. Agree... Galileo was not anti-Christian (nor the article) ... he just thought the Church was wrong and crazy to ignor the truth.... Even Martin Luther was not anti-Catholic.... just trying to change the extremely corrupt policies of the Catholic Church at the time (1519?)... paying the Church for indulgencies for example which meant paying money for supposedly forgiveness of sins past or just to commit them... They were awful then.. Even killing or banishing non-Christians was acceptable ( which would never happen in modern times .... really.. see Nazis plus a few I won't mention). ---Throughout history religion including Christianity had claimed science was often wrong... and even unChristian.... It is still true today also... some groups think having a beer is sinful, some even sell it at church fairs... some think contraception is sinful... most don't... some groups accept polygomy ... most don't. Some think women should never cut their hair or women must dress with skirts to their shoes (and absolutely no pants). Don't forget the Amish which seem to think elelctricity is the work of the devil. Until more modern times most of Christianity did not think men should be physicians to women (sinful) .... As MLK once said... the most segregated day of the week was Sunday..... churches did not permit those who were different racially to attend their church (the right one). ---Some people have a very warped view of science... some of science is wrong for a while until disproven... but more often than not... science wins over superstition and strange beliefs... can't take the Bible as absolute ... or at least word for word.... where are the four corners of the earth...?? list them.... or are there any as stated. We would be living in middle age conditions if it weren't for science.... and computer/internet would not exist either and you could not read this "witchcraft" print which involves electricity which some once considered the work of the devil..... people usually give up and say .. science was right after all....then pick another fight.... As one comment that exists states. ... "God works in mysterious ways"... science reveals a lot of them. Religion and science should not fight each other or be in conflict. ... Science isn't the one picking a fight.... various religious groups do. Strange fact--- Is Sunday the first day of the week or last? ... On American calendars it is the first.... it is the seventh listed in many European countries... but still it is the same day.. I wonder what 7th-Day adventists think of this?... I will never forget a super-religious woman telling me when we went to day-light savings time... that God created time and she didn't think we should mess with it...... huhh... didn't man design the clock and the length of hours and even time zones... crazy.... all measurements are man made by some mathematician or scientist. Don't see any conversion table in Bible on how to measure things or even that we must use base 10 (we do likely because of ten fingers) 43 = 4 double-hand-fulls and 3 more. Yes I do teach math. ...

-- I did not want to exaggerate any.... 100's of 1000s 's absolutely.. and pretty much most countries along the Mediterranean did it.... as did the Spanish part of the Americas. http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/History/Inquisition.html (Jewish source) ---They have had a rough time throughout history... even during the Plague during the 1300's, 1000's were killed ... supposedly one incident 3000 were burned at one time... the idiots thought the plague existed because God was displeased with their existence.. I'm not Jewish but Christian ..... but there are a lot of history in which the actions taken were far from Christian acts.... even in America ... ---Those who want to go back to our Christian roots in America don't know much history.. There was a big reason our informed forefathers put in separation of church and state into our Constitution. Even the Puritans did not come here for freedom of religion exactly.... but the freedom to believe as they wanted ... and then hang those who they thought others were witches if they disagreed. [ check out Salem, Mass. and area ]. There is also a reason that the KKK burned crosses too and not something else... and in the area that later known as the "conservative" Bible Belt.. I don't think going back to those so-called Christian values is where we should go.

----Also remember that these nuts once walked into someones classroom and that these people also have kids ....that schools have to deal with... It is a strange world out there... Toss in that about everyone in prision was in school-rooms as well and we had to deal with them... My absolute worst (by far) was class of less than 20 who had 5 "students" that were later charged with murder (4 murders) plus two in the room that were murder victims (the killer of one was in that room also... bad drug deal.. about two years later.) ... The class period prior to this one that I had had a kid that later appeared on TVs Most Wanted.... crazy, crazy year.....Guess which year I ran a marthon.. that one... would come home frustrated and hit the streets to keep my sanity and take out my frustrations. . --Have some sympathy for those who stand in front of a classroom... it is a tough job as it is for those who work in law-enforcement. At least teachers get to deal with a lot of great people as well as these nuts. -
---Galileo was finally re- admitted to the Catholic Church about 10-15 years ago... Guess they finally decided he wasn't wrong**.. and the the earth wasn't flat... and that the earth wasn't the center of the universe ( that was their big objection to Galileo... he claimed the Earth revolved around the Sun) the only thing that saved his life was that he was well known... the Inquistion was in full "bloom" so the church killing people who believed other than they did was common.. ---A previous Pope had declared the world flat.... based on some Bible passages refering to the four corners of the earth.... spheres don't have corners.. Meanwhile the Greeks and others had even calculated the earth's size mathematically rather well a 1000 or so years earlier... **too bad they can't give back the lives of all the 1000's of people they killed during the Inquisiton for not believing as they did. ( a lot were Jewish)

How long has it been since they did finally "cave in" some... two weeks...?? And that has been the only time in ten years since 2001... have some patience. Guns--- Are you really sure you want teachers with guns in schools.... I have seen too many careless people and personally knew a lady that dropped hers and shot herself (fatal)... this happened todays at a North Carolina gun show.. with people who supposedly understand guns well. I am fairly certain more people will be killed accidentally that saved by classroom teachers carrying them. That isn't being anti-gun... just anti-gun in classroom. Three people shot with a shotgun... including a former deputy sherriff who was about to inspect it before letting it in.. (fortunately not fatally) http://news.yahoo.com/three-hurt-firearm-accident-north-carolina-gun-show-234451916.html

. The US Treasury is not the Democratic Party... ---Spending has been cut and I and agree not enough.... but on the GOP side (not all of them) would not agree to even $1 increase in taxes.... mostly because of their Norquest pledge .....They won't because they know how much much money would oppose them in a primary election. Apparently you think compromise is one side give in and the other gives in none... That is what has happened mostly.. now the other side is also stubborn and refuses to give in any more because they realize both cuts and restored taxes are needed. Another issue is what some what to cut.... some of the proposed cuts are insane. ---Both needs to be done... cut spending and raise some of the taxes to try to get things under control as they were prior to 2001... ---Search around you can find quotes from Goldwater (dead), Bush Sr., and even Dole that are/were totally disgusted with the GOP (NOW) and those that signed that pledge. The GOP of today is not what it once.... was a national article lately in the local Midland paper (high conservative, once home of both Bushes, Craddick etc.) even stated they doubted Reagan and Bush Sr. could get nominated today because of how it changed... I agree... I voted for them but not these guys.. And you think I am a left wing socialist.... really.. I opposed the last Bush administration mostly because of the excessive spending... ie. I am rather conservative. But I far from gullible ..and I don't believe everything some radical radio guy or Fox claims... that makes a fortune by doing so. . ..

---Rick at least you realized the gun article is not a great sourse... It an anti-gun one and not neutral... but then again... you likely rejected it because it didn't agree with you.... Me.. I am far from anti-gun... own them... own rural land as well... but no fan of assault weapons which can kill a dozen people in less than a minute... That is their only purpose... they are not sport guns and very rarely needed for defense by common people.. --I work in education (still.. college now) I can't imagine when I was in public school trying to break-up a fight with a gun in my pocket.... that is asking for trouble... plus I know people who aren't that great with guns that have had them go off.... one lady I KNEW dropped hers and it killed her. I have NO problem with a teacher having one in a locked car or a security person in the building with one.....But not individual teachers carrying one.... More people will die by accidents than are saved plus there is the danger of having a kid get access to one (taken or grabbed if put down (don't think it won't happen from some woman's purse). I have had students in class (police officers) with guns on them... no problem.... but I don't want some hung-over/mad/druggie kid in class with one either. Most urban types I have dwelt with who aren't police are dangerous with one... they really don't have to clue about them [even with the so-called gun training class ]. --Interesting I have had several policemen (in uniform) that removed their guns before coming into class even though it was perfectly legal to have them ... and they knew it.

.. Read the Damn site if you doubt me (or dare) ..... It is a US government site ( US Treasury) ... not some some political site. It is the truth .. not some harebrained political propaganda. You can with this link look all the way back to 1790.. Apparently some people just can't handle the truth....... when it isn't what they want it to be...... Are you afraid you will find, from an official sourse, that the truth isn't what some tell you.... One thing that UNT taught me was consider the course... and why they might say that... The US Treasury has to be as neutral as it gets... it is the official accounting record. http://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/pd/histdebt/histdebt.htm

- ---So you are saying that our war on terror was more expensive that all of the Wars before combined...WOW. Just maybe we should have revoked the tax-cut of 2001 for a while ....but we couldn't.... the Norquest pledge guys.... so they let the debt get out of control ...and it still is. ---On the personal level people who let their credit card go crazy really have a tough time getting their finances back into control... a lot easier to just control it as they go ... and not wait. Your comment is similiar to tearing up a house and then blaming the next owner for how bad it looks..... and even worse refusing to help any when asked (aka Norquest pledge guys). ---Do you understand what the debt limit is...??.. there is no money to pay the already existing bills... It is not about increasing spending. It is permission to obtain (borrow ) more money.... to pay what is already there.... We don't collect a lot of money that we once collected (mostly from the super-wealthy) and now we owe a huge amt of interest besides.....because what was done earlier.... If not increased there will be no money to pay government workers, the military, unemployment, and maybe not social security payments or even mailmen.... ..
-
.. ---I absolutely admit it is STILL terrible...even said so.... but the debt climb started under the last administration... and the debt grew about 2-3% per year when Clinton was there (not even 2% near the end..less than interest owed)... and there was talk of what to do with the surplus that was then occurring... presidents don't change laws ..congress does... Presidents just sign or veto. We now have as Congress that will do nothing because of the two houses being from two parties sand the GOP one has signed a pledge to Norquest that is ripping things apart.... Do you rally think those making millions every year [ unless you happen to be one ] should still be paying 15% in income tax on capital gains (they still are) that is outside of the $400,000 limit. with is likely a lot less than you are paying... WAKE UP ... you are being screwed and they ( the super-wealthy ) are getting insanely rich... Not picking on Romney but just using him as an example... he paid less percent-wise than I do... and I sure don't make millions ( or even the $400,000 ) per year... You have been brainwashed into think they deserve it...really.... WAKE UP.... meanwhile the debt just goes crazy and has after the 2001 tax cuts in which they got more than 90% of the tax-cuts (amount-wise ). Even heard last week a credible source report the richest 1% of Americans (combined) are now worth more the the total of the lowest 90% (combined) .... and you think that is great and they don't deserve to be taxed as the rest of us.... WEIRD... WAKE-UP. You are being screwed as the debt goes nuts and Congress does nothing... the President (even Bush) doesn't pass spending bills or set taxes but can urge things to be passes and sign or veto. Where do you think the money is coming from that supports Norquest etc. and into campaigns that don't support it.??? Yeah I noticed someone gave (-1 ) to my post early on.... That is really odd ... I expressed no opinions..... it was all about a true statement from the US Treasury.... Guess they just can't accept the truth if it isn't what they want the truth to be....... Remember in the 42 President total... that included the expense of WWII, Viet-Nam, Gulf War, and a lot of years... in fact over 200 years..
-
.. Obama 's debt??? ...... look what it was after first 42 presidents as Cinton left. --- ie. 2001 ... then look at 2009 when the next guy left. ---Several years ago after some conference shuffling ... I said the Big East was the next problem conference... too large, diverse, and not really unified... too many basketball only schools ....which is largely what did the old Missouri Valley in... UNT (then NTSU) was a memberwhen I was a student. The football guys wanted to move on. There is no telling what will happen now with that BE mess. SMU was screwing up in my opinion when they joined although I honestly say that doesn't bother me any.. Those basketball schools which were really core of the Big East conference did not want to travel 100's of miles to play.

.. ---I do ..... and apparently a lot of other people.... Lance Armstrong seems to have problems now as did Pete Rose, and Barry Bonds et.al. who did not get elected to Hall of Fame.. Even Nixon was forced out because of his lies.. Most seem to believe the ND player was trying to attract attention to himself to maybe win a Heisman.... which would deny (steal) it from someone else. It even bothers me about all the lying emails and radio claims that have been circulated making crazy claims such as born in Kenya, attended Medrasa, etac... can't trust those people. ... As long as you accept that as ok... you will be lied to by bosses, your children, spouses, politians, friends etc. .... Personally I believe "Thou shall not bear false witness"... apparently some people in sports, politics, and other places don't. The prisons are full of people who don't believe in or tell the truth... Madoff for one, and even some Enron folks (should be more of those guys locked up). ..

. ---You live in a large city... there are places in West Texas that you have to drive across several countries to even get to a driver's license/ID location... not every county has one in sparse areas. they sure don't have passports with a picture (saw several of people who had lost their certificate and drivers licence**] I agree.... it sounds like a great idea until you start looking at details and the problems... --- I work as an election judge... and the problem of fraud is not at the polls ...... it is all about mail in ballots (and who really fills them out) .... and you know which party sent out requests for mail in ballots to their primary voters. That likely wasn't their intention (fraud) ... . it was just to get their voters to vote........ oddly it like prohibited many from voting... they got one in the mail ... did not mail it in ... and then wanted to vote on election day...... they could not ... they had already gotten their ballot and often lost it and could not surrender it and vote normally. We had to turn away a lot of people because of it. [ both parties are represented by workers at general election voting sites ] **some had been pick-pocketed while traveling, one left billfold in a taxi, one lost his in a lake... many strange reasons.. but still had their passport as an ID. A few came with nothing... but could not vote even if name was on roll. Another oddity locally.... we had so many with no local address on license... the local office license office is so insanely busy because of our 2.7% unemployment with so many moving in (Midland) and because of the budget cuts by Perry that they are very understaffed ( fired teachers like crazy as well ... may we could do with less firefighters next....hahaha). I even know people who get their licence renewed or address changed while traveling in other counties... don't want to wait in long lines (100 ft) here. Hard to believe Texas has budget problem with unemployment like it is (better than most times) plus insane amount of oil revenue flowing into treasury..... and he is giving away billions in incentives to people and tax breaks to companies who often don't need them. Example: Incentives to friendly petroleum companies... make no sense.. they are national/international companies so any saving aren't passed on to just Texans and the oil is here not Maine or New Hamsphire etc.... they can't go elsewhere.. Pay attention to what he has been doing.

---That kid has to be the dumbest most gullible kid I have ever heard of or he was part of a scam to get attention.... If she was the love of his life, did he attend the funeral or even send flowers .....and how did his parents actually meet her as reported and know her.... if she didn't exist.... Doesn't help the ND image either way... very dumb students or not very honest. I vote scam.

_____________ ---I thought CNN did the best job of reporting and did not jump to conclusions and make many statements that were inaccurate... They were even careful about the shooter's name which turned out to be wrong... I listened to several networks and many reported things as facts and not rumors... which were wrong. --- It is now several days later and has been learned the Mom had owned the guns and taken the "kid" to shooting practice with her and he shot as well... That did not turn out well for her. Her best protection was not shooting practice.... but to not own them. He apparently had "social problems" at school and had been home schooled part of the time. ....... A sad situation..... This may not have been the worse ever by body count... but it was the worst in my mind because the victims were very small children that had done nothing wrong and had no chance of even defending themselves or to overpower him..
-
. ---About all I object to in your rant is the classless language....and lack of understanding of the environment some kids live in. . still providing birth control (and education) is better than the alternative.... and yes some will be too stupid to use it.... but some is better than none. ... because we will have to pay for those kids education (if American) if nothing else. I went to school prior to free school lunches and saw a lot of hungry kids.... The school lunch program is one that makes some sense.... it wasn't their fault they were born... they did nothing wrong and aren't trying to fleece America. Some may actually go to school because of the meal ... better that than having them on the streets doing whatever. "Let them eat cake!" compares to your college phrase...**** the dumb!... ie. translated: "life is all about us... not them". After all ...they do sweep your floors, clean your restrooms, pick up your garbage, and check you out at Walmart etc. Some of them (not all) are just doing the best they can do.... they didn't get the genes some of us have..... and some just have very little financial resources (my wife, who lost her father as the result of WWII .. still got a college degree because of one was in her hometown... never could have gone off to college) or come from very disfunctional families and never see the opportunities we had. . ... so you want ... Let them eat cake! or what you said. .

Boise State, San Diego State and BYU may rejoin MWC
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I think Lousiville will go ACC.... and Big Twelve pick up Houston and someone..... and that is the big mystery. .. not SMU, Rice, Cinn., or Memphis...... This a stretch but we are huge in a huge market.. -
Big East seems screwed footballwise..... Maybe ACC picks up a replacement from there (Louisville?)... and Big-12 goes to 12 again... (Houston and someone..can't see SMU getting there) after that who knows... The Big East will survive as a basketball conf. but what happens to the football guys ... I think SMU is screwed.
-
Who knows what their claims tommorrow will be --- but in response to first statement.... Is shutting down groups that give birth-control info and passing out free condoms etc. really the way to go...?? [ besides if you are truely conservative.. that means more welfare for those who can't afford birth control and more educational costs for all of us ] Note the TV pictures (ads) of starving kids in foreign countries... it is mostly because those countries have a birth rate is so high that they can not feed, house, and provide for the rapid population growth.
-
My opinion on trashtalk: Consider who the opponent is.... Go easy on lower level opponents and be rather respectful unless they are acting like jackasses (coach maybe) ...we haven't appreciated some of the remarks when we were overmatched .... they are not supposed to be as good...... but on D-I equals... that is a lot different.
-
Dumb argument... Alabama is really the Red Elephants (note stickers etc. ) but go by Crimson Tide.... Notre Dame is really Lepracons and use fighting Irish. There are more... I think Tulane once used Pelicans instead of Green Wave. Besides those of us who attended before the Mean Green name hit .. still like Eagles..... that is what we used as students and we are still alive. I even remember students locking hands some [ thumbs really and extended fingers together... resembles an Eagle... that seems to be gone. [used on kickoffs with person next to you] More confusion... listen to Texas Tech school song ... it is "Hail to the Matadors".... which is what they once were until they showed up a a bowl game with a horse and rider..... That is the Red Raider ( looks more like a Picador to me ) ... that old school song still exists, no changes. They used the term Picadors or Pics for their freshman teams until 70's.... freshman could not play on varsity teams (anywhere in NCAA) until 70's.
