---Turn it around some... never before extreme religious groups tried so hard to gain control of schools and government. I have benn in education more than 40 years... When did schools teach religion..?? none I ever taught in during those 40 years did. morality yes... not religion. Ever since cable TV appeared with 24 hour religious channels ( early/mid 80's), and I don't mean your typical home town churches, have the extremist (Religion-wise) have tried to gain power in politics and schools. Pat Robinson even tried to get elected President and entered several primaries. . The only political discussion involving religion I can remember growing up was that John Kennedy was Catholic and some were very concerned that he would answer to tthe Pope and would be influenced too much by his religious beliefs. ----Government has been taking over banks since FDIC existed,.. a long time.....especially during the 80's and even in my hometown... eventually they were sold to other banks. They will get out of GM...eventually.... not as easy sell as is the banks... perhaps slowly by selling stock in their share of the business. ---With Bush we were talking TRILLIONS in extra debt... not billions as you said.... It may get worse it may not.. of course conservative Bush promised a balanced budget and did the exact opposite and screwed it all up. And don't be surprized if things don't get worse before they get better. Things are in a huge mess. ---Schools ..I agree you it, after working in both public school and college, it is dumbed down in public school.... #1 improvement for education in Texas ...get rid of those useless state tests... The original statewide TABS test ( BS = basic skills, about 1980) made sense... not all these newer ones. Let teachers actually teach and not worry about getting fired because the student can't answer those crazy questions. SAT scores in Texas were better before those state tests existed. #2 fail those who do not pass but you have to come up with what to do with those that fail..... I don't want a 15 yr-old in a class of 12 yr-olds. ..and damn sure don't want them walking the streets and breaking into my house (they can't find jobs at age 15-16) . #3 Realize that not every student in Texas is going or needs to go to college. Provide some options for those students and not more Shakespeare or medieval history. It means nothing to them. #2 and #3 will cost money which many that criticize-- don't want to pay out. ---And for it is worth... I have nothing at stake in public schools now. I don't work there and have no kids there. Stop that stupid testing... it is harmful... I get to teach those that come from public schools and they seem worse every year as the testing gets nuttier. . One additional comment.... the best students in public school are as good and maybe better than ever before..... the average ones aren't. Of course those students in advanced classes don't have to put up with all the state test preparation... they are going to pass them anyway ... so the teachers in those can actually teach as they know they should. . .

---It is a big problem when people mix religion and political beliefs, too emotional and often irrational acts result (any religion..note the inquisition and the wars that resulted from the Protestant reformation ). That is why our forefathers were wise to try to separate them in our constitution.. It also explains why the Middle East is in such a horrible mess. This is not to say political people can't be very religious, just don't try to impose their religious beliefs on others through government..

---Good comment Emmitt----- The police may have not been wrong to try to stop him since he had no lights/siren on... but once he realized the situation he should have told him to turn them on and let him go. Any ticket that was to be issued could have waited until the end of the run. Almost all of us realize that most police do have a good head on their shouldiers but I have met a few that are a power trip and just want to display their authority. Those kinds just need to go..

--You really don't deal with the public much. Just look at the talk and mannerisms of many of them. They are what they are. I don't doubt that some do chose that lifestyle but some folks are just wired that way just as we are the way we are and could not really change. ---Having said the above I do not support calling that type of relationship a marriage... Perhaps some type of legal partnership should exist with a lot of legal "benefits" of marriage, but don't call it a marraige.

2013 - 2009 = 4 ...... LOL.........oink.... oonk... snort.....oink We have a history of playing the defending national champion... so expect 2012 to be a good year for them. I hope you are right and that we are much much better than we are now and can bite those dogs.. Remember Rice put 70+ on us this past year. Return game in Denton -- 2113 --- If global warming hasn't sunk Georgia below sea level.. (about as likely)

---- Option II was: Close the company since it can't pay saleries or pay for materials and then put thousands out of work.. which includes all local dealers and their employees etc. plus consider all warranties etc as voided. Once that happened those people could pay their bills or house payments and the economy even sinks worse as many that depend on their spending fail as well. Would that have been the true capitalist answer... Grow up. This is an awful solution but you got a better one.??? It wasn't like the government really wanted to do what it did. ---You also might be honest about it all and realize this administration did not cause the mess that we are in. It existed well before the last election... that partly explains the result. What you want to true .... just isn't the truth. ---The last administration politcy was tax less, spend more, double the debt, and screw up the economy.... and claim that they are conservative...!!

-- I do not agree completely about the states rights issue.. .. To start with what about Federal programs such as Social Security or Veterans benefits that makes payment to spouses. Since the U.S. Governemen is involved... it at least on those items should get to determine how it defines a spouse a or beneficiary is. The Federal Gov. also collects income tax and there is a marriage issue there as well. ---To have a dual definition of marriage (state and federal) seems to create a night-mare. Also what if a "couple" decides to move to another state... now what.??? married in one state but not another... big nightmare. ---Personally I do support the idea of some type of domestic partnership but don't call it a marriage (maybe not with full legal rights and privileges). That partnership could be a lot of things: two sisters, two cousins, two brothers, or two about anything of similar age.... with out implying anything is going on in a bedroom. I have known of two sisters and even a brother and a sister that had never married but lived together most of their lives. They too should have the same rights as a "gay" couple.

Paterno Wants Eastern Team In Big 10
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
---The Big East will have to spit apart for that to happen... They have a lot of teams that do not play football (eight?) so if they added enough football teams to get to twelve then the basketball part would have about 20 teams.... that is a really impossible siuation. Not saying they won't try to go to 12 football teams but expect a split-up of basketball if they do. Doubt Army/Navy will join a conference. -
--I think I agree with everything you said. I agree the decision should be made quickly or forget it. I also get tired of the right claiming the rest are pro-abortion.. . nothing could be further from the truth. Most people hate it and have mixed feelings and I too oppose late term ones. I also get VERY tired of the "right" claiming they are the patriotic religious group when they are not one bit more or better that the rest... Believe me that turns a lot of people off and solidifies people against them.... including me. --I think you understand what I am saying... If I claim I am better thatn you or more patriotic than you.... you won't like it.

Bush was projected to have surpluses and did not not happen either... I believe his party was in control of Congress for his first six years... pick one. He did have the power of veto plus despite the budget overruns he kept wanting more and more tax cuts for the wealthy [ I doubt either of us make millions in capital gains* every year.. that is who got the BIG breaks, not us. ] . Taking more and more restrictions off financial institutions did not help either..... of course kids in a classroom don't behave all that well or learn much if no adult monitors their activities. Not surprisingly small banks who often have owners running them do not have much problem.. just the huge financial ones in which the directors have little personal funds at stake (except their huge bonuses which they seemed to get even if their institution failed ). These needed to be watched... ---According to the local paper today (very GOP oriented -- I am in Midland. home of Craddick and Bush ) that only 22% of Americans now claim to be Republicans after the Liberal Bush years. The decline in economic activity was largely triggered by irresponsible lending practices. which caued people to get into financial trouble which led less spending and still more problems. *The low capitol gains rate could have been made so that rate applied to the first $100,000 or whatever in capitol gains (I doubt either of us make that in just capitol gains every year )--- but they weren't... The Billionaires managed to keep millions more every year and the deficit soared. Oddly they profited a lot in the short run but in the long run they have suffered the most... with the 5000 drop in the DOW that occured in 2008 (not 2009) . Give it up... you just can't put lipstick on a pig and make a beauty queen.

---Yep... me too... I hear about schools that won't allow Bibles in them. I doubt it in most cases. The truth is I have had students when I was in public school that were nearly failing (or failing) with a Bible out instead of doing their classwork.. I've told them to put their "book" up and get to work.... and guess what... I am now accused of being anti-Christian. Give me a break.!! PS: I do go to church rather regularly. --- The truth may be there... the whole truth isn't
-
---I can't remember the number but it was between 150-200 cases she has decided in her current position. The low number of cases reviewed by the S.C. seem to be a good thing.. A lousy judge making wrong decisions would have a very large numbers accepted by the Supreme Court for review and to be overturned.. Your logic completely fails with me.

---And why do you think "left-wings" as you call them are wanting this and are un-American. This a NUT not a left wing. You mean to tell me that only right wing people are true Americans.????? also if anyone thinks Iraq was an error that they are un-American. You seem to think leftwingers, Democrats and a bunch more groups are anti-American... You need a dose of reality... Just because you believe in one certain party does not mean you are the only true Americans... A whole of people disagree with you and they elected someone not in that party. .... and if he messes up they may put the other one back in... This is America... and both groups are American.... left/right ... Demo/GOP.... black/white....short/tall.... whatever ...that is extremely narrow minded and ignorant. ---You could argue they are right wing just as well. Where the Republic of Texas in Ft. Davis people right or left wing.... good grief. !!! They were NUTS just as this situation is. . Repeating this is a NUT.. not a Democrat, and not a left winger. The attitude that "I am more religious, more American, more family oriented, and even a better person" than the rest is still another reason they are getting less votes. It turns people off. Maybe you should READ THE ARTICLE. The person who asked to remove the flag was born in Africa.... send her back if it offends her.
-
---Maybe... but I doubt he would have been a Bush Liberal-Republican that taxed less, spent more, and doubled the National Debt which means he over-ran his budget more than the previous 42 President COMBINED. ....and now we have a screwed up economy. ---All the time claiming to be conservative... really???
-
WOW --- what a terrible misuse or distortions of statistics.... The Supreme Court only heard 5 of her cases and overturned 3..... That is ignoring the ones that were appealed and the appeal quickly denied because they were absolutely correct. Looking at it that way, it is down to less than 2%. --That is almost as bad as some an advertisement I heard that complained that half of the students in America are below average. (of course they are, what does average mean!! ) I teach stat. You need to analyze any stat you hear to see if there are any nutty flaws or misrepresentations.

---That comment really bothers me. I thought she was a good choice to start with. Any racial comment really turns me off. I understand what she is trying to say about the environment she came from but she should have been smart enough to leave the racial part out. That show bad judgement to me (for a judge) .... just as McCain showed terrible judgement (for a Presidential candidate) picking his VP --a woman from the wilderness who had never been to Europe or Asia (could not possibly understand life there) and had no understanding of large American cities and their problems either.. PS.. there are other issues in America besides the right to life one... the economy, international conditions, immigration, and the needless war are some. I hate abortion but I also hate pregnant 12,13, and 14 years olds, prostitutes dropping kids, unwanted and abused kids, and rape victims as well. Try teaching in a public school for awhile and maybe your attitude would change a bit. It is all abour making the best of a bad situation... I absolutely do agree with you on late term ones though... No one supports abortion, they just tolerate it in a bad situation.

Read this: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090526/pl_nm/...ourt_nominee_14 Rush opposes everything any Democrat does...especially eat. He would prefer they all starve and just disappear. Of course by noon the next day he would have picked out someone else to pick on so he can make his fortune on radio.
