--Why didn't DD use Jamario early.... easy answer.... by passing some in the beginning, the defense backed off the line of scrimmage to cover receivers and we at least a had a chance to run (unlike the So. Miss Bowl game). I swear some folks know nothing about football.

Texas getting BCS notice via NT

---You sure did not see what I saw... and I do not trash people just because they win......We will play teams that do not have the talent of the Horns have and I expect us to do well. Our guys and coaches did the best they could against a superior team. Go luck to the Horns and all Texas teams (except SMU). -
Who will be the starting QB against SMU?
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
---Wilson longed pretty good once he got settled in. His mobility helped against the Horns....... against a lesser opponent Philips might do alright as well... Most of his passes were very good and obviously can throw long as well. No comment on Meager..... he had his chance last year and we won two. It is not all about ability but also about leadership and confidence by his teammates. -
Back from the game in Austin.......

---They (Texas) were that much better than we are and I had no complaints this time with the coaching or play calling. We passed some and got their defense off the line of scrimmage which has been my complaint in the past (especially in the So. Miss Bowl game). ---A lot of folks will lose to the Horns and will look about the same as we did while doing it, You (FFR) weren't listening to TV (obviously since you where there) but as they said: "Texas no longer recruits ----- they now select the players they want out of the state of Texas which has a large amount of talent ). In any state the university with the state name has a big advantage in recruiting and we have the most talently state of them all plus we have a large population. --- On TV it looked as if our players played their hearts out and they had good support from the coaching staff.... I am proud of them even though they lost...... For what it is worth I am from Midland/Odessa and grew up in Brownwood .... I am used to seeing winning teams..... just some times you are just outmatched and just can't win. --Keep your chins and we we get them this week!!!! -- SMU needs to lose. -
---This team was "all-world" when you compare it to the 65-0 game two years ago... We did have some bright spots today ... there were none in that one.

I have no problem with the fake punt or how Texas played.... The betting line was 41 and they were ahead by 42 when we "gave" them that last TD because of a fumble. It also their first game of the year with their most important game next week.. they needed to give their starting team experience. I am not near as down as I was two years ago when we looked awful... I saw a better game plan, a much better O-line and although the score was bad we had our moments and the time of poscession was rather even unbelievably. I think that from here on we will be very competive. This was a top-5 team that had 7 starters back on both sides of the ball and most of the new starters had lots of playing experience because of all the blowouts that they were in last year. A lot of teams may be defeated by them by similiar scores. I do oppose teams just running up the score just because they can but I really don't think that happened today....... They are very good plus I was not ashamed of how we played... we kept trying and retained pride in ourselves... they were just a whole lot better.... they may be #1 after next week. --Last comment...Wilson needs to be the QB based on today's game, but against an equal opponent that can't get to the QB it might be so much true. Anyone know who is the opening day opponent next year for us???

Texas getting BCS notice via NT
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
1. I really don't have a lot of problem with what on (by Texas)... it was the first game with a game against OSU #1 next week.... We were not that enept..(not like two years ago) Even the time of possession was fairly close surprisingly. 2. The gambling line was 41 and you can be the coaches knew that. They won by 49. If he did not cover the line the Horn-Nation would not be happy and not happy with him. Their last TD was the result of a fumble bu us and they were only one point over the "line" at that time. ---This one of those times that we need to do better if we don't like score. I am satisfied with the result .... I wasn't in 2004... that was awful. We will do ok once we play more reasonable opponents..... They were very good, we don't need to get our chins down.... Things will get better.. ________________________________ .......It was not pretty but we looked much better than two years ago when I was there in person.... Their D-line just ran through out O-line and no play had a chance during that game. I was also impressed that we passed some and made their defense back off. Our coaching staff did about as well as they could against a far superior team. They are the defending " National Champions" with 7 starters back from both offense and defense..... plus a lot of those new starters actually played a third of time last year because of all the blow-outs. It will be interesting to see what SMU does in Lubbock tonight.... -

--Don't know about the "buy" part but they have had a lot of NFL first round players lately including two Hesiman finalist--Cedric Benson and Vince Young, --plus Roy Williams, Huff, Cris Simms and several more first rounders. This will attract HS kids who think think they they are NFL material. That is were the playoff is plus lots of fame and glory which can last unto the future and create opportunities.. -
That is surprising.... I remember him and his nose tackle play. I remember him being one of the "name" players at that time.

Patrick Cobbs traded to the Steelers

---You may be right but I think the rookie salary is much higher now (about $400,000) . Maybe I am thinking of the NBA. --- I wonder how he was told.... it wonder if it was the typical "report to the office and bring your playbook" ...which usually means you have cut... but this time meant he had been traded.....Would be interesting to know.... -
Should Baylor Go Back To Green & Gold Unis'? ? ?
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
---Considering some rabid Baptist Deacons I have known (some were uncles) I am shocked that Baylor is playing on Sunday. They were always criticising others (including my family sometimes) for not "keeping the Sabbath Holy"(usually skipped Sunday night). Guess they will have to miss Sunday Evening Church services to watch Baylor start the season.... LOL....maybe they are hoping to beat the Hell out of those Texas Christians...... perhaps that will be considered a religious experience. ...LOL -

This is posted on Steeler Web site Steelers Trade for Running Back PITTSBURGH — The Steelers traded a conditional 2007 draft pick to the New England Patriots today for the rights to rookie free agent running back Patrick Cobbs. Cobbs (5-9, 210) joined the Patriots as an undrafted free agent from North Texas on May 15. He led the Patriots and ranked sixth in the NFL in the preseason with 188 yards rushing on 38 carries (4.9 avg.) and three touchdowns. He caught seven passes for 115 yards (16.4 avg.), including a 57-yard touchdown reception. Cobbs finished his college career as North Texas' all-time leading rusher with 4,050 yards. He holds the North Texas and Sun Belt Conference career records for rushing yards, rushing touchdowns (36), rushing attempts (818) and all-purpose yards (5,255). – 30 – http://news.steelers.com/article/68609/ I think the stats were prior to last night (after week 3)... He has four now if I remember correctly. -

Repeating what I have said before: ---The best thing that has ever happened to North Texas was the break-up of the SWC. Before then if a college wasn't in the SWC it rated right below dirt in Texas. Now there are several known schools not in the THE conference. Winning a lot of games, some Bowl trips, and taking out TxTech and Baylor helped as well. It got us some needed attention (especially from their followers) therefore more media time and space. People actually know where NT is nowdays unlike the old I-AA days that we were forced to endure when we were "nearly invisible" to most people.

Regarding the root beer poll and comment----- ______________________________ Here is a Baptist Joke: 1. Moslems do not recognize King David. 2. Jews do not recognize Jesus Christ. 3. Baptists do not recognize each other when they meet at a liquior store. ___________ Don't get upset---- I am a Bavarian Baptist......A Southern Baptist that likes beer with my with pizza..... LOL .......... (Bavaria is in Southern Germany) ________________ ---Personally I think Baylor is a "thief" to use Green and white like us.... and that goes for using our ""GREEN on Green Texas Flag" as well. Guess they are just envious of us. The movie Necessary Roughness with FFR "proves" we have had it a long time. They should do the Christian thing and not steal. . -
LOL..... this rodent is apparently going to live forever in one form or another,,, LOL

What year did NT almost beat UT?
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Got5onIt's topic in Mean Green Football
I would respond with: 1976 We lost 17-14. It was Darrell Royals's final year. Earl Campbell ( UT Heisman winner and NFL Hall of Famer ) saved the game for them near the end. It really cost them because he injured he leg in the processs and rarely played the rest of the year. The next year UT went 11-1 and Earl had his best college year. In 1988, we should have won but the refs made bad calls all night in UT's favor. They were GIVEN that win by 27-24. -
Again.... I think he makes the team...
