--I think will do well... he is pretty talented and he is intelligent apparently... just not THAT well.. not worth the price paid. he will need some talent around him and they gave up a lot of picks that could have been talent. I wonder if any of the three teams they jumped past would have taken him?

---A lot of college personal do have an option of investing into a stock fund or joining TRS [teacher retirement system ]... most I know regret doing the stock fund... Things like 2008 happen which can nearly wipe them out. For retirement you need not be so greedy and take the safer route. plus two... it is very possible to outlive your stock-fund money... S.S. and TRS you can't. S.S. should be never be considered your only retirement fund... you do that on your own as you said you wanted to do. Another feature in social security is some survivor benefits for your minor kids... my wife collected for years as the result of her father being a WWII casuality. Guess you also would need to take that insurance too if you opted out. ..

BULL SH**.... you have no idea how many hours are put in after 4:00 and how many week-ends we spent grading papers..filling out reports etc. sponsoring activities, etc. Even if it was 4 min per student (very conservative) per week grading etc. and I had about 150-160 students** that is 10 hours out of class and after school .. work time at school is usually preparation and other things...and honestly that usually didn't even touch the total... If it is such a great deal.. quit your job and go do it.... none of my three kids became teachers... they knew what it meant. ---I am retired from public schools but teach some college classes and just spent today 2-3 hours at my wife's school this morning preparing for her Latin banquet tomorrow night... I was also there yesterday afternoon a couple of hours then too.... This is not unusual***.. there goes another evening and several more hours.... by her and me. You are clueless... plus it is an extremely stressful job for most of us... try being around a few 100 kids every day and all that they do..... This afternoon I am covering some friend's math classes (I teach math, only HS math sub they have) while they are going to have to be out (school business).. They will have to grade all those assignments when they return ... on their own time...... You are completely clueless. ---It is a job that if you are ill... you can't just walk out the door...someone has to be there... and you have to have something for the students to do... most just go or stay, ill or not. On most jobs you can just leave... not in school ... can't just leave a classroom with no one up front and with all teh pressure from these state tests... the student don't need to waste any time or we catch hell for low scores... more pressure. . ** most have more now since the Gov. Perry cuts took place in the last session. ...now less teachers.. and the same or more students walking in the door ***Next week we get to spent our entire Saturday night at a HS prom making sure nothing bad happens.. does your job have you do all of these things.?? *** She is still filling out college recommendations, scholarships forms, etc. ..on her own time.. after that great 4:00 PM quiting time you mentioned... many have parents like you who thinks she quits at 4:00 and never even thank her. I have helped students in way they never knew about... talking to various people including one of mine who became an FBI agent.. They random selected me to interview about him.... what I said fit what he had claimed, he was hired. Others knew I knew the person and asked about them before hiring them (all after 4:00 PM). Obviously no thanks there, they never knew what had happened. A few didn't get hired because of my comments about them.... you never know when something may come back and bite you or help you. ..

---Absolutely.... social security is NOT welfare as ultra conservatives yell about... everyone of us paid for it.... and it is ours to collect... rich or poor. ---Some people die too soon to collect anything... some live an extremely long time and collect more than they paid in and what interest would have accumulated. Like most insurance, some collect a lot, some don't. . It was never even meant to be a complete retirement package but be enough to feed and house people somewhat in their old age without living with their kids or on the streets [as is the case in some countries]. ---Reminds me of some people who were wanting to take teacher retirement money to balance the budget.... That is not the state's money, it belongs to us that paid into it. [ the state of Texas doesn't even match it 100%... and Perry et. al. have even been cutting state contributions. ( another reason people in education don't care for him or them ). Most companies have a plan that match employee contributions and it isn't their money either [Enron with Wendy Gramm, Phil Gramm's wife and on their board of directors, thought so.. they stole it leaving former employees of the company and companies they took over with nothing in retirement ]. That was the real tragedy of Enron.... the people who could no longer work and lost their income and insurance.. not the lost jobs.

1. That is the County's problem to verify it. 2. Its confirm the person standing there is probably that person.... BUT only ONE fraud case since 2004 means it doesn't seem to be a problem that need to be corrected.. 2. I do expect them to be swayed (individually) by their religious upbringing.... I just don't want peachers standing in front of a church telling people who to vote for [it happened in my former hometown] and preachers on TV doing the same. Do you want prohibition again.??. Some churches support it [one preacher of a huge church in my town constantly condemns it, never had one drink, (so he says) and pretty much thinks you are headed for Hell if you have one**. . Catholics priests want birth control eliminated... I could go on... The Nazi political party did not want the Jewish religion even in their country... same with some here now.. Where is the limit.? I am not saying I don't want Christians in government... just not religous fanatics that want their "brand" of religion imposed. How about the guys in El Dorado or some other odd group. Keep the government and religion apart... with neither trying to control the other, after all it is in the Constitution with no mention of Christinity, Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, or any group.. Heard Michael Reagan even say on radio that if you are Christian you will vote only Republican.. [ doesn't sound like separation to me] Likely as many Democrats are Christian as Republicans... Carter even taught Baptist Sunday School. Reagan almost never attended church. Amazes me that Perry (who constantly mentions religion) supports gambling which preys on the stupid and often poor... . **once went there for several years ..left... changed churches... before this one showed up.

Been in any schools lately... ---I taught in public schools for 30 years and 35 years in colleges [obviously an overlap... I remember that stupid TCAT test we had to take and only two out of about 1500 in my district failed it... and they were from some very poor excuses for colleges ( won't name ). Your comment is crazy. ---Likely two things have reduced teacher quality SOME. ONE: In the 40's 50's and somewhat 60's... smart women almost had to teach since they could not get jobs in business, engineering, and even law or as Doctors... Sandra Day O'Conner graduated 2ed in law school... and had no job offer.. no one was hiring women lawyers. Those smart women taught in classrooms for decades. Now many are elsewhere. TWO. I teach mathematics (still and when I graduated math engineering jobs did not pay what they do now and there wasn't as many as there are in this tech-crazy world. My two engineer sons made on their first day as much as I was my last one in public school... A lot of the best will not go to education anymore... especially males......I wouldn't now either too much pay elsewhere..it is all about salary.. You get what you pay for... Women are a bit different, many like summers off to take care of their personal kids. Raise saleries and things would change. Still there are a lot of very good teahers out there... Bad ones don't last long usually.... not where I was anyway. ---The biggest problem with education now [remember I have not been in public classroon in a few years and have nothing at stake in this] is all about homes ... many that don't speak English much.. too many from single parent homes who ae never home and sometimes kids with unlievable poor homelifes.. The big problem is so many of those homes give no support to assist education. ---To blanket say teachers are ignorant and stupid is demonstrating exactly that about what is going on.. Education could be better**... but pay elsewhere and opportunity for women elsewhere has removed many of the better oenes but not all. I haae no idea what you did for a living but I am sure I am an expert in your job as you are in education. Just going to school doesn't mean you understand the other side of the desk. ... I can use a computer... doesn't mean I could design one or write software.. which is exactly what my sons do. Since you are such an expert on education go sub for a while and actually teach.. not just babysit. In fact try doing a few low level classes and test your manhood. I had one with five kids who later werecharged for murder... plus two murder victims [all in one room}. You should be tough enough to handle that that since you have all the answers.. plus I expect you would make great students of them. Every hardened criminal walked through our classrooms and we had to deal with them. **after Perry's education cuts last time many HS math classes now have 40+ students and PE class here often have 100 kids per teacher... that is not even safe.. Might work with motivated college students but not in HS. ----Go ahead and trash teachers, give them unbelievable conditions to work in.... after all they are too stupid to understand. [so you think...] _________________ GIVES THOSE DETAILS OF HISTORY BS .. I AM SURE YOU BEING AN EXPERT ON THIS YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO LIST MANY... ..

---You are absolutely right.... one case since 2004... and an ID would not have stopped it. Soooo--What is the need for an ID in Texas.... ---It actually sound like a great idea but after you look at what it does especially in remote places where there is no close place to get one (no drivers license offices) or/and to people who just don't drive or anymore... then I see problems.. Even if the ID did not have to current but an expired licence for example which obviously shows the person is who they say they are would be acceptable... then I would have less objections. It appears to be an effort to deny some from voting because fraud doesn't seen to be a big problem [i work elections] The big hole for fraud could be mail-in ballots in which no election offical watches the voter cast votes. Who knows who actually marks them.?? Hypocritical: Both sides are some .. but the craziest one to me are the ones that doesn't want any interferance from the government in religious matters but at the same time they want "their" religous guys to be in charge and doing things as they believe. Government should not control religion and religion should not control government.... that is why that was put in our Constitution. Our founders saw what happened in Protestant Reformation and even at Salem and other places here [Christian] and now we see what that does in the Middle East [islamic] .. It is not a good thing to mix them. Religion is reponsible for more wars than any other cause... Even WWII had religious overtones... note: a mostly Christian country tried to exterminate the Jewish religion ... ..

They traded with St. Louis to get the #2 pick [ supposedly Robert Griffin III ] at QB. The cost: Their first Rd or 6th pick of this year.... Their second Rd pick or 39th pick in this draft.... Their first Rd pick in 2013 .... Their first Rd pick in 2014 .... St. Louis robbed them in my opinion .... and likely didn't need that QB. This trade moved the Skins past the Vikings, Browns and Bucs and put the Rams behind those three ( and may still get the player they want ) and getting a lot of high picks. Looks to me like the Rams made out like a bandit....

--- When you sign a man without many principles [see Atlanta} ... you get a man without principles.

--- If this is actually legit... the guy did everything wrong at least in Texas..... ONE: No cameras or recording devices including cell phones out (supposedly none on) are allowed in polling place.[ in other words how does this film exist?? ] We have took and/or ran people out that had one exposed or on. You don't vote in Texas without an ID which includes the voter registration card. There are others.... just the conversation is ridiculous and then giving him a ballot. There is always a voter "school" prior to the election for Texas poll workers.... even if you have done it for years... If that man violates those rules.... who is to say that requiring a photo ID would make any difference. He is just incompetent... [ well... if this is actually real and not fake deal using some copy of registration rolls or something else after the real election... ] ---There a lot of "crap" out there on the internet that is fake... this may be one of them. The phones were turned off and taken but were given back after voter had voted ... not kept. ..

--- No doubt.... more schools is more expensive than than one mega sized one. They should also be able win more in athletics**.... but that is not what education is all about and I love football. Schools need to be large enough to offer a lots of programs and a good curriculum but not so large that kids just get lost and don't really feel part of the school and should be able to find some activities to do. I have a son that lives in Allen and claims that he would never live there if he had a kid about to enter high school.. Apparently the band is so large they do about nothing but shuffle around a bit. --Repeating .. Check out very successful people, most had the opportunity to be leaders in HS and often attended smaller schools and many are from smaller towns.... far beyond what you would expect,... especially considering the population of the two groups. ** I am sure a lot of the kids that earned athletic schloarships from my old high school [brownwood} would have never even played in Allen or some other of the mega sized ones, they just were not large enough at sophomore level and would have never continued. During the time I was school, we regularly defeated schools 2-3 times larger. Size doesn't automaticly mean wins. Southlake is rather small for AAAAA, they seem to win a lot.
-
--- I hate these mega sized schools... They are so few opportunities for kids to be involved in activities. There are a lot of kids there that would do well in activities other places and feel more worthwhile... I actually prefer large AAA and smaller AAAA size schools. Look around and see where a lot of the most successful people came from.... Example... who was the last President that attended a large high school or even lived in a very large town. I spend 30 years in public schools..

Texas Voter ID Law

---I used one when I was a student at least once..... I hear that a lot of rest home residents use them. They are not as rare as you seem to think. In fact I heard of a case of someone going to a rest home and having them request them.... I think some folks got after them for doing it.... afraid they would be highly "influenced". The problems are not at the polls with identifications but elsewhere if there are any, places that can't be monitored well. -
Really... just why was the Budget being balanced the six years prior to the tax cuts.... the capital gains were 20% then... still not excessively high.... and after it went to 15%.. the debt begin to climb... Pipeline... I could be wrong but isn't part of the Northern part in Canada.. He can't approve that part or even the connecting part until they get their part done.. .
-
--Well I do blame Congress [remember the GOP controled both houses for the first six years and still one house now] and they were the one that passed the tax cut in 2001 (which then was signed) then did not reverse itself when we invaded Iraq in order to pay for the war expense. Always before in America, taxes went up in a wartime situation... as for Bush he doesn't get all the blame... but he did sign those bills... and he did urge Congress to invade Iraq to rid it of WMD ... which have never been found. The last years of that administration....?? Not one year then was the budget balanced.... it went up every year... go look if you doubt me. It still is going up... Congress will do nothing... one controls one house and the other one the other... can't get anything done. The budget spending never tripled... I agree he should have gone after a balanced budget more but tax revenue was way down due to 2008 economy drop [unemployment and lost stock value of 2008 will do that] ... that made things even harder to accomplish and efforts was made to stop the recession from getting worse and other problems... it did... just hasn't improved as much as hoped. A split Congress isn't helping any.

pipeline.... it has now been approved... after the changes. Gulf drilling... It is taking place.... it was temporary.... until they were sure that better controls were in place. so only oil people mattered... not recreation and fishing etc. My mother [far from poor, even owned taxed ranch land] did not pay income tax her last few years (retired).... in her case it was mosly about the interest rate falling so much that she no longer earned enough to put her over even with her social security payments..... Just remember now $500,000 in CD money now earns often less than $5000 .... which puts a lot of rather well off retired people are not paying income tax.. There are a lot of odd explanations for people not paying income tax .... example if they have the money in Municipal bonds... no tax there either ( I have some). It does seem strange and maybe not entirely fair that so many don't pay ... but a lot of the very old, very young, and very poor just don't have to pay because of low income or income not taxable.. includes Roth IRA money too.. Taxes... am I in... ?? Those making almost nothing plus the retired should not be hit very hard or at all ..... 15% (or whatever) of their income may mean a lot to them ... but 15% of mine is not a big deal. I am sure 15% to Buffet means about nothing. The retired and often the poor do pay taxes .. property tax (perhaps as part of their rent), sales tax, gasoline, and a lot else... just not income tax. Some argue federal drilling is down because it is not needed because of oil on privately owned land and that it being held in reserve and not being used up. It actually does make some sense to think of future generations. . As for Midland, not unique.... check EVERY oil place in America... same thing going on... all about the price of oil.. When is enough enough....??? When they pay about the same rate as those going to work every day and not about half. It isn't about the amt , it is about the rate. ..
-
---Your comments are so far off...... The USA is producing more oil than ever before [Midland Newspaper, oilfield town] and importing less than than in many years... maybe decades. The situation is insane out here... to say he opposes drilling is crazy... maybe some projects but not in general. Opposes ALL energy development... that makes zero sense... we need it... plus West Texas is now full of wind generators, many constructed in past 3-4 years, and a lot of the electricity is headed for Dallas-Ft. Worth. The pipeline veto was all about the route not about having a pipeline... ---Yes drilling was shut down in the Gulf... there seems to be some justification.... one big mess and BP was not the least bit honest about how much was escaping... It has resumed. How many jobs were lost in OTHER industries.. tourism, fishing etc. when the well blew up... You forgot to mention that one. I have no idea where you got that last statement..... Everything out here in West Texas oil filed states the opposite. It may be right about the Gulf a bit....but check out West Texas and North Dakota and the TOTAL in the USA... it is up a lot. it is a lot cheaper to drill on land than in water 1000's of feet deep, that likely explains a lot of it. The Nuke disaster in Japan has slowed that down... people are very uneasy about that. ---My objection to the 2001 tax cut is completely about the ultra wealthy paying 15% which is less than most of us are paying on much of our income .. likely you as well..... and you seem to think that is fair. Check how much you would pay on an additional $100... likely 25-35%, I am. ---I teach stats... your stat about 16% paying 34% is likely correct... but so many may pay about nothing... let us us look at who they are: the extremely poor, the physically impared, often retired people who are no longer working much if any, and even people just out of high school [maybe still in high school] filing and earning very little... My kids as college and high school students did file tax forms to get refunds but paid about nothing as they went to school... This (a lot not paying) is a rather odd stat about so few paying because of who is included. It isn't exactly as it first appears. ---Apparently you have no problem with paying 25-35% on the top part of your income while those earning millions on Wall Street just pay 15%. Not picking on Romney... because he just did what was legal but he paid 16% on his millions made ... mostly investment income... he wasn't going to work everyday which likely you are. ... ____ Carter...??. good grief...!!. I lived in Midland then ... we had a huge oil boom going on out here mostly as the result of OPEC and the Iran situation... You must not been alive then... it was crazy out here.... even more than now. Even W. Bush lived here then and was in oil business. You need to check real facts. Whatever sourse you are using is totally false. Besides very little drilling existed in Reagan era as oil companies went broke due to drop in price as OPEC opened up the pipes again. [ includes Gulf Oil, a giant ] I am sure very few projects were axed for several years... few had any projects.. ---

The truth hurts**. and as long as those tax cuts are still there.. the debt will continue court of control.... the President doesn't pass laws... just signs them or vetoes them. I am concerned... nothing is being done in Congress... ** ok.. whose administration deserves the blame then for the debt doubling , and the economy collapsing.... pick one...
-
Yeah that makes sense ... but I think he thought he was insured.... and then after the tests came back he wasn't. Plus he knew he wasn't too far from medicare... I just don't know details that well... He was the father of one of my son't friends... --You are really hung up on everyone that disagress with you being a sociallist and liberal... pay attention. The last administration was the most liberal spending ever with the budget.... despite claiming to be conservative.... What is your explanation for what happened ??? ... [running up the debt as much than all presvious 200 years combined.. that was conservative??? ] Granted they were religious conservatives ... just not financial. ..
-
---That was one part of the 2001 tax cuts that really need to be made... estate taxes.... There wee a lot of people who owned businesses and even agricultural ones that would have to sell off part or all of the business just to pay the inheritance taxes..... My BIG objection to the 2001 cuts was all about the Wall Street guys who make millions paying only 15% while most of us are paying more than that on any ADDITIONAL income we may earn by going to work [maybe not on total bill since that includes the standard deductions etc.} If you earn $68,000 or more aftwer deductions, any addtional income above that is taxed at 25% or more... maybe 35% if you really earn a lot. . ---Besides that.. the inheritance taxes of people who owned smaller business often caused them to close or downsize the business to pay the taxes and even put people out of work... ---I have never said I totally support the health bill... but a lot of it needs to be in place as protection against insurance companies.. Check out the state of Texas... we have the highest home and auto insurance in America..... and guess who lobbies excessively and contributes a lot to state campaigns..? Some people just need to pay attention and quit being so political party blind.... Plus some claim conservative and they must mean religous conservative because their voting actions sure don't mean financial conservative. See the debt as of 2009. UNTGirl-04 comments make a lot of sense.. ..
