That map has problems... there is no way in Hell that Midland county has lost ..... oil industry is booming.. and building everywhere. ..jobs are so many available that they can't get employees for the lack of housing.
-
Yeah and they also go to work at 8:00 and quit at 3:00 ..... odd that I have seen many midnights and was grading papers or doing school related work.... Most men teachers and many women that don't have small kids in summers have another job.... I taught summer college math classes every summer from 1978 on (except one). I am now retired from public school but still teach college classes... and in 1/2 of the summer.... which usually contain a lot of Aggies and TxTech people home for the summer... Students do this largely to avoid the super large classes at "mega-Universities" taught by TAs that don't know what they are really doing and often can't speak English worth a darn.. Odd these people can teach at a large university with a graduate program but are not qualified to teach at any small or community college.... think about the difference in the education students are getting in the first two years... which is better.? Having a rookie TA with no teaching background or a person who has taught for years. That is why our transfer students (according to reports from major colleges back to us) have a better GPA than those that started there. NT is one of the best at reporting back to informing community colleges about their former students. I have had students from every major university in Texas and most of the Big-XII.

---Median salary is often better to compare than mean (avg. to most people) salary . As I point out to my students, if Bill Gates just enrolled in my class, then the average net worth would be over a billion each. His presence however would do nearly nothing to the median. ---One oddity about teacher salaries is that many don't pay any kid care for about 2.5 months which others often have to pay ... and for every $100 paid out other need to earn about $150 (taxes) ... plus many (me) do a lot of self-work which is completely unreported as income... example: yard care or painting their own house, doing lots of repairs in the summer etc. For example instead of paying $2000 for a paint job which they would have to earn $3000+ to have the money to pay because of taxes ... they do the work for a few $100. --A lot of the "mean" has to do with which majors or degrees are awarded...and not so much about the school name. Schools with large number of engineering degrees should average more.

. --- No problem with a security guard having a gun..... My problem is the classroom teacher and perhaps some administrators. That will lead to nothing but trouble and accidents as they do the job they are hired to do... teach and help students. --- I could name a lot people I have worked with that I would hate to think they had a gun in a classroom... Too careless, too scatterbrained to make good decisions with one, and just don't have the "temperament for it" and might make a difficult situation much worse. Knew a couple that seemed to think they were "Wild Bill Hickok" and so gun crazy they would love to draw one on someone. .

. The difference .... There was an insane number of bad calls in UT game... not just a questionable one or two or one blown call. I doubt the UT coaches as refs would have any more unfair. .
-
. I don't know that I would claim that ..... BUT ..... this has to be one of... if not the worst called games in the history of the NCAA.. Those guys should have never been allowed to ref another game ever. Call after call was terrible .... so many that it looked as if the UT coaches were the refs... in fact they might have been more fair. Most of those crazy calls were not even questionable ... they were absolutely wrong. I am not so sure I would claim UT was cheating but the refs sure appeared to be cheating for them. Even the UT announcers seem to disagree ( or just shocked ) with many of the calls. TxTech had a problem with refs at UT a few years ago also ( but not that bad ) .... apparently a couple of the refs actually lived in Austin so you know if there was any doubt they would favor UT or risk revenge against their house... That should never happen.. hometown refs should never be assigned to a game. ..

--- I learned years ago that there are some people that never should use a gun...( mostly non-rural types) I would take them hunting and they would shoot without ever thinking about what was in the distance..... cows, pickup, road, barn, tractors, house, etc..... maybe this applies here or maybe not ... but I am guessing that it does. A bullet can travel 100's of yards or in some cases miles. --- As for teachers having guns in schools ... who is say that one of them doesn't "lose it" and start shooting. This is not a good thing.... plus accidents are likely to happen. I have no problem with educators having one in a locked car or even with one locked up in the administrators office ... yes I know it would take a minute or two to get it but that is better than having one in the classroom with all that goes on. Very few in education (who actually understand the situation ) would support the idea of having teachers carrying one. I am now in my 47th year in front of a classroom and not once have I ever been in a school ( public school or college situation) that ever had an incident that having a gun would have been helpful... They are very, very rare but make news when they occur. An accident by someone in that time was far more likely. --- I am not anti-gun... I own them ... but having a gun is not the answer to everything.

TCU in a dogfight with FCS school
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to glick1980's topic in Mean Green Football
Just saw Baylor game at half-time... Jr. highs appear to have more attendance.... maybe they are under the stands... They are playing Buffalo .. and have 52 points at haslf... Tarleton would have given them more opposition... awful. Why play someone that terrible. ? -
. Read the top post ....we are not calling TCU people names ( I save them for SMU ) .. in general I support Frogs in games too..... just remember that I said I am guessing that TCU attendance and wins will go down in Big-XII (or whatever number) ... As they win less they will not recruit as well and that will drop attendance... TCU has less than 10,000 students and a lot less alums than UNT (40,000 students and 100,000's alums )... Put us in a major conf and our attendance and support would very high. Yawl feared a large state university about 1980 when the "holy three" [ Baylor, TCU and especially SMU ] did not support us entering the SWC.. The rest expressed support.. Yawl did not want us the be the team of the Metroplex region. .

Do Ohio's Injuries play a factor?

Years or weeks from now ... very few will remember the physical condition of any team at the time.... GO WIN. -
.. Agree, Partially . You are right Pitts does have six, Dallas has 5... ... Dallas has the most appearances (8) as I stated also. MEANGreener ... I am not putting down Houston as you are Dallas... I like the Texans and liked the Oilers (especially the Earl Campbell era and the Run&Shoot teams) .... but it is not necessary to slam someone else to make yourself look better ( considered immature (kids do it) and rarely works). Agree Dallas isn't what they were in the 90's or 60's or 70's... but they do win most of their games and are rarely ignored by anyone and with few exceptions are considered a playoff possibility. They may not be as dominant in NFL "clothing" market as they once were but they are still near the top if not the top one.. Travel around the USA and you will still see a lot of Cowboy apparel ... not so much true of others which is pretty regional. Interestingly that they are still considered the most financially valuable franchise in sports, ...and most aren't valued at half their worth.. ...because of number of fans and sales. That was published recently. Sorta of shoots holes in many of your comments. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/23152627/cowboys-patriots-and-redskins-are-nfls-most-valuable-franchises I do put down SMU (my one exception) ... but they have earned it... so many of them are arrogant SOBs for the most part and many constantly slam others (not just us) and have for years and years. . That will lose people's respect. -- If Houston goes to the Super-Bowl for the next 8 years and wins five of them ... (ie. until 2021) they will have as many appearances as Dallas and won as many .... looking forward to your brags in 2021.... I'm rooting for them if Cowboys don't go. I am 100% Texan and family has been for 140 years. . . ..

---Tex Schram is responsible for the "America's Team" tag for several reasons..... First Dallas historically sells more NFL items (coats, hats, etc.) than any other team (sometimes the last SB champion temporarily sells more) . Tex created the situation: . He got Dallas placed into the NFC east (permanently, somewhat legally blackmailed them by getting ownership of Redskin song), This put them playing in the largest media and highest populated market [ NY, Washington and eastern area of US and on their TV's regularly ] His also had the Cowboys doing summer camp on the west coast and playing some of those teams in pre-season games.... getting them exposure on west-coast TV also. At the time the Cowboys was created, they were the only NFL team in mid-America and Southern America [ Houston, Miami, & Denver were AFL, plus New Orleans, Atlanta, Tampa Bay didn't exist yet ] Tex set up an insanely large radio network in mid-America from Calf to the deep South (also Mexico and Spanish radio) plus was appearing on the TV everywhere a lot ... partly because of location and partly because they became successful..... and toss in they were being seen in the east because of league opponents. He even volunteered to have the Cowboys on TV every Thanksgiving knowing the exposure it would give Dallas nation-wide. Sometimes you even get fans because they don't like your opponent. Sometimes you get fans because you win.. people like to support the winner.. instead of being ID-ed with the losing teams. [ in playoffs or not.. usually they are in hunt and win more than 50% ] --Tex created Dallas as America's team.. they had fans on both coasts ... and especially in mid/southern America. toss they almost always wore white jerseys for a reason.. good guys wear white (subliminal) as Dallas did and even the star is a good symbol (lawmen) .. plus then people grew up wanting to be cowboys in that era... remember all the westerns on TV in that era. Last -- Landry was squeaky clean and had even been a hero Bomber pilot in WWII and later Staubach( Heisman-winner) had spent time in the Navy (also squeaky-clean family man) which not doubt created a few more fans for them. Even Bob Hayes had been an Olympic hero.. Walt Garrison (bull-rider) and Bob Lilly (West-Texan)even were real cowboys. Meredith was a folksy small-town guy and it showed and that continued as he became an announcer. The image had endured despite Jerry and his nutsy comments at times. Like Jerry or not ... he is a great promoter as well. ...which goes back to media claim ... don't care what you say about me... . just spell the name right. --Sorry Houston (in no Super-Bowls) ... Dallas is Americas team... fans everywhere !! (thanks to Tex, a marketing genius and being in the playoffs a lot) ... They have won as many Super Bowls as anyone and in more Super-Bowls (win or lose) than any other team.... Doesn't hurt any that Aikman, Moose, M.Irving, and others appear on TV a lot reminding America of the success of Dallas in the past.

We have to travel but they have one less day to prepare... Our game was Saturday ...... theirs was Sunday against a tough opponent. I think we get a close win. Frogs... not the doormat yet.... but their recruiting will slowly decline after they are not winning like they were.... I don't see a good future for them.

radio broadcast? ah ---- kntu radio .. found it.

. About all I can take of "Kardasians" was about 5 min a couple of times..... awful ... Maybe I should watch longer than 5-10 min of "Duck" .... however it seems very boring to me.... Can't understand what the fascination with it is. I've known a few similar people when I was a kid. maybe some people haven't. ...ESPN is more interesting. ( whatever program is on, and not all of them interest me either )
-
. Are you saying "Two and a Half Men" is not a good family program .... ?? Most programs that are on now would not see the light of day in the so-called wild 60's or even 70's. Still like to watch Andy Griffith once in a while... nothing like that anymore. One of my favorites that is not remembered that much is "Night Court"... strange humor. .

The Spread versus Pro Style
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Mean_Green09's topic in Mean Green Football
--Run the offense that fits the personal you have... and if you have a good-throwing type QB then throw and use the spread.. If you have "monsters" that can create holes ..run and a lot.. in any case you have to be able to do both some... Many successful teams do not look the same every week ... they emphasize whichever the opponent can't defend well. Running almost ever down is not as exciting but can be successful (ala Dickey era or especially D.Royal era) but throwing a lot can too (ala TxTech in Leach era). Tubberville at Tech was not liked much here in West-Texas because he ran so much and was not near as exciting or successful. But the bottom line is win... people like throwing the ball a lot but they like winning more. -
.. Highly agree... what people think is true often is not... the same with what some claim to be true. Project innocence has turned a lot of people loose because DNA shows they really weren't guilty.. Personally knew a teacher that was accused of rape with a student and his name and picture appeared on front page of local paper.. About 2-3 weeks later the girl confessed , wasn't him.. she had been with a boyfriend.. and was trying to say out of trouble. . I was once shot at by a " dumb" cop..... He thought I was a burglar, I was an night employee, didn't realize he was there. In todays world he would have been fired. My experiences tell me that don't assume what you hear at first or apparently see is always the truth or what is really happening... Even if true, this has really pointed out how colleges profit from many of their athletes.. They can sell his signature, jerseys etc. and make money with none of the profits going to that athlete. Yes, they do get an almost free education but that can be a small amount compared to what the college earns. A lot of students have jobs and earn nearly as much as athletes are "paid" (tuition etc.) to play sports. Most "earn" the tuition they receive and in some sports they put their body at some risk. Most earn with sweat every bit that they receive. ..

I don't know either.

I answered ... several independent producers... in the area have said this .... I am not sure these were the ones but BTA, CWEI, Henry Oil, and some others which I doubt you know of that are smaller producers and not retail people...These companies are worth 100's of millions so not really that small. I just don't remember which ones... Midland is an oil center and I don't remember which ones have been stating it... . About 20-25% of American oil comes from this area. Likely a lot of the producers oppose it because more oil available could mean a drop in oil prices ........ but that type of oil which would be transported is actually more expensive to refine...because it is considered very dirty... There are a lot more .. but here is one: Glen Perry, a petroleum engineer for Adira Energy, has warned that including the Alberta Clipper pipeline owned by TransCanada's competitor Enbridge, there is an extensive overcapacity of oil pipelines from Canada. After completion of the Keystone XL line, oil pipelines to the U.S. may run nearly half-empty. The expected lack of volume combined with extensive construction cost overruns has prompted several petroleum refining companies to sue TransCanada. You don't hear much about northern Alaskan oil field anymore ... they are not producing enough to keep those pipelines "safe" from freezing... oil from there is expensive to drill and get to market... [ tough environment ] Don't hear much about opening drilling in the Gulf off Florida coast anymore.... why?? ..increased American mainland production. Unlike earlier, most oil used in America is now produced in America. In fact some companies including Valero exports gasoline to other countries. (supposedly about 10% of their production) Read sources other than Fox. There are so many credible objections to it by those in the business. It just isn't needed at present plus the route is really the biggest objection other than environmentalist to that type of oil. ...READ real sources, not political ones. ... . Repeating a pipeline from here to the West coast was recently canceled ... almost did not even made the news. So you are an expert on the oil industry too??? Are you aware of Kinder-Morgan Energy which cancelled this ... not a retail company....not small either.. owns 51,000 miles of pipelines. http://fuelfix.com/blog/2013/05/31/kinder-morgan-shelves-plans-for-texas-to-california-freedom-pipeline/

--- Data indicates the world is getting slightly warmer... The largest indicator is ice disappearing and melting at poles and high elevations.. The entire argument is why??..... It might be natural and it might be caused by man ... no one is absolutely sure why ... but just in case maybe we should try to control what we can control... ---The warming likely will cause oceans to rise some... and weather to change.... and some places will get more rain or snow due to faster ocean evaporation and some places will get less and more heat.. Some supposedly experts claims storms will be more severe.. Might not want to buy a lot of land within a foot or so near sea level... the worse affected could be low elevation cities such as NYC that may have to construct seawalls to keep water back..
