UNT's Overtime Hero Against Denver
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
---Some just think the rules didn't apply to them because they are a "valuable" athlete. My wife has one in her class now [ high school ].. I am glad UNT enforces the rules and doesn't just hand out grades to them. Credits and degrees should mean something.. We all know and read about colleges that do all sorts of "illegal" things to keep them playing. -
--- Gingrich is a real puzzle to me and I think a GOP problem... He does come across as the the most informed of all GOP candidates but his history is completely opposite of the image that the GOP brags about.... family values .. and their claim to be the most moral party (which doesn't hold water either... maybe not worse but not any better). He is getting more votes than I expected but there are a lot of women who would vote for anyone but him or just not vote at all. Gingrich even left office because the GOP wanted to go after Clinton's infidelity... and he was far worse and their own. ---I thought it a bit odd how much Newt was bragging about when he was Speaker that the budget was balanced for four years [only time in recent history or past 30 years] but not mentioning that the White House was occupied by Clinton and that Gore was in charge of the Senate (VP). He was also claiming the national debt was under control then [ true ... it grew less than 2% per year in Clinton years... so much for the liberal spending claims ] That could come back to bite him later if he gets the nomination... that and the fact his wives couldn't trust him. ---Meanwhile Romney has been claiming that the private sector is the area that creates jobs and not government... which is true ... government can do a few things to encourage job growth but not create many of them. That comment could eventually haunt him as well since that is where the GOP has been attacking Obama. Having off-shore accounts is not going to help him any either.... they are obviously there to avoid paying more income tax... and he is paying 15% now which is less than what many pay that go to work every day. ---The extreme T-Party folks have pretty much disappeared... most people realize you can't maintain a decent government without collecting a reasonable amount of taxes... that is why we have the large debt now that has appeared since 2001... almost triple now of 2000 numbers and not getting better. Spending does need to be cut and most "earmarks' (very common from 2001 to 2009, Santorium was one of the worse ) need to disappear... but at the same time some taxes that were cut need to be reinstated... Those with high "earned income" are paying 30% or more while Wall Street types just pay 15%... that just isn't right. The rich are not being soaked as some love to claim. It amazes me that some here defend that.... they, the high income working people, are the ones being hit the worse .... not people worth 100's of millions. No problem with exempting an amount, maybe first $50,000.. ( retirement? income accounts ) for 15% but not the millions or 100's of millions that the super wealthy make yearly.. ..

Expanations (you asked): I. Like I said... Carter fit the Christian right more than the Liberal title you try to nail on him.... Explain how he was Liberal other than just saying it... II. Watergate: Remember when GOP Nixon [ "I am not a Crook" ] had to leave office.... a lot of people did not forgive Ford for pardoning him. Ford lost to Carter who then lasted one term. Also Carter was from the South, taught Sunday-School , was ex-military, and all of that that had some appeal also.. ----------- Abraham Lincoln...!!!! Good grief.... That was 150 years ago... most of our great-grand parents were not even alive yet........ Note-- the South succeeded from the Union prior to his inauguration and I would hardly say he fought tooth and nail to free the slaves... The Emancipation Proclamation took place in the third year of his Presidency... He did fight from the beginning to keep the union intact... Can we also bring up political scandals from that era also plus the terrible reconstruction the GOP did to the South and especially Texas...... You are using "sort of" dated issues. [ I had some Saxons in my family .... should I get upset how the Normans treated them after the Norman invasion in 1066. ] .. .Byrd..?? I see you omitted Strom Thurman (GOP) who actually had a little known illigit. black daughter and fought "tooth and nail" against civil rights bills. We both know why he and some others switched to GOP after they passed. ..
-
Lyndon Johnson thought so and predicted it: "We have just lost the South for a generation." http://www.quotesby.net/Lyndon-Johnson It is near bottom of page and can be found many other places as well. ____________ After that sort of wore off.. then the GOP started appealing to the Bible Belt on religious reasons... Huckabee, Santorum, Falwell, Pat Robertson (who ran), Backman, Palin, W.Bush, .. and dozens more..... including Perry now. Odd that it actually works somewhat... the GOP has many or more moral scandals than the Democrats.. Cain and Gingrich in this election alone.

Geeez--ok try this then... much better... same info. Prior to 2000 http://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/pd/histdebt/histdebt_histo4.htm After 2000 http://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/pd/histdebt/histdebt_histo5.htm Is the official US Treasury site good enough for you....??? Easier to read for you anyway. Comment on this being inaccurate then. The truth just isn't what you WANT it to be. The info is the same, stops at Sept 30... the end of fiscal years..not calender years as the other did...

ULALA uses six players to beat WKU
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Keith7's topic in Mean Green Basketball
It was against West Kentucky.... not Bowling Green .... the oddity of it all is that WKU fired the coach after that loss. he was cheated. -
---By today standards... Goldwater was a screaming Liberal. Then he was the ultimate conservative. He also thought government should allow women to have the right to chose and not meddle in personal matters. . --If what you said was true that he hates this country... why in world would he want to be president.... by the way he was not born in Kenya either. His parents were students at the Un. of Hawaii .... records would show that too. I don't agree with everything he has said... (absolutely not late term abortions for example if your comment is true) but so much is said about him that isn't true anyway... Islamic, Kenya, went to Medrasa, etc, .. and you seem to believe everything that you want to be true... even if it isn't. . ---LBJ was whole lot more liberal than everyone on your list... he supported and got Civil Rights laws passed.... [he thought minorities and women should be treated fairly like most humans] At that point the South went pretty much GOP. How in the world does Carter make that list... ??? He was even extremely religious and fits into the Christian Right more than Reagan or either Bush. As for financially conservative, Bush increased the national nearly 100% from about $5.5 trillion to nearly $11 trillion... Clinton era increased it less than 2% per year... check it out if you doubt me. Learn the truth... not believe some Rush Limbaugh type comment. There are better places but this will do. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_public_debt ..

---Most liberal President ???... not at all... Lincoln wanted change and freed slaves, women got to vote later under Wilson. ---Besides those labels seem stupid. Conservative to me means not going into debt and not spending more than you take in... but from 2001-2009 the debt increased more than ever before in American history. Meanwhile from 1993 to 2001 the debt increase by less than 2% per year.... How were they Liberals compared to the other figure.... in fact the only balanced budgets (several) since 1980 occured in that administraton. ---How is it conservative for the government to decide what is the best for a pregnant woman to do. I hate it but early on let the woman chose but later ..NO .. should have made the decision earlier... Am I liberal or conservative? Seems that a liberal would want government to make the decision (isn't that the Liberal definition) and Conservative to let the woman chose and not let government meddle in her personal decisions. I support man/woman marriages only.. Guess I am conservative again. Radical conservatives think Obama is Kenyan, I don't (Liberal?). Conservatives in 1920 did not want women to vote... too dumb... damn liberals thought they should be allowed to... I am Liberal again. Liberals wanted to change things and stop slavery.... Conservatives liked things just as they were... slavery allowed... ---Given all this which are you.?? Stalin was an extreme liberal and socialist... Hitler far from it, he was the extreme right or conservative ...only his kind were in the right and he was very pro-industrialist and even gave them Jewish slaves to work in their factories. He was against religions other than Christian, especially the Jewish one. A lot of Nazis escaped to the very Catholic countries of Argentina and Brazil... some in the church assisted many of them by portraying them as their "agents".. ---Extremes in both directions are bad.... and facts don't fit so-called definition many times.... The 2001-2009 liberal spending government doubled the debt [or equalled all 42 previous administrations combined ] I am confused how that was conservative as some love to claim. --Today conservative people oppose Romney... he is the wrong religion.. until 1960 no Catholic could get elected, wrong religion. Only five Presidents have names that aren't English or Irish... 3 Dutch names originating from old New Amsterdam or NY ( T.Roosevelt, FD Roosevelt, Van-Buren} one German (Eisenhower,a war hero) plus Obama.. Not a lot of diversity there. No French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Greek, Oriental, or Nordic names and there are a lot of them here. ..

---We now know why Perry would not participate in a debate for Governor. --He has met the enemy and it was him. (apologies to Pogo) Never has a political party had such a bad collection of candidates. The decent possibilities can't get the attention of the extreme right who want to cut more taxes and put us into an even worse national debt (the last cut did that but was supposed to help the economy...how did that work out? ) . I still am not completely convinced that the final nominee has appeared..... surely not. ---no I don't like taxes... I also don't like paying my electric bill but have to in order to have services.
-
--C.James might win the GOP nomination... remember this state elected Perry as Gov. (this years "Bum Steer" (again)) who has made so many insane comments that he is an embarrassment to the state including refering to American Revolution occuring in the 16th century. (1776 in 16th century?). I am sure Perry got the support of most educators in the state for this award [considering his knowledge and that he unemployed 1000's of them]. James might lose the TxTech vote though which Perry likely won..

SMU Thoughts on Jackson State vs North Texas
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I have heard of SMC... -
Are we interested in this quitter?
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Green Mean's topic in Mean Green Football
--Are people who change jobs ...quiters.???? ..no --If a kid thinks there is a better situation for him somewhere else... go. If he left in the middle of a season ..probably so. -
June Jones Stays at SMU because of Ministry
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
--Wasn't he involved in the ministry before HE APPLIED for the ASU job.??? Sounds like BS. --Thou shall not bear false witness.. [ ie. lie ] -
Would we REALLY be better off in CUSA
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to UNT86's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes.. but less attractive without Houston.... who gives rat about SMC (Schmuck U). -
Especially if he hires a lot of his old high school staff as assistants....especially on defense
-
---Likely because our most famous player... Joe Green .......and member of NFL Hall of Fame.... went to North Texas STATE University. At least that might explain national sports people doing it. When Texas people do it... they are just ignorant.... and should know better. I am sure that is the case with SMC (SMU?) people. --- Nationally they never say UTEP won the NCAA basketball Championship either.... Texas Western (same place) did.
-
---That view is applied to Pete Rose...
-
This is football ....??? As for winning... football is not the only sport.... our basketball record has been pretty good....better than football lately.
-
---Likely all of the coaches will be released or at least the ones that have been there a while... Paterno was a gutless wonder and would not do what was right... If he had the kids that have been abused since he learned of it would not have been abused. That is the ultimate tragedy, Watching him on TV he seems clueless about what he just did.. ---I once disliked him in his early years because of his constant complaining,(I am 60+) later I respected him because he didn't seem to "coddle' athletes and expected them to be students. This changes everything.. On TV it has appeared to me that he should have been gone a long time ago... it is not all about age BUT ... Bowden at FSU still seemed capable but J.P. has looked rather clueless for quite a while. I can't imagine anyone of character allowing this happen unless he was 'soft in the head". . ---The students (people) protesting at PSU need to think about what just happened to those kids and why it happened.... no action by those who knew...... gutless and no character. ..

BREAKING: NYTimes: Paterno is Out
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Football
--The fact that the "incident" happened is bad enough.... but to me the fact that those that learned of it did nothing is the real problem... Unfortunately for the alums their college just became a punch-line for many jokes and PSU lost a lot of respect nationally. -
BREAKING: NYTimes: Paterno is Out
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Football
Baylor administration had no knowledge of the events until it became public.... Penn State situation looks like a cover-up by officials or at least they knew and did nothing. No real comparison here. Bad year for a lot of big names.... Miami, Ohio State, and now Penn State (the worst) . USC hasn't fared too well either. Why Bill Cosby??.... he went to Temple ... it is in Pennsylvania but no real connection... after all we are 50 miles from SMU and we had nothing to do with that cheating mess. ..
