  1. John Love... 1964-1966 ...#1 receiver at the time and played basketball in a bench role with playing time.
  2. You asked: 20-Apr-09 -- 7,969.56 --market is now fairly stable. 12-Jan-09 -- 8,281.22 A 300 drop is a bit less than the 5000 during 2008. ---There was a surplus under Clinton... just because you want it to be true doesn't mean it is. You don't remember the debate in 2000 about what to do with it..??......fix social security, reduce taxes, or pay down the debt.
  3. --- Give up ..you are looking like a poor loser. Just remember the previous guy took a 5.6 trillion debt and changed it into 10.7 trillion. He also took a Dow of 10,700 and changed it into 8,700. (dropped 5000 from the high before he left office ) He changed a budget surplus for six consecutive years into never balancing even one budget. and the economy and unemployment is now the worse in decades and was at this past inauguration time.. We are also at war supposedly because they had WMD (he said knew where they were) and they were a threat to us. ( still can't find them). That is conservative? ... I would hate to think what liberal was. Those are the big reasons the party in the White House changed. If those had not happened then your party would have won. They deserved to lose based on the above. Perhaps you should wait a while and see how things turn out.... It be be worse than the above but I highly doubt it. PS: He is a Christian, not Islamic as many also tried to claim at one time. And he was born long before we heard of Saddam Hussein just as Adoph Briscoe and Adolph Coors was born prior to us hearing of A.H. (German). Truth is in short supply from some.
  4. --- Perhaps we should reduce ticket prices.... attendance looked a bit sparse.
  5. ---Memphis was once a conference mate and seems to respect us. They may be our best supporter in CUSA. SMU is a big problem...that don't want a recruiting competitor nearby plus they have other issues with us.... including they fear competing with large state schools in their own state. (they have been there and done that) . If we improve and have good success then Houston and UTEP might come around to being in the same conf. with us. It could help them and make their conference look better. --- I prefer CUSA but I think the Sunbelt will great improve and become much more visible.... the problem is no other Texas teams.... thus little Texas media space. Adding Texas State would help some but not a great deal. ---Stay away from the WAC ......expensive travel and I feel the Belt ( located in better time zones and more populated area) will eventually exceed it in status. --- Big Twelve... forget it.. it will never happen unless the entire NCAA conference setup changes (don't hold your breath). __________ Edited after reading below comment: Tulsa (CUSA) was also a conference-mate (also MVC) ... and they might also support us and would be a close opponent. Still trust Memphis more.
  6. --You did not get to read this type of "stuff" when Eleanor Roosevelt was first Lady.... or even Barbara Bush.... or Mamie Eisenhower. The wardrobe winner has to be Jackie Kennedy... You would have thought she was a runway model by the amount of discussion going on. --Palin only had wilderness jeans, camouflage clothing, and Parkas prior to being nominated...
  7. --- Three (3-9) is likely not enough to make me smile.... Four might be IF many of the losses are competitive losses......and for goodness sake PLAY DEFENSE and keep the opponent's score down to a respectable number.
  8. ---Good Luck.. you must be better than most. What I am discussing are those that finish High School there... not so much younger kids... which often have parents capable of teaching that content. My wife was shaking her heard about one she received in a Latin class (Latin II). Neither parent had taken Latin and the poor kid thought she knew something... The wife said she could not have passed anything beyond first six weeks of Latin I ..and that is likely a stretch. I suppose it is possible but none have walked into my colllege math class and passed (that I know of).. Most that I have seen also have lousy social skills and don't fit in too well...... which working in America usually requires. Again good luck... may you do better than most.
  9. ---Quadrupling the debt...really....??... That is why I am not a GOP person... stating the truth.... Check out the truth... That means the national debt is over $40,000,000,000,000 (40 trillion) . It isn't and isn't going to be any time soon....Bush only got it to $10-11 Trillion. ___________ --That is exactly what was happening in 1996-2000.---- more coming in than going out... The GOP congress would not allow them pay any of it down.. they wanted only tax cuts. Doing both made some sense. It did not happen. Some of those cuts made sense but not the whole deal that favored the extreme wealthy (15% capitol gains). At least the debt was barely climbing (less than the interest rate)
  10. --- Had a few in my college classes... can't remember passing a one of them... their background was awful. Re: private school, some are extremely good and some schools are almost as bad as home school. Either way they usually catch up quickly since they are accustomed to structure. Look this boy up in 20+ years and check on him then.. Unfortunately his life may be totally screwed by then. --- There are some cases home school makes sense... usually a kid with physical, social, or maybe some emotional problems. I laugh at some of these kids doing extremely well on national events such as "spelling bees". If you check on the situation you likely will find that is about all the kid knows well. We have one odd school here (almost a home school) that does really well in some sports.. again they should considering how much they spend on it and not in a typical classroom.
  11. --- Just remember that when Bush took over, there was a budget surplus and the national had climbed only 1.8% per year for the previous eight years. (less that the interest rate on the debt) Poor Obama can't say that when he took over. The economy was not all that great .... and the National debt had doubled during the previous eight years. You figure who gets the blame for this mess or needing a tea party...............................OK................................. It sure wasn't Obama. Maybe the tea party should be held in Highland Park or whatever it is he lives.
  12. Times have changed.. Most of us read it... (mid 60's --- no internet, no cable TV, and we feared getting drafted to Nam rice paddys besides --that was no joke)
  13. ---This rather difficult to believe but I once taught a class that had 5 members that were later charged with murder and two more were murder victims. One of them was charged with shooting his wife... the rest... all involved drugs. I never had another class even close to that one. --- Also hard to believe today... I graduated from UNT (NTSU) in '66. I never saw anyone use drugs nor was I aware of anyone that did (we left our doors unlocked most the time also) . When I went back in '70 to work on a Masters... it was a totally different world. It was everywhere and you better lock everything up. The above graph about murder demonstrates the results of what I stated.
  14. --- The problem here is many are thinking most people are like themselves.... a lot of people aren't even close.... Emmitt is absolutely right... as is MonkeyPox... Lots of violence (even murder) occurs over issues that most of us think is totally illogical. Besides people who aren't entirely "sober" (whatever chemical, includes alcohol) sometimes will do things they would never do normally. That may or may not have been the situation here, and it could have been a large amount or very little. . -- I speak from the experience of many years which includes 40 years in education of all sorts of people including future murderers and having several friends in law enforcement plus some working in the court system (lawyers/judges).
  15. Duel...!!! How about almost fresh cow patties at two paces...??
  16. --- A great reflection upon the school (sarcasm) . A 30 second "brag statement" with some humor might have been acceptable but not this with stats and all. I suspect most of the other Congressmen can read.
  17. ---For those who think we now don't have gun control.... Know anyone that owns a 50 cal. machine gun, anti-aircraft gun, anti-tank gun, or bazooka or for that matter any machine gun (legally).???? Even sawed off shotguns are prohibited. ... We have gun control... the debate really is "How much?" ... The NRA comments often amuse me. --- If you think the guns that we have legal in the US is going to protect you against a oppressive government, you are kidding yourself..... just as Saddam though his large Army in the Gulf War was a match for the US forces. --- Guns now are for sport and personal protection... not to protect us from a military. I oppose concealed guns on campus (I have seen too many semi-crazy or drunk students) . I don't have a problem with them being in cars locked up and unexposed ( I have at times, shotgun or rifle) . I have had law officials in my class and they sometimes had a gun with them but usually not, at least not exposed. No doubt they had one in their car.
  18. ---Guess you did not read the final part... --- It is sort of like going golfing the day after your wife dies... it may not really matter... but it sure looks bad........ ---Vacations... ??... I (or anyone of this board that I have read) have never even commented about Bush taking more time out of Washington than any other President...(true) In Washington or out of Washington, who cares.. These "vacations" aren't ever vacations as they are commonly thought of... they are working vacations away from the White House.. with perhaps a few hours "off" to gather their sanity....no problem. You are so politically prejudiced it is not even funny. If you have good reasons to state why you dislike someone ..ok. ---Notice you did not quote the attendence of any other candidate for President last year either... I'll bet their attendence was very similiar. Besides sitting in the chamber is not always what is needed anyway... I do have a lot of respect for many GOP people... Bush is not one... McCain is (did not care for his decision on VP though.. very inexperenced from the wilderness of Alaska.... had never even been in a European or Asian country) Surely you don't count the time McCain and others spent in Iraq and other trips against him as not being present.
  19. ---Absolutely agree with you.. ---Very much doubt this would happen.. (use that excuse) Sometime during my lifetime I have heard of someone that used something similiar for excessive speed and the officer checked with the hospital to see if he was actually there (he was). He had copied the license number and name obviously. Even so which is better... let a few get by with a false excuses for minor law violations (a careful running of a red light) or this situation??? --- This guy showed far too poor judgement to be in law enforcement. He needs to find something else to do.
  20. --- Didn't we hire (elect) them to attend to the business of running the country... and not to watch Britney??? With the economy in the tank, even looking like they are trying to do something to help is important. Which party they are is not the important issue. --- It is sort of like going golfing the day after your wife dies... it may not really matter... but it sure looks bad.
  21. --One part of that I have always wondered about... My father was on a jury of a murder case (occured in Dallas, about 1950) in a situation where the policeman walked up to the car window and the driver just shot him dead .. At one time police seemed to prefer the driver to get out, stand their car door, with their hands completely exposed.... It seems a bit safer than walking up to a window in the dark.... That was taught to me by my father and also mentioned in drivers ed when I took it decades ago..... I see the reasoning both ways.. the other way you could tell the driver did not have a weapon and was not about to flee in the car. ... Nowdays I stay in because it is what they now want. ---The jury case... the driver was speeding aftert robbing a store and was trying to get away... The jury including my father convicted him and he got to meet "old Sparkey". _____________ Above of course the family was rather "exicted". It is not every day your mother or mother-in-law is dying.
  22. ---Educators in public schools get less....(they aren't 100% safe jobs either... I had a kid bring a gun to school probably meant for me, he had been suspended the day before) I would still be in favor of firing an educator if they did something so stupid. This guy lacks the judgement skills to be in policework, the classroom, and most jobs that deal with people.. The fact that he has a wife and kids mean nothing to me.. This guy may eventually get someone killed, a common citizen and fellow officer. I would never want to work with him. ---Also people in the tech industry, oil industry, and others are getting laid off for no personal problem reason. ...With the economy as it is... yes, there will be other takers for his job. . In fact locally our TV just commented recently that our city now has many more applications for positions including law enforcement. This guy should be gone... ... The fact that he draw a gun when the guy jumped out of the car doesn't bother me, where the event took place is crazy, on the hospital parking lot with the hospital is only a few feet away. and the story that followed--his actions are crazy... HE IS A TOTAL IDIOT. His own department should want him gone. Afterall.. that car wasn't going anywhere, he had it until the story checked out. ---I disagree with an above post... NFL player or regular guy ... this is a news story... just a bigger one because that he was. Moats did not deserve the treatment he received... the policeman will.... that is what he gets for being stupid. Stupid on an oil rig will get you or your co-workers killed. I have known of a few.
  23. --Be a fireman.... and sit around the station playing checkers and dominoes all day... that is what they seemed to do when I was a kid. (true) --You posted the first insult so I suppose you don't mind.... after all the Christian thing is Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
  24. --absolutely- Re: Guns.... It has been my experience that people who live in very urban areas tend to not understand guns at all, or even the purpose of most of them. Almost all gun fanatics I know have all been urban people... not rural or semi-rural people... I own several guns but no assault weapons... WHY? ...Are they expecting a civil war?? Besides the vast majority can not even name one situation that they or anyone they know ever had a use for one. ... Most people are much more likely to shoot themselves or a family member than need an assault weapon .
  25. --- I have the utmost respect for police and the majority are good decent people.... but this one should be fired if the facts are even close to what is being presented... I would think all other police wouild want him gone as well.. --- I once had a scary experience with one like this when I was in college... he shot at me at 4:00 AM and I was on the job as the night person at a meat processing plant tending to the refrigeration equiptment. I had done nothing, he had not warned me , and I was the only one on the job... He then put me in handcuffs and pushed me into a police car and I was about on the way to jail... fortunately another employee drove up and claimed I worked there. He thought I was a burgler so he claimed. He was not fired... I think he would have been under today rules. A few of these guys exist and should removed to do something else. His fellow policemen should never defend this guy if things are even close to how they are stated. --- I know several on a very personal basis and respect and understand what a difficult job it can be..... but this is ridiculious. To start with, all Moats had done was run a light (or carefully roll through it when no traffic coming if as stated) and had his wife with him... he obviously was not fleeing from a crime scene.... Unbelievably he continued to write the ticket when told by another policeman what the situation was... He is a total idiot and needs to find another job. ..something less challenging.
