---How could anyone not select Steve Ramsey at QB..... he quarterbacked and started for Denver in the NFL for several years in the 70's. He was replaced by Craig Morton who then got them to the Super Bowl. He was QB when Joe Green was here. Ron Shanklin, later of Super Bowl Champon Steelers was his main receiver.

--- Where-ever you go... go to learn something... a football career doesn't last that long even you are very lucky and make the NFL.... when it is over... then what? Also major in something that you actually can earn a living doing. [ Turkish literature probably isn't one of them ]. -
--- I have found it interesting on how many in the NFL do not come from big name football schools. Just listen to the introductions before NFL games... Smaller name school players often do extremely well... they usually get more playing time (and years playing) . Some recruits think they must go to a big-name program to get noticed... not true. ---Super Bowl winner Ravens: Flacco-QB (Delaware), R.Ray-RB (Rutgers), J.Jones-WR (Lane), T. Smith (Maryland), and 49er-QB..Kaepernick (Nevada). ___Finally... very few college players (persent-wise, anywhere) make the NFL... Go to school to learn something and major in something meaningful ... besides an NFL career doesn't last that long anyway... so then what do you do?

. --The star rating system is very inexact... and so is the NFL draft. You really think Tom Brady should have gone in the sixth round or that Ryan Leaf was in the top ten... A lot of success at the next level depend on effort, attitude, and in the case of rating going in, the team they came from and who else was on the field contributed to it.. Good luck to new recruits.. hope you enjoy your time here... I did. -
.. I've told people that is good advice to major in somethings that involves numbers... math, science, engineering, accounting and many business areas.. Not so much for French lit, or a lot of other majors.. Not trashing them, some people are needed .... but a lot less jobs available or a lot of them not so well paying ... just be aware. .. .. Re comment about UT and A&M getting all the money: Texas gets an insane amount from the University Land fund which collects a huge amt of revenue from oil leases (especially in West Texas). In fact that is why so many colleges have undergone name changes so they can draw from that fund. UT-Arlington, West-Texas A&M, UTEP, and many more.. UNT and TxTech doesn't get any of that. ....It also partially explains why we have no state income tax... no other state has this fund... and we fund many colleges with it instead of taxes. We have it because we were once an independent nation and kept our public lands when we "merged" with the USA and get that revenue... ..

.. Very good advice... I'm extremely careful about walking in front of a car that is running.... especially if there is something in front of it to be pinned to. Even the best of people make mistakes. (foot slips off while looking back for example) ____________________ I had an interesting talk with a former green Beret today (Nam). His opinion is as mine is... Assault weapons are for killing people... and a lot in a hurry... should be made only for military/police use.... and guess what... he was raised in a rural area. He also thought teachers had no business with one in classroom... (he has taught..computers and math)... as I do he thinks it is a good idea to have one or so on campus but locked. (his opinion and mine) Soldiers on patrol in Nam often did not have ammo in guns (safety reason) ..but was put in quickly when needed. ..

--- It bothers me some that tax-paying Texans sometimes are not admitted while foreign students who have paid nothing in taxes are... This is a tax supported institution. I am not completely against admitting them but standards for them should be higher... I know for a fact where my wife teaches HS (college prep school) that this is an issue with many that have denied entry and are very good students. . --as for Tier one or whatever.... I am not that impresssed... It is not so much about quality of education but so many other factors... research, endowment, and I would even argue location.. Supposedly Princeton was once listed as a Tier 1 Law school in a publication..... the problem... It didn't have one... just a good prelaw program then (has one now) .

.. ---So you think no teacher would accidentally do that. Plus you don't know that he was playing with trigger... not what was said.... plus how often does a teacher's "pocket" bump a desk every day (a lot)... Plaxico a Moron ... maybe ... but we had then had a VP that shot his hunting buddy (so he is a moron?).... bad things would happen. . I guess you think the lady I knew that picked up her coat and dropped her gun was a moron.... not a all... but she died.... accidents happen..... I suppose none of your friends or you ever had an auto accident either.. but if they (or you) did... were they morons?? ..

--You get what you pay for.... and some people don't want to fund anything .... unless it is their deal.. Trade schools...??. oddly the community college I work for has lost several trade programs... lost state funding.

. --- Absolutely agree.... That has been my argument against teachers carrying guns... I feel more people will be killed accidentally that would be saved... [ even knew a lady who dropped hers, it fired, she died ]... I see no problem with guns locked in cars or even locked up in a office... I am very far from anti-gun. ... but there has to be common sense. I have seen too much careless handling of guns..especially by those who grew up in urban environment.... so many seem to think of them as toys..... Rural-types rarely do. Remember Plexico Burriss ....it was concealed in his pocket and somehow it fired... fortunately no one died... Didn't matter if he legally had it or not.... that isn't the point.... it accidentally fired... it likely would in some teachers' pockets also.

I don't live in Dallas area and I don't even check the scores anymore.... Team appears to be awful ..... or at least the record is. The expectations were high for a very good year which makes it even worse. First time I have looked at basketball thread in weeks... Change is needed. -
SMU's Gerald Turner comments on realignment
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
From the article: “I remember emotions ran rather high on those rejections,” Hutcheson said. “I know at one time a number of people cut up credit cards from stores in Dallas because they felt the SMU people had not been backing Tech’s effort. They tried to apply economic influence, and sometimes economics does exert pressure.” SMU was a jerk even then. Life is/was all about them... Interesting the the SWC went from 1922 until 1956 (1960 was first TTU football year) with no additions. $ure doesn't happen in today's world... . -
Is it time to retire the term "MUTS"?

If you want respect... you have to show some respect. We go by a two word name... so what is wrong with Middle Tennessee. One big exception... smut... they show no respect for us ... so get none... (see first statement) . -
. ---Forget the crazy details... either you believe God exists or that he doesn't.....period...It is all about faith and beliefs... you can't prove anything....The details and the crazy interpretations is most of the problem... "To the four corners of the Earth" didn't mean it was flat either.... but that crazy Pope and others thought it did. We have people thinking birth control is bad...... some don't think you shouldn't cut hair.....some think women should wear dresses to the floor and no makeup..... some don't use modern appliances, cars, or electricity... some think if you don't believe as I do, I can kill you.... Some think Saturday is the seventh day (some European calendars have Sunday as day seven and Monday as first... bet they are confused there)... ---I don't see much fight coming from the science side but I do see a lot from the religion side coming up with anti-science arguments... then science responds to it. Electricity isn't the work of the devil as some once in religion claimed and the world isn't flat. Evolution... it exists, at least somewhat.. I am not about to argue about evolution of "monkey (whatever)" to man. It is a theory ( not proven fact) ... take it or leave it... I have had a lot of math/science and often amazed as to how things work ...I see no conflict.... what happened in the beginning happened and who cares about details. ---My big problem are these guys who "think?" they absolutely know the answers... which includes the nutty First Baptist-Dallas minister claiming Obama is the forerunner of the anti-christ... really... they said the same about Hitler, and others... Quit making up stuff [ aka bearing false witness ] ... You are driving people away with those insane claims and look very stupid... ---More wars have had a religious issue involved and had more people killed than for any other reason... even in WWII the Jewish religion was an issue in a so-called Christian country. The Protestant reformation resulted in 1000's (or millions) being killed. Today's big problem in the Middle East is mostly about religious fanatics. .... Assuming God exists.... I doubt he approves of all of this. ---Pretty much everything can be summarized to one statement--- "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". ... which includes don't go around lying about others or killing them. _______ FFR --How is the heck do you think I am a pagan liberal.... as you claim in posts... I am Christian, but not extremely gullible to some groups claims, .. and I hated the debt getting out of control after 2001, said so, and so many just ignored it and then claimed to be conservative....also I thought the Iraq invasion (a war with seemed unjustified because no real evidence of nukes (wasn't any)... but it killed/disabled a lot of people and likely was a mistake .... I don't think some here really understand what conservative means.... to me-- pay your bills, stay out of debt, and mind your own business unless they are doing something that harms you ... includes not claiming your religious beliefs is the correct one .... If you read the US Treasury site chart (which you didn't dare to comment on)... you know my debt comment is true... it started the rapid climb after 2001..not 2009.... and is still climbing.... mostly because Congress will do nothing (Norquest pledge is a problem). .

Those that deny global warming are nuts (my opinion) Just look at the glaciers up north that have melted and tops of mountains that once had snow year around and don't now. To me is all about ?why?.... natural as you (eagle61) pointed out or man-caused. Maybe we can change it some... maybe not... and true if other countries do nothing ... then what we do might be rather meaningless. But to do something than nothing wish later you had....... Sort of like learning to swim....maybe you will NEED to know how .... what if you do... maybe you should learn... never know what is coming, you might fall into the lake.. Both sides of this issue has their extreme nuts. One quick religion comment... those guys like the Dallas First Baptist minister do more harm than good..... they drive reasonable people from their church.... Those type of guys is what caused me to switch from being a Baptist.... that and getting way too political.... and their insane criticism of a person having beer even with a meal... and a few other personal issues... Interesting they would scream like crazy if government tried to tell them what to do ... but the telling the government and people what to do about government is ok....... hypocritical again.
-
. I never said that either... but the Pope then took every word as 100% accurate and so do some ministers today (listen to them) They used " the four corners of the earth" comment to indicate the world was flat.... and they excommunicated and killed people that disagreed with them... They considered his word infallible. Leviticus is a book of laws.... good luck at keeping all of them..... or even staying out of prison if you do. .... There are reasons quoted there to justify doing your wife or kids in... (murder). I am far from anti-Christian.... ( I am one) but the history of Christianity is not all that great... and these nutty posts that we should go back to the Christians beliefs of our past is insane... We have a lot to be ashamed of... and those using odd passages to justify those actions. If we went back we could justifiy the KKK from the Bible Belt, Nazis, racism, war, hangings, torture.... all of which occured using Christianity as a justification..... The German passon plays portrayed the Jews as responsible for the crucifixion. It was a factor is what happened in Germany [they admit it.. even at Oberammergrau, been there] Now we have the ultra-right claiming we are far less Christian than before and we have might have the anti-Christ as President. Even the minister of First Baptist -Dallas has claimed in his sermon Obama is the forerunner of the anti-Christ... How stupid and biggoted. He is no Christian in my view... what happened to "Thou shall not bear false witness." A lot of that going around especially in emails. The Dallas minister is no better than the medieval Popes. ( a hypocritical liar ) These idiots make Christianity look bad. Repeating... I am Christian.... just dislike these guys who just make up things plus claim to be more Christian than most of us. ..

.. ---On this [science/religion ] issue and the post I made showing the US treasury record of debt for the last 200+ years (especially 2001-09 ] .. you make frivolous comments or none.... If you want to be taken seriously.... make meaningful comments and then quote meaningful sourses... not some rumor or claim some radio/TV guru makes with no real facts. . .

--- I can easiy understand your view... as a former Baptist... and even went to a Baptist college for a while ( blacks were not allowed to attend there then...even those who attended HS with me in the same town ... real Christian of them ... ) ... but to go as far as an atheist is a bit extreme to me. I do not "buy into" a lot of what some religious groups claim.... but to think this is all one big accident is a bit much for me... ---The crazy thing to me is that more people have been killed in the name of religion than any other reason... even most modern wars it is somehow an issue... Even WWII had one... Nazi were killing those of the Jewish religion (plus others, not widely known maybe because of small numbers ...maybe not told for other reasons) and Japan had suicide pilots believing they they were doing the work of their religion.
