--Marshall had no chance against Michigan (a top 5 team) last year either.... Who won??? The Giants had no chance against the 17-0 Patriots at the Super Bowl either.. Who won?? Hayden Fry (Odessa native) and North Texas was starting their #3 QB ( from Midland and with a West Texas attitude ) had no chance against ranked Tennesee. Who won?? UT had little chance against USC that had two Heisman winners in the backfield (Leinart and Bush) that had not lost in over two years.. Who won?? etc. etc. etc. etc. Who in their right mind would want to move to West Texas which has no water, dust storms, and looks awful (1900). Who won? (oil discovered) ...LOL... Never give up... wierd things happen!!

---I think you can credit that lack of effort to the coaching staff at that time... When the coach doesn't think you can win or even do well it carries over to the players. Fry and many others win just because they think they can and often the other team thinks they can't lose--- and by the time they realize that they are in for a game, the underdog is energized and "getting with the program"and has the favorite on the ropes. No doubt UT was better than Arky State but they came to win and almost did. --You can bet the Giants at the Super Bowl did not just look at the 17-0 Patroits and think they had no chance. Meanwhile the Brady bunch laughed at some of the predictions that held them to less than 20... guess what ...it happened. As Charlie Water's said, "You gotta believe!". Never give up..!. wierd things happen.

--Where did this data come from.... Rush Limbough... ?? ---These look as credible as 1."Obama is as Islamic. 2. He took the oath of office using the Koran. 3. He won't say the Pledge of Allegiance. 4. He won't wear a Flag pin..... and more.... all of which is pure horse-manure... What happened to family values...?? I guess honesty isn't one of them. PS: The inheritance tax still exists ... it just has higher limits than it once did. It should be raised even more because a lot of family businesses are destroyed because of this tax and people are put out of work when it has to be sold or partially sold to pay the tax. The tax hurts not just the wealthy (who often don't have a lot of cash.... ranches, large scale farmers, and family owned busineses such as plumbing companies) but also their employees.

Yeah.. it does..... FAU is really loaded with returning players and has a good chance of improving the SunBelt's image this year. I believe the is the Belt Champions last year as well. I doubt UT runs over them.

. --- Really.... 1855 sounds about right for your attitude. I just heard on ESPN from some guys who were very impressed with DeMarcus Ware as one of the best in the NFL... He is from that "junior college" you mentioned. --- We don't need to be putting down our conference or conference-mates by our own members... we get enough of that from the outsiders.. Besides that makes us look like we can't even beat a "junior college" ... remember they have taken us out the past two years. -
--Schnelly really is confident by spliting his team.. I wonder which group is the "B" team
-
---Well at least you understand it. I work at a community college level and once in public schools. What some kids go through to get through life is sometimes amazing.. The fact that he lost weight down to 153 tells me that something else serious is going on. In a lot of those cases education and athletics become very secondary. I am amazed when talking to people who just think every home and life situation is much like their own...nothing could be farther from the truth.

What? No Longer Hate-worthy You Say?
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to keith's topic in Mean Green Football
---When you regularly defeat them they hate you... when you lose to them regularly they love you. Let us install some more hate.... ie. WIN. -
--He did well... we lost because the defense was worse than horrible. Riley should red-shirt, besides this is a kid with no NFL future ( too short)and he could use the extra year of scholarship to work on a masters as some in the past has done (Hall).
-
---It is not just students, even in the work place people like to "kid " each other about games between schools they attended. Sort of hard to do when we play an Ohio college. I think it is good to get out of the region for at least one game but for home games it is better to play teams that are somewhat local or big name programs, better interest and attendance. With rather close ones there is a good chance of fans from the opponent attending as well. When NT plays TxTech, I am going, only 120 miles plus wife is Tech grad.

If Todd Dodge Was On Crack...

---Careful... You getting close to a being a flip-flopper and evolutionist... LOL... You are correct, offenses changes and defenses adjust to them. There really is not a best one. It is good to have an offense that defenses that don't see much and don't understand well.. That happened with the college wishbone which ran over everyone until defenses learned how to stop it. -
---It is the same in every European country....[ I have been in a lot of them] The big difference is THEY WALK not drive about everywhere. The subway or whatever gets them close and they walk the rest of the way. Beside to even get to a subway they have to climb or decend stairs. Also ALL YOU EAT places are pretty rare and even most meals I have had there were a bit on the small side... and I have never walked away from a meal feeling that I was stuffed. ---In the math classes I teach I sometimes use the comment (about inverse proportion and when no unusually heavy people are in the class) that the distance that people park from Walmart's front door is inversely proportional to how much they weigh. They heavy ones just seem to hover around waiting a close place to park....and the skinny ones park at the far end of the lot and don't mind walking ..... LOL... It is goofy but they remember it. Goofy works in the classroom.

--- Most people think more offshore will help greatly... that is nuts... it will help slightly .....eventually. If no one was drilling in the Gulf I would just leave it alone for future use. But since foreign companies are drilling there then that changes things. Of course if you happen to change your mind as conditions change then you are known as a flip-flopper...... by some..... LOL... Maybe QBs should never change the play at the line of scrimmage.... if that is the case P.Manning is the biggest flip-flopper in the history of the NFL....

. -- You sound West-Texan...LOL... I had heard about this but not quite as much details. In West Texas there seems to be less talk and a lot more do, often with unusual solutions. The Biggest difference the Tech and North Texas is location... Tech is isolated from pro sports and even from other division I universities and the entire region is much more supportative and not just from alums. People think nothing of traveling 100-150 miles to attend a game. In the Dallas area most people think of 100 miles as a long way, out here you car is just getting warmed up. --I suppose unless you have lived here you don't really understand. ---HS school football out here often draw 12,000-15,000 fans.. I went to a Allen/Rockwell game lasst year (visiting son) and was suprised at the diffenece in "attitude" since both were ranked teams. Had it been here, we would have been struggling to even get a ticket.

---No American politician or political party is to blame.. It is all about increased use worldwide, especially Asia. As for the situation of us not building refineries or drill much during the 90's.... of course there wasn't any. Oil was $13 a barrel and sometimes less. They were not even making enough money to repair refineries or to maintain low producing wells. They were just shut down or closed. We weren't hearing complaints when gasoline was about 80-90 cents (mid 90's) and a lot of the price was state and federal tax used to build and maintain highways. Check the price of oil stock and you will find the were very cheap and not a lot of profits. No politician was the blame for that either... oil is an international commodity but we are are big user but our percentage is shrinking due to international increases. --20 Years ago oil companies were hurting and merging (Gulf is gone, Exxon-Mobile is merger, Texaco has been sold off, many more). When the wind-fall profit tax was eliminated and then called a tax-cut... no one was paying it anyway...oil prices were too low for it to "kick in". It was as useless as a tax on buggy whips.

Favre Is A Jet
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
---The original sin is this entire story happened 3-4 years ago when Green Bay chose Rodgers in the first round ...years before they should have. They needed RB, linemen, and especially WR help and they wasted a #1 pick to get a Favre replacement long before he was ready to retire. As a result they had to pay two starting QB salaries for all this time and got nothing in production for the second one. They may not have asked him to leave (retire) but no doubt he was getting the feeling he was no longer welcome. It also explains his comment years ago that "it wasn't his job to get Rodgers ready to play"..... after all he wasn't even close to retiring and letting him have his job. He was not happy then that they had not drafted him some help. ---Favre made a mistake by retiring (feeling the pressure to do so) and coming back but GB set it all up years (four drafts) ago. Their management are the actual bad guys here... ---One big mess by not thinking ahead. Even TV commentators thought it was as dumb choice when Rodgers was selected.... not because of Rodgers--- but because he was not needed at that time and they had other needs. I am surprised that this has not been mentioned much, if at all, by the media. Prediction: Jets win more games than the Packers..... partly because they have a lot easier schedule and partly because Favre may increase their total by a couple of wins. ...and Rodger's inexperience will cost GB several. -

--Viewership would be worse if it wasn't on Cinemax.... A lot of folks would be watching that channel instead. A second theory is --it might be good to be on Skinamax (make that Cinemax) at that hour since a lot of people would be checking in to see what is showing... -
--Most people in Brownwood do consider themselves as Central Texas, but people in Midland/Odessa (where I now live) consider Brownwood as part of West Texas.... When I was at UNT everyone considered me a West Texan (from Brownwood).....and thought of Temple/Killeen/Waco as Central Texas. In athletics Brownwood came from the region considered West Texas. This year their district includes Snyder, Abilene Wylie, and Sweetwater--- which is definitely West Texas. The attitudes of people there is very West Texan. ---They are about 30 miles north of geographic central but far west of the population center.
-
---PHS is West Texas means Permian High School... aka Mojo. who has won more AAAAA championships than anyone and played in about 10 finals. PHS is this case does not refer to Permain... I am absolutely sure. The only other school in Texas with Seven State championships is Brownwood. Both are West Texas schools. ---UNT would be smart to recruit a bit more from this area.... which they have not done lately... the last good one was Brewster (center) from Midland, started four years.

--- We need to get more UNT alums in the legislature. Even non UT and Aggies might be helpful as well. We would been UNT instead of NTSU as early as 1961 if the UT alums in the Senate had not objected to the name and refused to pass what had been approved by the House.. ---There are three ways that our Law school can be shot down.... First they have to pass the Law School, then then they have to fund it, and then the Governor has to sign it (actually not veto it) . In the last session our "fine" Governor vetoed (line veto) the health insurance for community colleges that had been state funded for years. In many cases the local college districts had to raise taxes or in our case they cancelled the raise we were to get and diverted it to insurance. I know this sounds political but it is with reason... and not because of his political party he. He doesn't seem very pro-UNT or even pro-education either. -
---Hell will be frozen over before that conference exists, not that I would object to it. I do wish the metroplex basketball tournament would exist and on a regular basis. All would benefit from a cheap travel and lots of local fan interest and would work well for a pre-Christmas tournament since players would be close to homebase... At present none of the four are in the same conference so that is a positve also since those matchups would not otherwise occur later... This makes too much sense and the egos of some of them will likely prevent it unfortunately.
