Shoot a 12 guage shotgun... you will get a kick out of it. -
The old ACC members aren't going to leave.... because of .... basketball.
-
The Big East got very large from it had been plus it contained basketball only schools with football ones.... It is self destructing ( as I thought it would) from what it was with most of originals leaving and many other changes. Going back futher The WAC enlarged and then most of the originals left to form the Mountain West. The WAC is about if not dead. The SWC is bit different.... the size of schools (and cheating) was the big issue... Rice, SMU.TCU at the time were not at all competive ...it is gone. The Big X only added Penn State until recently... still exists. PacX has not changed in decades until recently.... still exists. Big XII...really scattered now and was once mostly the Big 8 ... Still exists but has lost several of original Big 8 members. the MVC .... not much a football league and had many teams only basketball ... changed greatly. To me the SEC and ACC until now are the only ones that has gotten rather large but rather slowly... and has done ok.... so far ----I fear the conference getting too large and/or too diverse and too scattered (hurts attendence) ... slow down ... The Pac-10, Big-X, ACC, and SEC (until now) are mostly closely grouped schools... which helps as well.
-
Stop worrying about conference name.... just kick rear ala FGCU..... We did about a decade ago ... but not against non-conf name opponents... That was the problem.... We need to do that ..... We are a large university and in a huge market. ...Just win and especially against several big guys..... We would get noticed and then things will happen....

C-USA's next expansion move? (POLL)

Go slow.... no adds now. -
--- Disgusting and should be very illegal .... Almost no one likes abortion but never should it be done in the last 100 days except to save the mother's life. . (my opinion) The first 100 days is a bit different.... if the decision is to be made... make it early and quickly... long before the fetus could survive outside. No one should be forced to have a kid after being raped and in a few other circumstances (includes very young immature girl which might ruin her life and the kid's ) ... That kid would be disliked by the family and perhaps mother forever. Often abused kids were unwanted kids. ---My opinion has changed alot over the years due to what I have seen or heard of.... we have a local drug dealer (in prison now) who fathered 25 kids with 24 women.... trading drugs for "fun". Guess who gets to pay for them... not him.... us.. hospital bills and then education and other welfare. Considering these kids environment.... doubt many of them will be our "finer" citizens either.. ---How did this subject get here from guns..??

Eagles advance to next round in NCAA
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to SCREAMING EAGLE-66's topic in Mean Green Basketball
They are the first 15th seed to get to the sweet 16 and they play at "Jerry's World" next week... I wish it was the Eagles from Denton instead.. -
We have lots of company..
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to SCREAMING EAGLE-66's topic in Mean Green Basketball
.. --- I went to UNT in the mid 60;s .... Every weekday game old Men's Gym was filled to the max.... and we were in the Missouri Valley with Louisville, Wichita State (a power then), Cincinnati (NCAA winner in 61 and 62), Tulsa, Bradley, Drake, St. Louis, and others. The games were crazy fun... We had to get there early if to get a seat.. I hate to say it but after moving into the coliseum the excitement waned a lot. and plus we left the MVC later. The weekend games weren't quite the same,,, so many people left campus there was always some room.. --- For those who don't know the MVC was the best conference in the country at the time.... my senior year we had 5 teams in the top 10 until conference play started... and then they started knocking each other off. UCLA was the best team in that era but not in best conference end to end. The ACC was good but it was still all white and not as good as the MVC. Saw a lot of future NBA players in Denton in that era. The MVC regularly made the final four... and got beat by UCLA usually in semifinals..... which won about 10 title in 12 years, Texas Western ( UTEP ) and N.Carolina won the other ones. That was an era of only team per conference in tournament. .. -
But they aren't named North Texas...( unfortunately) Florida Gulf Coast defeated Georgtown and it was no fluke.... Those guys are amazing.. They play again Sunday night against San Diego State and are extremely entertaining... The college has only existed since 1997 and has an enrollment of about 13,000.

.. -- You win that part.... I misread... it was a legal one.... and only a .22 at that. --- Sounds like a couple of out of control cops..... They were told to get a legal search warrant and couldn't. Just because a person is a cop or security doesn't meant they are right or brilliant... I had one shoot at me once... thought I was a burgler... I was a night employee ( and college student ) and was supposed to be there. Again that happens also ... even people who are trained with guns do stupid things. What he thought he saw happening wasn't happening. .Still want people in schools with guns... especially a trigger happy one. !! ..
-
--- Note the story says ILLEGAL GUNS...... not just guns.... That would include a shotgun with a 10" barrel**. I would think they might show up also if they displayed on Facebook a bale of hay that was marijuana, bags of cocaine, a meth lab, or a case of dynomite or many other things that is illegal to have ... Why are you so afraid of the government....??.. we have had no coup or anything close in the past 200 years. Some guns have been banned for decades... this is nothing new. As for carrying guns around.... do you really think the Old West was really safe when about everyone carried one? Even cattle drive towns tried to ban them somewhat from the city at times. ---Why do you want teachers to have guns on them ... ? The risk vs. rewards just isn't worth it. ___________________ ** once knew a kid in HS that had one (saw it)... dumb urban kid and tried to shoot a shotgun that he had gotten dirt in end of barrel before shooting and the barrel "swelled". It was ruined so he just cut it off... That was illegal as heck. He wasn't a criminal type... just stupid. I graduated and lost track of him.

-- ---How many mass shootings in public schools have taken place in Texas in the last 40-50 years?... name some. [a kid bringing a gun to school and doing nothing doesn't count ] Having an armed teacher would not stop that... and if fact might have caused a shooting when confronted. ---In that time millions of people have graduated from a high school. We have had mass shootings at Ft. Hood (military base) where 1000's of guns are present and in Killeen at a restaurant (Lubys) which is near a military base. We had one notable college incident at UT about 50 years ago. ---It would make a lot more sense to carry a gun to 7-11 when you buy things there... probably 100's have been killed there in that time.... or to a bar. (which is now illegal also) ---This is all about risk vs. reward... the risk of accidents is far more than the reward (lives saved) . Besides considering how disrespectful many kids and stressful education is now... I wouldn't bet the against some teacher with a gun being the one that goes nuts and starts shooting..... It is a really dumb idea. ..
-
---Looks like those of us who have actually been there (in a classroom ) absolutely oppose it.... ---part II -- why just 60+ yr olds..... I am that.... and I am a lot more careful with guns than most 20 yr. olds... not dead in the head either.... still capable of teaching college calculus... I do it. ---Comparing a school to 7-11 is nuts... obviously those have never WORKED in public school really don't get it and what could and would go wrong. No.... I realize having one in a car isn't going to be quickly obtained...but could be on site in a couple of minutes. . but that is worlds bettter than having one in the classroom and dealing with what might and would happen if one was there... It was not unusual for me as a student and as a teacher to have one there... but not much for protection.... My family owned ranchland (for snakes etc.) In 40 years in classrooms... never witnessed a situation in any district-situation where one was needed on campus. ...very rare. ---
-
--- Secret service agent accidently fired one..... and he is extremely well trained in thier use... I am not rabid anti-gun (own-them) but having teachers with one will kill many more people by accident that it saves. Having one on campus (locked up) or in a car may make sense but not in any classroom or crowded hallway. http://news.yahoo.com/oops-u-secret-almost-accidentally-shot-irans-president-072000986.html http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2013/04/deep-state/309260/ (better)

No Texas teams in men's tourney.. Guess they can't say much about us...

Jordan Williams comments after the tourney loss
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
--- I agree with you... hate to see players with super egos especially when they aren't winning. Still remember several years ago when A&M was losing by 70 or so to OU and then they scored and the player went crazy celebrating like he had just won the game... Even the announcers trashed his actions. -
--- Once you have traveled abroad quite a bit and listened to their news, read their papers, and used other sources... you get a different perspective of things. [ not necessarily more accurate just different ] They often see things differently and our media and people and reports tell things from our point of view. Not saying we are wrong... often ours reports things as we want to see it happen or has happened. I also get the similar comments from the foreign students in the college math classes I teach ..... The same is true here somewhat... a lot of people hate the media when it tells them something other than what they want hear (damn liberals....lol) .... even if is true. Of course many people wanted to believe Madoff was great and Enron too... and hated people who dared to say otherwise.... It cost them by not listening to both sides.

Off season fun! Crazy dorm stories!
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to North Texas Shep's topic in Mean Green Football
--- Pretty much confirms what I have said many times.... guns (even starter pistols) are not toys... Too many people are too stupid to be trusted with one. Anyone points one at me or anyone I will assume it is real... He was an idiot... There are many of us that would have attacked him with a table knife, pencil, pen or whatever we had or it took to stop him... A broken pool cue stick would have done him in.. -
Off season fun! Crazy dorm stories!
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to North Texas Shep's topic in Mean Green Football
.. Not great idea in Texas.... someone might actually have a real gun... even in a dorm.. This will be a shock to those who think I am an anti-gun liberal... I had one in closet at College Inn one summer (back area, no roommate) ...too hot to keep in car trunk.. -
.. Zombie 12..? a conf of rather dead teams.... the life in it left.
-
Not great career moves on their part... He hated America ( thought we aided those who tried to overthow him ) and most of America hated him... In fairness, his country is probably better condiiton for the locals now than it was when he took over... which may not not be saying much. Rodman situation ... that is really wierd. Can't say anything good about N.Korea. ... worst and craziest country on the planet.

NCAA says Marshall must limit their Green
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
If I remember right , Fry went to his shade of light green for about a similiar reason... tough to see on game film ... but I think the film may have been black/white then.. The worm... hated it.. it was just typical of the time, 70's, some others went to some odd symbols as well. Doubt any still exist today. Hate that blue field (usually change games if on) but the red field is even worse. -
UNT celebrates 100 years with All-Century team
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Ramsey, Joe Green, Hardeman, and Abner Haynes are absolute no brainers to be chosen... If not it will be because of younger voters that never saw or heard of them. Shanklin, B.Kennedy and maybe J.T. Smith are close to that. Spider Lockhart was very good in NFL, don't remember much college hype.
