Area Schools Ready For Anything - Tcu/smu (Dmn Article)
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
---Althought this is the football topic..... one should remember that when considering conference realignment, basketball and even other sports are considered also. We have done pretty well in basketball lately. We have nothing in the area of baseball. Football needs desparately to improve. -
It doesn't... but pointing out things change... what some once called socialist ideas are widely accepted now. Once the debate was over birth control pills and now that area that has changed to something else. --Maybe I live a sheltered life but had not heard that joke. Out here in West Texas, rowing is rarely an option, wading happens quite a bit though, including last night.....LOL.

---Is public schools, public hospitals, public fire depts, public ambulances (there weren't any where I lived as a kid, all privately owned in my town), food inspectors, banking inspectors, FFA, CDC, etc.... socialism... where does it stop?? Maybe we should just "trust" everyone to provide safe food and products to the population... maybe we should let each county build the roads they want and not support the interstate system either...that is obviously a socialist big-government idea. Where is the line??? Those ideas at one time in the past would have been considered socialistic. The police interfere with my freedom all the time... I can't drive 90 mph. ..that is government interference of my right to do as I want. ---There are some people who just yell LIBERAL or SOCIALIST if you dare disagree with them on anything or don't attend the church they attend and belief exactly as they do... [ Prohibition anyone?? ] That was big-government (also some religious groups) telling people what they could or couldn't do. ---Row vs. Wade is also a big issue now.... when I was in high school, they were a lot of groups that opposed ANY birth control and especially the pill. Some still do. Times change, as well as issues and attitudes.

---Making anything political of this event is stupid. ---Platforms in the Gulf have been there for years and during many administrations. This is even not close the Katrina ( no company had any responsibly for that, government was the one group most responsible for solving the problems that existed). The government could not get involved much with this one because.... they do not the expertise or equiptment to stop this type of disaster once it has occured. They have to let oil companies solve the problem. About all that could have been done is have better oversight on drilling platform activities (maybe). ... and that means any administration in the past sixty years. Personally I was surprised to learn that the ocean bottom was 5000 feet below the surface. Repairing any problems at that depth is unbelievable difficult. If you want to make something political of it... then someone should have forbid drilling in water of that depth... and again... that permission was apparently given a long time ago. One of the items mentioned lately on opening some areas to off-shore drilling was that the water was rather shallow... (whatever shallow means to them). --- I guess this again proves what is thought impossible is possible. BP claimed they thought this event could never happen. They apparently forgot to ask the question that math/science/engineers should always ask.... "WHAT IF".... and have some answer for it if it does..

--- I find it extremely odd that Hispanics here celebrate Cinco de Mayo. It is pretty much ignored in Mexico since it is just an anniversary of a battle against the French in 1862. I do understand some celebrating 16th of September which is really their Independence Day from Spain and is actually meaningful to Texas, and California as well. At that point we became part of Mexico instead of a Spanish territory. ---Cinco de Mayo for many of them is just an excuse to party and most have no idea what it means. I have asked them, most say Mexican Independence Day, which it isn't. ---The Flag incident seems very disgusting.. However, maybe it was not as reported, some schools will not allow any T-shirts to be worn and require shirts with collars ... maybe the fact that a flag was on it was not the point. I hope so. I have had kids in class claim I was anti-Christian when I asked them to put their book up (Bible) and get busy on their assignment. Some people tend to twist the facts, but even then sending them home seems a bit extreme unless they were trying to be disruptive about it. Their conduct would have been the issue, not the US flag on the shirt. ---If it was just about wearing a picture of a US Flag... then it is shameful.... that is the flag of THIS country, which is always acceptable.

Interesting Unt Perspective From A Cusa Thread

My Take On The Conference Fiasco!
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to meangreenbob's topic in Mean Green Football
Goldman Sachs was greedy..??? Wow, who knew..? and we all thought they worked for the best interest of their investors...!! ---The present Bowl locations and their "city" fathers don't want to lose that revenue.. Thus we have no payoff system. Personally I think they could still survive very well anyway ..... pick 8 teams for a playoff... and the rest can go to various Holiday Bowls.... Most bowls have no bearing on the determining the National Champion now anyway. Even now it is basicly down to one BCS Bowl game and the other bowl are rather meaningless except for school pride.... and future recruiting maybe. -
--St. Augustine is cooler, softer, doesn't head" out like burmuda, and can look ok longer without mowing... plus I have never gotten chiggers from it adn burmuda sometimes does. ...I know of a lot of people who itch, break out, and are allergic to burmuda...don't know of anyone alergic to St. Augustine. Of those two, I recommend St. Augustine. As for the neighbor... he can pour a small curb border if he wishes to prevent its spread. -- Burmuda will survive with very little water...and is in parks a lot because of that. But for anyone that spends any effort watering St.Augustine, it should do just fine and will easily overrun burmuda and many other grasses.

---Bush increased the national debt as much as the first 42 Presidents COMBINED ... and you still think that is conservative..???. get real..How can you defend that. The HUGE debt sparked the T-Party movement. That explains my comments. Obama may do awful... who knows..?? ..but he inherited a total mess with the DOW down 5000, bail-outs had started in banking, ... the auto industry about to collapse, and unemployment climbing rapidly.... You ignor all of that. I am not a big supporter of Oboma but Bush proved he was no financial conservative as he claimed. He was not what you want him to be ..... At least the DOW has rebounded 3000 points since the change in administrations... Some other things have gotten better as well but things including employment still are not to the 2000 levels yet. The sectors that my kids work in are all much better now including the oil industry here in West Texas. Why do do you defend an administation that screwed up so many things including putting us into a war against a country that had no WMD as claimed and no real threat to us [no international terrorist came from there either, they are from Yemen, Syra, Saudi Arabia (Ben Laden), Libya etc.] .... face reality ... Bush was no financial wizard or finacial conservative. Things were much worse when he walked out the door than when he walked in. -- It looks to me like you are again trying paint me as a big Obama supporter... not true... but I doubt he will do worse.... he has a very difficult situation to deal with..... No one can stop a speeding car in ten feet....it takes time.... he will need time to get things turned around... maybe he will or maybe he won't. It does no one any good to hope he fails...

--No... I was not at all opposed to Gitmo.... just how they ran it...in fact I would keep it open to some extent. ---Just do something with them... It should not take years to process the prisoners there... and then turn many loose when they were found to have done nothing. Even McCain opposed the water-boarding and much of what took place there .. most people just don't think that works and after a short time the info they might have known (if any) becomes obsolete and useless anyway. ... Finally they would just say anything just to get it to stop... I probably would and you too I imagine... even those who actually knew nothing. ---You constantly try to portray me much different than I am. I am financially conservative... Bush was a total liberal... doubled the debt.... First he should cut expenses and then taxes... not the other way around..... and what he did ran up the debt.... His actions increased the debt so much, and set off the T-party movement. The big problem now is we collect less taxes because of his some of his actions and because of UNEMPLOYMENT (they pay no or few taxes) So many of those who were paying capitol gains taxes on stock, sold at a loss then bought back at cheaper prices (which incresed the amount of their holdings actually) and are making making money as the stock prices go up but will owe no taxes until they sell... Meanwhile they are using those previous losses to offset what gains they now show on their few sales. [i am doing that to some extent and know more doing the same, just not worth 100's of millions as the super wealthy are] The debt will continue to climb for a while--- until the disasters of 2008 correct themselves and they can't use those losses to offset current gains. It will help when employment improves those are paying taxes again instead of unemployemnt checks (which also is a problem to the government now).

Allen's New 18,000 Seat High School Stadium
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to SUMG's topic in Mean Green Football
-- I went to an Allen game a couple of years ago... I was very surprised how small and how cheap their current stadium looked compared to those in West Texas ones... even we easily got tickets and a few seats were available . I still find it hard to believe their HS is double the size of most AAAAA schools. I guess there is a lot less to do out here so attendance and support is much more widespread and better percent-wise among students and the town. -- I would hate to think I taught there or had my kids go to school there. High school students I am sure just get lost in the "crowd" there because very few can participate in athletics and other schools activities and don't really connect to their school like most places. . Not my idea of education as it should be..... but is cheaper to have so many at one place ..if that is what they think the emphasis should be. -
---American citizen or not. He was in a "foreign country" fighting against the USA. .. Shoot him. I don't care which party our President is a member of ... he would be justified if he was activitively fighting us ... I would say he has forfeted his USA citizenship anyway. If he was in the USA ...totally different deal. Arrest and try him.

--Not sure I agree with you "entirely" on the best looking women part... but there sure are a lot of tall ones. I (slightly under 6 ft.) am not accustomed to seeing women nearly eye to eye and I was seeing a lot of them in Munich.... I will with partly agree you on the good looking part though.... Europe rarely has people (esp. women) who are greatly overweight...[thus your comment maybe]. They walk a lot and most of the meals in restaurants are such that you rarely walk out feeling stuffed. (just satisfied). We Americans walk less, eat more {hello to all you can eat Gatti types places] and have bottomless servings of soft drinks at many places now.. [wasn't true when I was a kid ]. ..I was in Italy during Spring Break and wearing a North Texas shirt part of the time..

Story On Nt's Walter Payton Man Of The Year
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to GreenBat's topic in Mean Green Football
Bump-- Not sure how many read this... They should... with the list of former winners. It was a great honor for Brian Waters and for North Texas... We now have two names on the list of winners in 40 years. It was originally called the "NFL Man of the Year". Apparently every team nominates one person each year and then an NFL committee selects one of those 32 names as "NFL Man of the Year" ... Kurt Warner was the previous winner -
--We are way of ahead of our time.... We had our field color matching our school colors long before it occured to anyone else... Again we are a ultra modern trend setter, ahead of the rest of the nation... . .

Unt Overlooked In Jjt Article
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to glick1980's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Really..?? That article sounded sort of like the old complement--- "She is really nice looking considering that she is a fat girl".. -
--I was surprized to learn (from announcers on 360) that NORTH TEXAS has scored a 3 point shot in every game for over 600 consecutive games.. that is every game for over 20 years..Wow.!! --Also near the end, every NORTH TEXAS player on the court had shot 80% for free throws for the year. That is as nightmare for a team trying to catch up by fouling. We led the belt in free-throw percentage this year.
-
--We just need to win, get in, and hope to be ranked at 14 or better. 14's do win at times. 16 give teams a nightmare to play in first round.... we should not be one of those considering there are some very weak conferneces out there. Fooey on the RPI at this point. ....WIN...
