  1. ---I sure hope the O-line does better this time than they did at UT in 2004. The Horns just went right through them like they were blocking dummies. It was spooky and gave the QB and RBs no chance. That was one case that no game plan could have done much.
  2. ---We are number 3 in enrollment, I suppose that is what he meant by attendence. We are definitely not #3 in football game attendance. ---The is absolutely BS and and an insult, are the directors SMU grads?? There are ten division I universities in this state and nine are eligible to be invited. This is a pile of horse manure. Someone should register a complaint about this and point out that "9 out of 10 fact" to them. The last time I looked we are in Texas as well. It is unlikely that we would be invited but all I-A universities in Texas should be considered as a posisble invitee. ---Different subject but West Texans are not too happy about the new HS deal [Texas Bowl???] to have the title game in San Antonio (or Houston) every year. Our travel expenses are terrible anyway but this assures a lot of eastern high-schools an almost home game and assures West Texans another 300 mile (500+ if Houston) trip and a huge burden on the fans and will decrease attendence by WT fans. [curse East Texans and big city folks again]. Maybe we will show up wanting a lot of revenge... maybe that is why WT wins teams win so much [see Midland Lee, Permian etc.], we have a bad attitude after the long trip and want revenge.
  3. That does not say much for our university's school of advertising and marketing. You would think someone would do a little better.
  4. ---Unfortunately this is likely going on quite a bit and often the university has absolutely no knowledge of it occuring. (many are likely never discovered) They should get supicious however when a player with little money shows up with a new or really good car and other items. The same thing happened about 10-15 years ago to A&M... little work and really good "pay" for some plays from Dallas Carter. (That HS also got a state title taken away as well, they taught their students well about ethics) ... Slocum and group had no idea that it was going on but the Aggies paid for it by not being able to attend a bowl for a year or two. ---The case of SMU (and some others) is completely different. The school personal knew exactly what was going and in some cases participated in payments to student/athletes. The NCAA did the absolute right thing there. The college itself was a "cheating snake". I would say the same about some of the things that has happened at Ohio State and Colorado where "supposedly tutors" just flat our did the students work for them. They too really deserve to get hit hard. OU reported it once than found out the situation and were not really responsible for the act of the idiot kid and overzealious supporter. ---One of fine OSU alums is in the news again.... Colorado still has its moments as well. Meanwhile Baylor got rid of their corrupt former SMU basketball coach and seems to cleaned up their act.
  5. ---That constant misuse (disrespect) of the UNT is exactly why UNT has such a dislike of SMU and not the same attitude about TCU and the others. SMU thinks is is a put down to us. It makes them look silly and makes them look like they have an inferiority complex and are worried that we will take over and make them insignificant., which they may be now. They have really gone south since the cheating scandel and the breakup of the SWC. Growing up I heard the place mentioned quite a bit, I rarely do anymore out here in West Texas. The crazy arrogant attitude is about all they excel at anymore.
  6. No self respecting program would touch him.... I don't even want to win that much.. he is no kid, he knows better, and thinks rules are made for other people just as that wonderful Ohio State (Maurice Clarette) did a few years ago. We see where that fine citizen is today....arrested again today... what a man!!!!
  7. --- Saw a North Texas back-pack in Chicago this summer. Too many people between me and them to talk to them, I was surprised how few college shirts, hats, etc. was being worn in Chicago area. People around here wear a lot more college items.
  8. --It can work but not if they do like TxTech did during the early 70's. One could throw well and one was almost another RB. The idiot TxTech coach of that time would send one of them in and the other team know exactly which type of play was coming. That will not work !!!!! ---Fry was using three QBs duirng the late 70's partially because of injuries and partially to confuse the opposition defence... Ray (from Midland) was the QB that defeated Tennessee. You can bet the Vols had not expected or prepared for him and UNT won. The best QB was injured somewhat (from Port Arthur) and there was another one who I considered on the level with Ray.. I think the injured QB actually played receiver or RB at times when Ray or the other one was at the QB position. Ray may have been the best passer of the three but was not very mobile but it worked.
  9. --Geeez, talk about Mack Brown and UT hatred.... What have they done to us other than beat the tar out of us (honestly). They aren't constantly trashing us in the media (ala SMU) and they even lobbyed for us to be a SWC member years ago. ---I really do think Texas has more talent than just Vince Young and that Mack's career is not TOTALLY attributed to that one person. I am also afraid that we will discover that UT is not exactly "fangless" without the "Invincable" Young. They also have 7 "Starters" back on offense and defense and a whole lot of other folks that played about 1/3 of the time. Seems like I remember some folks claiming Ohio State and OU would rip them apart last year... it did not exactly happen. --- As for Notre Dame, they don't exactly cheat but in an odd way they do. They appear on TV every week and have a contract with a major network but if you don't think good players that are Catholic don't get pressured to go there you are kidding yourself. That national TV deal provides exposure and provides lots of money to the ND program which they don't divide with anyone and it gives them a huge advantage in recruiting etc.. ---I am not a UT lover but be da**ed if I would support ND or that troubled OSU program that seems to always havae some scandel or an outlaw over any instate college (other than SMU). I am a through and through Texan.
  10. ---- My Opinion: Our only chance to do well against UT is to get to their inexperienced QB early and often and maybe get some fumbles or interceptions. Really needy to get him rattled and questioning himself early on. ---- SMU makes it too easy.... (to insult them). Their attitude, mouth, and history is one big target. I love to see the beat up old car in town that has an SMU sticker on it.... great advertising for them and what their degrees accomplish. ... LOL ---See you TI green.!! See you got my email as well about how great, tough, and competitive we West-Texans are in the Eric Winston article..
  11. --I disagree--- a lot of blame goes to the coaching staff. A team does not have to be a pass-happy team BUT they need to have the CAPABILITY to change and pass when necessary. I have seen a jillion Brownwood, Permian, and Midland Lee games (17 state championships combined) and the best of those teams looked very different at times. Some weeks they passed little and some times they passed a lot. Teams that are one dimensional rarely make it though the playoffs because there are teams that can stop one or the other but rarely both. A good team exploits what the other team is weak at or what what their defensive system isn't covering well. Southern Miss had the line stacked so the running game had little chance.. Screens are plays that won't work either unless there is a deep game to pull the defense away from the line of scrimmage. They are completed close to the line of scrimmage and then the yards are gained by running. Screens are about the same as a running game with a really short pass involved. When several WRs go somewhat deep the defense has to cover them or get burned which backs DB and LB off the line of scrimmage. You always rather see a 7-7 or 8-8 game near the line of scimmage when running than have 11-11 because more space exists. ---This is the thing I loved about Fry, the team looked different every week which drove the other team's defense crazy trying to prepare for them. I doubt he really knew exactly what plays he was going to run... just run the style the other team is not defending well. The key item is the line which must give the QB and RB some time to do something....that was not happening at UT a couple of years ago. They were being eaten alive before anything had a chance to succeed. .
  12. The League is full...14 members..... will re-post if someone decided to drop out.... which seems unlikely.
  13. bump... one space left for an active player... 13 members with 8 returnees from 2005.
  14. --Attendence numbers and dollar$. They mangage to regularly fill a stadium almost triple the size of ours... UT,OU, LSU etc, would not consider playing in a stadium under 50,000..... well maybe if it was against a top ten 10 team..
  15. Of course SMU is not listed as a college game,....Look at the pro schedule!!! ---If they are listed there it is because it is considered on the same level as wrestling and do not normally play legit games and would play against the spread.
  16. --and some "students" just don't the mental horsepower to stay in school anyway, at least at one that has decent academic standards..
  17. --To me that comment was very insulting. It implied that those in charge of SunBelt teams had no self-respect and that outlaw players would be welcome. The truth is that the Belt seems to be far "cleaner" than almost all other conferences in regard to outlaws and cheating. It was absolutely an insult in my opinion.
  18. One spot left for an active "Monday morning" quarterback. Yahoo (free) league number: 2739 password: green (no caps)
  19. I was a "charter resident" of College Inn in the fall of 1964 and the back portion was added in the fall of 1965. Considering how inexpensively it was to build I am surprised it is still around and the last time I walked throught it (on the surface) it looked pretty good considering it has housed 40 years of students. I loved the place with the outside doors which was quieter and air-conditioned (none of the others were in 1964 unless perhaps some girls one was. [no coed dorms them. The CI was all male then]. --It may be time for it to go but i have a lot of fond memories there and will hate to see it disappear. I really like that style of dorm without a loud central hall and a degree of privacy.
  20. Eleven members....three to go.
  21. Password is: green instead of Green ( no caps) my error.
  22. Yahoo League: 2739 Password: Green _________________________ ---The league will contain 14 members as was the case last year. This means everyone plays everyone once and one team the first and final regular season week. The settings are pretty much typical Yahoo with two noticeable differences... A WR/RB has been added and one stat has been added., return yards at the rate of 1 point for 20 yards. This was done to create more players that are worth drafting especially those who are borderline receivers such as Dante Hall. All returning player were very active last year and only 1 of the nonreturning teams wasnt active. ---I was unable to contact a few of last year's teams because no email address was posted on last year's league. Some of you may wish to rejoin now. There are only six positions open so if you are planning to join you need to do so soon. These spots will not last very long (or at least they did not last year) --Check out the Commish comment because last years results are posted on that site --This will be a live draft conducted on August 31 at 9:15 PM (Texas Time). Most people drafted live last year but if unable to appear live you will want to set up a predraft list that Yahoo will use to draft for you. You will likely draft better if you do it live. We will see which of Yawl Monday Morning quarterback can do well when given the chance. See Yawl on the fantasy grid-iron!!!!!
  23. 1. "Animal House" --graduated in 1966, I swear I knew most of these guys at UNT my senior year. 2. "Pink Panther movies" especially "The Return of the Pink Panther" 3. "No time for Sergeants" especially the bar scene, the latrine scene and the beginning part. 3b--hard to leave off ( the Vacation movies) especially the Christmas Vacation one all with Chevy Chase... Best line is in Vegas Vacation --Chevy comments that the kids are growing up go fast that he can barely recognize them (they use different people as kids in this one ______________ Honorable mention: "Captain Ron", ..Leonard Maldon thinks it is terrible, but I think it is so nutty it is great.
  24. ---Absolutely Denton should support UNT much better but a bigger disappointment is that the student support is not what most colleges have. If even 50% came we would have 16,000 people present plus the alums, locals, fan and others including visiting team fans if the opposition was within a few 100 miles. ---Considering the enrollment now, it seems the student support is worse now than it was during the 60's. --- I like his responses pretty well but I could never leave Ben Franklin off any guest list..politician, diplomat, scientist, publisher, mathematician, businessman, inventor, and super intelligent thinker (maybe the best and smartest person that America has ever produced). How could anyone ever leave a man off that able chase woman (sucessfully) at 80 years old??? LOL
  25. --Go Cobbs... and I am shocked that Taurean Henderson of Tech has been cut so soon (if at all) . Maybe he just doesn't the "brainpower" or work-habits to stick. Who cut him??? Maybe they have a big surplus of RBs.
