NTvs. LSU tailgating postcard
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to MeanGreenQueen's topic in Mean Green Football
----I live in one of the most rabid football fan areas in the country, Midland /Odessa, (West-Texas) as in "Friday Night Lights". I stand behind my comments. CONSISTANT misbehavior by drunks should not be tolerated. Drunkeness in not a good excuse nor is the excuse "the fans in next state are no bettter". -
NTvs. LSU tailgating postcard
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to MeanGreenQueen's topic in Mean Green Football
-----Drinking and drunks may be the reason and explains the behavior... but it not excusable. If that were true then drunk people who have car wreaks would have an excuse and would go free. LSU needs to get it under control. ----I was at Texas game last year and I was not happy the final game outcome but the Univ. of Texas fans I met showed class. -
Back of press box at Fouts
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to andrewrozell's topic in Mean Green Football
---Dangerous-------absolutely..... if the sign is attached poorly and falls and hurts someone. Otherwise no. ---If you you don't believe in (or respect) yourself than don't expect anyone else to either. The only sign that is "dangerous" or undesirable is one that puts down some other team, not anything that promotes us and is realistic and true. _________ RE: Plum: I am pretty sure he passed Freshman English and did not fail to turn in his writing assignments........... Now to convince the players that we really can win these games. As for LSU remember Pittsbourgh scored 21 points last week on zero offensive yards.....Things happen. -

And he sounds as if he has the ability to stay eligible. Another plus in my book, he has West-Texas roots... we like winning out here. -
Politically Correct Pistol Pete

-----More political and social correctness............Repeating........We will all have Fruits and Veggies as mascots before too long. -----I have two favorite teams.... The Green Beans and whoever plays Horse-Parley this week. -
Houston Radio-CUSA Champ to Houston Bowl

----Maybe SMoo is like Terrel Owens... where-ever they are they want to run things ---but instead ruin things. After all CUSA head-quarters is now in Dallas so Smoo may think they are in charge now. They have a history of making their own rules. -
----What is bad for the belt is getting blown-out by non-conf. teams. More teams (not just us) need to be competitive in non-conf. games. Troy helped us some last year with wins over Marshall and Missouri and a close loss to LSU. Our big loss to UT and to Baylor were strikes against the Belt.... We were best of the Belt and we took losses that made us look bad.

North Texas A Challenge For MTSU
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Agree..... I don't think anyone wants a pass-happy team but flexibility is needed when the running game is stalled. We actually made a lot of yards passing last year which helps keep the opposition defense from stacking up the line of scrimmage. This year is really a question mark with so many new starters. We may do ok in week one but MTSU is the game that will likely start telling us about the season. A slow start is explainable this year with so much inexperience in the beginning. -

1---yes, 2---yes (you would think the school with the large military corps would have cancelled) 3---Baylor, North Texas and A&M each have one. [singletary, Joe Greene and Yale Lary] UT has two players-[Earl Campbell and Bobby Layne, plus Tom Landry and Tex Schram], UTEP- Don Maynard, TCU- Bob Lily and Sammy Baugh, 4---yes, UT and A&M 5---Sam Houston State 6---yes , UTEP won and Cincinnatii of the MVC won in 1962, 1963 while a member with North Texas. The SWC had a near miss when Arkansas won after leaving the SWC, (Basketball in SEC, and widespread and constant cheating in the SWC were reasons they chose to leave) Houston made the final four several times but lost them all. -

3 Year Program Analysis (from CFN)
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Eagle-96's topic in Mean Green Football
This system can't be all bad......they have SMU at 112 of 117 teams. -
As my father said, "Two people can keep a secret, if one of them is dead." Fran should have not told anyone except maybe an involved coach. They should have just worked on it as if it might happen somewhere in the game.
-
---The starting QB at TexTech is likely going to be a red-shirt freshman (Graham Harrell) and the other option has very limited experience...... and that is a "pass-happy" team. We will do ok. The good news for them they start with 3 rather easy opponents at home, the bad news for us is we are on the road at LSU. Smith went into the Texas game with no experience and did fairly well and we eventually won the conference. Nothing is impossible.... did you see the Steelers 21 points on zero offense last night. ---We lost our two QBs that should be available due to a death and not taking care of business in the classroom. The last may be a blessing if he can't do and think better than that.
-
Close either way if the first quarter goes well... if it doesn't we are likely to get our chins down and get stomped by 30 or so..

----The probablity of winning is not good but losing is not an absolute either. Things happen... such things as happened in Pittsbrough last nite. McNabb's first pass was a Steeler TD, then the Steeler ran a punt back for a TD, then the Steelers ran back a kickoff for a TD. That is 21 points and ZERO yards of offense. Our chances are not good, but neither do I consider them hopeless and have never understood people who surrender before they start. ----That was a game involving people who are professionals whose performance means money. College kids most of which will not be pros can do worse and especially do get down on themselves when things don't go right. ---I am a West Texan. The chances of striking oil in a remote area out here is usually poor but out here they don't just up , they try, sometimes they succeed. I think the same attitude goes for West Texas Football teams as well. ---Odessa/Midland will be on ESPN tommorrow in "50 states in 50 days"... that is why, we don't just throw in the towel until it IS hopeless...
-
Probably Branch.... about five minutes into the game he fumbled a punt when he was hit. OU got 3 out of the deal.
-
---Is Moore's absense tempory or does it mean he is gone for the year or extended time? ---Once the season starts some coaches rarely use full team contact for that reason, to avoid injuries.... As Gordan Wood stated-- by gameday they are then anxious to hit someone. (and not beat up)

How Many Out of Conference games ...
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree with you.... Tulsa could be an easy one but expect LaTech to be a struggle but win. If we hang tough the first quarter against LSU it will be an interesting close game... if not, we take a beating. KSU, I would like to say we win but I think it will be a close loss. A little luck (turnovers etc.) may decide this one. Not on list but MTSU looks spooky....... it is an early season game (we get better as the season goes plus we have lots of inexperience), and it is at their place. I am hoping they don't live to their potential, they rarely do. ___________________________________________________ -
---Texas will be featured on Wednesday evening and I think Thursday morning. They are concentrating on HS Football and broadcasting segments from Odessa Permian. Many well known Texans will be featured in broadcast as they have with all other states.

They can't go where they want to as long as they sit out a year of A-I ???? I thought they could but it would cost them a year of eligibility....
-
The can of worms has been opened.... (or Pandoras box) sic em MEAN GREEN BEANS!!!... we are all going have fruits or veggies for Mascots---[please no endangered species of plants.] Game: of the year: The Texas A&M Veggies vs the SMU Horse Parsley!! Weren't Sooners actually crooks, they "stole" land. Maybe Alabama is safe unless the enironmentalists remember Tide is harmful to lakes and rivers.
-
----New Coach, new system, new QB and now a new running back.... and the season starts in 3 weeks. hmmmm. ---We need to hang on that first quarter and get a decent start to make them think too much and make them and their fans wonder about themselves.

Muts Prez&Sun Belt Rep supports mascot ban
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
----Personally I think he is being sarcastic....... I think he thinks the situation is ridicious.... By mentioning the Fighting Irish which he knows will cause extreme resistence he seems to be trying to kill this stupidity. ---He seems to be thinking that if this goes through then we will go after some other names as well which could cause some other schools to back off this non-sense and support the "leave them alone view". ---Of course I might be wrong but that that is what I am thinking. He knows his mascot is rather untouchable but there are a lot of others that could be "had" if this goes any further, including the probably the biggest of football names, Notre Dame's Fighting Irish... -
COBBS & THOMAS ON THE FRONT PAGE OF USA TODAY!
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Baby Arm!'s topic in Mean Green Football
---I know NFL teams do very good research but this should give Cobbs little more help to be noticed, if nothing else they will now know he is on everyone's watch list which could help move him up in the draft some assuming his season goes pretty much as expected. I am still curious what type offense will we see? I would not be surprised to see the old 70's era pro set used some with two backs.
