.. THANKS FOR THE CONFIRMATION of what I posted--- ----And the same is true in New Mexico, Florida, California, and Arizona.. as well as a few others..... It explains why we are higher than SOME states but not the highest. I have read the same and with the explaination you just gave and with the comment I just made.... Note who they (insurance execs. etc.) tend to donate to in Texas campaigns. Ie. follow the money... Got a good explanation for homeowners insurance...???.. don't mention hurricanes... other states have it a lot worse than we do especially when you consider the size of the state and how much of it is totally unaffected by hurricanes. Texas is one of the most profitable states (some say THE most) to be in insurance according to sourses I have read. -

---You never know.... the 2000 election was decided by decided by 700 votes (in Florida) .... or 350 if consider how many people it took to switch votes. ....LOL --- I once was an election judge that once was part of a small committee [ loser requested a recount] that had to decide a county race that was decided by ONE vote. -
---No doubt that is true... but I wasn't implying that only ONE party was guilty of TRYING to do unethical things as some were.. It is up to the local voter registration boards to throw these out. It is a lot tougher in Texas to pull that off than in some states because of the way our system works... ---The ones mentioned in the local paper were not in California but the midwest.

Rick.. --- I was alive (in college) duing the 60's as you said...[ also draft bait for 6 years ] There was alot of political chaos then but it was totally different than now. It was not so much between parties but from groups wanting civil rights and opposing the war which also was not divided so much on political lines**. When I graduated from HS the kid behind me in math was black (good student) and not permittted to attend any SWC college or even the Baptist one in my home town which was a few blocks from his house.. That was not right. Women also had serious problems and had trouble conducting business without a husband's signature. My mom ever now and then was totally disgusted by it all..... the worse being when she was not allowed to check the family bank account balance without my father being present.. Maybe not every bank did that but theirs did. [she opened an account at another one that would allow her access] Woman were not permitted on juries until after that period even if a woman was on trial.. You are years yonger than I and I don't think you have a true picture of the way things were. note the movie 12-angry men.... no wowen.... there weren't any on juries on most states. When the Civil Rghts bills were passed Lyndon Johnson predicted that they had just handed the South to the Republican party.... and it happened......but was the right thing to do. I know you are sincere but really don't seem to understand how things were then. ---I do dislike Perry... I work in education and dislike how much he has cut education funding and how much tuition and LOCAL property taxes have gone up as a result....(funding has to come from somewhere ) ... I have a direct reason to do so.... it is not one bit about which political party.. Not once have I said a bad comment about McCain... other than saying I don't think someone (Palin) from a small wilderness town who had never traveled internationally understands international problems or even the problems of large American cities. I really find it hard to believe that people can honestly defend this decision. I also disliked Gov. White (Democrat) and some of the idiot things he did to education... So did a lot others... he lasted one term. . It is all about issues not party. You appear to be party oriented, not issue oriented. ---Perry has also cut funding to state parks and they are falling apart..... It is THE headline in today's local paper. I use parks and once camped out a lot at them with my kids. A couple of years ago the Park system had ONE pickup budgeted for the ENTIRE system. A lot of repairs can't be done and many restrooms are just locked up. He and current legislature is at fault. Again I oppose him because of what he has done... not what party he is a member of... ---Our home insurance rate in Texas is double the national average now. Our auto insurasnce is the highest in the USA.... Please tell me why I should support him... don't just state he is conservative or GOP or whatever... give specific reasons. I stated some that say why I don't. --- I have listened to Billy Graham (a lot)... maybe my memory is bad but don't remember him endorsing candidates or even a political party. I know he has visited the White House many times and Presidents of both parties. He is nothing like most of the current group on TV etc. ---I will repeat... I dislike a cartoon of someone holding a gun to the head of another especially a political one. . I am not anti-gun.. I own several... That type of picture is not something most Americans approve of......nor is it funny. . **LBJ (as President) had breakfast meetings at the White House a couple of times a month with the leaders of BOTH parties [ Ford-the House , Dirkson-Senate], and many other to discuss problems and legislation. That no longer happens and in fact except McCain, Liberman and a few others... they don't talk much at all that I can tell. That don't work together as they once did even if they had "issue" differences. No one disliked Goldwater (actually they respected him) who was considered far right then... later he appeared to be very moderate [ it wasn't Goldwater that changed] and he opposed religion trying to control government . ___________________________ ---Your weight... about 192...[ how close am I? ] I have talked to you in person (with my son) several times. (most 2-3 years ago) .. I doubt you remember me... You tended to blow me off. I even identified myself as Screaming Eagle-66. I own a shirt or two you had for sale as well .................LOL -
---According to some sources including the highly Republican slanted paper in Midland... a lot of these phoney names and registrations are done by people who are trying to "clog up" the system so bad that voter registration offices will not have time to process all of the applications of legitimate voters of college students *and others. Oddly these guys that do this usually support the opposite name you mentioned and are trying to lower the voting strength of young voters that tend to support him.. ---By law, any group that collects voter registration forms must turn all of them (even bogus ones) into the voter registrations office. The voter registration office then has to check each one before granting a voting certificate. The law is this way to prevent groups from discarding names that they think may be unfavorable to their view or to presvent discrimination. Often the registration groups separate the forms into 2-3 piles... probably valid, probably not valid and really bad... to help out the registration offices. I work elections. ---Stuffing ballot boxes (as you put it) should be very difficult if the voter registration office does its job properly. *it was done at the campus I work in an attempt to get young voters more interested... I know of no problems with it. ****Learn facts...... not crazy email rumors.

. ---Did not see it... I don't read everything and have not even checked in on GMG in several days. Just because one person demonstrates poor behavior doesn't not justify anyone else to do so...... sounds rather childish.. ---For what it is worth. I am definitely a Christian...( attend regularly, wife even teaches at a private school started by a church ) but don't think churches have any business campaigning for candidates and don't think government should dictate to churches either... In other words I agree with the Constitution. I even went to a religious sponsored college for a while. You jump to far too many conclusions without knowing facts. ---Surprise.. I never have voted straight ticket.. I unlike you appear to be.. am open minded to others and their ideas. I don't consider either party the "enemy" and definitely would not suggest shooting them. Both parties have some good people and both have have sorry ones. ---I and many others really dislike how our country has been so divided... it was not that way when I was younger. I personally think it is largely due to all these "hate mongers" on radio and TV (even some who are supposedly "religious" programs). Once talk-radio got started (most stations were was once news and top-40, country stations, or had religious programing without political overtones) plus the 24 hour cable programs started when began about 1980 due to satellite technology....things have really changed..... and not for the better..... ---One thing I thing college should teach us is to have an open mind and to listen to others.... then believe as we wish. None of us are always right and none of us are always wrong.... and neither is any political party or any church. . -

. --- I love the part that Rush Limbaugh refers to his listeners (supporters) as "ditto-heads". Ditto means "me-too"... I laugh every time I hear him call them "me-too-ers" and imply that they can't think for themselves. I doubt if they realize what he is doing.... LOL -

...WE ARE NOT LIKE THE SOVIET UNION or RED CHINA THAT SHOT POLITICAL OPPONENTS. (offensive picture/cartoon) ---No one running for office in the USA is a Socialist that wants to nationalize any companies or nationalize farming land as did the Soviet Union and Red China. Perhaps you could consider public schools, public colleges, and public hospitals, as socialist instutions since thare are a lot of people who pay taxes that do not use them. The people of Texas (by way of taxes) paid for part of our North Texas and public school education... -
---If we are bringing great players into the program.... then we are awful at motivating them... pick one... plus we are giving up 50 points per game....no one is worse. Even with good sophs and freshman we should win a few or at least look better than we do... After all we are not playing the schedule that UT is playing every week ...... a top 20 team and most in the top 10 and many undefeated. .

Villarreal Issues Challenge To Unt Fans
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
---This a football crazy state..... and there are a lot of good athletes out there...... we should be at least a 50-50 team given the people we play. More wins means better support... in the stands and with the pocketbook. -
--It started about tuition and college costs increasing rapidly since 2002 because of what the legislature did... The stadium issue is also going to raise college costs some ...... But I think is is needed and football is really rather inexpensive advertising which means our degrees become more recognizable when seeking jobs. . Lamar and UTA have really slipped a lot from view since they dropped football. When I was at NT, UTA was within 1000 students of being the same size and both were almost equally known statewide. They screwed up. . A bad football team is much better than no football team....

---Most big employers pay for health insurance. All three of my "kids" have their insurance paid by their employers. The way it is now they now, instructors have to pay federal taxes first on the earnings and what is left buy insurance. Given a choice of $1000 in insurance or $1000 raise... take the insurance.. It is not taxed first....... well it will be ..... be if McCain's plan becomes law. For community colleges (who don't pay big bucks anyway) having prepaid insurance is better than a raise of the same amount. .......Basicly Perry cheated on the employment agreement which was agreed to before taking the employment, it had been considered part of the pay package. ---You just don't get it. I'll bet your earnings exceeds ours as well. Both of my sons the first day of the job ( not in education) made more than I did after 30 years, their insurance was also provided in addition to their salery. There was no way they were going into education at any level. I am not complaining about the pay really just that Perry did not live up to the agreement ---- and changed it. ________________________ ----You probably are so "conservative" that you think public schools and public hospitals are examples of socialism... which I guess they are... I guess you think everyone should just find a private school and pay for an education and do the best you can for medical care. Which is pretty much the way things were in the 1800's. By the way North Texas is a STATE-SUPPORTED institution and people who have never even attended state supported college and and never plan to attend--- got to contribute to your education by way of paying taxes....... so I guess you believe in some socialism since you attended a state supported college and likely public school .... at one time all colleges were private and only the rather wealthy could attend. Doctors, dentists, lawyers, and pharmacists got to be one by working for another one... and not by going to a "school". I suppose you think that the the old method was best and that you would get would get good services that way. ....Are you sure you know what you support???.

Mean Green Pursues Long Green For Future
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to mgsteve's topic in Mean Green Football
Long-Green = money That is funny.... every once in a while I hear some odd phrase or term that I must have heard for years and it never registered. Then I learn the meaning and almost always I will hear it several times in the next few days or weeks. It is odd what we don't know sometimes. "Long Green" or "green" is a very common expression.. at least to me. -
Utsa Football - Hunting Coaching Candidates
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to STE's topic in Mean Green Football
---- I know UTSA has 29,000 students (more or less) but aren't they divided up among several campuses... We are pretty much one campus. That would be a big issue on school spirit and support. ---- I agree with the above posting.... Texas State should be a big rival.... besides we have played them many times stretching over many decades. I-AA (or whatever) or not... we should schedule them more often.... it would be good for both of us. -
. ---Prior to 2002, (which you mentioned) each university went by a statewide tuition standard... During Craddick's first session as speaker, Perry, Craddick et al. cut over $700,000,000 from the budgets of the state universities and then "LET" each university set their own tuition "to make them competitive for students" (so they claimed). That is total BS..... the truth is they cut funding --therefore universities had to come up with money somehow so allowing them to raise tuition was "their" answer. It is now more difficult for those people of limited means to attend college anywhere in this state. ---Meanwhile they brag about cutting taxes in the state.....REALLY..??... the sales tax, gasoline tax, alcohol tax and tobacco taxes, have not been cut nor has any other tax that "regular folks" pay. Not only that, ad valorem taxes (property taxes, school portion) have gone up a lot as well since that state contributes less to public school districts (per-cent-wise)..... (about 20% less) . Maybe you think you are paying less taxes to the state but if so.... name what it is......PLEASE.... I would like to know what they are..!! ---In the last session, Perry even vetoed the funds for health insurance for community college instructions ( I am one) . They had been paid by the state for years.. If you think I don't like these guys .... you are right...... and for a good reason.... and not just because I dislike the look of elephants. -------------------- Re the ballot... sounds a bit fishy to me. ... but I support a new stadium. It sounds a lot like the questionnaires that Craddick passes out to his district (I am unfortunately in it) that are worded so nutty that only a total idiot would respond differently that he wants to report.... which he spins to be somewhat differently that the question is worded. Made up example but not too far off: "Do you you support the Christian beliefs that the GOP endorse? ( implying that the Demos are pagan socialists ).... crazy.. Not many would honestly say no to that question.. so he states "the local people support his beliefs and oppose the the other party positions. ------Stalin: It doesn't matter how the actual vote turns out, just who counts the ballots.

---Cowboys ( as well as NT) got a lesson in "Special Teams matter". They gave up a TD on the opening kickoff, they missed a Field Goal to end the half (hit pole) and had punt blocked in OT. Change any of those and they win. In addition overtime existed because of a long Field Goal. yep.... Special teams matter ---- and should be worked on constantly and not taken lightly. Our coach in HS also considered goalline stands (both sides) "special teams" as well. He was fairly successful... he won 9 state titles. (Gordan Wood) He constantly worked on all of them..... every week. Cobbs in addition to being a reserve RB works on many Special teams...

42...... hmmmm 42 - 19 = 23 65 - 42 = 23 Bad news.... You are now halfway between college freshman and medicare..... even worse the next 23 will go a lot faster than the other 23. LOL...oh yeah... I was 65 a couple of weeks ago. .....Happy Birthday anyway...

--Me too... the defense is loose enough already... in fact so much so, it is falling apart.

---No one out here refers to Hereford as West Texas, at least rarely do. North of Lubbock is refered to as the "panhandle".... That area except womens sports get regularly trounced by this area. The UIL redid the district last year (yes Amarillo is now in Midland District --200+ miles away--crazy) and the top five teams are from this area and the bottom feeders are all from the "panhandle".
-
---Fort Worth for years has claimed it is where the West Begins. I am from Midland and I consider Vernon (also Wichita Falls) part of West Texas... similiar attitudes, oil and ranch country, not a lot of tall trees unless planted or along a creek. Even in UIL regional meets in various sports it sits in the Western Region. Not in "Far West Texas" maybe but then Midland isn't either... El Paso people laugh when they refer to us in Midland as being Central Texas. We are as close to Fort Worth as El Paso. --How about everything that lies west of what was the Chisholm trail.... not a bad dividing line.
