---Stickers such as what Ohio State uses on college helmets seem so immature to me... reminds me of kindergarden kids getting stars for "whatever". If I had the power to decide we would use some form of a N across a T .... much like the logo what the alumini association uses. [ shown on above post ] I do wish we would be consistent like many colleges have been. I even liked the script over what is pictured in the article.

Conference change & OOC scheduling
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to ntmeangreen11's topic in Mean Green Football
. it appears that NMSU is going to have a lot of dates open ... their conf has just about folded. As for SunBelt... no more than one.... we don't need to be like SMU with our nose in the air. . -
Louisiana Tech's C-USA secret out of the bag
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
. Sort of an insulting and classless article... refered to Belt as "the Belch".... You don't get ahead by insulting others. The Original WAC destroyed itself by getting too large and allowing too many schools in that should not have been there... then the originals left to form the Mountain West. There is a lesson to be learned there. . -
. ---Agree ..... although I do somewhat understand the UTSA thing because of.... the huge market ... enrollment size ( 30,000+) .... and no competing pro teams in NFL or MLB ...both of which play in the football season. They were selected purely on potential and San Antonio is starved for some type of home team other than the Spurs. . I just hope that what we are hearing is what is actually happening. I am a bit surprised UTSA jumped TxState which I think is better known... but TxState hasn't been that successful even in the Southland and that hurt them . ..
-
Slow down..... We need to be in and playing first..... we have people wanting TxState, NMSU, MTSU, WKU, LaLa, App. State and others in this league.... It would be an insane size. We don't even get a vote yet.
-
.. Who do they play for.? ...hahaha I would hope it would be a whole lot better.... These students are becoming the most educated people in America ... but I am amazed at time what some don't know... I teach college clases... I almost fell over when a few years ago in a summer class I had a girl not know the Cowboys was a football team (just graduated from HS) I had used the name in a stated problem and she had no idea [ American not foreign student ] . A student from NT sat beside her and really gave it to her.. funny... She wasn't all that good at math either. D... maybe. Bet she had a short college career.

ODU may not be done: MTSU could be replacement?
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
On the field success..?? maybe /maybe not.... go look where the most succesful college teams and large crowds are... they usually are not competing with an NFL team in the neighborhood.... Also run down the list of NFL teams.... very few have a notable college football team nearby. Tampa may not be huge but USF is huge.. 47,000 .. UT/A&M huge. 2010 stats: USF -- 40,700 avg attendence. TxTech --57,000 much smaller town, about 30,000 students. SA is four-five times larger than Lubbock. even then USF may be a bit unusal, lots of retirees in neighborhood with time and money. . Same with Un. Miami.... 52,000. .. as for on-field success at Miami.... give me the money....hahaha Look at 2010 list... of 30 largest avg attendence... I don't see a one with a close NFL team. ( 2011 not posted ) http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/public/ncaa/pdfs/2011/2010+national+college+football+attendance . -
ODU may not be done: MTSU could be replacement?
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
They don't have the above... a million folks nearby [ S.A. is in the top 10 cities in population, and with no NFL or other D-1 college in the close neighborhood ] -
ODU may not be done: MTSU could be replacement?
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
PLEASE ... not Mountain West... as stated no Texas schools and no increased interest in the Texas media and doubt it would increase attendence all that much over now... It may or may not contain better teams but it is not a good deal for us. I like the exposure in the deep South over the in Mountain Time Zone plus there are a lot more people in the South. CUSA contains a lot of teams that will attract fans and I would rather play against and see.. As for Old Dominion... it is not an unknown university and has a good basketball history and I think well respected, academics and athletics... other than that I have no oppinion... we don't live near there and really don't know what locals think about it. As for MTSU, I have met people from Tenn. that have more academic respect for it than the Univ of Tenn. WKU... I know nothing about it except it has a very competitive basketball history. We aren't CUSA yet and don't get any vote either. UTSA... it could be a ka-ching or a ka-splatt. But it is in a huge starved market..... no NFL, no MLB, no other D-I college. It has done rather well with its basketball program, football is still an infant. It is also rather large ... over 30,000 students and a lot of future alums. . -
Not to mention the opening ceremonies of Olympic games... which a lot of people seem to watch in person and on TV. Even the Super Bowl goes crazy on their half-time show. Likely most guys do go mostly based on the football game and maybe the overall excitement [ band, dance teams, do contribute to that ] ..... but that isn't so true of the kids, wives and some others. They like all the entertainment. TxTech does an extremely good job with their Veteran's day halftime.

---Your wife is no sports fan or reads the news much..... Favre is from So. Miss, TULANE??..holy moly, ever read about the NO hurricane, it went under water and was in news regularly , Marshall, must not be a fan of Matt McC , he stared in a movie about Marshall and the famous plane crash.. also Randy Moss was from there, and I could go on... , maybe not UNCC but at one time very good in BB., Ask her if whe has ever heard of Stanford, Rutgers, Gonzaga, Kent State, Syracuse, or Vanderbilt .... or if so ... name roughly where they are or something about them. [ my TxTech grad wife would know maybe all of them including the above ones ] A lot of those CUSA teams are well known by most people especially college grads. .

I still cheer for the old MVC (Missouri Valley) teams I saw when at UNT when they appear on TV and I will hope the current SunBelt teams have good luck also. ... thanks for the comment.

CBS Reports 6 new schools to CUSA
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to KoldBeer's topic in Mean Green Football
Jumping Sam Houston over MTSU or WKU (for basketball) seems a stretch That is a Southland member [without a large metro area] over a Sunbelt one that is quite respectable. -
--- This a two way win..... opponents that our fans and alums know will bring more of our people in. As for for their fans..... they will bring more than Troy etc. but also there are a lot of these CUSA alums that live in the Dallas area that may come... not so of Troy etc. --- Now we just need to win a lot more games... that helps as well. ---We are now back to where we were in the late 70's... We had been in the conf with Cincinnati, Louisville, Memphis, Tulsa, etc. and then Fry gambled on being admitted to the SWC and lost (thanks to SMU efforts) and worse the NCAA forced us to drop back and need to join the Southland when the large conferences just about did in the smaller conferences and independents. Lamar and UTA, and West Texas (for a while) just quit football as did a lot other schools nationwide..

CBS11 BREAKING: UNT to CUSA (FRIDAY!)
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Football
- ---At this point I don't even want SMU on our schedule...... [ fooey on them...]. They need us a lot more than we need them... ---Their Big East conference opponents will furnish them no sizable amount of fans in attendance. They will need local Texas area teams as non-conference opponents to increase their gate revenue. --- Let them rot for all the things they have done to us.. I was an NT alum when they lobbied to keep us out of the SWC which put us into a bad way and we had to join the the Southland as nothing else was available. A lot of schools dropped football [ UTA, Lamar, West Texas, Villanova, etc. ] because of what the NCAA then did afterwards .. it has taken us 30 years to just get back where we were then.. we had been a MVC conf. member with Tulsa, Memphis, Cincinnati, Louisville, etc. and Fry gambled on a SWC bid and we lost... largely because SMU opposed us. --- SMU can just rot. They likely kept us out of CUSA earlier too... who knows.. Play anyone but them now. We don't need them. Good luck to the remaining SunBelt teams.. Beat those BCS teams... I will always be your fan. -
Texas State Fans discuss move to Belt
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
--- For years SWT or Tx State was member of the old Lone Star conference which is pretty much smaller schools..McMurry, Howard Payne, Tarleton, Sul Ross etc. . Then they moved UP to the Southland . (we were pretty much forced down). Only lately have they really improved greatly in athletics and otherwise I think in the eyes of most people. I credit a lot of their growth (and ours) on the fact that A&M and UT have tightened up enrollment and don't seem to want to get any larger... that has kicked a lot of students in their and our direction and to UTSA. Until the last 10 years I can't remember them ever playing a D-1 school. Their enrolment is quite large now 30,000? and larger than TxTech even. ---I don't think we have an SMU type attitude... SMU's big problem is they don't want a large state school competing with them in Dallas area for attention... they know that would be a losing deal for them . They try to kick us down as much as posiible... Tx State is very little threat to us... recruiting some... but not much otherwise. -

Texas State Fans discuss move to Belt
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
--- They are just now getting a chance to be a D-1 school and they are looking down on those that have been there for a long time.!! Wow. Plus it appears that they just lost to UTSA for a conference bid they wanted which has only one year of football behind them and is many decades newer as a university. --- Also sort of says something about their academics if that is their typical irrational thinking. I guess this is like telling a girl she is cute and then she thinks she is Miss America and too good for you.. Maybe most of them aren't so nutty. I'm a bit surprised they are getting a D-1, it sure isn't about about good they have been in sports lately but more about size and location. Sam Houston has done far better on the sports field. -
--- UTSA looks like a rather dumb choice at first glance ...but... San Antonio is one of the 10 largest cities in America...has no NFL, has no ML Baseball, just the Spurs in pro sports . ... which play very little during the college football season. They are starved for a local sports team to support in the fall.....and only UT and Texas State are in easy driving distence but neither are really associated with San Antonio.... Given a bit of time, UTSA could be a very interesting add. ...

UTSA to C-USA - CBS Sports article
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
Maybe you are right nationally ( at least short-term)..... ..... but it puts us in a league some Texas teams which should get us more attention in Texas media... That is help for recruiting and attendance at home games.. or at least I think so. We would absolutely get more visiting fans, more excitment at games, and maybe more UNT fans because of interest. I say go for it. -
You expected me (us) to take insults without fighting back.. that is not what men do....maybe in your world and that is what you would do. Quotes: 1. PLUM: "And some by teachers who can't even pass basic tests to continue to be teachers. 2. YOU: Just curious about something. Are teachers really underpaid? If you figure what they are making per hour based on getting off at 3:30-4:00 every day. 3. YOU: "You fail to mention the fact you get 12 weeks off for summer" 4. You: "Now I have to say you are a complete dumbass." 5. You "Dude, you have major mental problems." _____________ All are ridiculous: I have more calculus/physics/math hours than you could even think about taking.. My sons are engineers, one owns patents, the other a lawyer as well.. and a lot of my education friends have math, biology, physics, chemistry, foreign language, and other degrees that I suspect you and Plum might have a lot of trouble passing. You claim to be a mortgage person... two of the many college math classes I teach has to do with amortizations, loans, investments, annuities, stats, etc. I TEACH your job and other jobs such as financial planners as to how it all really works. ...and no I have never worked on Christmas day, Christmas or the day after and neither has any of my sons or daughter... and I will enjoy June and July fishing, golfing, traveling etc. so who wins there?? ... not you. I will think about you going to work those days at 6:00 and getting home at 9:00..(as you claim) Plus I still eat and live well. I am not unusual among educators... Most of us have degrees of the same difficulty or more difficult college degrees than you and Plum likely have. ---I have not called you any names.... none... I been a bit insulting but then again who started that ?? Apparently that is the type of person you are accustomed and doing and hearing it. As for clueless.. I doubt you would have a prayer in any calculus class or beyond which I teach since you can't count to 12... You know when school stops and starts and even ignoring all the workdays in between there are not 12 weeks. ---Every person in education should feel very insulted by your and Plum's remarks...[at least he had the sense to not continue to argue) You sound very frustrated and envious. You have no idea how many former students have walked up to me or written me what I meant to them and how it changed them. Do you get those remarks from anyone.???? Read Dilbert: It is a cartoon where tech people make fun of some business majors who are clueless. [ I am directing this to only one person ] Q.E.D. [ if you have any idea what that means.. ] .. Pardon my typing.. again no spell check on this machine (at a school)
-
--- Plum did and you piled on saying we were way overpaid. --I do probably understand why your marriage (or marriages) failed even if you don't.. you likely showed her (your teacher-wife) and her profession no respect and she had enough of you. I do believe in doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.. When you show no repect for others then you wish to be treated the same way. So I did. ---Yes I misspelled about 15 or more words.. just typed (very irritated with your oppinion of educators ) and never even spell checked or even re-read what I wrote.. it isn't about my spelling but about typing. I just didn't care and doubted you would know the difference anyway with your attitude toward education..
-
--You are so uninformed... during the year they put in insane hours or most good ones do... and they don't get 12 weeks off in the summer as you claim... that demonstrates how little you understand things. No I didn't expect to earn as much as some .. but things did change as lot.. mathematics/engineering majors did not earn as much when I graduated compared to education... likely because the world was so tech oriented. You claimed teacher are so dumb they casn't pass simple test.. go back and read what you wrote... that is what started all of this..Your insane arogance. My sons are engineers and one even has a law degree besides. Teachers are not fools are stupid as . that is whast this asll about.. Likely you just HATE your ex-wife and claim this.. you ae clueless or bvery bitter. i don't know. ASnd yes Many of us do find other jobs in the summer and travel a lot... In the school where my wife works there are multiple millionairs... some are spouses and somet don't want to work year around and like to enjoy life and not put time in every week of the year.. [ I know you doubt that, but it is true ] You just have no clue. You likely are a money hungry guy that will miss your kids growing up and have already gone through at lest one wife. . It is all about money in your life apparently . --one of the most revealing monnet to me happened several years asgo in Madrid when I was with some of my wife's students and some of the kids were complaining that they neve say their fathers much and that they rarely went anywhsee with them... Meanwhile I was enjoying my life and waslking the streets of Madrid with their kids. ---Don't trash educators .. We are not near as stupid and dumb as you indicate.. You and Plum have no respect for education or those of us who work there.. We are far from overpaid as well... I have no idea what teachers you know [ maybe your wonderful ex-wife and bums apparently ] but your comments are crap. Most work very hard and put in long long hours when school is in session... You are demonstrating a lot of ignorance about education and about a few other things including common manners. . -- I advise to not make those comments if you ever have a parental confernece... I would work to find find things work on your genius kids paper and cut them no slack. ... No respect for me then no respect for you. ....as you see. ..
-
Note the highlighted part.... and no I don't get summers off... I taught the summer at a college...12 weekds... holy cow.. count... schools don't start in September anymore. i remember years we finished in early June and was back at work in middle August.. Learn to count..... PLUS Remember I only make half of what you do... haha ..So you put in twice the hours I do... if not you are extremely overpaid if I am earn only half... You are so clueless.. There are a lot of ways to make money... I also own ranch-land and quite a bit of oil stock... ..do you do either...hahaha .?? Bye Love your profile picture .. it fits... a clown.... My picture... he was my grandfather... a Texas cattle rancher.. I honor him with his picture. Where have you been in the past 12 months for fun ... I have been to Greece, Italy, Alaska and Costa Rica... My older son is sailing the Caribbean now and my other son just got back from Kuala Lampour (job related) I am so poor and dumb and lazy. You are clueless. ..
-
---How many times did I do paper-work until 1-2:00 AM... I can't count. Granted I did take a break after class. and would start a hour or two after supper. PS. I'm guess if you did all of that yoyur salery was a lot higher than a HS teacher. My sons in the semi-conductor business doen't even do that very often and I am not about to tell you what they make but it is several TIMES what I made. PS: I got home last night at 8:45 .. class. There are a lot worse jobs ... but it is not what you try to make it out to be. Again if it is quit ---and do it for a living.. Your ex-wife probably lied to you about a lot of things....hahaha.. I see she lasted 10 years ... why if it was so easy.? Are you going to watching the NFL draft tonight... I can't .. I will be assisting my wife at the Latin banquet and might get home at 10:00. if your friends thought it was a "cushy" job.... they were doing a poor job. Hope they quit.
