We were the Death Knell: June Jones resigns.
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Christopher Walker's topic in Mean Green Football
.. No one wants to go where there is no fans ( coaches or players)... and that is even when they win....... Would not surprise me to learn ... the end of SMU football is coming... they will not consider dropping back and they will get killed this year and in an expensive travel conference with no fans attending. It won't be this year... but I can smell it coming.... They (and Rice and TCU somewhat) were highly criticized when the SWC conf came apart for providing few fans to games even then.... Even Arkansas mentioned it when they left a year or two earlier.... they were filling those stadiums ... not the locals.- 54 replies

Hey, it worked out great for us ------------ Absolutely agree .... that idiot decision allowed us to be admitted... which I doubt would have happened with them as a member ..... our being admitted hurt them even more.... "The ol Gray SMU Mare ain't what she used to be."... .... hahaha .
-
---Personally I think this is the end of them as a credible program.... Their attendance has been terrible and it will get worse after what happened the past two weeks and what is likely in the next two games.. A&M and TCU. Even our 5th string RB scored on them.... Most of Dallas area has little interest in them . Their travel costs in that conference will really eat at them as well.... leaving CUSA was the dumbest decision possible.
-
It defines one thing ... how bad SMU is and how far they have fallen.... It must really eat at their arrogant fans. They need to just just shut up... about everything... This year will get worse for them..Their attendance may be their players's parents and little more...
-
Probably a SMU guy .... used to having all the room in the world to park at their games.... hahaha..
-
Their fans were waiting for SMU's next game.... TEXAS A&M...... ..hahahaha... The betting line will have to be 60 (or more). Those fans mentioned above are the same ones that have trashed us for years and have no respect for us ..... too bad .... payback for their constant disrespect is tough for them to stomach... also good luck recruiting after the last two scores ... and it likely will get worse with A&M and TCU that show up next on their schedule especially with their chin on the ground....... Except for the one game ending throw ..... their total score is 88 - 0 . ....Don't you know their players will be excited to go to practice this week..!!!.... I hope no-one threw bottles or was behaving poorly .... just let them wallow in their humbling loss .... that is bad enough for them and their ego. ( had not seen that before typing ) .

. ---I will not disagree with you ...... wars on someones home turf is very difficult to completely win.... You can defeat their army as such. .... with superior weapons and numbers.... but can't control the citizens/locals who will fight back.... Same happened in Iraq somewhat .. note all the roadside bombs that occurred after their army was defeated and gone. ... . --- Never is the will to win of those who invade is as strong as those whose homeland has been invaded... especially true in today's world of weapons that don't require you to be face to face as in older times. The countries we "invaded" in WWII and also Kuwait wanted the other invaders out... so we were welcome and succeeded... --Part of the reason Germany had no fond memories of the Nazi is because Eisenhower forced people who lived near concentration camps to enter and personally to clean up the bodies, see the terrible conditions of living people, and mess that was there... They then realized how evil their government had been first hand. .. plus they had lost millions of citizens and their homeland was now a wreak due to their government's actions... they lost all will to fight for that government..... I knew one former German guy in my town that said he was the oldest living male in his entire family.. the rest were dead... he was 14. The will to fight was gone.... and not everyone there supported that government anyway or that non-stop propaganda about being superior or against people of a different religion that they were told...

---- The two largest reason wars are won are "numbers and weapons (technology) ... Russians turned the Germans back by losing millions of people (numbers) which they had more of. Germans in both wars started with an extreme advantage in weapons... In WWI Germans had many more machine guns in the beginning and even uniforms that we not bright colors which the French and British used in the beginning.,[ their crazy thinking was red did not show blood] Even in WWII German tanks had a 9 to 1 "kill rate against American Sherman tanks in tank warfare.. which ours were not well suited to tank warfare but good for only troop support... Theirs had thicker amour, more powerful guns, and ran on diesel and not gasoline... ours were often refered to as "Ronson lighters" after a cigarette lighter commercial that stated they lit up every time... because of using gasoline ours blew up easily... Also interesting their machine guns had barrels that could be removed quickly and replaced in seconds if they melted due to to excessive rapid fire, ours took about 30 minutes... Not good in combat, ours became useless quickly. Our planes at the start were very inferior ... but with time we caught up and exceeded them (in numbers as well). Tanks in WWI and planes when improved made trench warfare obsolete ... Technology again... and WWII ended with a couple of nukes (technology) which one else had.. They made the end come much more quickly and with less of lives on both sides which an invasion would have created. The fact that the British had newly developed radar (which Germany didn't realize existed) kept Britain from losing the "The Battle of Britain" because they always had their planes in the air when the Germans were arriving and not sitting on the ground to be destroyed. --A lot of these programs are very interesting and informative. ... and points WHY certain countries win and how.... . Just be thankful Germany did not wait to start WWII when they had better jets, better rockets, and even nuke weapons ... all of which they were working on then. Even in the American Revolution we were using long rifles which were accurate at distances the British muskets couldn't hit anything. Technology wins when numbers are not excessively slanted. Remembering a military quote I read once .. "90% of our military development budget is making our weapons 10% better'. Better wins .. even in western gunfight..10% faster/better usually wins.

--- I have been in France several times .. One lasting memory I had in 1989 was on a Rhine River ship and this guy saw we were Americans and yelled "Any Texans here?" ... I answered and he ( a Frenchman) did a quick fake gunfighter draw on me and then started talking ... Apparently his town had been liberated by a Texas unit in WWII and he was very appreciative and said he really liked them.. I've never had a bad experience with them... some Americans do but I think it is mostly the American's fault by having a bad or superior attitude .. No one likes that especially in their own country. If at Normandy... another cemetery that is impressive is the British one.... those tombstones all have a personal message from their family on them.. It is quite different and has a section of Germans also .... remember the Germans were retreating and were unable to bury their dead. The allies had to.. Never been in WWI sector looking around. --I can remember one rude waitress there... but I have had a few here too..... big deal.!! --I agree French have never fared very well against German armies in past 100+ years... but neither has Russians, Polish, British, and many other ones including us at times. We would not have won at Yorktown if the French navy had not been offshore keeping the British from being resupplied or evacuated... ... and they gave us the Statue of Liberty as well. A French/Texas pirate furnished New Orleans with cannons at the Battle of New Orleans as well ( it had been a French town until Napoleon sold it to us 10 years earlier) ... and the pirates manned them killing hundreds of British with grape-shot, nails, chains, and cannonballs (war is not pretty) .... They had warned us the British were offshore and about to attack. (Jean Lafitte) Jackson gets credit over a pirate but he had a lot of help... I have no French heritage... German heritage.

UNT Game Rumor from UT Longhorn Camp
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Don Allman's topic in Mean Green Football
---He made a very STRONG statement.. -
Houston defeated the Colts and Manning a few years ago with less than 50 yds. offence.... and I saw a HS playoff game where the winning team had NO earned first downs going into the 4th quarter (one by penalty)... they led 14-0 and won 14-0 .. [ scored on punt return and a 4 yd "drive" after a fumble]. Even Yesterday the Cowboys were behind 14-0 and the Raven had made zero offensive yards. and years ago I remember I Philly losing to Dallas 21-0 after about 5 min.. and had zero yards and had never made it to 2nd down. [ Dallas drove and scored at beginning, 7-0 , Philly fumbled kickoff 14-0, then then fumbled on first down hand-off after a kickoff... 21-0 ] Weird things happen ... never say it is impossible ... even it it looks improbable. .

---Agree with above post..... I am not sure how pointing out us trying to "fix" Iraq and also Nam didn't work out well for us.... is considered political.... One party can be blamed for one and the other for the other... The whole point was ... let them solve their own problems (includes Ukraine) ..... humanitarian help or stopping slaughter is entirely different... but don't try to tell them who to put in charge of their country.. Bush Sr. (GOP) did the right thing when he freed Kuwait but left Saddam alone... Bush Jr. (GOP) should have done the same.. left him alone..... How is that political, both GOP even same family?? We should keep our nose out of Ukraine as much as possible at least militarily.. .... besides there are as lot of other bad situations in the world as well and we are leaving them alone. Iran and Hugo Chavez constantly insulted us and we did nothing ... why Saddam ..??. no other country at the time believed the WMD "tale" and no terrorist acts to us came from there. Perhaps a little interference in Central America would have helped and not led to the immigration problems of all these kids... but we didn't. We went to the other side of the world instead .. and into a large country ... not some small one nearby where we might have changed things some and that really affected us here. . -

--- True Rudy ... but it is not our responsibility to run or control THEIR country... but we removed a government (a bad one but stable) and what resulted is an even worse situation. 10,000's have died as a result. Saddam was not sending terrorist abroad... no terrorists acts against us came from there and the WMD claim was bogus just as European countries said it was. ISIS would likely not even exist now if we had not done what we did... Saddam (bad as he was) would have not let it get started. Back to Kiev and Ukraine.... it is a bad and sad situation... but it is not up to us to control or fix that country either. We didn't fix things in Iraq very well or Nam either. -

SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Cerebus's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
-- My point was missed ... there are just too many of these situations to expect us fix the world's problems. Yes Nigeria is not in the immediate region, I realize that... but the capture of those girls was also Islamic related which is big issue in much of those countries..... . Ukraine is more about ethic groups it seems and not religion... but that is also a big issue in Iraq, Israel, Gaza and somewhat Syria also. . We "tried " (unfortunately) to fix Iraq and now the situation is much worse than when Saddam was there... His way may have been the only way (unfortunately) to rule a country with so much hatred in both religion (to each other even) and ethic groups.. Many of us feared after seeing what happened in Iran that what replaced Saddam might be worse ... and it is. I have no problem with what we are doing Iraq now ... but Ukraine is not just a terrorist group really.... it involves another major country.. We failed in Iraq because we did not have put a stable government in place (not sure it was even possible due to ethic and religious differences)..... and it did not take a few days or weeks as Cheney claimed it would... That worked in WWII when the former government still existed and took over again... We had no real plan for Iraq's government after Saddam plus did not understand this is an area not accustomed to Democracy..... Ukraine is bit different but it is not our responsibility to fix them either.. .. Our "fixes" don't work well when a decent former government is not available to take over and what is there doesn't seem to be well supported. ... this started in Kiev... not eastern Ukraine or even Crimea....... Our "fixes" didn't work in Iraq and not in Nam either. In Kuwait.. yes.. the old government was available. . -

-- That whole area is one HUGE mess... Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, Israel, Gaza, and even Northern Africa and Nigeria are not very stable... Don't expect us to "fix" everything... in fact we caused the Iraq mess and massive killings taking place because we removed Saddam..... . He was bad, very bad... ... but better than the religious fanatics that have taken over... His way may have been the only way to "control" that place with religious groups that hate each other... even inside of Islam. . [ religious fanatics of any group are not reasonable and very emotional ] Nigeria area is the most scary (where girls were captured by religious fanatics) .... if a mass exodus erupts... Ebola could be spread ... that could reduce the Earth's population greatly. -
--Saw Brelan's catch ... not an easy one... S.D. used a lot of receivers and mostly with 1-2 catches.

As expected .. and Reagan wasn't responsible for 200+ Marines being killed Beirut either about 30 years ago. No difference.

. I am having no problem ... It is those who move here and get a low paying job or jobs that rent takes most of their income.. . Traffic and especially crazy drivers are a pain to me.. My three kids all live in north Dallas area (Frisco/Allen) ... I think it is crazier here. The big difference that is really very noticeable here is how many pickups there compared to here... many times what is there....and often large ones with many with steel front ends. You really lose if they hit you.

I live in Midland... housing costs are ridiculous...especially apartment rent... For those who own their homes ..... making it ok is pretty easy... Every place in town has "help wanted" in the window and even burger places usually pay about $12-14 per hour.. The real problem ... where to live. Traffic is getting worse and many of the newcomers are terrible drivers.... if a light is changing think twice and look behind you before you stop... the idiot behind may not be... lots of rear-end collisions and too bad if it is a pickup with a steel "cow-catcher front-end" and there are a lot of those. School district/hospital is having a tough time... hard to get them and tough to find place to live they can afford plus once here they often "smell" oil money and quit for better pay. Unemployment about 2% ... and most unemployed are not people you would like to here... they have trouble passing drug or background checks usually,. Right now things are better for restaurants because there are a lot of college kids home.... when they leave.... it will be tough to find people to fill those jobs. A student of mine in a college math class that works for an oil company said they had 40 people apply for a job.... none passed the background check... Another student said they had 14 apply , 12 flunked, one had another job before they interviewed him, and the only person interviewed and hired did not show up on Monday .. Someone else offered him a better job before then.. . Perry is always bragging about how good our Texas economy is ( yet had budget problems.. does that make sense? ) ...well unless he is God and put oil in the ground... he has zero to do with what is happening in West Texas and even Texas in general....
-
. Nearly a 1000 years ago Europe had Crusades to free the area from Islam ... they are still fighting over it..... don't expect any lasting answer anytime soon.. More people have been killed in the name of various religions (mostly by fanatics) than for any other reason... As long religious fanatics exist ... the killing will take place.... The Mideast is the worst but they haven't had the market cornered on it ... [ Salem trials, Protestant/Catholic wars, Inquisition, Holocaust, Jonestown etc. ]

...It demonstrates how uninformed a lot of people are... Many walk into a voting booth absolutely clueless... You just hope these guys just stay home on election day.....Doubt that anyone here that works with the public a lot is surprised by this. I have walked out of parent conferences in the past at times thinking the kid is a genius compared with the parents I just talked to.....

CNN reporting that earlier ( on European TV ) it had been reported a Russian rocket system had been "stolen" and not recovered... Perhaps this is it.. Question is who fired it... experts claiming whoever did had to have been trained on have to use it.. Apparently no debris evidence exists yet to confirm what brought it down.
