  1. This whole deal is stupid.. [ so much for the freedom of speech.]
  2. Demarco Murray is #1 now... Felix is #2... Could help Dunbar make the team or at least be on proctice squad in case F elix is not "glued together" that well. ..Interesting bit is Ced Benson from Texas is out there on no team.
  3. Mine is: This should serve as proof positive that the actions that got SMU in hot water with the NCAA in the 80s are long gone if players cannot come up with $50 to settle a bill with a hooker.
  4. ---I graduated in 1966 and 1975... Lots of good info here...some wrong.. the coliseum was here well before Fry appeared.... The Pac-8 had just gone to ten members in the 70's adding the Arizona teams from the WAC and the Big-10 existed. Most people felt that the SWC would go to 10 especially after Houston became #9... NTSU and Fry seemed certain it would happen and we were doing well in football and basketball winning 20+ games and playing about 26-28 games.. The problems... college football did not play 12 games then, only eleven and had just moved up from 10. Playing nine opponents would only allow two non-conference games. So some did not really want a 10 team conference. ---In late 70's SMU opposed us and convinced TCU and Baylor to agree with them...... no official vote was ever taken I have heard... it took 7 of 9 to approve us. SMU did not want us to infringe on their Dallas base or recruiting and convinced the other two having a large state school near them would not be good for them. Having said that.. I have heard Royal (UT) and Broyle (Arkansas) wanted us in.. the rest did not seem to object.. We were playing Arkansas and UT once in awhile. We got caught in early 80's without a conference and not doing well.... we were forced to drop to I-AA. --- During the 60's only one SWC school played us in football... Arkansas.... When at NTSU we kept hearing at times that was because we were integrated and they were all white. Baylor and SMU each played one black in 1966... and I think the state schools had none until after 1970...Roosevelt Leaks at UT (1972), Mosley at Tech (1971) ... That may have not the reason they never played us in the 60's but that was the rumor. Our team with Joe "Mean" Green was very good and partially because they were not allowed to attend SWC schools when coming out of HS... we got them... ---Jitter Nolan .. good for North Texas (good at fund raising and shaking hands) but some scandal happened and not too public ... I remember no details. ..
  5. I would love to shock Cajun nation..... but just in case I may need to stock up extra beer.... for either result. We did pretty well against Alabama a couple of seasons ago on TV... well until halftime.... then things went sorta South. [ a lot of other teams did worse against them ] LSU will be ranked very high...
  6. I can't imagine many freshmen and sophomores staying... if they get an offer somewhere else they will be gone. Seniors likely will stay. Rotten ... rotten ... rotten... covering up what had happened was bad enough... but covering up what was still happening when they learned of it is terrible and by so many.. . It is well deserved.
  7. If that is accurate, a lot of younger players will be gone.
  8. no... not if another option was on the table.
  9. I think it is worse... the fans will get to see their team destroyed for years... and know why..
  10. .. ---I agree with everything except the final comment... they will be a power again (too much money there) but not anytime soon.. maybe ten years as you said first. They will become a very bad joke... far worse than what SMU became. Perhaps they should change Beaver Valley Stadium to Predator Valley Stadium... Glad to see Paterno is now not #1 officially in wins... Glad to see the NCAA came down hard... this was not about one guy out of control but a whole staff and administration hiding what was happening-- (not just about what had already happened).. Can't see quality players going there.. plus expect several current players with 2-3 years left to leave and go elsewhere. They are screwed.
  11. Really --- Every word we use is a "made-up" term . That term is used both by police and by the military ....meaning a rapid fire weapon with a large number of shots possible. if it was meaningless ... Why was the term used in that law.
  12. --- The second Amendment (1791) was put there for a lot of reasons... guns were then needed to provide food, protect citizens against Indians. also thugs, and I suppose to help maintain freedom... If you seriously think assault weapons are enough to protect you against the government in today's world... you are being delusional.. since it has tanks, jets, and armoured vehicles... just take a look at Syria now. --- I own guns .... but I oppose these assault -type weapons being sold to the public.... they have no other purpose than to kill people (not varmints, deer, snakes etc.) and to kill a lot of people in a hurry. It is rare to find a rural type person that supports the sale of these the types. Crooks that might be able to get them but tend to drug gang types and use them against each other, rare to hear of one in a home invasions or against an individual.. I know some people that consider guns as toys.. nothing could be further from the truth. I know no-one that has ever used a gun in self defence... but I know personally several that have accidentally shot and even accidentally killed themselves or a friend. --- If the government can prevent people in general from owning dynamite, grenades, tanks, bazookas, and anti-aircraft guns ... why not assault weapons...? They have no practical use except kill a lot of people and a lot in a hurry..... I can't remember the last time that I have heard (if ever) of an assault weapon being used by a person in self defense of themselves or their home... --- Again don't claim I am anti-gun... I own some guns ... some serve a purpose for hunting and eliminating varmints, snakes etc. and even self-defense. I find it interesting that both Presidential candidates have voted for or urged passage of assault bans..... just not lately since they are running for office. Mass. banned them when Romney was governor and he signed it and Obama has voted for assault bans before being President. Are we just waiting for something worse to happen than the two incidents in Colorado and the representative from Arizona? .. It will happen...
  13. ---Three years of no TV, no bowl games, and no TV revenue sharing from conference, and allowing players to transfer without any penalty to players would really hurt them... Their pool of top player recruits would totally disappear plus the hurt would continue for a while beyond three years with a weakened program.. Allowing teams to cancel game contracts after the 2012 season would be a good idea and hurtful as well.. The events that caused this was not just one guy but a "cover-up" or ignoring by a lot of coaches and administration members it appears.. This would not be a death penalty but the program would be hurting greatly and a message sent to others to clean up things and not just things closely related to the game. ..
  14. They should think about what really happened and how they would feel if they were a victim. As a coach he was successful.... as a man.. he was disgusting.
  15. A Texas Republican congressman ( Louis Gohmert) claims "Colorado" killings happened because "We told God we didn't want him..." He is also a buddy of Bachmann and think Islamics are taking over the US government... Just remember all of this when November shows up. Today's GOP members are nothing like the ones in the Reagan or Goldwater era. They are religious conservatives... but not financial ones.... check out the national debt 2001-2009 or the State of Texas financial and budget problems... Don't blame recession in Texas.. our economy in most places in Texas is very good, especially the western half..(oil) . http://www.nydailyne...ticle-1.1119282
  16. --No wonder you are full of it...!!
  17. SMU ..?? They are in the same conf. as Houston and they ignor Houston which is triple their size and close by???
  18. Agree.. idiots..... saying NT University doesn't bother me [ people say Texas University and University of Texas , who cares, they don't ] Just don't say State, not part of our name for over 20 years. Some just don't know better ( ignorant ), but some like smu people think it is an insult so use it. --- I almost passed out when a friend of mine refered to it as North Texas State Teacher's College when talking to me. ... holy cow.... it has never been that since we entered first grade. and we were born during WWII. She wasn't trying to be funny.... or insulting. -------------- ---I prefer a helmet symbol close to what the alum organization uses [ a crossed NT ] but you might be right... UNT might be helpful... .
  19. --- That doesn't bother me.... at least the author left out the word "State" which does and disappeared over 20 years ago. I hope they recover and don't have happen to them what happened to West Texas State [ aka West Texas A&M now ]. The three of us had been members of the old MVC when it died in football. They have made a lot of bad and unlucky decisions. They joined the WAC to be with UTEP then UTEP lmmediately left for CUSA. They are now between a rock and hard place...... no good answer. CUSA, the Belt, and Mountain West look like only real good options and none seem to want them. They were on the extreme west of the very wide SunBelt and moving west made some sense for them (not us) ... it just bit them in the rear. --- Belt may take them back since the commish is from the WAC. I wish them good luck. ------------- nearby??? ... Denton is near NMSU .... I know 650 miles is not a lot by western standards but nearby is sorta a stretch. .
  20. --- Why some people who think actors, musicians, athletes, etc. are really smart amazes me. Some like Tom Cruise never even walked into a college even one day and are as dumb and ignorant as a goat. Granted being a college graduate doesn't automatically make a person intelligent but it sure increases the odds. -- As said above, some need to shut up and we might think they are more intelligent than we think they are. --- As he said above, I often voted GOP in some of the years he mentioned above ..... but once they started claiming it was the party of Christianity.... I pretty much stopped... Mixing religion and government doesn't work for me..... apparently it doesn't work so well in the Middle East either. Besides Christian churches have so many different beliefs.... on alcohol, contraception, the way you dress(1880 dresses/hair styles), which day is #7, snake worship, caffeine use*, eating pork, and so many other things..... so which group do we want to be in charge? [ and yes I am Christian, and attend church regularly ] ---I don't think not voting is the answer.. I have voted for individual Green or Liberterian candidates at times...not because I wanted them to win .... but as a protest to the idiot that was running in the major party... that way they and others can see some don't support them. *Mormons oppose use of coffee, tea, cokes, energy drinks, alcohol, etc.
  21. Celebrate all three but add a year every time.... and loudly announce how old she was [with all three birthdays] when possible. After a while I'll bet she settled on one. So she is 120 now??? Celerating Lunar birthday's seem a bit looney.
  22. The best reason to move from the Belt was to get away from Benson. The second was the lack of name recognition of many colleges in the Belt. The third is we will be with a much better regional group known in Texas.
  23. News last night... China in 1985 sold 5000 new cars.... last year 18,000,000... lot of demand there for gasoline plus everything thing else more modern and requires energy. ---not much "alleged" there..
