  1. ---They have produced some very good basketball teams and have been Belt members longer than we have.... just not in Football.... Glad to see them be a "full" member now.
  2. ---Where are all those people who said they would be happy with a 1-10 season as long as that one win was SMU...... Apparently they did not really mean what they said....
  3. ---Early morning.. local news and talk radio .. at noon ESPN radio with Dan Patrick (best sports person on radio in my opinion, [can be serious and funny ] and the rest of the time a variety of things including ESPN radio.... and usually while traveling various Sirius channels depending on my mood. Need that in West Texas since we usually "lose" a lot of stations while traveling. [ miles and miles of rabbits and ground squirrels ]
  4. --Everything is relative ...... relative to Lubbock in Jan, Feb, March, or UTEP anytime ----North Texas looks like paradise.
  5. True..... if you talk about us only ..... but is a disavantage when competing against other Big-12 teams and some others.
  6. ---I am more concerned about universities that never seem to have any academic problems... those probably just pass people just because they are an athlete. I think we (NT) lost a QB lately (plus other players) and when I was a student at NT we had an outstanding MVC basketball player that seemed to elgible every other semester. I don't think a few students being declared inelgible is an insult at all.... it indicates grades are earned and not given. ---This latest situation about the Tech outlaw action I had not heard but I live 120 miles away and hear very little bad about athletic students there. Many of them come come this area and don't seem to be problem people. --Tech also has the additional problem in recruiting that NT and others don't have... the location is very unattractive to many potential students or athletes. (no beach, no lakes, no mountains, no big city or big city night life nearby, and the surrounding area looks pretty bleak most of the school year). That is one reason the enrollment of NT has passed Tech and soon Texas State will also. My kids toke one look at Tech and stated they were going elsewhere (North Texas and TAMU).... That area makes Midland look like paradise especially on windy days. As one of them said "Lubbock is a dirty Midland", and went to North Texas and now lives in Richardson. The terrain out here is one reason that the locals are so loyal and in involved in sports and tend to be good at most of them .....not a lot of else to do ... no "big league" pro sports or many college teams to support in competiton to high schools or other outdoor activites such as fishing, hunting, or just wondering around in the sticks. We make our own fun and usually are rather friendly...
  7. ---I am a North Texas Grad (twice)... but I spent one year at Tech as a grad student. (my wife is Tech grad) I like North Texas much better and thought the profs at North Texas were better at least in my department........but there are things about Tech that I do like. There is much more fan support there than at North Texas. Alums there don't thrash or blow off their school (we have several) even on this board. Our alums (mostly) show a lot of apathy toward their univerisity. A lot just complain. Academicly we are ever bit as good or better ones with great athletic programs. ---I don't see how it does us any good to bad mouth others that have done little to harm us... unlike SMU that has. . ---I am also a long-time West Texan... Leach really isn't but coaches at a West Texas university. Whether you like him at not, he is a very smart person (Pepperdine law degree, interesting offense) with a lousy personality. He is not typical of a lot of coaches who are dumber than goats and even sound that way. Neither is Mack Brown and both rarely say much bad about their opponents. If you don't like the fact that they win..... they defeat them and often. Both of them seem to try to run clean programs unlike SMU and as some others have done. It seems Colorado, Ohio State, Miami, and some others have some type of problems with tutors, coaches, or outlaw players regularly. .
  8. ---A person always shows loyality to to his family, friends, country and to his school even if he doesn't always agree with the things as they are. He tries to change what he can and accept what he can't. --- Friends, family, country and his past history including his school is not a business situation. ---There is a huge difference.... Now for the political remark... ______________________ ---Texas and education in Texas needs a different Governor, ones that care about schools, colleges, parks, and state services instead of helping his personal friends and contrbutors.... . Vote next week and you can be justified in complaining... Don't and you just need to shut up.. you got what you deserved. (my opinion and many others in education or working for the state)
  9. -- Well said TI-001. You are developing a "West-Texas attitude---"Never Give up".. . That is what you get when you hang around those West Texas "kids". Tech lost to UT this week but it sure wasn't because they just game up...... they were out played and even the UT QB is a West Texas kid that came from 21 down. ..... I have noticed that TTU has been giving UT fits the past few years
  10. website: http://www.athlonsports.com/college-footba...&participant=39 She is leading... West Texas girl...
  11. --The more supporters you have the more likely you are to go "ka-ching". We need better alumni support... you never know which one might be some of ones to contribute. just because they don't have a lot of extra cash today doesn't mean they won't in the future.
  12. ---Maybe not , perhaps there will be some medical breakthroughs.
  13. ---Hey yawl, I am West Texan and proud of it. Concerning SMU: 1. it is much more expensive, 2. most lawyers that I have talked to out here don't even know any SMU grads out here... their comments are that a SMU degree may be great in Dallas but out out here most people here really don't really want them. Considering the second reason, it really isn't worth the extra money and out of the Dallas area it seems tougher to get hired if they don't go into private practice. I have heard several different reasons. Usually Baylor, Texas, and Tech does better on the bar exam passing rate than SMU but last time both SMU and Wesleyan moved up a lot, SMU 2? , and Wesleyan 4.
  14. MBA---- That would be the biggest mistake in the world.... We will have a building with a history that will attract attention to us plus it will not make us look like a new struggling start-up law-school. Obviously you have NOT been to Europe where where well- constructed buildings are remodeled and used for centuries...The train station in Paris is now one of the great Art museums of the world, the D'Orsey. It even looks similiar to this one. ---It will be extremely functional once the remodeling has been completed. That open green area (future Park) will even highlight the new Building for all to see. We likely will open part of the lower area of the Building for tourism. I don't know much about being a MBA or advertising but that built in publicity looks great to me, and should help the school in the beginning.. people from everywhere that come to Dallas will look at it because of its history.....
  15. ---At one time the downtown of Fort Worth was really bad where the WaterGardens, Ft. Worth Colesium, and Texas Wesleyan Law School now stands. It has been redone and their downtown far surpasses Dallas now for nighttime activity and a good place to visit. I have been to a lot of cities in the USA and even worldwide and I have to say that downtown Dallas has got to be the worst I have been in at the moment. This would be an impressive loking law school building and might help revitalize the area. It will eventualy happen. Except for West End, (a good start) downtown Dallas seems pretty dead. Increased mass transit into the area has helped and could help more. --- Lets us hope the next legislature (and Gov.) is more helpful than the current group is to education and North Texas. ---Not that this is important to yawl but one of my sons now lives in Richardson and drive to Ft Worth several evenings a week to go to Law School. I don't think he was all that thrilled with SMU ( or the cost) who did accept him after he had began the registration process at Wesleyan. A lot of the evening students there commute from Dallas County now. He likely would have been a UNT 2ed year law-student had it been open. --Yawl may disagree, but I think this will help connect the City of Dallas with UNT more than it is now..... I also like the fact that this old building looks interesting and will not look like some "start-up school" and this building has a lot of history so it will attract attention. In much older cities, especially European ones , good buildings are constantly being remodeled and last for centuries. ......Move over SMU, you will have more company in big D. ..... LOL
  16. I don't disagree with your statement... just the ones that think that low-scoring games automaticly means inept teams..... and some folks here think that...
  17. ----We win.... and don't care if it is ugly.... a win is a win and 10-20 years from no-one will know how pretty or ugly it was when looking at the final results. ----Even if you consider the FIU game ugly, you will remember that game forever... and what happened to them the following week at Miami.
  18. Don't need MANY, just a couple of good friends who want to escape town for a few hours (or couple of days).... I am 350 miles away (from Denton) as well.... I have seen both victories... enjoyed both of them--- SMU --yeaah, and FIU [the longest Game ] , which is now a lot better known than a couple of weeks ago......LOL ---The FIU mess was bad but they tried to do the right thing.... Miami is now looking pretty bad out of the deal... [ from everything I am reading and hearing ]
  19. ----I don't think is was matter of time at all. There was a Texas State Budget passed in 2005 but the law school had not been funded and neither was the UTEP pharmacy school which is completed but unstaffed. Our wonderful Governor then vetoed that budget and refused to call a special session until about a year later. All of education (universities and public schools) suffered and even after special sessions were called nothing was done for education --upper level or public schools. --- If you want things to change then vote for anyone but the guy there now. The state parks are falling apart, he wants toll roads, does nothing for education (caused college tuition to incease rapidly and local property taxes) at any level and is a DeLay buddy. Because of him and a couple more folks, Strayhorn left the party and ran against him...... and no I am not a Strayhorn supporter but she would be a lot better than him for education and the State of Texas.
  20. ---That was a point I made earlier and got pummeled by some who really don't understand football...... low scoring games don't absolutely mean inept teams..... just that the defensive teams are better the offensely parts. As I stated Indy has a extremely powerful offense and never makes the Super Bowl.... Usually the Super Bowls teams are teams with good defenses... (The Rams were about the only exception that I can remember that had a rather poor defense) When the Ravens made the Super Bowl they never scored a TD in October that year but only lost one game and won three. Chicago never scored an offensive TD last week... and won. Lots of people think good teams have to score lots of points ... a lot don't. --I did not watch this one (in class) so I really don't know about this game. It may have the result of bad judgement, maybe not. Considering how many points Fla. Atlantic has been giving up, that doesn't seem to say much for the LaLa offense.
  21. --- Let the score decide.... Arkansas State may be our opponent but they have never done anything bad to to us (unlike SMU) . They are our conference member and I support them every week except the week they play us. ---FIU may have had a bad week, but they at least they showed some class afterward and attempted to do the right thing, unlike the other school.... That I can support also....
  22. --As I posted on another thread.... FIU and Strock has tried to do the right thing.... Miami hasn't. perhaps all-conference opponents (including us) should cancel their games with Miami... especially games at Miami. ---From what I read about the ACC, their fans actions at basketball games are unbelievable. That whole conference seems to have real problems .. They need to back off at take a look at what is going on.
  23. ---Considering what Miami has done (about nothing really) it might be best that all non-conference opponents (including us) just cancel their games with Miami... It would sent a message of disapproval. ---Strock at FUI has tried to do the right thing and have correct penalities and removal from the FIU team... Miami has just blown it off..... listen to the Miami President's comments.
  24. Predicting and expectations is very uncertain........ ask Texas Tech and Missouri from last week..... both lost....... Missouri was undefeated and TT was playing a team that had never won and had looked bad. Seems like Detroit, Tampa, and Tennesee, won in the NFL last week and had never won before... all were expected to lose. Play the game and we will then know....!! Anyone who can predict these games 70% correct is very good. ....and remember a two year old should get 50% even if he knows nothing about football. Therefore the difference in ignorance and great is a mere 20%...... This is what makes sports interesting... the uncertainty.....
  25. We were in a conference with Louisville, Memphis, Tulsa, and Cincinnatti 30-40 years ago**...... plus Florida State was not considered all that great then and we played them rather often and in Denton. **This MVC was also considered the best Basketball conference in America but UCLA was considered the best team under Wooten. The ACC, SEC, SWC, etc was still segregated most of that time and not really all that good either although they would like to think so. (Kentucky was an exception, but refused to schedule Louisville) There was a time during my senior year that 5 of the top-10 were MVC members, we weren't but that was our conference.. Wooten was good but he was in a situation that will never occur again.... he recruited the South and some other places for the best players because the locals would not sign them. Tulsa lost to BYU..... the same team that stopped TCU's win streak.
