has any state taxes been cut that YOU pay (sales, alcohol, tobacco, etc. ) been cut. For most people, NO, but your property taxes have jumped because they don't support pulic schools or colleges like they once did. I work in education and have at both levels. (public schools and college). This is not just meant to be political but the truth about what is happening. Their idea of improving education is more "standardized state testing" which by the way doesn't dare compare us to scores in other states. .
  2. TxTech should finish higher.. Their non-conf. schedule is not that great for high ratings, but maybe they can can really impress people in the Big XII games.Win or lose they are fun to watch.... and so will we be if we can every starting winning a lot games. Both of us play an offense style that excites fans... unfortunately our defense (last year anyway) killed all excitment and interest.
  3. ---On the the green, women golfers are often as good or even better than men golfers. It is getting to the green that is the difference.... and no amount of playing with men can change that They just aren't as strong and can't drive as far as men. ... (so much for playing with better competition theory) Until a woman golfer can just totally dominate the LPGA, she needs to stay there. Wie can't even win consistently in the LPGA. The PGA is at fault for allowing her to play and she is stupid for doing so. A couple of weeks ago she did a even stupider thing... did not even sign her score card and got DQed.
  4. ----I agree with everything..... plus she is already competing against better competiton in the LPGA tournments... if not, why can't she defeat them.?? She is not the Tiger Woods of LPGA.. so she should play there until she gets to that point and dominates the LPGA. ---I suppose they think they will improve TV ratings but putting her in those tournaments... nothing else makes any sense. Maybe admitting women in bikinis would help ratings also or even using them as caddies. ---About the logic of playing MUCH better competion... Does any one think a HS team scrimmaging the Cowboys would help them get better??? ...dumb...
  5. Is that a quote from "Great Momments in Presidential History" (Letterman) ??
  6. About time the liberals got even...LOL.... In the 1600's the right-wing ultra-conservative religious nuts (Puritans) were hanging so-called liberals as Witches if they dared questioned their beliefs. So much for the fable of coming to America for religious freedom.
  7. --A chemical program ..maybe... a nuclear one.... next to impossible if you know anything about physics. In case you haven't noticed ours at Los Alamos was rather large and even today it would still have to be large. .
  8. ---You are greatly over-estimating Iraq.... claiming they hid all-evidence of WMD. One of two people might be able to hide but to hide an entire program involving dozens if not hundreds of people for five years is crazy... A weapons programs is not like some meth lab somewhere, it requires complicated equiptment and lots of people.. ---Iraq wanted Iran to wonder about a possible problem since they are bordering neighbors and may have a weapons program... Iran/Iraq had a major war in the 80's and Saddam feared what the Islamic nuts in Tehran might do (as do we) . A bluff was about all he had left... we had destroyed his tanks and jets in the Gulf War. ...basicly he had no ability to defend himself. We or Europe was never his target. ---It amazes me how many just refuse to believe the truth and just believe what they want to be true.
  9. ---maybe from Iraq --------- but never from defending a free press. The right to say and print your opinion is what makes America.... AMERICA. Dictators and dishonest politicians fear a free press... honest ones have very little to fear. ( just from those who distort the truth and those people who actually believe it ....seen the B.Spears/Obama ad lately...LOL.. get real.. if that is the best they can come up with then he is a saint.. which he isn't nor is McCain.. .. )
  10. ---Really --- this sounds more like a statement made in the Soviet Union by Stalin --Without a free press we would never get the truth. [see USSR, China, and Nazi-Germany] Sometimes the press is even wrong, usually it is right, sometimes it has bias (IBD).... it is up to us to sort out the truth, but it is there somewhere. Oh by the way, that sourse is so biased it is not credible. Any decent sourse will always support and criticize any point of view [party or individual] if it is a truely honest sourse, this one doesn't. But then again some people just don't want to think and can't handle the truth. No doubt we won the war... easily.... ( they had almost no tanks or jet planes, they were destroyed in that Gulf War and enforcing the no-fly -zone afterwards).... It is the follow up to install peace and put a governemnt in place that has been the problem and had little pre-war thought. In other words... not much long range thinking by those who do not want to think. It was a shoot and ask questions later situation... maybe the White House should first have asked what happens after we win... apparentally they didn't.
  11. CUSA would be a more desirable conference if they added us... a really large state school.... and in as huge potential market..plus we would provide another in-state rival to boost fan and media attention...
  12. --Well, one thing we definitely need is lower scores (by opponents). Maybe it will help that.
  13. Joe Green/Steve Ramsey era... 8-2 We lost to Memphis 18-30 and to Arkansas by 2. Arkansas's record that year was 10-1 with only a loss to Texas which was in their 30 game win streak. Even our loss to Arkansas was impressive. We we 7-1-1 the previous year ...lost to Memphis and 7-3 the next year after this... lost to Memphis, San Diego State, and Drake.
  14. --Did you leave your new wife in Vegas???... I have heard that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas ...LOL...
  15. --Intersting comment in article maybe in comments... FAU (Florida Atlantic) of the SunBelt was the only Florida school to win their bowl game last year.
  16. QUOTE(TheTastyGreek @ Jul 30 2008, 02:54 PM) Stein's article ISN'T STEIN'S ARTICLE. ---That is the major problem in America. some don't think the truth matters... and will say anything to get their way or get elected. One group claims to the party of family values then spreads all sort of mis-representations of their opponents. (most aren't even close to true) ---As for religion in schools... I have been there as a staff member... and the problem is which denominastion you allow make a statement it is almost certain to offend some other group. So who do you allow in ... the group at El Dorado?? they claim to represent Christianity. We have had churches insist their children can't be allowed to go to pep rallys because that is idol worship... Want them there..??.. Maybe you are now seeing the problem. We have a couple of Well Known-Name churches in town here such that one sells beer at their fund raising fall-carnival and the other one just two blocks away is anti-beer and you can't be a deacon if you have been known to drink beer. Which one of those should be allowed in the schools to make a statement... BIG PROBLEMS ... and schools don't need more problems. Careful what you wish for , you might get it. --The Church shooting... The extreme liberals aren't the only guys to worry about.. the right wing crazies are nuts as well.
  17. ---The Farve mess started when the Packers messed up and drafted Rodgers with a first round pick a couple of years before they should have. At that point they have had to to pay two starting QB saleries and after last year decided Favre should leave and apparently talked him into it. He regretted it and the soap opera started with both sides making dumb mistakes. Who knows how it will end. When GB made that pick the announcers criticized it as premature and claimed GB had a lot of other needs including a good RB and better receivers then. ---GB is now also in a dispute with Grant, their current RB, who thinks he deserves more cash. Granted he has a contract but he has far exceeded the expectations of him.. This has sort of been slid under the carpet. ---This club is a mess but I hope JQ survives all of it.
  18. ---This wins the prize for "Worst Webpage Ever". ---I agree, it does look like it may have gone through several computer type translations and came back to this. It appears that 2-3-4 totally different webpages were merged into one and this nonsense resulted.
  19. --I've posted several times about energy... My last four rides all have used 23-25 MPG. Dodge mini-van, Honda CRV, Mercedes-300, Pymouth mini-van. Mass transportation is not an option here in West Texas. I am 1/2 mile from work, wife is 2.5 miles. I guess yawl know but I-20 past Monahans and I-10 past Kerrville has a 80 mph speed limit. If you have been there you understand why.
  20. Pizza clerk surprised to find robber is her dad Published: Friday, July 18, 2008 8:45 AM CDT DENTON, Texas - Police said they will not file charges against a clerk whose parents and husband were charged with robbing the pizza restaurant where she worked, officials said. Police said the clerk didn't know they planned to rob the Pizza Patron Friday night. While the robbery was in progress, the clerk discovered her father was the robber when another clerk struck him, knocking him out and knocking off his wig and sunglasses. He was later apprehended after witnesses followed the getaway pickup. "Her husband told us she didn't know. He knew they were going to rob someplace but he thought it was going to be a convenience store," police Sgt. James Brett said in a story in Monday's online editions of the Denton Record-Chronicle. A surveillance video corroborated the clerk's story. A police report shows the trio was in custody within 14 minutes of the robbery. All three suspects were charged with aggravated robbery.
  21. --Ever seen the TV series "Ice Road Truckers" on the History Channel which is mostly about suppling the oil industry in the Artic?? Yes it can be done... no it is not easy..or cheap.
  22. --- The real problem is that you asked an SMU grad and expected to get a credible answer...LOL. Since oil is an international commodity with widespead use, don't expect our politicians (either party) to have much impact on oil prices. it is about supply and demand and mostly about the increased demand in Asia. Drilling off the coast of Florida may help some in prices not climbing but don't expect a noticable drop in prices. Let me guess, the absolutely yes was from a rabid Bush supporter that thinks he walks on water.
  23. Exactly.... They are out there drilling in international waters off our coast (Florida) and we don't. ... Dumb. It may have made sense when they weren't there but not now. I am not sure just how that is called the moral high road though. Alaska (Artic circle) is totally different... it is on our land, totally under our control, and unbelievably difficult to do and transport back to "civilization". --- Of course with all this Global Warming it may become the new tropical paradise....LOL... and be easy to drill. Repeating the two governors involved, California, and Florida are members of which party again..?? Be honest and don't just blame the other party for everything you don't like...or just yell Liberal....whatever that means, since Conservative means little or no change which is what those Governors support...no change, no drilling... . .
  24. ---And Russia (USSR), China, and India were a whole lot different than today and using very little oil compared to now. It would drop some but not like then and more of the American oil supply would be gone. Much of the off-shore drilling ban we now have was put into place when Bush Sr. was President. The Florida and California governors both oppose it now... and they are members of which political party?? We had a thread blaming the other party if I remember right. Off shore in International waters does make some sense, not Alaska.
