#3 is so wrong... You are taxed on the gains** (EARNED as you called in) .. Obviously you are not one of the super rich that has been getting all the breaks either that are you have royally screwing yourself on your income tax. ----------Think what you just said---- You could buy stocks one day and sell it the next for exactly the same amount and you would owe a lot of taxes... that is crazy. #2 is sort of a stretch.. What is left of income after expenses and taxes is the earnings which might become dividends or may be just kept by the company for expansion, debt payment, or what ever reason they want to use it for. . ** that is why they are called capital gains I certainly hope you don't have a degree in business..if so NT should refund some of your money.

---Maybe not... but he did not create this mess, removing controls and regulations on Wall Street and Banking did... and he did not do that either. --- Your comments sort of seems like blaming the doctor for a guy's death after a serious accident... He did not cause this situation. --- I also haven't heard any great suggestions from the other side of the aisle.... do they have any??

The GOP people hate colleges and the mainstream media who actually check facts.

--Ah-- you read one of those crazy emails that is circulating.. I also got one at the same time supposedly from Australia saying you won't see these in American media ...the problem... check the sources on the edge of those cartoons... they are all American newspapers or websites..... the second one was from the "New Orleans Picayune" newspaper. So much for honesty.....

---Well I agree on the morality comment.. his affairs broke up two of his marriages and was even having one with a 29 year old secretary when the "Clinton one" hit the fan. However some of that sensible legislation you mention is now hitting the fan in the financial community because of those reduced oversights and less rules on banks and loans. .....in fairness though most of that blame should go to P. Gramm because those first came from the Senate. . Doubt me? -- start reading this and other sourses.... McCain "fired" him from his campaign after all this came out. There is more than is stated here. note... I am not even blaming Bush for this one. I just think credit should go to those that really deserve it. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0308/9246.html

Wow.. me too... I once just used the phrase "Germany in the 30's" ... without other names and was banned for 24 hours . ______________________ --- Who was President when all of this financial meltdown started last summer and fall.??? --- Who was President when the Bank and Wall Street bailouts resulted in the CEO's taking all of those crazy bonuses..?? --- Who are in charge of Senate Banking committee that kept pushing for less government interference and controls on Wall Street and the Banking community and then wrote most of the bills that did so.?? ( Phil Gramm**, he took credit then... he still deserves it now ) . **His wife was on the board of directors of Enron (also their audit committee) and he had done them a "lot of legislative favors" as well. He then withdrew his re-election bid. How soon they forget...

Should Div I Basketball Split?
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
--Hell no. Basketball and football are two different worlds.... A lot more games and more out of conference games plus teams are rather small in number of players. If any school can find two or three very good players ... they can a real force against anyone. (unlike football). -

---Maybe not if you obviously represent the campus newspaper... or even the local town paper.... People expect those reports to be somewhat biased... after all who reads them? Not people 100's of miles away. You have to consider what the readership is. Those reports are expected to be honest but with a local bias....which can be done. Sports reporting is a lot different than reporting news in general....... unless you work for Fox news which never says a good thing about a certain group. . -
Dear I.r.s.

Taxed to excess Dear IRS, I am sorry to inform you that I will not be able to pay taxes owed April 15, but all is not lost. I have paid these taxes: accounts receivable tax, building permit tax, CDL tax, cigarette tax, corporate income tax, dog licence tax, federal income tax, unemployment tax, gasoline tax, hunting licence tax, fishing licence tax, waterfowl stamp tax, inheritance tax, inventory tax, liquor tax, luxury tax, medicare tax, city, school and county property tax (up 33 percent last 4 years), real estate tax, --- Care to guess why the the bold part has really increased in the past 4-6 years? (33% is mild compared to many--"mine") The state has cut funding for schools...(need more local money ie. property tax) . but none your state taxes has been cut, if you are most people ( sales tax, tobacco, liquor, gasoline, etc. ). Also tuition the past six years has skyrocketed...same reason. Guess you noticed in the DMN this week that Texas home insurance in highest in USA ----more than Florida and California with all their problems and nearly double the national average. We are #1 in auto insurance also. (thanks Perry et.al.) ---Sort of funny when some are mentioned... If we still had dirt roads instead of paved inter-states or even back to what we had in the 50's, lousy schools, small police and even volunteer fire departments, and no public hospitals...(our military in 1940 was less than 200,000) then we could eliminate a lot of those taxes... -

---One liar does not justify another.... Maher is a flake .... Franken is a bit different and a whole lot more educated. He is not the same as Rush at all but definitely a liberal. ... I don't even consider myself one.... Bush might have been a financial liberal despite his claims... he spent a whole lot more than he took in and our financial situation is largely his fault. I can't and don't spend like that so I guess that makes me a conservative...I liked the fact that budgets were balanced before Bush took office and that we actually had some surpluses to pay down the debt (if allowed by Congress at the time) . I understand that you don't like your heros criticized but sorry --- it is deserved... note our ecomonic conditions and who was in office and who did what. As for moral issues.. Clinton was a rat. You can at least be honest in your statements and recognize whose fault this mess is mostly.. Don't be so blind to what has happened. -
---Really odd --- I am sure there has been some US Presidential candidates that would love re-votes.. It should not happen unless the vote was somehow flawed (corrupt or maybe details of the situation was misrepresented). ---No one has posted a link to Vito --What did he say..? If it is the link posted by UNT23..... Big deal... just facts and nothing to really hurt us. Elections should be not held over and over until they get the results that someone wants.... then the other side starts doing the same.. crazy. SDS stills exists...?? Surely it isn't the same organization that existed 40 years ago. They were anti-everything.

--The Dow ( 20? high profile stocks) contains only one stock that can be considered internet related...Microsoft....and at the beginning of the Clinton administration it was not one of the Dow stocks but was added much later (near the end of Clinton term ) as some other one was removed ( as a result of a merger I think) --- so the internet boom had little effect on that number. ---Why did the internet boom happen.??? ...because it had been a government communication system and was put into the public domain by a bill sponsored and urged on by Sen. Al Gore. .................( no he never said he invented the internet despite what the radio crazies claim** .. he mentioned creating it with his legislation in an interview with Wolf Blitzer). .... I am sure when he did it he never realized what a big deal it would become. **Another example of distorted facts by Demo-haters. The radio crazies (Rush for example) are making a fortune doing this, it is not about truth.....also maybe they are too ignorant (Rush has one hour of college credit, dancing, he flunked the rest) or too lazy to check the facts. -

---You are correct...(not Bush on this one) Phil Gramm (R-Texas) is responsible for much of that legislation... and it passed through a GOP Congress in 1999 with a margin that any veto by the President would have been over-ridden.... read the latest Time magazine about this. Home loans to the poor (urged by Clinton ) have not been the problem.... loans to speculators (such as those expensive Florida condos) and other expensive homes with little to nothing down is the BIG problem. Thanks for posting.. PS: Phil Gramm's wife was on the Board of directors of Enron.... see a pattern...?... He dropped his re-election bid after Enron hit the fan..... and then decided he wasn't really a Texan and left the state for NY and Wall Street. ---Even Tom Delay (the House GOP leader in 1999, now discredited) can be thrown under the bus on this one as well. ---** Wake up, what you want to be true, just isn't. **----- -
--- I had one (actually two) of those idiots at TxTech when in grad school (mathematics and a TA, I did my job) .... but a differnet reason.... He was on retainer from a company in Dallas (tech company) and was constantly gone to work on or defend his project there. He was working on something involved with the space program. Lots of walks and not really an interested instructor. Learned very little but I was draft bait (I-A) and figured I was not going to be able to finish anyway and was heading for Nam. Wasn't my best semester. Finished at NT... seven years later.

----Good points, and we could not even vote for/against those that were drafting us and sending us out to be shot at and shoot people. Because of us and our complaints, 18 years old can now vote... do business.... and be treated like adults. ---Our conservative younger ones do not understand that the government is not always right and that it is our right and responsibility to speak up when we see things happening that just aren't right. --- In that same era my mother finally got to serve on a jury.... that had been prohibited until then.... even if a woman was on trial. I suppose they thought that woman were too stupid until then. Women usually could not conduct a lot of business without her husband's signature. My mom exploded when the bank would not let her pick up the bank statement even though she was working at the time and making deposits into the acoount.. She opened an account in another bank that would let her. The worse case I can think of is a college educated woman that I know that not permiited to get a library card and check out materials unless her husband co-signed the application... (true) .. Most educated women were pretty much restricted to two jobs... nurses and teachers.... even Sandra Day O'Conner (future Supreme Court Justice) had no job offers after graduating from her law school as #2 in the class. ---Times have changed..... mostly because people who did not like what was happening ( damn liberals ) spoke up.

Not at all..... the market growth occured under Clinton...not all the GOP guys and the debt increased under them not Clinton. . The national debt did not increase like the others... the value of the dollar was stable (actually imporved) against other currencies. Check out the rate of exchanges in 2000 and look at them now... awful. ---All I agreed to was the dot-com Crash was not the fault of either President.... it was going to happen when the sector matured... I try not misrepresent the truth as some do. The Dow continued at 10,000+ after a short mostly unwarranted scare (only one sector really had a problem). This situation appears to be very different and if you read--it is rapidly spreading world wide. I am not preaching "doom and gloom" but it might be and was triggered by financial problems with banks and Wall Street. You get to blame who you want ... but when did it start....? Yep. !! Stick your head in the sand if you want but it is not smart. -

-- The dot.com crash was not the whole industry but one sector actually... The market in general quickly went back up. It happened because too many in that sector had crazy ecpectations that the tech area would continue to grow at that insane rate......which any thinking person and even most on CNBC was questioning. Once everyone had purchased good business and home computers, and no more rapid changes were occuring--- it was obvious to most that that sector would slow down and quickly. In simple terms... much like a chain letter... once every has one ... the market to buy them stops.... the difference was computers do wear out and some improvements are made so that sector will exist but not so crazy as it was after the internet opened up and business discovered all these new uses. That boom had to slowdown and ---- the dot-com crash had nothing to do with Clinton or Bush... just a mature saturated market finally appeared. --Gore did not invent the internet (he never said he did) but he was the Senator that responsible for the legislation that put it into the public domain and not just for government use which it had been . I am sure he never realized what would happen as a result but he is largely responsible for that boom... doubt me.. just look it all up. http://www.wired.com/politics/law/news/1999/03/18390 Others are far more complimentary, but this a tech industry publication (considered conservative) .... so maybe you will accept it as true. --I am sure you may try to spin thast into something else but I am speaking the truth.... and you know it. . -

How about some real stats instead of "generalized conclusions..?? ---No one argues the coment to give him three years to turn it around....but we are now in freefall.... we just allowed 50 points per game and somehow won one game (that is the amazing part) ... No one in the history of NCAA division one has ever done that poorly before. Any criticism leveled here is justified ... we are not doing as well as were, much less improving. ---Improvement... first it means not doing worse.... and then it means being more competitive and hopefully getting more wins. Allowing an average of 50 points is not being more competitive. -
--- I am not a supporter this bail-out plan and the Bush one in the fall was so poorly thought through that the execs ripped a lot off with their greed. ... I am just saying this mess was caused by removing controls from the financial institution that had been in place since the depession (60+) years. One party kept demanding less government controls on Wall Street and in the finanacial community... and got it. As a result of the idiots in the financial community making crazy poorly secured loans and their greed, we get these bad economic conditions.
