  1. ---CNN and ESPN have running a short bit on the fight.. Both of very critical of the annoucer and some on ESPN would like to see Miami given the death penalty it seems. They have have had several fighting incidents in the past two years. The FIU guys may have been wrong but Miami has a terrible history of misconduct.
  2. ---Makes sense.... Calf has fewer I-A colleges than Texas (four in Pac-10 and two in WAC) and a larger population, plus USC recruits nationally which leaves fewer spots for the locals. Calf. HS athletes will go somewhere so I suppose Boise is one of the places. --Florida once had only three name colleges and now there are a lot of I-A ones which delutes their talent a bit also plus Spurrier raids Fla. also..
  3. --A one game suspension???? for that??? surely both schools will do more than that... Some those actions looked criminal.... Some were doing things that made the Tenn. Titan incident look rather mild. They should fire that one announcer..... immediately...
  4. ---Meager...absolutely........but if the the O-line can't keep the defense away from him then consider using Wilson who is likely better running for his life than Meager is.
  5. ---Florida Int. now trail Unv of Miami by only 7-0 at halftime and the yards and first downs are close... Go Panthers..... That would be the win of year coming from a team that has not won. ( 5 losses by a total of 14 points plus a stomping by Arkey State, a Belt team)
  6. ---I absolutely disagree--- Memphis has only one win which was Chatanooga, a I-AA team. We defeated SMU who is now 4-2 and even has a 55-9 victory over Arkansas State. LaLa has defeated Houston which is 4-2 and has defeated Oklahoma State. ---It seems some here just want to minimize what we do accomplish... we may not be very good but the gutter comment is bit extreme. ---It seems that CUSA, except Tulsa and maybe Houston (which LaLa defeated) is very little better than the Sunbelt teams.....
  7. ---I doubt that LaTech is any better known that we are..... ( too many here underestimate how well we are known nationally ).... I think it might do it get the attention of those teams in CUSA some which could be helpful in the long-run. Defeating any non-BCS team isn't going to help us much otherwise as for as getting national attention. Personally I don't think the present WAC nationally is considered a lot better than the Sunbelt. Other than some PAC-10 teams they play few BCIS teams, we may play more than they do and except for the remotely located Boise State probably do as well. ---The Akron loss is beginning to look bad, That demonstrates what can happen when we getting behind very quickly and then get down on yourselves. We didn't have a good history of coming from behind. Perhaps the FIU game will help that "mindset" some because came from bsehind and hung in there in OT. We probably should have won the Akron one.
  8. ---I am guessing the whole truth has not been exactly told here.... The woman seems to be an idiot if she was yelling when a player was down on the field. It was probably actions such as that that got Tennessee upset with her, not just cheering. Personally I remember a mother of a QB here in town that was almost as much fun to watch as the game because of her antics but none were disgraceful or embarassing. Her son later was the QB at NT that defeated Tennessee during the 70's.. ---I am with Rick, the lady yelling at him should just be quiet or move (there were plenty of other seats available).. The overtime may have not been the best played football but it was exciting and standing up was perfectly normal.... sitting wasn't. No one was sitting very long where I was located...... definitely not me... --I need to go more often... I have seen two games this year... and we won both.... I live 350 miles from Denton.
  9. ---The BSC Championship game will be played there this year as will the Super Bowl in 2008. ---We have a football team and a very old stadium (which is never full). ---The catch is that they have bought naming rights to the stadium that the Arizona Cardinals now use. The article states that Univ. of Phoenix has 323,000 students, 39 campuses and a lot of students online.
  10. ---That wide receiver screen was awful.... I can't remember it ever working and even they even tried again after Quinn was half-killed on one attempt. It displayed a total lack of imagination and non-thinking.
  11. --It was extremely unprofessional..... no boss should PUBLICLY chew out his employees, football, or anywhere. Spurier should have been chewed out publicly himself by the AD or school President for his actions if he thinks that is that is the way to go. ---Guess Snyder should have done that to him in Washington in front of the fans because he really stunk up the Redskins. ---Yep-- if the call upstairs doesn't make sense then the Head coach should make the call on the sidelines..... many do at times.
  12. ---Sports are supposed to be fun..... Seven OTs were fun and very unusual. What is there to be embarassed about..... We won and the players were obviously excited and relieved. Going onto the field at most colleges is not even allowed. North Texas is rather unique by allowing it.
  13. But who??---- The NCAA investigators????
  14. ---The comparison was meant to indicate that some people think great games are high scoring ones, not ones in which defense dominates. The defense dominated the OTs. It was not meant to mean it was a perfect game.... It was not periods of mess-ups but mostly of good defense. Did not think I needed to explain so mush.
  15. They have really been unlucky... five of their losses havae been by 14 points ...TOTAL...
  16. --- I suppose some people aren't impressed with no-hitters either.... after all there were no homeruns hit. The third period was awful but from then on it was very entertaining and the defenses would not allow the other team to get near the goal very often which explains the long field goals and the number of misses. UNT made several desparate first downs in the OT period. They did not give up and even scored the go ahead TD and 2 point conversion with less than a min to go. Unfortunately FIU kicked a field goal later to tie it and start the 7 OT madness. ---I would not call it a great game (over-all) but it was no joke either nor is FIU. They have lost 5 games by a total of 14 points, including the one that we defeated them by 3. they lost to MTSU by 1 and So. Florida by 1 and Maryland by 4 and Bowling Green by 5. Unfortunately they get Miami (Florida) and Alabama next. The joke was our loss to MTSU by 35 when we could even not cross the mid-stripe.
  17. ---There were a lot of missed field-goals... including one that hit the up-right. However if you look at them they were not chip shots and most were 30, 35, 40 yards away. These are not automatic for most college kickers. One that was made was made by us after a fumbled snap and from 39 yards.... It was rather amazing that it succeeded. We made the following FGs --- 29, 34 and 39 yards in OT and 35 and 23 in regular time. A lot of the missed ones were very long. Some folks need to be less critical of those kicks. I wonder if the defenses had failed and a TD had been scored in every OT attempt if they would claim that was a great game because of the extreme scoring??? There was some very good Defense in the OT periods.
  18. ___________________________ I looked on yahoo... yards, however carries not available. Stats are avg per game. year -- run -- pass -- points 2003 -- 182 -- 150 -- 28.4 2004 -- 196 -- 143 -- 27.2 2005 -- 143 -- 129 -- 14.3 2006 -- 129 -- 088 -- 12.0 (six games) ________________ If we threw 80% of the time then they made a lot of yards on them. However points have really declined, and wins as well. I will admit that we should have thrown more in some games ( So. Miss) to back the defence off plus all those sideways passes last week were usually covered and seemed pointless. We did better after we stopped doing those. Sourse: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/stats/byteam...A_all&year=2006 ---Few points does not necessarily mean bad team (as last week in all the overtimes) I did not notice Super Bowl winner Ravens scoring a lot meanwhile Indy does ring them up but has never made it to Super Bowl. Tonights NFL game had a 6-1 combined record prior to game and together they scored 16 points (Broncos/Ravens)
  19. ---I was there... It was not a great game from how well it was played.... but... it was very memorable and one that we will never forget...The comment about the missed FGs really is a cheap shot. Almost all of them were 30+yards. We are spoiled by seeing NFL guys making these all time, college kids don't. One that kept us playing was an absolute miracle, the holder did not have a good hold and somehow this low line drive went over. I was really impressed with this one. One hit the left upright very high up, that happens and is not a big negative. --- UNT played very well after changing QBs near the beginning of the 4th quarter. Meager really changed the looks of things and someone stopped calling those ineffective sideways tosses to Quinn that about got him killed once. The impressive thing to me was that the UNT players did not quit and "got with the program" during the final quarter and into overtime. There were a lot of great defensive plays in the portion and a few desparate offensive plays when they were absolutely needed. Wilson earlier, had been too impatient and sometimes ran when it was way too far away to make the yards. ---Yes Florida Int. has a poor record but 10 years from now no one will remember that part and the list of wins just shows a win for us. Those of us who were there will remember this one forever .... it was not just another game....I hated quarter three (we were awful) but the guys got it turned around and gave us a great memory....... 7 overtimes...and a win. ...A great mental picture I have of the game is Joel N. skipping around in joy after the game...... funny. He was enjoying the win, as should we. Florida Int. are not as bad as they are unlucky. Theya have lost 5 games by a total of 14 points. Date Opponent ----------Florida Int. Thu, Aug 31 at Middle Tennessee L 6-7 -- Sat, Sep 9 at South Florida L 20-21 -- Sat, Sep 16 Bowling Green L 28-33 -- Sat, Sep 23 at Maryland L 10-14 -- Sat, Sep 30 Arkansas State L 6-31 -- Sat, Oct 7 at North Texas L 22-25 And they have to play Miami (Fla) and Alabama next.... poor guys... The don't deserve this...

  21. --- Sometime the truth is painful.... but it is still the truth. If we don't like what is said then we need to change what the truth is...... not just what we say. ---At least he picked us to win... I am surprised he did not forecast 4-2 which would have been the worse insult of all.... even worse than 0-0....
  22. What are we predicting on???? Attendence??? Score?? or---At what time in the game will half of those in attendence have walked out??? ---I really don't understand students who never go to games.. Most have absolutely nothing else worthwhile to do. Those who think sports are not important are completely wrong. The best known schools in America (outside the Ivy League perhaps) are those with successful athletic programs. If you doubt this then notice what happened to UT-Arlington, Lamar, and even West Texas after they dropped football or down-sized it. None of them are as well known as they once were. UTA was once the same size as were (in 1966 we both had about 13,000) and maybe about as well known state-wide... They aren't anymore...... and sport teams are the big difference. We are even more widely known now than we were 10 years ago when the SWC dominated Texas athletics. Sports teams are important to a university, don't think they aren't. They are idiots if they don't somewhat support the athletics of the university that is educating them. It does help in degree recognition later.
  23. ---Not about coaching but about some posts about the 60's.... The 60's aren't what a lot of people think.... after 1966 was a great diffferent that before then The first part was more of a "Beach Boy " attitude not the druggie 60's. I graduated from UNT in 1966 and had never once saw a marijuana cigarette or knew of anyone using drugs although we wondered about some of those music guys. I lived at College Inn so I was not so innocent and sheltered from what was going on. I first heard of acid that spring but in California, but not Texas.... When I returned in 1971 it was a completely different world at UNT. Those five years had really changed UNT and society in general .... The War protests, hippies, and worst racial trouble happened in that time plus women rights had really kicked in.... gasp!!.. now women now even wore pants to class unlike in 1966. The single gender dorms did not exist much with all the regulations for women that had existed easlier. It was odd time to be alive and it often left you wondering what would happen to us next. ---In that 5 years society changed more than any other 5 years I have been alive. Totally different but also meanfull would be the time from 1995 to 2000 when personal computers and the internet became common-place. many other things in society have changed because of that including the ease to find information and communicate across country. Posting here was not even possible 12 years ago.... and cell (mobile) phones were almost unknown.
  24. removed-- it double posted..
  25. ---I would think our best shot (if UNT makes a change) would be Dodge, Dykes, or someone similiar. Applewhite might be an interesting choice but is extremely young and inexperienced at this point. . They are fairly new, (no college head-coach experienced) both Texans with Texas connections and likely affordable. Ambitious people often will take a lesser salary if it provides them an opportunity to go to bigger things. If they succeed, I would would think their tenure in Denton would be 4-5 years at most. ---This may all be premature if DD succeeds the rest of the way. I think he is a good man and person but two years of little success usually does a coach in, one bad year is usually not a big problem after he has been there a while, especially if there are some reasons to explain the situation. Two consecutive one is a different matter. --- I love Fry, but you have to be kidding... He is unlikely to want to coach and his age is a big factor now. ---"If a change occurs," we need someone who can recruit, can motivate, can teach, can have good game plans but change as necessary, and it would not hurt any to have one who has an outgoing personally as did Fry and Spike Dykes to get public attention. A college coach is very different that HS and pro ones who don't recruit and don't have to have the personality to satisfy alums and supporters. It is also important that the head hires good assistants and not just inempt buddies... that would do them in. A head coach needs good leadership skills and good assistants as much as anything.
