  1. I don't know where to begin but their"quick kicks". They were on fourth down and lined up in a non kick formation. They really were no surprize either since the yardage was long and the position on the field was too far from the endzone. We should have had someone back somewhat. They should have not been successes. Dumb deals, and fell for them. Why where we, known for running throwing so much on first down? We often threw passes to the side usually to players who were behind the line of scrimage and they just loved us to complete them and was would get tackled for a loss. I complained about NO not throwning short passes to back up the defenses but throwing into the backfield does not back up anyone and wasn't an issue anyway. We had way too many penalities and many were 15 for unsportsman penalities.. Stupid. It seems every time we moved the ball well we swould have a penality, the long run Cobbs had to the 3 was wiped out by a penality on the other side of the fiield, did not even effect the play's outcome..dumb. We once had a fourth and 55, largely because of penalities. The game was lost but the near the end we were attemping to throw, calling time-out and were at least 70 yards away. Just use running plays and end the misery.....but we didn't and gave up a final insulting touchdown. It many ways this was worse than Texas last year, this was a home game and besides UT was very, very good team. In this case we (in my opinion) made a lot of really bad decisions. The penalities were killing us and were happening just we had some success but we could never recover. I did not think effort was a problem but many decisions were really awful. The offensive line really had problem it seems but that at least isn't decision or dumb penality related. This loss will really hurt attendence from here out.
  2. The "NORTH TEXAS" Fight Song appears in my signature.... different site with words and "Bouncing Eagle"
  3. That is the actual attendence for the TCU/SMU game??? Good lord, every AAAAA HS in West Texas will exceed that one. Abilene/Brownwood (AAAA) had over 10,000. No wonder TCU lost, they were depressed after seeing what "great" support they had after upsetting OU.
  4. CHRIS SIMS ---- He provided us a lot of entertainment running around with North Texas guys chasing him and tossing him on the ground. LOL.
  5. ---So it was Captain Cane that was always hurrying the people to get into a shelter.... thus the people became "Hurricanes". HMMMMMM .. I like your version, I had heard the gold part came from the fact they disovered gold while digging shelters. ...... LOL ---Let's send them back to the Ice Age this Saturday..
  6. ---One thing that I observed is that until lately there has only been only THREE division one schools in Florida splitting up the Florida talent. Now there is a bunch of new ones that have appeared.... CFU, USF, FIU, and FAU., so now there are 7. Miami does a lot of out of state recruiting in addition. --- Texas has always had a lot more division colleges (10) than Florida plus Texas gets recruited by about everyone. Personally I think the rankings of the big-3 Florida schools are about to sink some with all of the newer schools appearing and taking quite a bid ot the talent from them. You can bet Spurrier will hit the state big as well. California only has 5? division I schools which helps them. --- I doubt that the Florida schools will be able to outdo us much plus we are now recruiting better in Texas since the breakup of the SWC, going back to D-I, and our recent run of success. We now need to get a better stadium situation and more name opponents at home .
  7. ---Summary, I found it from the "chopped" link. -- In 1922 they were hoping to blow away opponents and chose not to use Tornados and they needed a team name after using several others earlier when the school itself had several name before uniting as one college ---Their Hall of Fame (athletics) has several names that I recognize well.. The link below lists Bill Anderson who had 502 yards passing in one game. He had a very good NFL career at Cincinnati. I am pretty sure I saw the game he mentioned in Denton against us. It was a very odd game.. Both teams had passing teams and about 100 passes were thrown.. [ Anderson QB for Tulsa, Carlin for NTSU ] This was extremely unusual in a "3 yards and a cloud of dust" era and I think it set an NCAA record at the time. The 'number of passes' happened largely because when there were two extreme passing teams, the game is extremely long time-wise. The clock stops on every incompletion and there are a lot of passing plays that end out of bounds because the ball is thrown wide. That is one reason TexTech games are so long time-wise and the scores get so high, there is a lot of time to score. It was an very entertaining game. Data warehouse shows the score as 27-20. You would think the score would be higher. ---The week after that, NT played Arkansas and the set their all-time record for passing yards allowed. I am sure that record is long gone now since passing is much more common place now. The MVC was a "pass-happy" league at the time and is much more like what seen now than what was commonplace then. http://tulsahurricane.collegesports.com/ge...billyguy00.html
  8. ---I think there is one automatic win in existence. In two weeks Texas-Tech plays Indiana State.. The problem is that Indiana State lost last week, by 32 points to St. Francis (of Indiana) which is only a NAIA team which is probably about like losing to McMurry. If that isn't an automatic win I have never seen one. I don't think they could lose that one if they tried.
  9. Get real--- ---Florida Atlantic was supposed to be a pushover too. ...... and I am sure no one at TCU had ANY repect for SMU... and we know how that turned out. There is no such thing as an "automatic" win. ---Last week no one gave in the NFL would have given Miami, San Fran. or even New Orleans a reasonable probablity of winning... but they did.
  10. Harvard threw pie pans from the Frisbee pie company... They have been redigned and are now called Frisbees......As long as they dont land on the field... no problem.
  11. --Ricky Williams (football player) is a stoner, right..... does that mean he has musical or artsey talent. ?????? ---Mathematical logic: Stoner does not imply artsey-musical person and Artsey/musical does not imply stoner. ---There are some in every group who are so "involved in their subject" they don't realize they are other things in the world happening and franky don't care. Michael Irving probably would guess Johann Sebastian Bach was a kicker from Germany .
  12. ---I think if you look closely at families that have people with really good math skills you will usually discover that there are members of that family with very good music skills also. They may not pursue them as a profession but they often play instruments, sing, etc., for fun. It is definitely true in my family.
  13. ---Beware of Mills.... he can catch the ball.
  14. -----How about reams of paper... to make paper airplanes........ Can't eat, drink or explode them and they certainly aren't tortillas . We are Eagles we should fly something.....[ plastic coke lids?? ]. They may wish tortillas were back... at least birds eat and get rid of them........ LOL......
  15. ---We play at Fouts-- and the players are 275 yards away from the fans... We need two foot numbers in order to read them. From our point of view all players look like midgets. ---The uniform design is no big deal... winning is. Actually as far as uniforms go I am more interested in the female cheerleader uniforms. I plan on taking a look at them this Saturday.... hope we have 25,000 more people taking a look at them also. ------LOL.
  16. You just don't get inside sourses this reliable very often.
  17. ---It will be close..... I think the deciding faactor will be can we contain their passing game. They appear to be better than I expected. ---Our Offensive line need to open some holes.... The O-line is hard to evaluate yet because MTSU had a excellent defensive front (Littlejohn was a monster) and we did not do all all that great the first half opening holes... _________________- SMU/TCU.... How did that happen????? SMU loses to Baylor while TCU looks great agains OU and then the next week TCU loses to SMU...... Proof that upsets do happen and the best team doesn't always win.
  18. Lee us see... TCU defeats OU and it did not look like a fluke. then they lose to SMU and it did not look a fluke too much either. Upsets happen.... Maybe we will have a good day when we play LSU... things happen... despite the pessimism of some on this board.
  19. I think the announcers had one thing absolutely right... MTSU went in trying to avoid a loss and fearing they would lose... UNT went in hoping to win and expecting to win. I have seen that a lot. I went to a HS that won state 7 times and my hometown almost always had a hopes to win and expects to win attitude while it was obvious that our opponent often had the opposite view. It is really noticable in the final quarter when the game is on the line.... They usually screw-up and we got more determined. You can usually guess the winner at this point with how they walk around and act..... with confidence or frustration.
  20. ---Most business, math-science, engineering people tend to to sports fans.... we tend to have majors that are goal-driven and competive. Some majors just aren't that competive and a lot of the people in those are not as interested. There are exceptions in both groups. If you doubt just hang a faculty lounge/workroom and see who is talking sports or at some other job site. In a fastasy league I run 13 of the 14 members have math/science/computer/business degrees... Others I have asked from other depts don't seem to be very interested as a rule. They don't seem to be as competitive nor do they seem to tolerate kidding as much either.... ----Liberal/conservative attitudes are meaningless.. some of the most conservative people I know think athletics is a total waste of money and effort..... and the same applies to some of those with liberal attitudes, they think money should be spent elsewhere.
  21. I just learned something.... conservative means football fan and liberal mean anti athletics.... I now know Michael Irvin, Jim McMahan, Deon Sanders, Jim Brown are conservatives and I had thought otherwise. Meanwhile Spike Lee, Jack Nicholson, Garth Brooks, and others, who are definitely creative and therefore obviously liberals--- must hate sports. I am not sure what to make of NFL players that are rather creative... and there a quite a few of them who act, paint, perform music or have written material not sports related. .... Damn liberals...everything is their fault. LOL. As Keshawn Johnson stated yesterday in an ESPN interview, "Don't sweep us all together with a broom , we are not all the same". Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, and Lincoln were definitely liberals --they supported change (revolution and more social rights) which no repectable conservative would support at the time.. Q.E.D. (agree?)
  22. --- It was class and it was smart..... MTSU players realized what happened would be a lot less hostile and this defuses problems. I have been around for a while I can remember seeing players getting hurt in meaningless plays... most were accidental but some I suspect were the result of get-even attitudes. ---Besides we play them again next year, no sense in doing something to motivate them more for revenge.
  23. They are GREEN and WHITE...... I am satisfied. GO GREEN !
  24. Little John very much impressed me. If he kkeps it up his namewill appearin the NFL draft. MTSU has absolutely no luck when playing us. They are cursed.
  25. Kansas State will be undefeated when we play them..... they have no game next week.
