UNT vs. SMU, who will win
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
---The "group" that hates SMU the most are those of us who were alive to remember when they "shot down" our bid to enter the SWC which changed our athletic history "big time". We have also enduring years of insults from their officials in the media (especially in DMN) and their arrogance especially when they have nothing to be arrogant about. Most of all are the times when they claim they have the only "whatever" program in the metroplex when they know very well we have the same program and often a more successful one. -
--- I-AA period was a dark period in North Texas history.... BUT at least we survived and made it back to I-A. UT-Arlington and Lamar as a result of being dropped back then dropped football completelyand West Texas (A&M now) dropped down several levels to a non-schlorship level....

Who's got the best looking REAREND?

---Most--- That is the problem.... not the one that ticketed me for going 55 when I was going less than 30. [it was later determined he was measuring in KPH, not MPH and he could not recognize speeding, OR the one that me me a speeding ticket at 4:28 when the school speed zone that expired at 4:30.... It was after 4:30 on my watch which was set with the school bells where I worked OR the one that took a pot shot over my head at me one night and carried me off in handcuffs when I was on the job (I was college age, working at 4:00 AM and tending refigeration equiptment for Swift packing Co.) . He apparently thought I was breaking in. Most reasonable ones would not write a ticket there are a few... good luck. -
---I can't believe yawl are picking on poor Maurice.... after all he is A.D.D and bipolar and "It is not really his fault." If you don't believe that, then just ask his mother. Besides he was home reading his Bible every time that he was falsely accused of those other mean things. His Mom said so!

Who's got the best looking REAREND?

---I think that it is actually illegal to can alter plates in ANY way. I doubt that any policeman would do anything about it since there would be no illegal intent on your part but it would give them a reason to give you a bad time if they so wished. I see a lot of "longhorn" stickers placed on plates and it seems very little if anything is done about it. I have seen it in print that it is illegal also. ---Perhaps Emmitt or some one else knows more about it will post, but I would wait a bit until I had more info. -
When I was at NTSU (UNT) the college "chartered" a train to Wichita State for a football game. The next year a train was chartered to Waco (Baylor) for a basketball game.

---How much "Kickapoo Joy Juice" have they been drinking??? It would not surprise me a lot to see UNT, SMU, Tulsa, Rice, Houston, Texas State, UTEP, LLU, and perhaps another college or two ( TCU or NMSU? ) to eventually get together but never those groups mentioned. CUSA and the Belt both look a bit unstable to me and I am not convinced the Big East which is so large is either which could cause changes to everyone else. They have a football group and a basketball only group. The above group I mentioned would provide local opponents, should improve attendence for everyone and increase fan interest inside the state and region. The ACC and SEC will change very little if any. Vandy (the most likely) isn't going to kill the money milkcow and the rest like having one team that they are almost certain to defeat. I think my grouping is actually fairly possible.... That would add UNT and LLU, from the Belt plus Tx-State to what is now CUSA west.----and the CUSA east could add from the remaning Belt teams --most likely, Middle Tenn, FAU, FIU, ASU, and Troy. Both groups would be more regionallized and would create more fan interest and improve attendence for most. I would think that each part would have a new conf name, or at least one of them would.

Texas State ASG wants I-A football
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to BobcatKing's topic in Mean Green Football
I am for it. We need more in-state and regional opponents. Another thread was comparing attendence over the years and claiming we aren't making progress. One thing to consider is that some of those years we were a SouthLand member and that we had in-state opponents that would bring fans, at least more than most Sunbelt teams will bring. At present almost all fans that attend are UNT fans. Rival fans present also increase interest in the games. ULL (who has a pretty good sports history) is really our only nearby conference opponent at the moment, La- Monroe is fairly close but doesn't generate much fan interest and they don't even play us in basketball.. UT could care less if Tx-State becomes I-A. They are so big and successful that Tx-State being I-A will have no effect on them..... unlike SMU (jerks) who thinks we are a distraction from them especially if we compete against them. I don't see any down-side to us, better attendence for us by playing them and more interest inside of the State and region because of closeness and close alumi contact. The only possible downside could be competiton for athletes but that could be offset by more interest which could pull some from other Texas I-A schools. Unrelated but anyone get the College Data Warehouse website to load... I can't-- to check how many times we have played each other... I think Tex-State is our "most played opponent" in football. -
What if Marcus Vick opted to play for UNT.
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to fan19740's topic in Mean Green Football
---I don't want Vick or anyone like him that paints us in a bad light. We are an academic situation first and not a professional sports one. Example: Miami has a winning football program but it is tainted by the number of outlaw types and total dumbies that have attended there. In their case I will admit the QBs have been good and do have a good image but the rest of the group is considered a pretty outlawish group. I and most people doubt Miami is all that good of a academic place, just a football machine with no morality. ---I do view pro-players and programs a lot differently in many ways since it is a money driven (for profit) situation. I still have no love for TO "ME" Owens and consider him a total fool. I really doubt that bring in ME will be good for Dallas in the long run. I expect him to disrupt and destroy the team that is there, plus even if they win a few more games I doubt that will help any on fan support or the bottom line which the NFL makes a fortune in NFL products. --- Those who credit ME with Phiily's success are totally blind and are ingoring reality. Philly had made the NFL finals before he came there plus the year they made the Super Bowl they played much of the end of their Super-Bowl season without him, maybe 6-7 games. They even won all the playoff games (which they had not done the two years before) to get to the Super Bowl without him in uniform. The first game he played in since October was the Super Bowl which they lost.....So... how did he get them into the Super Bowl which some claim..... that is crazy logic. ---I doubt he will keep his mouth shut, he is too stupid to do otherwise. ... back to the topic.... I do not anyone associated with UNT that is as stupid as Vick and can't stay out of trouble. -
Sounds as if some on this board has as much contempt for the Southland as the Big XII (and some others) do for the SunBelt. Those who in live in glass houses should not throw rocks. Think about it. At the selection "party" on TV, many announcers were thrashing the MVC (Missouri Valley). Now Bradley and Wichita are in the Sweet-16 (both have been in final-4 several times). Remember UNT was a member of that conference until about 1975 when we decided to leave for greener pastures (hopefully the SWC). Louisville, Cinncinatti, and Memphis also left the MVC at the same time and formed the Metro which became CUSA and we did not join them. We were in the toughest Basketball conference in America then (UCLA was the best team but the MVC was the best conf). Don't even try to argue ACC, SEC or SWC.... they had no black players until 1970 or later in most cases UCLA and the MVC was recruiting the Southern states blind.. That situation will never happen again nor will a run like UCLA's either largely because of the situation that existed.

VERY DARK CLOUDS COMING TO DFW
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
He has ruined every team he has been on. He is a jerk. T.O. is all about ME. In fantasy football for years I would not pick him or the QB that threw to him. That is the only player that I felt that way about. I just converted to a Houston-Texan or someone else (NYG?) fan if this is true. We hope that Dallas ( not we anymore) also signs a kicker whose only duty is to kick ME Owen's rear end every few minutes just for fun..... plus Jerry Jones too if he appears on the field. -
Hope you Cowboy fans like T.O.
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to GoMeanGreen1999's topic in Mean Green Football
If ME Owens (T.O.) becomes a Cowboy then it is going to be "Cowboys who??" around this house... ie. Go Texans maybe even the Giants. Long live George Teague and Emmitt Smith.!!! -

BANGS.???? hmmmmm. -
---Really liked the first part of the article. Arrogance by us toward the Belt caused a lot of the problems. Most on the board and also probably players and coaches also think we are much better than the rest of league and just need to show up to win. It doesn't work that way. We need to get our head on straight, respect our opponents and prepare well for them. Maybe they (we) figured that out after losing nine (9) games including five to our "inferior" Sun-Belt opponents. ---He also points out the obvious..... we need "to be able" to throw before the running game is effective. We don't have to throw a lot but be capable enough to keep the opponent backed off the line of scrimmage so the running game has a prayer of success. --- Good teams don't constantly draw stupid penalities. An lesser player is better to have on the field than a better one if he does't commit all the drive killing penalities or in the case of defense give the opponent a first down and keep their drive going or letting them get close enough to get field goals. Show some discipline and intelligence. --- I liked the article... Discipline starts on the sideline and in practice and let the players know they are going to be sitting if they can't show "some restraint of their conduct and play" and not get penalized. _________________ PS: The correct term is Write-up not Right -up. I think the UNT English dept. would agree and cringe at the sight of that.

Texas' passion for footbal can cut both ways
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
---With 20 million people in Texas there are going to be a few crazies. He would have likely shot or stabbed someone else for something else (a barking dog or perceived personal insult?) if not for football. Football did not make this guy nuts. -
---As long as TCU is sucessful and can afford the travel, they will stay put. Rice is shakey because they are so small and may not be able to stay put. Memphis and UAB are the most likely two to go elsewhere because they usually have a great basketall program and a rather good football program. If this ever somewhat happens I expect LLU in the mix on the western side instead of some those listed and maybe Middle Tennesse on the Eastern side.. I would even settle for a league without TCU and perhaps Memphis or UAB. ---Personally I expect the Big East to split eventually... too many teams (16)... and too much talent in basketball for everyone to do well. I think it will split into two groups... those that play football and those that don't. That could cause the next round of realienment with Memphis or UAB joining some of them.. ---I like the helmit logo above.... We need some consistantancy.. like Tech, UT and A&M with a similiar logo year after year. North Texas has always been in the name and I expect it always will--- thus the NT fits well. ---Please beat SMU and do repectable against UT with their unknown QB.

I did not create this but this appears on the Basketball board and almost no one seems to be reading it anymore. Ten people have joined. _____________________________________________ From: NT-Eagle08 If anyone is interested in doing the March Madness Pick'em game on yahoo.com, I have gone ahead and created a group to where members on the board can join to compete against one another. It's a private league so here is the info: Group ID: 2371 Password: gmg Yahoo! Tournament Pick'em Also if you could when you go ahead and sign up, be sure to put your username as your team name.

Not a North/South flip... it would be correct.

My endurance with this program is waning
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
We have lost good assistant coaches to other colleges including UCLA that paid more and provided more coaching status. Money is an issue but not the entire issue. I don't disagree on what you are saying about getting more students involved and interested... got any suggestions instead of complaints..??? -
My endurance with this program is waning
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Agree on the community, but many would be more involved if the programs were more successful which also means more name opponents. I am guessing those promises require more money........ some more money has come in but not near enough to meet our hopes and his promises. Question : Aren't we better off than were in 2000. Maybe we should have improve quicker but with the exception of 2005 in football things have improved. I live in West Texas and I can assure you NT appears more in the newspapers out here than it was doing before then.
